Tiếng bốt da vang vọng khắp dãy hành lang lạnh lẽo. Em nhận ra ngay chủ nhân của âm thanh đấy. Phải chăng là do âm thanh đó đặc trưng đến nỗi em chỉ cần nghe là biết, cũng có thể là do chỉ duy người đó mới có thể đặt chân đến tầng này.

Alva mở khóa "rương báu" và bước vào bên trong căn phòng chỉ lập lòe thứ ánh sáng mờ nhạt của đèn ngủ. Đến gần chiếc giường ở giữa căn phòng, lão thấy khay kim loại không còn đồ ăn thừa, thấy trên sàn không vương vãi mảnh thuỷ tinh bị ném vỡ, thấy viên thuốc được chuẩn bị không còn lăn lóc trên bàn như mọi khi, và gã thấy báu vật của gã đang ngồi ngay ngắn trên giường. Quả là một cảnh tượng chẳng mấy khi xảy ra.

Khi Alva đến gần, Azura vươn tay ra ôm cổ rồi ngồi gọn vào lòng lão. Em vùi mặt vào hõm cổ, hôn lên những vết sẹo chằng chịt trên làn da lạnh lẽo như băng của người đó.

Alva thở dài và lắc đ��u cười bất lực trước chiêu trò của con bé. Azura luôn phản ứng gay gắt mỗi khi lão đến gần vì em ghét cay ghét đắng cái gã đã tước đi tự do của em. Và cũng là Azura, người luôn tỏ ra âu yếm như thế này, chỉ khi em muốn xin xỏ gì đó từ lão. Nhớ lại lần đầu tiên chứng kiến, Alva đã từng rất vui vì nghĩ cuối cùng em cũng đã chấp nhận lão. Nhưng giờ lão đã hiểu quá rõ chiêu này của Azura.

"Chẳng mấy khi em ngoan như này." - Lão nói trong khi vòng tay qua eo em.

Người là một tồn tại đẹp đẽ và thanh cao. Người là vầng trăng mà tôi chẳng bao giờ chạm tay đến được.

Tôi giận người, vì quá đỗi vô tình. Tôi hờn người, vì đã chẳng tồn tại. Tôi ghét người, vì tôi chẳng thể ngừng yêu.

"I could argue it's flat, but my heart wouldn't be in it." Alras knew the world wasn't flat, but he had appreciated Ameridan convincing half his companions that he'd thought it was. If Alras hadn't been in such a tight spot at the beginning of all this, he might have done the same thing.

"Let them think we conspire. They're going to think that anyways," Alras said with a sardonic grin. "Two elves talking? Must be conspiring to overthrow the empire."

Honestly, he wished he had enough people to overthrow the empire of Orlais. That place sucked. Not that he would actually do it, probably. That seemed like a lot of work and he already had a lot of work on his plate.

"However, if that's your polite way from excusing yourself from the conversation, by all means. I'm sure I have some nobles to meet that I'm definitely not avoiding."

"In it, surely", Ameridan replied smoothly, taking the change of topic in stride. "The world is all around us, not only underneath. Unless you want to argue it is flat?" There were still some who did, he'd been told, but not as many as in his own time—and even then the belief had been limited to the very ignorant and the very paranoid, those who'd had no one to teach them and those who'd had no one they trusted.

He had convinced half of the Inquisitor's closest companions that was his own belief once, but he suspected it had only worked because they hadn't realized his capacity for mischief yet. That side of him was rarely seen.

He glanced at Alras, wondering if he'd just said the first thing that came into his head, or if there was some other reasoning behind it. "You are right, though—this isn't the time for discussions about saving the world and what it makes you, and we probably look like we conspire, staying so long in one place talking."
