A dimension I've been thinking about adding to my depiction of Khorne (and by extension his daemons) after today's session:
The line "we are not animals" stands out to me because of the gods, Khorne is EASILY the most animalistic and animal coded. He is LITERALLY a dog-headed creature and my personal depiction of him has him existing in a beast-like state until intelligent beings came alone. This is opposite the other gods, who were sentient and intelligent from their births (and even before it, in Slaanesh's case).
While it IS true that the Gods are paradoxical in their being ( Khorne is a savage, but also honorable, Nurgle's portfolio is despair and decay but he's the happiest of the bunch, Tzeentch's porfolio is lies and insanity but also hope and intelligence, Slaanesh is artistic and perfection, but also a degenerate who also pushes for excess), the fact of the matter is that intelligent beings are valued over those who are not. Beasts have a VERY clear place in the hierarchy of the worlds of order and chaos: on the bottom. Being ordered around, made into beasts of burden, butchered and eaten, ect.
Khorne's not a beast anymore, but you already know the other gods look down on him being having been one and still acting like one much of the time. The skaven are similarly looked down upon as jumped up rats, the beastmen too (hell, the beastmen are treated like shit by the writers of WHFB lmaooo).
Makes ya wonder if Khorne isn't just a teensy weensy bit insecure about his past as an animal and the reason he hates his brothers is because he knows they think little of him for this past and the reason he hates Slaanesh because Slaanesh is the more sophisticated and person-like of the Four Gods, explicitly born from intelligent beings (meanwhile despair, decay, madness, and deception are things even beasts can do)...

A Bloodthirster is a vision of ruin, walking war, the promise of death and gore in excess. When they emerge into the world, they did so in great red swirling storms that warred with the very sky; they left bloody, ashen hoof-prints in their wake and behind them came the relentless tread of daemon warriors. Red and ready to kill, read to die for the glory of their master Khorne.
And then there was Skarbrand.
Alone in the wilds, silent as the grave, odd-eyes glued to the ground deep, deep in thought...

So, I'm thinkin' on my next Tzeentch iteration, the base inspiration creature will be a Starfish since -- like Tzeentch -- they have their "faces" in the middle of their bodies....

So I stumbled upon a little bite of connective tissue between AOS and WHF. In Warhammer, there's a figure called The Horned Man:
And in Age of Sigmar, it is confirmed that The Horned Man is one of Slaanesh's many titles
He is described in the Slaanesh portion of the 4 volume series and said to be tall, antlered, and wielding a staff. In the book he is a force actively tormenting the in-universe writer of the series:
The Poem in question:
The only thing that gives me pause is the final line. Then again, we know the gods sometimes LARP as other beings and Slaanesh is absolutely a shapeshifter.

(I had some grand dream-fueled conspiracy speculation about childe but I'm so eepy that I can't make sense of it but also like I can if you get me)
(anyway my theory is this: childe's name is ajax who is meta-wise a great Greek hero
the ancient unified civilizations such as enkanomiya were very explicitly Greek inspired. ergo the implications is childe's name originates from this era and potentially a prominent figure of that time
additionally, ancient civilizations like enkanomiya are implied to have all been sunk down into the earth, getting close or even falling right to the abyss
we also know teyvat history and nature is to be cyclic. things always repeat in some form or manner
in fontaine aq, childe mentions he "awakened" to something when falling into the abyss, and it's implied to be tied to his strange bad moods and uncontrollable hydro via vision
ergo ergo tldr conclusion theory: what if what childe awakened to was a sort of "link" to the ajax of yore. an ajax who might have fallen into the Abyss when the thrones came, became twisted by its energies or otherwise aligning with the abyss in nature, and is now trying to..... usurp? merge? with his "current incarnation" and repeat a cycle that should have completed itself differently or even break out of the cyclic fate of all teyvatians?
perhaps this ancient ajax isn't really twisted by the abyss more so than he just wants to reclaim his own fate through his new incarnation.......
or something im going back to being snork minimi now)

Concept: Slaanesh's hair being similar to Lion's mane from SU, only he just keeps various brushes and combs and a dagger and whatsuch in there--

So, Nurgle and Slaanesh are both described as being eccentric and galling to the Blood God.
BUT. Khorne is merely puzzled and dismissive of Nurgle's eccentricities. Slaanesh is hated for his, even though both of them are pretty despicable.
#i genuinely wonder if GW realizes that they made khorne like? femmephobic or even queerphobic adjacent?#or if it was just an accidental byproduct of many different writers interpreting the source material differently#big thonkle#ooc#warhammer fantasy#khorne

I like to think the daemons in the Forge of Souls were worshippers of Hashut in life, maybe even Daemon Princes. We know Godlings can create their own daemons from their mortals (the Horned Rat does this with his Verminlords), so maybe the Forge-Daemons come from the Forge-God? Maybe they're the Sorceror-Prophets and Hell-Workers of the Dawi-Zharr once the Curse of Hashut completely consumes them?
After all, both bind daemons into great machines....
#ooc#big thonkle#The Forge itself appears to be neutral ground#or maybe Hashut owns it and nobody fucks with Hashut because Hashut he's too useful with no real allegiances anyway
