he does realize that, & his look says as much, but keanu feels the need to emphasize with words, an attempt to placate lover. he knows that rio cares for him, the same way that he cares for them - he can feel it. but they don't have the same kind of power as him, they don't have the emotional access that he does through their bond, & so he needs to remind himself to do the work to show them just how much he cares. they have nothing else to go on but his sense of sincere adoration, & he tries to bolster this with anything he can, including his words.

there's a surge of affectionate warmth that translates over their tenuous emotional bond, a connection that keanu feels with every individual person, but which is more intense with those he feels strongly for ; eunjae being one of them. despite himself, this man has found a way into his heart, & though other has never confirmed this fact, keanu suspects that other feels the same about him, or at least similarly enough for keanu to recognize it. it's in eunjae's tone, in the very words he speaks as he admits to this connection ― & keanu hadn't been expecting it.
