and, if Albedo have his own personal botanist, what about xiao have his own personal chef, or something like that? the reader working at wangshu inn as the chef or maid 👀 (this the request... If you want to make something from this absurd idea 👀👀)
Hehe I like your thought process, anon. Albedo and Xiao really just: 😏👉👉 *finger guns* 👈👈 😑 for having reader assistants in my masterlist huh.
Making this solely a personal chef/maid thing would defo make this response hella short so I added in more info and background just like I did with Albedo's, so I hope you guys end up enjoying this one too!!
It isn't an absurd idea, but I sure as hell made an absurd answer to it kek
Xiao's Devoted "Chef"
Xiao with a Reader who is not only his Personal Chef but assistant
Background (let's gooo)
The arrival of the Adepti Yaksha in Wangshu Inn was really something I've been intrigued about for a while now, but I won't make much assumptions here because his banner is coming and more info would be given to us.
Xiao had long since been residing in and spends a majority of his time in this Inn yet its owners, Verr Goldet and Huai'an, barely knows anything about the adepti or his lifestyle.
So on a sunny, quaint day like any other where calmness passes through the lands without worry, they expected the Adepti to resign himself to a moment of peace and rest too.
So color them surprised when they save the familiar silhouette of the adepti ascending to the top floor. Porcelain white skin and clear tank top glittered with fresh blood as a broken and bruised figure lays unconscious in his arms. The couple was thankful that there were no customers out and about that day, because it would be a disaster for an audience to witness such a thing. Also bad for business, but they'll hold that in at the back of their mind.
Skilled workers were quick to work with their seemingly extensive experience with such a protocol. As they tended to the victim, the Boss stayed behind to tend to and inquire with the Adepti. Yet such a conversation between them came out strained:
There were no visible wounds that require immediate medical attention but there was a look in his eyes that feels much more broken than anything they can fix. Verr's hands hover over him in an attempt to urge him to clean up his still bloodied form. His amber eyes that were usually sharp looks through a distance light-years away.
"Xiao," the woman started and the eyes snapped out of its reverie, subtly looking around to ground himself. "What happened? And are you okay?"
"Their- the parents died from a Hilichurl ambush, I was only able to save the child," his crossed arms gripped at his forearm in the realization of his utter mistake. "32 seconds."
"32 seconds?" The Mondstadtian offered a fresh set of hot towels he had taken, and he had flinched when he saw the carnage that stuck close to his skin.
"I was 32 seconds late."
Your parents were adventurers who brought you with them as big fans of traveling and nomadic lifestyle, no set home yet freely living by. You were in your younger teens and you'd clarified you had no other family to go to.
The death of your parents came as an obvious shock to your young self yet you grieved in silence and sobs, as the only person you trust hovers next to where you rest in silent contemplation.
Verr knows that look, and it was something she hasn't seen on the Adepti before. Of pure guilt and a sense of responsibility.
That night you rested surprisingly nightmare-free as your savior stands his ground next to where you rest.
Present Times
The couple had adopted you into the Inn family without a second's hesitance and you were thankful for them as you were to Xiao. You were no heavy expense or disadvantage and that made it all the more easier to adapt into your new lifestyle.
Despite no words or explanation, you were perfectly aware of the deeds your savior had done to save you and keep you alive, and with that you had sworn to serve him until the end of your time. A life for a life, equivalent exchange.
Coming into terms with being in Liyue and the Inn, your life choices were meddled with commerce and the importance of livelihood. You were young but your guilt of being under the care of such people forced you to take on any and every responsibility you can handle.
Despite your background you were expertly skilled with cooking. Your mother and father always taught you the importance of a meal for adventurers whenever you'd camped out. And your special touch on dishes that saves adventurers had drawn in many appetites.
Business boomed and the Inn wasn't just famous for being a temporary residence, but a sanctuary that offers tastes paired with the divine sense of Celestia. You became Wangshu Inn's Head Chef, with your sous-chef Smiley Yanxiao.
At times where Xiao is forced to make rounds to seize looming threats, he'd find himself picking fresh and healthy ingredients he'd find on the way back and present to you for new recipes to experiment on.
But you also pride yourself with a different title, or titles: The Adepti's Personal Chef, Tender of the Yaksha, Adepti's Devotee.
This title was emphasized by the Sigil of Permission sewn into an armband hanging by your right arm, something you proudly wear even beyond the walls of the Inn.
You found out the Adepti's favorite during your daily visit and breaks, usually done so by hanging out in the balcony with him with a brand new recipe you recently made and wanted to test out.
While he sat parallel to you, he eyed the transparent syrup and the gelatinous substance in the obvious curiousity he shows for all your new creations, silently awaiting your opinion by watching your expression: whenever you show even the slightest distaste, he'll pointedly ignore his curiousity and the dish altogether. And if you express such pride and achievement, his interest will get the better of him, if you haven't offered the dish quickly enough.
"What is this?" He'd finally ask after your delighted moans, indulging on your own creation.
"Mmm, Almond Tofu... do you wish to try it?" Without an answer he'd pick up the only spoon on the plate and tasted it himself. And just like that, he'd froze, eyes full blown in surprise and awe.
"Do you like it?" He can only hum in response as he scarfs down the plate by himself, chewing respectfully yet with a hint of vigor in every scoop. "It tastes... like dreams..." the way he looked at you, with eyes possessing such childlike wonder, you couldn't help but fall.
After that, Xiao had requested a daily plate/offering of it. It became a routine to the point that all workers heard of the favoritism and are encouraged to learn the recipe. But it's usually your dish that is served, unless special occasions calls for someone else.
There has been an influx of dormers and adventurers recently as citizens around Teyvat flock to the Liyue continent in hopes to watch the most extravagant celebration of the new year, the Lantern Rite Festival.
Your best efforts manning the kitchen together with Yanxiao took gruelling hours just to prepare for the dinner's first course even with hours of prep time available. Even both bosses had to lend some hands as your sous-chef can barely keep up with your stride. And after the dishes are finally distributed to the dining hall, you were already set in cleaning up the kitchen, and before you knew it-
"It has been an hour."
"It was a busy day, I'm sorry, Xiao." You could only muster a mumble in guilt as you kept your head down on the usual table, refusing to look at the disapproving expression he definitely wore, except he doesn't. His face has the slightest hints of worry and wonder at your deflated composure.
But his focus now was on the food he has been craving the whole day, already digging into his dessert. And you just tried your hardest not to fall asleep on the cold, wooden tabletop. Until your tummy rumbled through the silence.
A hum. "You haven't eaten?" You shake your head as you lift your head, gazing at the cute sight of your guardian tilting his head to the side in slight distaste for your lifestyle. You open your mouth to retort until you felt the cold utensil touch your bottom lip. "Here, I saved you the last bite. After this, get yourself a meal and retreat to your quarters, I don't want to hear any excuses." He softly urges a little push with the spoon so you get the hint, and you wrap your lips around it, chewing and gulping down cold dessert. He offered his favorite food, used the same spoon, and spoon fed you with it—
"Wha... don't- don't bite the spoon," you squeeze your eyes tight from the embarrassing thoughts in your head.
When people wish to have an audience with Xiao, most of the time they head to you for guidance after inquiring with Verr. They require a sigil of permission, and most of the times, your own sigil has been under fire a lot in their desperation.
An old merchant who desperately wants to hire the adepti to aid his caravan with personal security once tried to claw at your armband, but a split second after the tip of his fingers had touched the cloth, he was blown away to the nearest wall.
"What-," a pressure on your left shoulder pulls your other against a lean chest, protectively squeezing as a polearm materialized in front of you. You can feel the ragged vibrations of the Yaksha's unusually heavy breaths, his amber eyes sharp and dangerous, dilated like a predator.
"What gives you the idea that you had the authority to lay a hand on my assistant?" Black and teal embers conjure around you two as a dark shadow slowly creeps up from the ground. "That is their sigil of permission; I want nothing to do with you mere mortals."
If not for Verr and the other staff, things would have gone gruesome and unsightly for the business. Yes, business. Everyone disliked the guy enough to care more about the Inn than his actual well-being. When he'd come to, he was forced out of the Inn (he would have done so himself anyways as he was already traumatized).
"Sir Xiao, why did you do that?"
"He didn't have a Sigil, he was pretty much asking for it. And why have you gone formal?" You pouted at him and his only response was a quirked eyebrow. Walking over to stand behind him, you slowly wiggled your arms through the gap between his waist and slack arms, finding it easy enough with how thin his waist is as you wrapped him in a hug.
He tensed from the secretly ticklish feeling before letting down his guard in your arms. This was one of your leeway as his most devoted follower. Your constant exposure with the aid of the divine sigil has made you immune to the negative effects of Adeptal energy, enough to make him nigh worry about your safety around him anymore.
And him letting you hug him like this... let's just say it's from your mannerisms of comfort when you were still young and around him.
"Take an indefinite leave," Xiao broke the silence a few minutes after, forcing you to crane your head to the side to look at him. He meets your gaze with an amused glint. "You have no debt to pay here, you shouldn't be holed up in a place like this."
"It is true that me leaving wouldn't have majooor repercussions, but what's with the sudden idea?"
He huffs. "You're my only follower and yet you divide your attention serving temporary mortals that will pass by without remembrance. And besides," you tense at the sight of an upturn on the edge of lip, pearly whites subtly peeking, "personal does not mean sharing."
You were an adventurer at heart and it's time you indulge in that glorified life of excitement, with your guardian by your side. It was the only gift he can come up with for your undying devotion.
Holy - I had to cut this thing A LOT because I wrotE A HECKIN LOT WTF?! It's not even done in my mind, my goodness, there should be an adventuring unit here too but hhhh I got too conscious of the length sksksks I'm so sorry! P-Part 2-?

Could you write 22 “Oh, you’re just grumpy” with Monkie King and a deage MK?
OOOOH coming back to this? Yeah, I am totally up for giving this another go! MK is having a not so great time, nothing warning worthy but I do HC him not being the healthiest kid. Mild spoilers for season 2 episodes 1 and 2.
Oh, you're just grumpy.
"Noooooooo!" MK shouted, stomping his foot on the ground in anger. "I'm not grumpy, I'm mad! You can't let them leave me behind! Take me back! I'm the Monkie Kid! I have to do this myself! I-"
"You are currently physically 4 years old with all the control over your powers of that age," Sun Wukong rebutted with a soft sigh, frowning and wincing at the high pitched angered scream in reaction he received at that. That was... not the best way to go about this... He needed a different tactic.
He knelt down to be at eye level with his now even younger protégé, holding out his hand. When MK stared at it he chanced putting it on his shoulder and continued when MK didn’t shrug it off or start yelling again. “Bud, MK, it’s ok. I know you’re frustrated. You have every right to be! But we just want to make sure you’re safe until we can get you back to normal.”
This was not the kind of trouble the Monkey King expected to happen immediately before... well, put a cork on that for now. But this wasn't the kind of trouble be expected to happen regardless of time frame. How in the world anyone managed to not only curse an object in this way but find a way to slip it on his student was anyone's guess. But the fact of the matter was that MK, the Monkie Kid himself, was now physically 4 years old. Mentally, he was still the same age he was before the curse, personality and memories still completely intact... for the most part, it became clear to them very quickly that being physically a kid again came with more than just a smaller body. It came with the mood swings and heightened emotions of “kid brain” as Mei called it, when MK immediately burst into tears at just the mention of being left behind so Mei and the others could go after the demon. And then he couldn’t figure out why he was crying, whether from frustration or worry or both or why he even started, which lead to more crying out of sheer confusion, which made everyone feel very bad.
They’d managed to calm him down long enough for the Monkey King get him on his cloud and bring him to Flower Fruit Mountain in case the demon attempted to go after him like this, but that was short lived once they actually made landfall.
"But I can do this!" MK continued, pouting and tears of frustration starting to peak at the corners of his eyes once again, albeit calmer frustration. "I-I beat the Spider Queen! I can handle one demon who had to slap a bracelet on me to make me a kid to beat me, even if I'm tiny! I can kick his butt!"
"I know you can, Bud," Wukong said evenly, offering him an understanding smile. "And normally I'd let you go in guns blazing and know you could handle everything no problem now! You've more than proven you can handle stuff even I couldn't. If you were just shrunk I wouldn’t dare think you couldn’t handle this." He reached out a hand, ruffling his hair far more gently that he normally would. But still rough, rough enough to let him know he wasn't going to just treat him like glass now. "But this is a bit different. Remember what I said when Macaque was having you use your full power?” MK scowled for a second before nodding. “Using your powers like this? Could hurt you. And I don’t want to see you get hurt like that. Heck, even I would have trouble controlling my powers and probably get hurt if I was turned into a little kid monkey man, and if this happened to me I would trust you if you told me to stay safe."
"... you would?" MK asked softly, and Wukong nodded. Maybe it was a... bit of a stretch of the truth. Sun Wukong would probably need some convincing too (Great Sage title leading to Great Misjudgement sometimes, the previously mentioned Spider Queen fight a key example), but that's just one more thing he and MK had in common.
"Course I would,” Wukong said, and given said convincing that was the truth. “I trust you, MK, and-AGH!" He may be the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, but nothing prepared him for the barreling rocket that was a 4 year old launching themselves at him to hug him with all the strength of... well, himself!
"I trust you too!" MK yelled right in his ear and oh if he thought his student had a loud yell before. But that only lasted for a second before he pulled back from the hug, body limp and head rested on his shoulder as the energy seemed to sap a bit from him as Wukong stood back up and he held him on his hip instead of setting him down when he saw the bright red rings around his eyes and how tired he seemed already... Tang had mentioned that he knew MK wasn’t exactly the healthiest as a child... "But... I feel bad not doing anything..."
"Then we can do something, that's an easy fix!" Wukong laughed, and his chest warmed as he was reminded of the few children he had helped take care of or play with while on the long journey centuries ago. He was a softie, really. "No training though, I am not going to body slam you when you come up to my knees."
This apparently was the magic joke to make, making MK devolve into a fit of giggles. A testament to how this cursed object affected him, he never would have giggled at that without it. Probably... MK had an odd sense of humor sometimes. But then again, so did he!
"Actually... I think I have just the thing for us to try."
~
All things considered, Wukong probably should have expected something like this. He did tell MK that he probably didn’t have much control over his powers. And that using his powers was a bad idea. And Tang did warn him he wasn’t a healthy child. The three together were a bad combo when his powers activated with MK’s unconscious reactions to certain things...
“How you feeling, Bud?” Wukong whispered softly, rubbing his back as he laid face down on his couch. He’d barely used his powers at all, just activated his true sight to find ingredients when they were cooking without even thinking about it, but that was enough to make the kid’s head feel like it was splitting open (in symptoms that sounded like a migraine, which... yeah, he felt really bad for him, and the jolt of worry and fear that shot through him surprised him less than he felt it should). “Still bad?”
There were a few of Wukong’s monkeys hanging out on the couch, one in particular was curled up next to MK’s head. Perhaps they were keeping him company while he wasn’t feeling well and nodded off in the process.
“I think I’m ok now,” MK answered, sitting back up and leaning into the Monkey King’s side (he seemed to seek out contact a lot more like this, letting Wukong carry him to the house, leaning on his shoulder when he showed him how to prepare the snacks they were making, now this... it made him wonder just how much physical affection he got as a kid). He looked leagues better than he had just 40 minutes ago, thankfully not nearly as exhausted as he had looked before he laid down. “Headache went away... I dunno, a while ago. But I didn’t wanna get up.”
“Completely understandable,” Wukong nodded in approval, glad that he’d gotten some form of rest. He needed it after everything he had been through. “You feel like getting up now, though? I made us some lunch... dinner... not desert food! Just like I promised.”
“Yeah!” MK exclaimed, immediately jumping off the couch and making his way to the kitchen like a rocket. “How about our snacks, how much longer do they have? Do you think we did ok? Do you think the others are gonna like em!?”
“They still have well over an hour of sitting in the fridge,” Wukong laughed, following him and watching him scramble to sit on one of the chairs at the table. “But I think we did a pretty good job of making annin tofu for the first time. They already look pretty darn delicious.” The almond jelly dish wasn’t as hard as he believed it would be, and using agar even he would be able to enjoy it... once he added some peaches on top, of course! “But that’s for later, for now what do you think of your meal?” MK looked up from his bowl, a spoonful of rice and vegetables already in his mouth. Wukong couldn’t help but laugh. “I think I’ll take that as a job well done.”
The two ate their respective lunches, rice and steamed vegetables for MK and rice and fruits for Wukong, talking about what dishes they could try making together in the future. Being a monkey Wukong had a very limited pallet for what he could (and would, given other circumstances) actually eat, so brainstorming workaround for that was a great way to pass the time before moving back to the couch. They played some, shockingly not Sun Wukong related, games that he had stashed away (and he was very offended by MK’s disbelief that he had media not related to himself in his house, totally offended). The game was one of those ones with a motion controller that you had to move around to play, and MK was having a blast with it.
The monkeys also seemed to be enjoying the show quite a lot.
Before the two knew it the sun had begun to set, MK’s grip on his controller starting to weaken as he sat down on the couch and attempted to keep his eyes open. Even with his rest earlier he was exhausted.
“Did anyone... tell you anything yet?” He asked softly, once again leaning into Wukong’s side with a yawn.
“Not yet,” Wukong admitted, looking at MK’s phone for the fourth time in he hour. “Not since they told me they found out where the demon went. But that probably means they’re focused on catching him! They’re gonna get the guy, I have a good feeling about it.”
“If you say so...” MK mumbled out, the controller slipping from his grasp as he closed his eyes.
“UH.. Bud? MK?” Wukong gently nudged his student, smiling softly when he realized that he’d just fallen asleep. “OK, that game clearly did it’s job a little too well.” He made to stand up, stopping short when something tugged on his clothing. MK had an iron grip on him, holding tight to his side and not looking like he was going to be letting go any time soon.
Well... Wukong didn’t have the heart to make him let go or chance waking him up to move him... so instead he took a hair and poofed up a blanket to lay over top of MK as he made himself comfortable on the side of the couch. It didn’t take long, and it took even less time for the monkeys around the house to curl up around and on top of the duo.
It was nice... Wukong didn’t want to admit it, but he was going to miss this. Not just when MK was changed back to his normal age, but when he had to... “go on vacation”.
He felt bad, lying to his student. His kid, now that he realized he couldn’t keep from admitting that to himself. But he trusted MK, genuinely trusted him in this regard, to keep everyone in the city safe while he was gone and he didn’t want the extra stress of knowing just what Wukong was really doing to weigh him down. He knew how much MK worried, seen how much anxiety he had after Macaque and the fight with the Spider Queen, how hard it would be to keep him from following him into places that were too dangerous for him to traverse without training they hadn’t completed yet.
He... really regretted not training him more in the beginning. Regretted it more than most things he had lately. Maybe if he had he could have explained things to him better. Known that if he did sneakily follow him he would at least be in much less danger.
He couldn’t let himself be too close after this. He’d have to go back to normal, aloof, jokey, “ah you’re fine cool beans good luck bud I believe in you!” Monkey King. For MK’s sake.
As he looked down at the sleeping child curled into his side he had to make himself believe it was for MK’s sake.
Why did that feel like it was a lie?

Sands of Eon (2/2)
(A/N): hoped you liked the first part. Enjoy! Read with sad music cause I wrote it with sad music. I hope you cry lol.
Part 1 here!
Fighting in a battle changes a person. But surviving an Archon war destroys them.
At least now, you had a better understanding of what Xiao went through before. And seeing how it affected you, it made you all the more thankful that you could suffer in place of Xiao.
Once you arrived in the past, you had successfully prevented the contract between Kubira and Xiao from coming to fruition. It was simple really. Kubira wanted a servant to do his bidding, and figured Xiao would be perfect for the role. But if the god were to find someone before Xiao, someone who was willing to become his bloodhound instead, there would be no reason for him to actively search out the adeptus. In short, you took over Xiao’s role in the war. It was the only plan that would change the outcome of the war and the future the least, without having others get involved.
All it took was offering yourself. You had surprised the god, who was amused that a mere human would want to serve in his army. But he decided to humor you, and in exchange for your obedience to his orders, he granted you immortality and increased power. By the end of the forsaken war, your power had become strong enough to rival an adeptus’. At the price of insurmountable bloodshed.
You hadn’t seen Xiao during the war, something that you were thankful for later on.
Not a day would pass that you wouldn’t think of him; hesitating, wondering if you would be able to face him after all that you had done. If he would look at you in disgust, knowing of all the deeds you had done for your master. If it would be worth facing his hatred, just to get a glimpse of his face once more.
Once the long war reached its end, Rex Lapis freed you from the chains of your blood-filled servitude. You had considered asking the archon to bring an end to your curse of immortality, but decided against it.
You could have had a merciful death, spending the last of your days as a human. But you didn’t deserve such an easy death, not after all the inhumane sins you committed. What you truly deserved, was to live every day of the rest of your immortal life; remembering every life you had taken, every drop of blood shed with your polearm, never being able to escape the horrors you submitted yourself to. You would continue to roam Teyvat, neither human nor adeptus, barely surviving, barely hanging on the thread of sanity left in you. Never forgetting that you had chosen your fate.
And the selfish part of you urged you to keep your immortality as well. You held onto the selfish desire to see Xiao one day, smiling and celebrating, surrounded by the people of Liyue. Blissfully unaware of what you endured and suffered, in his stead.
And as a millennia passed, you never once regretted changing your fate with Xiao’s. You had made your choice, and you now lived with it.
Your life followed in the steps of Xiao’s original fate, spending your days and years protecting Liyue; an atonement for your sins, as well as gratitude to the Geo Archon who saved you. On quiet days, you ate Almond Tofu at the Wangshu Inn, finally understanding why the adeptus had craved the dish so much before. It was the texture, rather than the taste that made it so alluring.
Avoiding the yaksha in the millennia had been easier than you thought. The only way you would hear about Xiao was through the Geo archon, who came to visit every now and then, checking up on you from time to time. He would update you on the man’s whereabouts and health during each visit, keeping the adeptus nameless, per your request.
“I don’t remember my real name.”
“Xiao isn’t your real name?”
“No, it was given to me by Morax after the Archon War…”
Xiao wasn’t his name anymore, and you figured not knowing his name would prevent you from ever seeking him. The less you knew, the better.
“It’s the last night of the Lantern Rite festival, (Y/N).”
Verr Goldet informs you as you greet her on your way up the stairs.
“Is it that time already?” you asked with a small smile. You reached down to pet the cat who rubbed her back against your leg with a purr.
“The traveler stopped by to let you know his invitation to join him and his flying companion at the festival still stands.”
You looked out at the terrace, watching the violet, sunset sky turn darker with each minute.
“You know me. I’m fine watching from the roof.” you responded, shaking your head.
The Wangshu owner gave a sigh at your response.
“At least go to the mountains for a better view. I’ll pack you an Almond Tofu so you can eat dinner up there while watching the ending festivities.”
Seeing her pleading face, you couldn’t reject her suggestion.
You finally reached the top of the mountain, giving you a good view of the city of Liyue, as well as the lanterns floating in the sky. Looking down into the city square, you could see the people of Liyue celebrating the last moments of the festival: children running around with last-minute made lanterns, lovers gathered near the bridge hand-in-hand, and Ruijin explaining the rules of her new game to the curious crowd. But it was the crowd gathered in the center, dancing in a big circle that grabbed your attention.
You spotted a figure dressed in teal, playing a flute instead of his usual lyre, providing music for the crowd to dance to. You smiled seeing the anemo archon having the time of his life. And it seemed that one more figure was having the time of his life, in the center of the dancing circle, wearing a mask and dancing along to the bard’s wind music.
Your breath hitched at the sight of the figure. Even with the mask on, you could recognize him anywhere. It was your first time seeing him in over a millennia, and you could still remember his face, down to every last detail.
Before you knew it, tears streamed down your face, the sight of finally seeing him overwhelming you with emotions.
“Looks like your wish was granted too.” you laughed happily through your tears, remembering what he had wrote on the lantern you once gave him long ago.
“For a day to come to wear the mask, not to conquer demons, but to dance to the tune of that flute amidst a sea of flowers.”
- Xiao
As he continued dancing, you were entranced, never being able to see this side of him before your time venture.
It was only when the ending rite began that he had stopped his movement, taking his mask off to properly watch the show. Your heart stopped at the sight of his face, a small smile gracing his features. And it wasn’t until the ending fireworks rang in your ears, that your heart was reminded to beat again, realizing you had spent the whole ending festival watching him.
You took a moment to look out at the vast sea of lanterns, wondering if Xiao had made one of his own, and what wish he had written on the lantern. Taking one last look at the brightly-lit night sky, you turned your attention back to the city, watching as a group of people surrounded Xiao with smiles on their faces. And at the sight of his responding smile, all the pain you had endured up til now was forgotten.
“Xiao.” you called out quietly.
It was the wrong name, but it was the only one you knew him by.
The yaksha darted his eyes around the crowd, seemingly as if he had heard you call out to him. Although, it was far too loud with festivities in the square, and the distance between the two fo you, that it wasn’t likely.
“Happy Lantern Rite.” you whispered, a tear falling down your cheek.
It was worth it. Seeing the smile on his face, surrounded by the people of Liyue who respected him. It was worth your loneliness and pain, to save him from his. Being the only one to remember everything would be a suffering you would gladly take for his happiness.
So, you forced yourself to tear your eyes away from the his figure, away from the lantern-lit city. And silently, you headed down the mountain, back to Wangshu Inn, alone.
(A/N): AhhHHH!, you’ve made it to the end! Thank you for reading! I felt so sad playing the story quest for Xiao during the Lantern Rite festival. I planned on having a happy ending but just ended up going on an angst spiral. Let me know what you thought! from monie - she was determined to make this birthday a bit more special than the previous year. a lot had happened since the last time she celebrated xiao’s birthday with him, and lumine wanted to do more. the traveler understood that for the adepti, the matter of celebrating birthdays were entirely different than the rest of mankind, as the concept itself carried little weight when one lived for many centuries ( and for many of the adepti, celebrating it like any other human just didn’t really come across as something they did often ), but that didn’t matter much to lumine. if any semblance of light could be showered onto xiao, even for his birthday, then lumine would see to it that she was his light.
in some ways, it was to be expected that almond tofu was going to be some kind of offering for the adeptus. it was a surefire way to make him happy, and it was also the one dish she knew that he favored most. her approach to the dish would be handled two different ways; one was her attempt of recreating the recipe into one of inazuma’s own desserts ( the tricolor dango ) and the other was her creating a version of xiao’s favorite dish that she liked to call sweet dream. for the almond tofu dango, the colors chosen were much like xiao’s. there was a white dango, a black one ( it was more like a dark blue ), and finally, a green one. there was a slight bit of nervousness on lumine’s end with just how well he would take to the dish, which was why she had tried extra hard to make sure that sweet dream turned out spectacularly.
after making fireworks for the most recent lantern rite, lumine had wanted to give xiao a special firework showing. she had even asked for yoimiya’s advice as well! though, hopefully setting them off around jueyun karst would be okay, even if the fireworks themselves weren’t as grand as the one from lantern right.
finally, her other gift for xiao, one that she had worked on during the boat ride back from inazuma to liyue, was a necklace. fashioned much like a crystalfly, lumine had made sure that the colors themselves also matched many of the colors she found on xiao and his clothing, to make it more personal to him. even alongside the almond tofu dishes, this was the one that lumine felt most proud of herself for.
walking through jueyun karst, lumine had waited a bit before she finally parted her lips, speaking a name with so much warmth, that when she saw the figure appear before her not too long after, all she could do was look at him with a fond smile, already reaching out for his hand.
“i’m back!, xiao! and just in time to celebrate your birthday today too. i can’t wait for you to see what i got you this time!”
there was no sense of karma lingering in olden air of guili plains, other than xiao’s own presence. time and time again, he’d come out to watch the skies and be alone with his own thoughts. suppose you could say it’s a habit he picked off as a result of yearning for nostalgia, but he wasn’t one to nitpick on the smallest details. however, tonight was a different reason, entirely - it’s been some time since lumine left for inazuma, and xiao couldn’t help but be on a lookout of sorts. while he wouldn’t deny that it’s rather pointless, knowing of the traveler’s superior capabilities, one must always stay vigilant in such case any terrible danger may encounter.
another part of him, though, questioned on what to do should it ever occur ( and he’d pray to rex lapis it never happens or he’ll be damned ). inazuma was a faraway land, its’ ground rules and setbacks, as well as immortal beings and their agendas far more different than one liyue had and the ones he was accustomed to and therefore, not a place the yaksha should step foot in - but would that be the same case if he heard lumine’s cries of help?
there was no time to think as the wind carried out a certain, familiar warmth speaking out his name with longevity ... as if awaiting for the one called upon to be summoned for anything else other than arising danger. yes, this was the warmth xiao was far too familiar with and foolishly picked his pace up to be beckoned in jueyun karst in matter of milli seconds. there, with her brightest smile and kindest eyes, would lumine await with her hand held towards xiao who didn’t recoil nor scorch as he usually would. no ... he remained in one spot, blank and unwavering yet picking up the scent of softness in his aura.
❛ lumine... so, you’ve returned. ❜ he speaks, internally more than relieved to see her unharmed sans for newer scars she must’ve received during her hardships in inazuma. while not upkeep with the world, the yaksha seemed to keep a close ear on any new stories regarding her experiences and learnt, in no time, that she had come face to face with the almighty raiden shogun, the manifestation of thunder herself, thus deliberately ceasing the vision hunt decree. while praise was deserved, xiao couldn’t help the mild concern bubbling in his stomach - how is she fairing? does she need to rest after these experiences? he wasn’t too sure whether he’s the right person for this or not, but it didn’t mean he’d just stand back idly.
golden eyes cascade on bright yellows before sighing softly and moving his hand to hold onto lumine’s with such hesitancy you’d think a stray cat is attempting to make contact with a human. ❛ i already told you before, there was no need to bring me anything for my birthday. ❜ he begins but pauses to look at their conjoined hands, blinking a little before allowing his rigid face a tiniest bit of a smile. ❛ but, if you insist, i’ll accept your gifts. afterwards, we can... hm... we can go to the city, if you’d like. surely, you haven’t been to the harbor in a while... ❜ this would be his best way of gifting her the best possible return to liyue, right?

Vegan Month Conclusion
A month has finally been and gone. The first of my new year's resolutions has come to fruition. It's funny to think about how this started and how my lifestyle has changed throughout it. What an interesting and educative experience.
Make It Vegan Results
I was glad to see the interest that this generated, even if it was modest. I think I would like to keep this open for more people to make suggestions.
The vegan pizza idea was actually done by us already. As a sidenote, Dominoes is actually planning to launch a line of some of the first vegan pizzas in April (thanks, Tara!): http://vegnews.com/articles/page.do?catId=1&pageId=9268
The vegan tacos idea was interesting. Gardein makes it's own brand of fake ground beef, so throwing in some taco seasoning and a few tortilla shells made this dish a cinch!
That's boring.
So, ground beef being the main ingredient, I decided to look up a recipe for a vegan ground beef substitute. I found one made of minced baby portabella mushrooms. So, a bunch of ingredients (and a big mess) later, voila! Vegan ground beef!
And vegan tacos!
If you have anything else you love to eat made into a vegan equivalent, feel free to suggest something in the comments!
What Inspired Me
I was sitting at McDonald's (not vegan-friendly at all, by the way) sipping on iced coffee and looking at my phone when I stumbled upon this article: https://grist.org/food/what-i-learned-from-a-month-of-eating-vegan/
There's actually a lot of articles that are similar to this one. I was intriguied by the results. I happen to live with a flegan(flex-vegan) who was going fully vegan, so I was always hearing things about veganism and it's benefits for animals and the environment.
I come from a small town, so in actuality, veganism isn't even something that is very well understood. So, why not try it? I figured that it would be support for my vegan and (inevitably) non-vegan friends, and I was excited for a new challenge.
Changes
Lifestyle Changes
Our refrigerator always had a decent stock of produce in it. Some of it would inevitably go bad.
Now, I would dare to say that at least half or our entire fridge is stocked with fruits and vegetables. And with fruits and vegetables being the bulk of our diet, I would say that we actually utilize the vast majority of our produce without letting it go to waste. The rest of our fridge is stocked with vegan-friendly condiments, fake cheeses and creams, juice, almond milk, and leftovers (which I also don't let go to waste).
Before going vegan, I found myself eating frozen breakfast sandwiches, cereal, salty instant noodles, seafood alfredo dishes, and asian rice dishes. I would probably get something small/and entire meal out at least 2 or 3 times per week, because it was so easy and tempting to get something cheap and tasty.
Since going vegan, I haven't been able to put my knife down. I've used my cutting board at least once per day to slice and dice potatoes, peppers, oninons, tofu, and various vegetables. There exist several "fake" meats and frozen imitation foods that are pretty easy to make; but even with those I find myself trying to use them sparingly. I find myself using the blender and pots and pans at least once a day as well. Food itself takes about twice as long to make as before (or at least it feels like it) so I try to always keep and savor my leftovers. I only really eat out once or twice per week, because local restaurants offer very limited menu options and more catered menus exist a little more out of the way.
Physically:
-My weight has remained generally the same -My bowl movements are more frequent and healthier -I feel as though I have more energy and I seem to be getting a more healthy, consistent amount of sleep
If there are any other changes, I probably just haven't noticed.
Why Do People Go Vegan?
One reason people adopt the vegan philosophy is for animal rights. I have never identified myself with PETA, but I do believe that animals do have their own thoughts and feelings, and, as a result, deserve to have some level of rights as compared to humans.
Another reason people adopt veganism is because of the environmental impact the consumption of meat has. Cows and other livestock take up a tremendous amount of land and resources, and this is proving more and more difficult to sustain for an ever-increasing population. The United Nations has determined that the number one contributor to Global Warming is Industrial Agriculture.
A last thought as to why people go vegan is for dieting needs. Many people attempt a vegan diet due to the natural health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables, as well as the generally-lower calorie contents. Red meat has been classified as a class one carcinogen, ranking right up alongside cigarettes. The generally-higher fat content contained in meats is also a contributor to heart disease, the number one killer of millions of Americans every year.
My Final Thoughts and Feelings
So? What do I think of it all? Has this changed my life forever? Am I going to identify as a vegan from now on?
What I originally thought was something very difficult and obscure, I now see as a slowly building movement with a growing consumer market. I challenge you to look up pretty much any food dish with the word "vegan" in front of it and see if there's a recipe out for it already (I should know, it's pretty much how I've been getting away with what I have). There are also a wide variety of resources such as Youtube channels (check out Happy Healthy Vegan!), cookbooks, medical books, and more.
Looking back on my lifestyle, I realize just how much I was eating food out and how much I was reaching for things that were easy to eat. It's easy to eat something that looks delicious without ever questioning what goes into it. Going Vegan has given me a truly deep appreciation for what I put in my body. Sure, I might be spending a substantially longer time in my day cooking, but without going Vegan, I never would have appreciated ingredients such as tofu, garbanzo beans, raspberries, cumin, tumeric (it'll make you live forever) agave nectar (still can't remember how to pronounce that one), mushrooms, and more. It's definitely a change, but it's something that I would definitely not let soon go to waste.
So I've decided that I'm going to go completely vegan...
...just kidding. We're going to IHOP this weekend >_>
In all seriousness, I think that I'm definitely going to keep a lot of the lifestyle up. The no-meat non-dairy products will definitely be a stay for me. But it feels like such a shame to let other people's foods and restaurants go to waste. And unless everyone reading this in my life decides they're all going to go vegan with me, or McDonald's (hard to believe I haven't been there in a month) is going to suddenly have even a 10% vegan-friendly menu, I feel like it might be okay to have a little Iced Coffee now and then or perhaps sample a seafood/chicken dip. After all, these things won't be around forever.
Veganism is largely a philosophy rooted in animal rights. Do animals have the same sort of thoughts and feelings that we do? Do they have rights? It alright to kill/take from them?
I remember sitting on my bed after a particularly sad day when my cat, Buddy, placed his front paws on my legs and meowed for attention. It's funny how he always seems to be able to tell when someone in the house is feeling sad. I didn't really appreciate until then just how therapeutic the love of an animal can be.
I'm not entirely sure what sorts of thoughts go through an animal's mind, or exactly what rights animals should have, but I can say this: we are definitely all in this together. From the sheep giving us the wool off their backs, to the small dogs we have bred to herd them, I feel like we have a deep, co-dependent relationship with animals. They might not be a commodity in my eyes, but I feel like we do depend on one another.
What You Can Do
So were you inspired by anything in this blog? Did it make you curious about anything?
Try going vegan for a month yourselves. Don't think you could handle it? Why not a week? Even a day? Trying going vegan only on weekdays or cetain days of the week. Maybe dedicate a day once in a while to having no meat or dairy. Ultimately, any little bit helps, no matter how small. Try making vegan dishes for yourself!
Continuing the Blog
So this is the end of the blog, on facebook at least. But it's not quite over yet.
Any blog posts from here on out will be posted on Tumblr. They'll probably be posted much less often than the weekly ones, but feel free to follow it for any other vegan-related goodness.
In addition, we have an Instagram with pictures of all the things we've been eating here at the house, as well as pictures focused on nature and spirituality. It's very good for inspiring a more holistic lifestyle.

Sands of Eon (1/2)
(A/N): Buckle your seatbelts, cause this is a long one! Read with sad music to really get in the mood. Cause I wrote this with sad music playing in the background lol.
“Do you have a wish, Xiao? I’ll write it on your lantern.”
“No need. I don’t have a lantern nor do I have the desire to make one.” He quickly shut down your offer, no sound of amusement or humor found in his tone. But unfortunately for him, you were used to his constant rejection and came prepared this time.
Grabbing another lantern from under the table, you pushed it towards him with a smile.
“Well, lucky for you, I already made you one.” you laughed, seeing his surprised reaction at the lantern in his hands. “No need to thank me.” you added.
“I don’t-”
You interrupted him before he could say no. “I already made it, and I don’t need two wishes. And like I said, I’ll even write it for you if you want.” Seeing his hesitation, you offered him a deal. “I’ll tell you mine, if you tell me yours.”
Xiao, knowing you weren’t going to give up until he relented, nodded reluctantly.
You clapped your hands happily at his defeat.
“My wish is to become someone who can protect the great and mighty Xiao!” you exclaimed, showing him your lantern.
To become someone who can protect the great and mighty Xiao.
- (Y/N)
The adeptus gave you a puzzled look after confirming for himself that you had indeed written the same wish verbatim, onto your lantern.
“Well, you protect Liyue, right? But who protects you?” you asked the yaksha. And you predicted that he would say something along the lines of “not needing the protection of a mere human” or what not, so you chimed in again. “Of course, I’m not as powerful as you are. So my protection will mostly be in the form of Almond Tofus and my company. And I'll always be here for you, whenever you need me.”
“I have no need of you, nor your company.”
You tried not to smile at the fact he didn’t mention not needing Almond Tofus.
“I’m lonely. You’re lonely. So we can be lonely together, then.” Shrugging, you changed the subject before he could retort back. “So, what’s your wish then?”
At the conversation returning back to the topic of his wish, he let out another sigh.
“Hand me the brush, I’ll write it.”
As he silently wrote down his own wish on his lantern, you wondered whether he insisted on writing it himself because he was embarrassed to say his wish out loud. Or was it because he didn’t like your handwriting? You figured it would most likely be the latter. But upon noticing the slight blush dusted onto his cheeks, you couldn't help but second-guess yourself.
And after a short moment later, he handed the writing utensil and lantern back to you.
“You sure you don’t want to come with me to release the lanterns?” you asked him, hopeful that maybe this year would be the year to finally convince the recluse man of joining the festivities. “We can release it on the mountain, instead of in the city if you would feel more comfortable?”
“I would feel more comfortable staying here.” he replied firmly. His tone didn’t give away any leeway of changing his mind, so you decided that the lanterns would have to do this year. But hey, at least he participated.
After gathering your things, you made your way down the steps of the inn, and into the direction of the road leading back to the city. You waved a goodbye up to Xiao, who just watched your retreating figure. It was only when you stopped walking to frantically wave at him, that he gave a half-hearted wave back. He probably breathed a sigh of relief at your absence, once you left his view. But still, the half-hearted action brought a smile to your lips, and it remained with you the rest of the way home.
Once the Lantern Rite festival ended, the Xiao lanterns disappeared as quickly as they had appeared.
You had been tempted to keep Xiao's lantern after the festival, knowing it was the first, but you hoped not the last, lantern Xiao had written a wish on. But the lanterns were meant to be released, not kept. And it wasn't hard to keep the wishes written on yours and Xiao's lanterns to your memory.
In the following days after the Lantern Rite festival, you spent your time contemplating how to go about making your lantern wish become a reality. But as you wracked your brain, continuously pondering over the problem, you were left with one resounding question.
What really could you do for Xiao?
You didn’t have much to offer the yaksha. You were neither rich nor someone with immense power that could rival his. Your company, which you weren’t even sure whether he enjoyed or not, was the only thing you had going for you. Well, that and making him Almond Tofus.
So then, nothing, it seemed.
You sure talked big for someone who had nothing to back it up with.
That was until one day, when you came across a certain object in a treasure chest in your adventures.
“It’d be best if you destroy that, and forget you ever saw it, (Y/N).” the archon responded to your question.
“Why? Isn’t it just another hourglass artifact?”
You figured asking Zhongli about the item would be your best bet. With how old he truly was, the Geo Archon had an immense knowledge of everything, and if anyone knew what the artifact was, it would have to be him.
“That’s one of the artifacts that was lost during the Archon War. It’s far more powerful than any used these days.” The funeral parlor owner took another sip of his tea, before continuing. “It’s infused with the raw power of a god, so it has special abilities.”
“Like?”
The man should've known that you weren’t going to follow his advice from the start. He let out a defeated sigh, before elaborating further. “There were rumors that the god who created that specific artifact had received the Sands of Eon from Time itself.”
“Time is a person- I mean a living being?!”
“Again, just rumors.” he noted. “And supposedly, by infusing the artifact with his own power, it could bend the laws of time.”
Your eyes grew wide at the new information. “So you’re saying this artifact could, in theory, turn back time.”
“In theory, yes.”
How could such a powerful artifact have washed up shore and land into your hands?
You decided to ask him one last question, already getting a slight headache at the information just revealed.
“What happened to the god?”
“It was said that the first and only time he used the piece was after watching his people massacred during the Archon War. He used it to save his people; warning them of the future events beforehand, buying them enough time to flee. Consequently, the price he paid for saving all his people was was at the cost of his own life.”
He left you with some parting final words as you left the funeral parlor, to sort out your thoughts.
“There's always a price for changing the past, (Y/N).”
Your first thought had been to give the artifact to Xiao, allowing him to go back in time to when he made a contract with the evil god, Kubira, who used him as a bloodhound. But remembering the fate of the original owner of the artifact prevented you from doing so.
It was then you were reminded of your lantern wish.
To become someone who can protect the great and mighty Xiao.
This was the answer to your wish.
You could use it yourself, and stop Xiao from forming the contract with whatever means necessary. You made a promise to protect him and by doing this you would be able to. There would be no pain or suffering for him to endure if you were successful. And once you realized that this was the the only way to truly protect your friend, you knew there was no turning back.
You gave yourself a month to prepare. Reading up on everything there was to the Archon War to prevent a change into the outcome, with your sudden appearance in the past. It was also meant a month of pestering Zhongli; asking about anything that wasn't recorded or lost in Liyue's history. You researched everything you could about the evil god, Kubira, as well, in order to prevent the infamous past contract that sealed Xiao's fate.
And it was, perhaps, the first time you were ever thankful to have grown up alone. No close ties with anyone, no family to miss once you left. Sure you had friends, but they could continue to live on without you.
The only one person you realized that you would truly miss and regret leaving behind, was the same person you were going back into the past for. You wondered if he would be okay once you left. You were the only one who pushed through his constant rejection and intimidating demeanor to truly get to know him and to be able to call him a friend.
But if you were successful in changing the past, would he even be able remember you?
The night before your departure, you visited Xiao at the Wangshu Inn, with a bowl of his favorite dish.
The adeptus who didn’t know a word about your plan, paused at the forlorn look you had as you watched him eat his food. It was already strange to him that you were just watching him, instead of asking him how his day was or telling him who you had met on your way over like always. And the forced way you nonchalantly brushed off your watering eyes as seasonal allergies confused him even more. Something was off about the way you were acting. And the question you proceeded to ask him was the icing on the cake.
“Hey, Xiao. If I went missing for some time, would you miss me?”
If you had asked this in the first year you met him, he would’ve probably responded with a relieved no. But currently, he remained silent at your question.
Had your efforts to befriend him pay off? Did you actually manage to squeeze into his heart, and make yourself a little home?
“…I would miss your Almond Tofus.” he replied after a long minute, paired with a straight face.
Well, it was better than a no.
During the early stages of your "friendship" with Xiao, the words, "get lost" were thrown in your direction every time you had come to visit. So to you, his current answer was certainly an improvement.
“Is it really that hard to say, “Yes, (Y/N). I would miss you so much. Don’t ever leave me” ?” you drawled, trying not to laugh when he briefly choked on his food at your choice of words.
Gulping down his water, he cleared his throat loudly. “Ehem. F-fine, I guess I would notice your absence.”
Sure, it wasn’t the confession you were hoping for, but you would take it.
You gave him a small smile, turning your attention to the view from the top floor balcony.
Taking in a deep breath, you gathered up the courage to speak your next words.
“Hey, Xiao.”
You looked at him with another smile, this one not quite reaching your eyes. You took a silent moment to memorize his face, down to every detail. When you reached his eyes, you tried to keep yourself from getting lost in the amber pools. But with one look at them, you failed miserably, falling straight into their depths. And with your undivided attention given to his eyes, you failed to notice the slight reddening of his cheeks.
“Thank you for protecting Liyue. Thank you for being my friend. Thank you for being my first love. And most of all, thank you for always being there for me.”
You stood up quietly, holding onto the same bittersweet smile on your face as you neared him. And before he was given the chance to register your words, you quickly left a soft kiss on his cheek; disappearing down the stairs without another glance back.
Regaining his conscious a moment later, he was about to chase after you, knowing you couldn’t have gone far. But a folded letter on the table in front of him distracted him momentarily, giving you enough time to escape.
Xiao,
I thought long and hard about what I could do for you after saying those big words about protecting you. And I think this is the best way to do that.
I know you won’t remember any of this once I come back, if I come back. You probably won’t even remember me. But that’s okay. I’ll be fine, being the only one who remembers, if it means you’ll have a better future. So don’t let my efforts go to waste! Eat something other than Almond Tofu and snow. Make and surround yourself with friends. I hope I showed you that humans can be worthwhile friends too. And don’t ever think that you deserve solitude, because you deserve so much more than that.
Thank you again for everything. I never felt alone when i was with you. I’m still not even sure if you consider us friends, but your friendship meant the world to me. So I’m going to have to insist that we are friends.
I don’t have any regrets leaving. I lived and I loved thanks to you. So now it’s your turn.
I hope you can live your new life without any regrets or burdens weighing you down.
Love Always,
(Y/N).
Part 2 here!
