I'm starting completely fresh in the Tumblr RPC. I'm from Discord and Amino to try looking for people willing to be CCs/Canon Character muses against my OCs. How exactly do I go about looking for that? How does searching for RP work here? I genuinely just have so many questions bc everything is really confusing to me. 🙇‍♀️

Hmmmm...I feel your frustration, as a someone that has been on this site since 2011, and in the Tumblr RPC since 2012, I can attest it's way harder now to get into rp than it did even 4 years ago. I'm going to answer this for anyone, not just your case, because I feel OC and Canon players of all kinds are trapped in this same problem!!!

The 2 major causes to difficulty connecting in the RPC:

People here have gotten way more prickly and cold and have 100 red flags and objections in their rules that make seeking out a partnership flimsy at best. (Dangerous to your mental health at worst.) If you see someone like this, don't bother trying to win them over. Chances are they are going to whine about everything you ask of them, think anything you do is offensive, or it's a huge "honor" to be even considered a mutual. RUN away from these types, and don't waste your time. They don't want partners, they want an audience to their personal drama, and will probably be an asshole to you OOC, and make you look like the bad guy to their sycophants. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

People here have also gotten way more FLAKEY and don't reach out and engage the way they used to. They post memes all day and beg for starters, but don't answer them once you have managed to snag them. They make 100 muses but never rp any of them except the one you don't want. Attention spans on here have gotten shorter than a fly's.

It seems daunting, but fortunately, the old ways to find partners still work....

Use the search function, for "RP STARTERS" and the like, BUT!! Don't reply to the starter until you've looked at the OP's blog. Read their rules. They may only post starters for mutuals, or selective fandom affliates. If you find you like that blogger, and decide to follow, it's a way in.

Post a "call out" for your blog. Make a Promo of some kind, but tag it: "RP BLOG" ; "OC RP" ; "RPC PROMO" ; "(genre name) RP," If your OC is affiliated to any fandoms, or could fit into desired fandoms, tag as such IE: "LOTR RP". Even if your OC is not fandom affiliated, you should tag it into popular fandoms you know would work with your muse. It at least gets views. And if someone happens to like or reblog your promo post, it gives you a window into more blogs.

Another "sneaky" but very effective way is to go into the notes of memes and starters and look at the likes/reblogs. Hit up those icons/urls, do some research on partners that may be a future choice. Again, read their rules, scroll through their posts, see if you think it's a good match for your character AND your writing style. For me, this is the best way to look for new blogs to interact with. It's living proof that there are STILL A LOT OF WRITERS LOOKING FOR INTERACTION!

Don't be afraid to tag yourself into things!!!! Remember, the first 5 tags get the most hits. Just don't spam tags that have nothing to do with your blog, as a courtesy.

(serial killers/kill for hires lover) Muse A is a killer, and also a wonderful partner. muse B is their long term partner, blissfully unaware of their lovers real profession until muse B catches muse A in a very compromising position. lots of angst, hurt/comfort, dark themes

(haunted) our muses are urban explorers, they find themselves inside an old abandoned theme park from decades ago, decaying from the inside out. while walking around, they discover that they haven't seen the way out, or any way out, even once. things are moving that shouldn't be, and they are hearing more and more off putting noises. what happens when the spirits finally show themselves? how will our muses appease them, or fight to escape?

(​​​​​​​apocalypse) muse A and muse B are life long enemies, constantly trying to one up the other and always hating being around each other. when they are forced to work together on a work project and the apocalypse hits, they are forced to either let their pettiness win and be alone through all of this horror, or stay together and try to survive as a team. various traumatic events bond them closer and closer until they discover hidden feelings beneath layers of vines. enemies to lovers

I transitioned from group rp to indie a few years ago and--at the time--I was all alone. I had no connections, just a lonely barry blog to my name. I wrote drabbles by myself in the dark for two weeks until aya came across my blog with her hikari, and everything just clicked. aya made me feel included, reached out with ideas, plots and feedback, and showed love to barry and all of my muse(s)--and to this day, I still feel TREMENDOUSLY grateful for the helping hand when I felt so isolated. I definitely would not still be writing here without her.

since then, I've had an amazing time here. writing with so many different people, muses, and groups--it's all so good. my best experiences happen when I'm writing (or even plotting) with someone, and everything just works, flows, and fits together and I can just feel that shared excitement. that feeling that we're building a great story together. that's magical. that's why I'm still around, trying new muses, diving headlong into amazing plots/dynamics, letting my imagination run wild, and--as always--writing a lot. much love to EVERYONE who has helped keep that fire burning over the years, but especially ash and aya for giving that flame a chance in the first place. tysm. ❤️

RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS : it's been said, but--on a personal level--I wish private communication would happen more, specifically when it comes to interest levels. my time is becoming more and more limited here (sad as that is) and I have always written at a slower, longer pace. so, given how fast this place moves, I would appreciate knowing if a thread has grown stale, or if something's off.

I'm flexible. I'd like to think that I'm pretty laid-back. I want you to have fun, and you need to drop or backburner our thread because life, interest, etc. that's okay. I promise. [azure]: I think there are definitely characters that have come across my radar through media I'm interested in that seem like they would be fun to write. Ultimately, I don't end up writing them either because I don't think I'd do them the justice I want to when writing them. Some characters that come to mind are Tony Stark, The Grandmaster (En Dwi Gast), and Steve Kemp (from Fresh). The interest to write for them also usually tends to dwindle if I already write with that particular character a lot with other writers (I'm looking at my Tony Stark rper's, y'all own my heart)

[lavender]: I think if I could change something about the rpc, it would be mostly nostalgia based. I was writing in the 2010's and there seemed to be a ton of engagement back then with people sending memes and overall, just more interaction. That said, I do think there is something to be said for crafting your own experience and I know that my social engagement battery is a bit less than it was back in the 2010's. While I loved writing and planning many different plots with multiple different blogs, I think it is more sustainable for me now to develop strong writing connections with a handful of other writers and explore and appreciate threads they have with others. Who knows, maybe I might find a new blog through them and gain another writing buddy!

angst or fluff? -> Angst, I'm a shameless angst whore and live for a bit of drama in my threads.

one-liners or paras? -> Paras, I like being able to add detail and progress the story forward with dialogue and more in-depth interaction.

plotting or winging it? -> A lot of the time I will go for plotting over winging it, mostly because I like to build a story and collaborate with my writing partner.

memes or starter calls? -> I think it's safe to say that I often will post rp memes over starter calls. I find that memes are a bit more broadly reaching and often, if I have a specific idea, I usually go to the mun I want to share it with and gush over plot details to them.

single muse or multimuse? -> for aesthetics and ability to separate my writing, I personally use single muse blogs (you can check out my Brock Rumlow on @burnedbxnesrumlow) but I don't mind if my writing partner has a multi-muse blog. Personally, do whatever works best for you and your writing!

I wanted to write Arknights smut on a new account, but I’m having so much fun writing the proceeding scenes of tense and sappy confessions and relationship dynamics negotiation.

I want to take credit for the SFW portion, but I’m leery of having a self-indulgent NSFW portion forever associated with my most well-known pseudonym. People in my real life could find it.

Would even the people on-line start to think of me only as ‘that poster who wrote that one smut fic”?

First of all, thank you for this question and for being brave enough to ask it! I know how hard it can be, hehe. I'll try to answer to the best of my abilities!

I think that the first thing you should do is just write everything your heart wants. Just do it, get that stuff out of your system, even if it's something that you feel like it's being overused or you've done before, just get that wonderful stuff out of your system. Don't stop writing. Write the gays being cute, we need more of that, just go at it. People love anything and everything you give them on that regard.

I also need you to understand that NSFW stuff is always going to be what will get the most attention because, well, the internet. No matter what you do, there's going to be someone out there who will remember you for that one smut fic that you wrote years ago and they loved so much they won't stop talking about it. And there's nothing wrong with that. I also think that if you have a following who has been there just for the SFW stuff, they won't suddenly change their mind and ask you for constant NSFW day and night. You are more likely to be known for the stuff you've put out first, more than the NSFW, if that makes sense.

And hey, there's always options, you can make a fluffy story and separate the NSFW from it so people see the thing you are proudest of the most first and then whoever wants to, can read the other part. I know a lot of writers do that and it works just fine, I bet it could work for you too!

We all have that fear of people finding out. Sometimes, it just happens. Sometimes, it doesn't. The biggest advice I can give you on that regard is to keep doing things like normal. While writing can be such a wonderful experience and can really be a great conversation starter, you always gotta ask yourself- "If this person could potentially betray me, would they use this information to hurt me or simply ignore it?" That's how I personally go about it and let me tell you, most of the time people won't care you write porn on the internet or write gay people kissing, it's just not something that they immediately use to associate someone. But that's from personal experience, I also feel like the less people in real life that know, the better. And hey, there's some people out there who are literal millionaires for writing porn, so bestie, you will be fine. But hey, I don't wanna seem insensitive or anything of the sorts, maybe your current living situation isn't the best and you can't let anyone find out because of it. Privacy is your best friend here along with passwords. Invading someone's privacy like that is honestly vile and if that were to happen to you, always know that you aren't on the wrong for wanting to protect yourself.

Also keep your phone locked, lol. I had a classmate see my Tumblr blog once and immediately tried to look me up to find out about me. Not fun.

As for the pseudonym, the best thing to do is to completely make a different one that has nothing to do with the first one and you will be fine. A fresh start is always good and trying new things out could be beneficial for you too, so give it a go.

As for... The last part, I was known for writing SkaSpec Porn with a funny title because I made a bet and lost, which led me to get quite a big following for a while. And while The Menu is what I was mostly known for, people still read the rest of my works and loved them just as much or even more than the NSFW. So believe me, people will know you for more than that. Also, memes are a no if you want to go unnoticed. That's also that. And if anyone complains about you using memes in your titles or anything of the sorts, you do you boo. I've found out that people who do that are the ones who always make memes, so...

I've always been an extremely empathetic person even as a small child. I assumed I'd eventually harden as I grew older, but I'm still a complete marshmallow. The ability to empathize is a measurement of one's humanity so I consider it an important character trait.

Unfortunately, no. We lost our beloved fourteen-year-old boxer in April of last year. I know all dog owners say their pupper is the best, but Belen Blue was the most lovely pet companion I had the pleasure of knowing. She was 80lbs of pure muscle but a complete silly clown that loved to run around in circles and play chasey-chase. She was everyone's friend whether it be a dog at the dog park or a stranger she'd met on a walk. Despite her advanced age, she doted on my toddler. She was brave and smart and so loving. My husband and I are still not ready to bring a new dog into our family because the grief is still too fresh.

Coffee...I do love tea but let's be real it's not as glorious as slightly sweet and creamy coffee. Just to be clear though espresso trumps coffee. I shifted to a morning person a few years ago because my daughter likes to wake up with the sun. Introverted I need to recharge after being in social situations. Cold is preferred. I assume body temp and I rather have to bundle up than sweat. Fruit. Is someone going to say they prefer vegetables to fruits? I'm not sure what to think of someone who would. Sweet if it's between the two although salty sweet is an amazing combo.

Probably plotting and chatting with mutuals. I've difficulty keeping things going if there isn't any communication. I also love reading others' bios and world-building trying to figure out how the muses could intersect.

Honestly, no. I've written across the spectrum of tropes for the most part. I've been around for a while and have been fortunate enough to formulate and develop muses that have bubbled up.

Fluff all the way. I'm such a nerd for it, but angst is pretty amazing as well especially when it comes before the fluff. Paras, I just can't do one-liners there's not enough substance to keep me interested. Plotting because it feeds the muse. It's a tie between the memes and stater calls because I enjoy both a lot. You typically get a smidge more depth with starters, but every once and a while the perfect meme floats into the inbox. Multimuse is my preference because I like to explore different ships (kin/romantic/platonic), and build a world with an overarching plot.

INBOX CLEAN UP.

after much deliberation, i've decided to wipe my inbox clean. the decision isn't easy for me, and i have thought about it long and hard before i make this announcement. i've been overwhelmed with threads and asks for a while, and every time i opened up my inbox to do some writing, the sheer number of asks i owe people really makes it difficult for me not to put pressure on myself and it's not a good feeling. ( to no one's fault but mine, of course. ) i feel like i really need a fresh start with my inbox. that, and because i know i'm bad at writing starters. i want to be able to reblog new memes that'd encourage new interactions with other mutuals i haven't written with. so, with that said —

aside from a few asks that i can still see myself responding to ( i'm limiting myself to 10-15 max ), everything else will be wiped clean. i'll reblog more memes and inbox prompts that would allow for some new interactions after this. again, i'm sorry if i have kept you waiting on ask responses from me. but i really need to do this clean up for my own sake so that i could get myself back into writing mood again. thank you so much for your understanding and for being patient with me.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU.

PREFERRED COMMUNICATION: discord if you have it, IMs if not. I tend to answer Discord more regularly & IMs I sometimes leave the notification until I have the mental capacity to respond as it's usually about plotting, so I have to be in the right mindset!

EXPERIENCE: on tumblr, about 2 years now? In general, well over 10 years.

PREFERRED ROLEPLAY TYPE: some angst or a dab of hurt/comfort is always a soft spot for me. I don't mind fluff once in a while, but it does become dry and repetitive after a while. Realistically, what I want is plots/threads that are dynamic and have a flow; maybe it starts off hurt-comfort, and as replies go on (and we're talking 10, 20, 30 replies in, so long-standing threads) it turns to fluff. Maybe there's a dabble of smut somewhere in there. Either way, dynamic threads is what I crave.

PET PEEVES & DEALBREAKERS:

If you constantly drop threads/forget about threads/threads never go past 1 or 2 replies & we never plot, I'm less likely to interact, period. Taking your time is a very different thing; having multiple threads that are 2-3 replies that constantly get dropped are a motivation killer for me.

If you remake your blog more than once every 6-8 months, I get exhausted. For context, in 2 years I've moved blogs only 3 times. The first was to move from a side blog to a main blog (so it wasn't like I could clean up my blog and make it a main blog); the second was to move from multiple single-muse blogs to one multi-muse blog (I had a lot of content across 4 blogs, it was easier to combine it into one fresh/new blog).

PEOPLE WHO REFUSE TO TAG FOR EYESTRAIN. It aggravates me to no end when asking for a tag is a problem. I often get the impression that people don't take the request for eyestrain to be tagged seriously, not realizing that the things I ask to be tagged trigger chronic headaches when it's missed.

Not filling out my interest tracker. I'm very clear why this is a requirement. It's actually detailed & coded on my end to organize it for my own sake well beyond what's asked for in the tracker. It makes it easier for me as someone with a disability to keep track of things, & it alleviates my anxiety to have those tools at my disposal, tools that I've taken the time to create for myself to make my life easier.

PLOTS OR MEMES: both! Generally, memes are good icebreakers, but I'm of the opinion that memes and plots go hand-in-hand. Memes are a great way to trigger a starter for something you've been plotting with a writing partner; conversely, memes can also serve to open the door for plot ideas to form when you discuss with people. I operate on the basis that memes are a way to start threads, and are generally not treated as one-off interactions on my blog. If you send a meme, it's going to be answered in a way that it can serve as a starter. In this case, anyone is welcome to continue memes that I sent if they'd like. I will not be upset.

LONG REPLIES OR SHORT REPLIES: Long replies. Shorter replies are more difficult for me to write and work with in most cases. I can rip through a long reply faster than I can a short reply, because with long replies there's enough content that it gets the creative juices going, and it's a matter of just letting the flow roll. If you give me a short reply, you'll probably be waiting 2-3 times as long for a response than a long reply. (& for those of you thinking "but a long reply is more words to write"--I type around 100-120 words per minute. It's not about the word count or typing speed. It's about my ability to think of a response. Longer replies come easier from a creative standpoint for me.)

BEST TIME TO WRITE: Late at night for me, usually. I need to get more into daytime writing, but it's hard. I'm the kind of person who throws together half a reply while I'm laying in bed about to crash, lol.

ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSES: As a whole? No. There are likely reasons I'm drawn to certain characters because I relate to them or empathize with them/what they've been through, but I am not like my muses. Often, my own experience influences how I interpret the muse's experience.
