The cup that was sent flying right past her face and splattered the hot coffe everywhere surely enough catches her off guard, mostly because the Captain rarely loses control, even in front of her.

Deft fingers brush down the stray droplets off her leather pants, newly crafted by the most renowned of Asgardian tailors, taking in Carol's retreating form. Sympathy is etched all over King's own face, mixed with the fondness towards the blonde that has grown exponentially with their every meeting.

"You owe me no apologies, Captain. I've been known to throw a bottle or two in my lifetime."

Anger has always been a useful emotion behind which grief dwelt. Being the last of her own sisters, and having lost Jane to Valhalla, Valkyrie knows it well-- and she knows just how much Carol has lost, too.

She is worried about her, in fact, and it has perhaps been apparent in her frequent visits of late, but Valkyrie does not mind it at all. Had she not, after all, promised Carol that she would never let her be alone?

"Still no leads?" She asks, stepping closer to the coffee maker and pouring two cups anew. "Can I help in any way?"

Who would’ve thought that Ryden would ever look forward to shopping for shoes so much. Anything he did with his bae, anything at all was pretty much a party, worthy of looking forward to. Having finished something up real quick at the car shop, Ryden made his way towards Mars’ apartment, slipping inside and being greeted with a quiet place for a change. Asher had probably taken the little girl for her daily stroll and that usually meant that Marsden was catching up on some much needed sleep. And sure enough, there he was, resting on the couch in the living room with a plush toy clutched to his chest, probably laying down in the middle of picking toys up after Maria Elena, just to rest his eyes but ended up dozing off, still holding the item he was supposed to put away.

It filled Ryden up with the sad sort of softness because he knew just how easily the siren got tired lately and though there were some good and some bad days, the bad days when he felt exhausted, sick and dehydrated happened much more often and it tore Ryden apart to see his favorite person struggling. Uncaring and untouchable as he appeared, when Ryden cared deeply for someone, he felt them within his very core and every trouble they had, every hurt they experienced, Ryden would feel it as his own ache and pain, like he couldn’t help sharing their troubles, taking some of it upon himself so they weren’t suffering alone.

Approaching silently, still pretty good at sneaking up even though he’d lost his supernatural dexterity and nimbleness, he pried the plush toy out of Mars’ clutching fingers as carefully as he could, letting it drop to the floor to rejoin all others still littering the place. Lowering himself down onto the edge of the couch, he leaned over the siren’s sleeping form, planting a gentle kiss on his sleeping beauty’s forehead. Out of the neckline of Ryden’s shirt, a darkened silvery chain slipped out, a new one with a chain lock engraved with a cursive letter M to match the one with the letter R Marsden now always wore.

It had been weeks since that night. A night where everything had changed even though they acted as though it hadn't. But it was never discussed. Not even the following morning when they woke up all wrapped up in each other - legs tangled, Izzy's arms around his Captain, bodies still naked and warm. No words about what they did were uttered and though Izzy wanted to discuss it, he knew better than to do so. After all, they broke an important rule they made with each other years ago and though there were times they had come close to breaking it before, they always managed to resist. Until last night.

And despite the heavy liquor consumption, Israel remembered every moment of it. He remembered how incredible it felt having Edward wrapped around him in ways he hadn't ever been before. He remembered the moans of pleasure, swallowed down by Izzy as they shared passionate kisses while connected in the most intimate of ways. He remembered the way Edward clung to him while they came undone together, each other's names falling from kiss swollen lips as Israel gave him everything. More than he's ever been allowed to give. And he remembers falling asleep after they came down from their blissful high... then waking up the following morning and eventually going about their day like it didn't happen.

Then the next day, then the next week... and the week after... and the week after...

This week had been the hardest thus far only because Edward had fallen ill. All week he'd been experiencing episodes of nausea, vomiting and inappetence. Barely even able to stomach anything and sometimes the mere sight or smell of food made him sick. His sickness happened more so in the mornings, but there were times throughout the day where it would strike, too. The medicine they had on board helped him only a little and since it wasn't going away, Izzy suggested they make port and seek out a doctor, at least for better medicine. Of course, Edward would insist he was fine, much to Izzy's dismay and disbelief, but he took care of his Captain in whatever way possible. Brought him soup, water and medicine, held him while he slept, washed him - fuck, he hated seeing him so sick. And his worry was only growing each day.

So when Ed hadn't joined them on deck, he made his way to his Captain's quarters and knocked only once before he walked on in. And there he was, leaned over a bucket, hair fallen on both sides as he empties his stomach and Izzy wasted no time in rushing over. Gently, he gathers Edward's hair in his hands, pulling and holding it back. Sighing, Izzy removes one of his black leather gloves and presses it to the side of Ed's face, feeling for a fever. "Edward, you're not getting any better. I really think we need to find a doctor the next time we make port." Which should be soon. He expects Ed to argue with him, but Izzy is prepared to stand firm on this. He refuses fucking lose him.
