to attracts/retain students, it seems like smaller colleges (2 year and 4 year alike) are trying to go all-in on like... job training and certification. and while that’s noble and practical and all i also think it misses out on opportunities to do more interesting things. it doesn’t need to be like, Degree to Get You A Job With Health Insurance on the one hand and From Chaucer to Che: The Poetics of Revolution. i think there are other options!

 taking a place like erie, PA for example, it’s the sort of place where people born there aren’t necessarily loo king to stick around so you get a bit of regional brain drain. but i wonder whether you could make use of the place and create opportunities for people to learn about the places where they’ve grown up. it would take some logistical/curricular changes, but i imagine there would be some interest--if only because people might like the opportunity to understand how the Good Jobs were created and why they no longer exist. but the only way to find out is if you create that opportunity

Not to sound too much like r/showerthoughts/, but: if there actually was gold at the end of every rainbow, it'd be worthless.

Gold is only as valuable as it is because of scarcity. If you could get some every time it rained, it'd be so common that it wouldn't have any value. It'd just get used in small amounts for electrical/industrial uses, like how gold is today.

Now, this is assuming that there's pots of gold but not leprechauns. If there are leprechauns there, maybe they make it hard enough to collect the pots of gold that it still maintains some value. But they'd have to be some mean leprechauns.
