I kinda dig the idea of Emmet's character arc of learning to fly solo.

Like really dig it. He takes up the mantle, doubles down on being a Subway Master and makes himself a man that both him and his brother would be proud of. He always seems very assure of who he is and what he likes. He is-- was part of a two-car train, but he has to commit to his duty and drive on.

This wasn't just an Emmet who was only seeking his brother back. This is a man who feels that something was wrong and took the initiative to confront some powerful people. This was not just for his brother but to get answers for the safety of his community and fellow workers/employees.
