This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Lagos State Domestic & Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), which stated that Chukwuma was prosecuted on a two-count charge bordering on defilement. As reported by The Cable, Chukwuma committed the offences between 2008 and 2017 at Agbeke street by Iyana-Era Bus Stop, Ijanikin, Lagos. Olufunke Adegoke, the lead prosecutor, said Chukwuma began defiling his two daughters shortly after his wife’s death. Abiola Soladoye, trial judge, ruled that the prosecution sufficiently proved the charge of sexual assault against the convict. Soladoye said the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses were corroborated as valid evidence alongside the admission of the convict during cross-examination. “The defendant’s incestuous relationship with his two daughters, following the death of his wife in 2008, is senseless,” the judge said. “The survivors informed the court that their biological father had subjected them to this abuse after their mother’s demise during childbirth. “The oldest was nine years at the time. The children were taken to their village, and even after telling their kinsmen about their father’s acts, nothing was done. “They returned to Lagos, and the second child eventually reported the incident to the school after her older sister ran away from home as she could no longer endure the assault. “The defendant admitted the act and stated that he was sorry. This is also in his statement, which was admitted and marked Exhibit A. “He is a dirty father who should be locked up for life as his conduct is disgraceful. “The defendant is found guilty as charged, and he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment on each of the two counts in the charge.” The court added that Chukwuma’s name will be added to the Lagos state’s sexual offenders register. #FathersentencedtolifeinjailfordefilinghistwoDaughters

1,108 men report domestic violence in six years – Lagos govt

The Lagos State Government through its Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency says 1,108 men have reported being domestically abused in six years. The DSVA Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, made this known on Thursday at the unveiling of ”The Hidden Crime, Violence Against Men” initiative at Ikeja. Vivour-Adeniyi said the initiative was to encourage male folks to speak up, as they also experienced different kinds of violence. She said that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in his inaugural speech on May 29, informed Lagos residents of the addition of ‘PLUS’ into the THEMES Agenda. The ‘PLUS’, the DSVA scribe said, represented Social Inclusion, Gender Equality and Youth. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the acronym, T.H.E.M.E.S, represents the six pillars of the State’s strategic development agenda. They are Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism, as well as Security and Governance”. According to the DSVA scribe, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence is one of the greatest hindrances to achieving gender equality. ”It is, therefore, for these reasons, that the agency deemed it expedient to conceptualise this project – The Hidden Crime, Violence against Men. ”We believe that this will be an opportunity to continue to break the culture of silence, which encourages SGBV to thrive. Indeed, men and boys can be victims of domestic and sexual violence. ”A detailed overview of the data recorded over the past six years, revealed that 1,108 men have reported incidents of domestic violence. “This, however, does not include male children that have experienced one form of GBV or the other,” she said. The executive secretary disclosed that the agency’s recently concluded community engagement in over 10 local government areas revealed that Lagos’ residents believed that there had been less enlightenment and spotlight on men who were SGBV victims or survivors. “That research revealed that out of the 140 sex convicts, 80.5 per cent of them said they were sexually abused at an early age, some as young as 6 years old and as such were exposed to unhealthy sexual relationships. ”Majority of them did not receive psycho-social support and as such, they began abusing others, thereby revealing the abused-abuser trend. ”It is, therefore, important that the male folk are aware of this; there is no shame in their pain. “It is also compelling to inform men of the different forms of violence and the support services that the state government has put in place to proactively address these issues. ”We also have a duty to engage men to realise that they play a most crucial role in the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence,” she said. Vivour-Adeniyi said the agency had a mission to ensure that no gender was left behind in its advocacy, preventive and response mechanisms. She said that it already had an inclusive response team in the office and would in the course of the month, engage men in all aspects of the state. The DSVA Community Engagement Officer, Tobi Ikudaisi said that in 2022, a total of 281 men came to the agency to report one form of violence or the other against them. Ikudaisi said that a lot of men had not been bold enough to speak up, as they felt they might be ridiculed by society. Rape allegation: Lagos court remands Bishop Feyi Daniels in Kirikiri prison

Bishop Oluwafeyiropo (Feyi) Daniels on Monday appeared at the Lagos Special Offences Court in Ikeja on a two-count charge of rape. Daniels pleaded not guilty and was granted bail on conditions, including a N20 million bond and two sureties with property in the state. Justice Ramon A. Oshodi ordered an accelerated hearing and remanded him at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until he fulfils bail conditions. The judge also directed the church leader to submit his international passport to the court and adjourned to 9th of May, 2023 for trial. In March, Lagos Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, ordered Daniels’ arraignment over the alleged rape of an assistant pastor and another lady. The case was investigated at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, in Ikoyi, where two victims made statements. The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Agency, DSVA, is involved in the case whose legal advice was issued in December 2022. Signed by DPP Director, Babajide Martins, the advice said after consideration of the facts, ��there exists prima facie offence of rape under Section 260 of the Criminal Law, Ch C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015” against Daniels. “Facts from the duplicate case file reveal that the suspect…had a church branch in Akungba Akoko (Ondo) where he had young people as pastors and assistant pastors. “It is also revealed that Oluwafeyiropo Daniels invites the branch pastors and assistants to his house from time to time for one reason or the other,” the DPP report said. The report added that Daniels allegedly took advantage of one of the assistant pastors whenever she visited his residence in the Ikota area of Lagos. The founder of iReign Christian Ministry in Ikota became popular after his controversial prediction about the presidential election. Daniels predicted the arrest of President-elect Bola Tinubu on the day of inauguration, adding that Peter Obi will eventually become President. Lagos state government orders coroner inquest into d€ath of IVD's wife, Bimbo Ogbonna The Lagos state government has ordered a coroner inquest into the cause of d€ath of Bimbo Ogboona, wife of auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna. Bimbo died on October 15 alledgedly died of burns sustained during an alleged domestic violence incident at their home in Lekki, Lagos. The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, gave the directive for a coroner inquest in a statement released. He mentioned that a thorough investigation would be carried out to ascertain the cause of Bimbo’s death. The commissioner noted that as a government, the security and well-being of citizens were of utmost importance while assuring the public that everything will be done to ensure that the cause of death is known. He also said findings of the investigation would be made public in due course and appropriate sanctions meted out to anyone found culpable, the Lagos State Government said. “A coroner’s inquest has immediately been requested, in line with Section 14 and 15 of the Coroners’ Systems Law, Laws of Lagos State 2015, to determine the cause and circumstances of death. By Section 14(1)(d) of the Coroners’ System Law of the State: “A report of death shall be made to any of the agencies for the report of death or the office of the Coroner and be subject to post-mortem examination where there is reasonable cause to believe that the cause of death was: violent, unnatural or suspicious.
