⚅ — FFXVI Verse — ⚅

⚀ Hanekoma was born as the illegitimate child of a member of one of the High Houses in the Year of the Realm 837. He was immediately shuffled into the waiting arms of the Undying immediately. Stripped of any semblance of family save his sharp and unrelenting cult. He was raised in the company of the royal house of the duchy, though only in the unseen shadows, watching as the order and his god stepped above him and never met eyes. At 8 years old, Clive Rosfield was born, and Hanekoma began to grow something else inside of himself than loyalty for the Undying and the Phoenix.

⚀ By age 23, Hanekoma had honed his fighting skills well, and in addition, he had begun gathering other talents as he could find them. He took lesson from anyone that was willing to tolerate him for long enough to make sure that he could easily slip into any role that was desired. Not only did this ensure that he would always be of particular value to the order, but it gave him far more freedom to move around as he saw fit (or rather, was needed by others of the order). He was stationed at Phoenix Gate when the chaos ensued, and while he rushed to the aid of his lords, he found nothing waiting for him but rubble. He, along with the others present, recovered Joshua and began the tumultuous task of investigating the attack. While he cared for Joshua, Hanekoma became particularly attached to the young boy. He could not see a Dominant of the Phoenix, but a child that was in need of care. One night of caring for him, quiet and alone, Hanekoma restated his vows to the Phoenix, but this time, he whispered them to Joshua himself.

⚀ At 35 years old, Hanekoma was forced to watch Joshua leave with one of the other acolytes, having said nothing of the way he felt to him and with only the hope that Joshua would be safe. But the longer he remained at the sides of the Undying, the more ill at ease he felt staying there. He began volunteering for any work that would take him outside of the headquarters to investigate. Unlike a great many of his brethren, Hanekoma refused to wear a hood, and he took every opportunity to meet and learn from anyone he passed in his travels during his investigations. He was determined to learn what he could of the mysterious force Joshua insisted was responsible for the Night of Flames.

⚀ In the Year of the Realm 873, at 36, Hanekoma fell victim to a game of gambling, and for a short while he became so attached to it he couldn't even save up enough money to support himself. When all seemed lost, a strict but compassionate elderly gentleman helped him get back to his feet and taught him the art of cooking fine drink and meals from most any source. Hanekoma never forgot this act of kindness, and to this day he will go out of his way to provide for those in need, in whatever way he can. He also uses his ability to cook to keep himself in good money wherever he happens to go.

⚀ Hanekoma has since been watching over Joshua as much as he could, from the shadows. He is determined to protect Joshua in any way that he can, but he works almost independently of the Undying now. His first priority is the young man that had fought so hard to survive despite it all and found place in himself to put his all into protecting the land the Rosfields had always fought so hard to keep in one piece. He will participate and cooperate with the Undying only as far as it serves his own and Joshua's means, but he no longer considers himself a real member of the cult of the phoenix. Further more, he will try to convince any Undying that he begins to gain trust with to turn away from worshiping the phoenix and instead give their loyalty to the young man himself.

⚀ Hanekoma is an artist at heart, and while he rarely has the means of participating in his hobby often, he will use whatever resources available to him to leave art and poetry in his wake in most places he visits. This can be anything from murals on walls to clay figures to pages left behind on bar counters full of poetry. He also has a mild ability to play instruments he might come across, and while he doesn't keep one on his person, when provided with one he usually can pick out a diddy or two.

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!
