Okay so here's the skinny

Bill Needle and Gerry Todd are my favourite SCTV characters, and it's not close. I originally thought Todd would be my absolute favourite when I started watching (I began with Series 4) until I hit 4/1-8 and Needle came along and snapped my brain like a twig.

Anyway. Now they're tied.

Being a self-professed Dick Rave enthusiast (that is, Rick and Dave; Moranis and Thomas; those fellas what play Bob and Doug), this should come as no surprise. Besides the McKenzie brothers, Todd and Needle are the duo's default station characters. Pals with Caballero, Prickley, LaRue, Heatherton, Bittman, ya know. This is established both by their sheer screentime and by their contributions to various wraparound segments.

Which makes it all the more unfortunate that they only have one interaction - during the Staff Christmas Party. To be fair though, it's a delightful thing. Needle says "video" funny, Todd says "Needlebaum", they both cackle heartily, and the door is left open for them to collaborate on any number of schemes in the future.

They don't, of course, but why let that stop us? I think the appeal of their potential dynamic is pretty clear on the surface, but to expound on it a bit: Needle is flummoxed and lightly exasperated by Todd, while Todd is amused by how Needle is tying himself in knots. Neither of them can quite figure the other one out, though for very different reasons. And yet, they somehow feel compelled to keep spending time together. Gradually, these two loners realize they might've found an actual, honest-to-goodness friend.

In the early days of my newfound NeedleTodd devotion, I wrote almost 2500 words of dialogue between the two, most of it in one sitting. I think that's what it comes down to; they're a lot of fun to bounce off each other! Filling in the considerable blanks between these two funny guys is a thoroughly pleasurable experience.

"REALISTIC" AU

that name doesn't really feel accurate i just literally don't know what else to call it but its my AU where MC is from miami (aka self-insert au ig?? even tho its supposed to be a self-insert anyway?? idk idk) and i just kinda wanted to explore the ramifications of an MC that knows a Miami that's very different from the one that miguel is in, not only bc its the 80s but also the criminal element and also the general areas of miami that i grew up in are very different from where miguel grew up... i also wanted to do HEAVY research about miami in the 80s (maybe i can show off my reading list lol) to get a more "authentic" portrait of the city ??? SO LIKE all that mixed together would kinda end up changing the plot up bc like ofc it'll still be romantic bc im a simp BUT bc im writing like a narrative with other themes and an "OC" and not a romantic visual novel, the elements i'll steal from CMIM are more like the skeleton of the plot and not a scene-for-scene remake, ykwim? so bc of that, i also imagined it shorter and also like a movie script - three-act structure and all that jazz SO!! its an action/adventure/crime/romantic/comedy taking place in 1980s miami!! ALSO U WENT TO SEE A MOVIE AND GOT SUCKED IN SO LIKE i wanted to explore that and the "man out of time" angle that the visnov can't rlly get into bc it can't assume anything about what time period ur from without breaking the self-insert illusion AND ALSO i rlly wanted some ängst re: if this is all real or if everything is gonna end once the "movie's over" ya kno i just love that drama spice of "do u love me bc ur supposed to love me, is any of this ur choice, what will happen when i wake up" and all that jazz 🤭 heehee hoohoo

what can I say honestly. Ford's still really funny. He's sad. He did a terrible thing and I get it and his entire deal is just very fascinating. I've said it before and I'll say it again the gap in time between the two main games really helped from an outside sense to mythologize Ford so we saw him in the same light Raz did, and subseqeuntly got our shit rocked in the same way. I love it so much.

Favorite moment:

I have lots of thoughts on Ivan tbh, although they're complicated.

I know Asagiri never meant for him to be an important character or to ever really expand upon him but i am never going to get over the fact that Asagiri really just went "oh yeah by the way guys here's this absolutely nutzo crazy dude claiming that Fyodor fucking lobotomized him. He gets defeated really easily though so no worries."

Most people just take that at face value and go "oh yeah whatever, it's a villain minion, all villains have minions, he's weird and evil and pathetic ok moving on" but like. Can we hold on a minute????

If I remember correctly, Ivan said that Fyodor took out the part of his brain that feels sadness and pain, which from my very limited knowledge of the brain is just objectively not a thing that works. That's just not. A thing you can do. Cause yeah you could stop the part that recognizes pain signals, but that doesn't make anyone any less sad, it just makes them not feel physical pain.

And he wasn't like, literally lobotomized, because if that were so he would not be. Yaknow. Dancing around as he is. And he has bandages around his entire head, which would not be the case since lobotomies don't require you to cut open ur damn skull.

Well you know, it pretty much follows that whatever he's claiming Fyodor did to him is. Objectively not the case, because it's nonsensical, and Literally Why would Fyodor fucking lobotomize a guy that's so. What. What is the point of that

So I mean, I have two theories, one of them funny and one of them not

Either Ivan is just high as fuck all the time and thinks it would be funny to wrap bandages around his head and larp as a lobotomy victim and then Fyodor comes back like "Kolya came crying to me saying I lobotomized you what lies are you putting in his head" and Ivan being like heehee haha hoohoo

OR that Fyodor is definitely messing with his head, but in a normal manipulatory and ability-assisted way not a literal i am squishing your grey matter way. They definitely have a fucked up awful relationship, and I think I consider Ivan to be the narrative opposite of Nikolai, though they are genuinely similar.

So in that case Ivan would also still be on so many drugs all the time because look me in the eye and tell me that man isn't zooted out of his fucking mind

But in my opinion, the case of how something like this came to be with Fyodor was a situation similar to Shibusawa. Fyodor is someone who provides the worst sort of comfort to people.

Shibusawa liked Fyodor because Fyodor offered him concrete answers to the useless mess of confusion his life was, he provided easy comfort and a way to exist that satisfied the Hole in his Heart TM.

And I think Ivan probably had the same kind of problem- he was utterly lost in the world with no clue how to function probably scared of anything and everything and with no one to rely on and a terrible opinion of himself. The second he met Fyodor he was probably overjoyed even knowing Fyodor was this actual criminal mastermind who would probably manipulate and control him, use him and throw him away because it made him feel needed. He was seeking an escape from sanity to throw himself into something awful on purpose, and that seems to be Fyodor's specialty.

So Ivan probably jumped at the chance to get in on it, because Fyodor sympathized with his suffering and was the only one to give him a genuine solution. "Oh, so you need direction and relief? You need to be of use to people? If you truly see no use in your sanity, I could take it off your hands. You could join my terrorist organization and I'll lobotomize you! You can give up your free will altogether, because these things hurt for you to wield, and I'll take care of you, you'll be very helpful to me, god in the real, and I thank you very much" And Ivan cries tears of joy

Of course, Fyodor doesn't literally lobotomize him, but Ivan doesn't have to know that! I feel there must have genuinely been some ability intervention that did fuck him up farther than just being high though, Fyodor wants to make sure Ivan wouldn't ever betray them (or anyone else, that's yknow, why it's so easy for him to snatch up mentally ill people from the streets and make them worship him)

The case is Fyodor does genuinely care about Nikolai and Ivan very much so he does but his "caring" is I Am Going To Control You Completely And Play God Because I Don't Know How Else To Help

So no, I don't think his brain was genuinely messed with because that just doesn't seem like a Fyodor thing further than in a metaphorical sense. But Ivan is for all intents and purposes utterly under the control of Fyodor and also totally fine with that. As in it's a combination of he wants it bc he's very mentally ill and also it's a bdsm thing hiehrjgidfkslfljgujk

I have a fic about him trying to explain this whole Situation that I've been planning to write Forever because I really do care for Ivan a lot and I think there's a lot I could write with him that would explore not only him but Fyodor and Nikolai and their view of the world but I keep getting sidetracked

Oh my god dude ok ok so I’m ok uh ok so the games name is Resident Evil Revelations 2 it was a sequel to resident evil revelations which is a spin-off to the mainline games to sorta bring back horror into the franchise since during the time RE5 was released and by that point resident evil had turned towards action then survival-horror. As much as revelatjons was enjoyable I think what really brought back horror was Revelations 2!! And without it the series probably wouldn’t have made a drastic turn in tone during RE7’s development. I’ve played it seven times (/srs) on my stepdads playstation and I’m replaying it on my computer!!! It’s rlly fun and I enjoy reliving the entire story again, it’s the first resident evil game I’ve played and it rlly helped rope me into the series!!! It’s gotten me through some Moments and I wished it got more recognition then it has :<

ANYWAYS IMMA TALK ABOUT SOMETHING I RLLY WANTED TO ELABORATE ON !! A couple of months ago I made a silly funny heehee hoohoo post about the style of horror revelations 2 had going on. It’s WAY different then the other games. Besides RE4-6 since those are more focused on shooting and killing, the rest of the series had a sort of… change in its way of scaring the audience. Resident Evil 1 was such a quiet horror, very much suspenseful and isolated. It focuses on the fear of being lonely, but never alone. Resident Evil 2 is more similar but being in a zombie infested police station brought some chaos into the order so you’re more thinking about what the fuck is even HAPPENING then the vast emptiness Spencer’s mansion can bring you. Resident Evil 3 focuses on the survival part of survival-horror since it’s Jill trying to escape the city and not get mauled by zombies, hunters, and Nemesis. Resident Evil 7 of course is the fear of being chased, the thrill of prey v predator. It also adds a subtle nyctophobia feel with it with all its dark areas where the only thing illuminated is your flashlight.

Meanwhile, Revelations 2 style of horror is just… so tragic. It’s a sad, sad game that explains the life after the end. What we left behind and how it festers into something so horrific that perhaps death was the best option. The empty village and deserted city of Sejm Island terrifies me in the same way Chernobyl terrifies everyone else. It’s a fear of abandonment. Homes destroyed and wrecked a part. Death still lingers in the air as rot and decay settle in as it’s new inhabitants. And deep in the rust of the old metal fences lays a new breed of BOW’s that are just fucked up man. This game’s atmosphere makes me so fucking sad and afraid. The islands inhabitants have all been turned into the well-named Afflicted, and soon after six months of decay they become the Rotten. This isn’t in the middle of an outbreak, this is it. There’s nothing else left to salvage. This is way after the virus has been exposed. It’s like the walking dead but without survivors. Just miles upon miles of corpses standing around with no purpose. Some just lay on the ground cause what else is there to do? What more is there to this existence when there’s nothing left of you to become? And as you travel deeper into the city of Sejm you see warehouses and bars and apartments and fuck man people LIVED here. There’s letters scattered everywhere and people have suffered for so so long and nobody heard their cries for help. Their family members were taken in the dead of night to be mangled and torn apart and then put back together again. The Revenants are the prime example of what the citizens of the island had to go through. They’re disgusting. They’re not human. Not anymore. And still once the Afflicted slowly start to wither away these creatures of night begin to ingest the island- or is it more like moving back in? No matter what they look like now, this was still their home. This was still where they lived, where they cherished life, where they loved and danced and ate and cried and died in. I’ve said this before so so many times but oh my god people LIVED here and I will NEVER forget it. THIS is what scares me. These people have died so long ago and there’s no way To save them. The only person who survived long enough died on the island not because of the T-Phobos virus but because he was just too old to even leave. He was doomed to die in this hell from the start. Dying in the remnants of what used to be his home, while somewhere up above whatever is left of his daughter is trudging through the island trying to find its way to a home it forgot about. This island is abandoned. This island is dead. And there’s nothing you can do about it.

maybe vanya still gets some training bc of that! because if lila, part-time powerless, trains, and doesn’t use powers for half of battles, maybe vanya, “powerless,” can train and fight too

and i know this isnt a good thing bc like. hellooo child soldiers lmao?? but also vanya would feel like shes more of a part of the family and would have a friend by her side and maybe wouldnt even want to write the book in the first place

but also at the end of s1, when it’s discovered vanya DOES have powers, and they’re the most powerful of them all, actually, maybe lila grows bitter

i think allison might also be a bit humbler before stepping into marriage in regards to using her powers

because if someone uses her own power on her as she’s growing up i feel like she’d learn that doing that has big consequences faster? maybe she’d still rumour her way into some roles or some classy interviews or just in general use her powers to help her career a bit... but i think with her knowing what its like to be rumoured she wouldn’t use it in personal situations. so maybe she wouldnt rumour claire.

maybe claire doesn’t exist at all bc it’s implied she rumoured patrick into falling in love with her :bonk: or maybe she still married patrick but later on because their relationship needs to develop first
