So. With september approaching. many artists are getting ready for inktober, or whatever -tober art prompt list they participate in. I've participated in some form of one every year since 2015 and I thought maybe it's time for me to make my own spin on it. So I present: Mojitober!

Every day for the month of october, I (and anybody else who wants to participate!) will make one emoji per day to post every day up until the end of october.

Each week has it's own theme related to Halloween and other spooky things!

To confirm you're participating reply to this saying "I'm in", but please be as sure as possible bc no one should stay giftless

Both drawings and writings are valid gifts!

For it to be fair tho, an art piece should at least be lined + flat colored and writings should have a minimum of 5k words aprox (it's completely fine to go over this, but not required)

A server will be made for the event with a channel where y'all can write a little description of what you like so the person that got you can refer to that to get ideas (including your aus and/or fnaf characters if you have 'em, aus you like, your favorite DCA character, even tropes or dynamics, etc.)

Your friend commenting is such bullying . Nice . I am a lecturer of chemistry so think I’m in the know. Can you give me evidence of climate change ? As we are suppose to be in an ice age and aren’t . Clearly you’ve been watching Disney’s ice age , which is based on real events with a made up story. I love that film. I’m sure you do to being that you are doing geography. How do you feel about ice age ?

As I have said to previous anon’s, I don’t control what my followers do. Also saying that ‘David would be upset’ really isn’t bullying, because David Attemborough would be upset at the situation... He’s done his best to educate people on the current situation and the effects of climate change on the world and sadly some people are still ignorant to the risks and how we could ruin our planet. I’m gonna put some facts etc under the cut so read at your own risk:

There is proof of climate change being an issue throughout geological history, all from different causes but the same problem

A mass amount of CO2 in the atmosphere

Take the Permian-Triassic mass extinction event (the biggest mass extinction in history) it was caused by mass anoxia in the ocean

This was due to CO2 being released from the Siberian Traps volcanic system and the lighting of coal deposits. It released gigatonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere

Theres a lot of science behind it but basically it shifted the balance of heavy and light carbon in the atmosphere and oceans causing almost all terrestrial and marine life to die out...

This is one of the effects of climate change

And yes it doesn’t happen overnight (only in certain cases) but this is what can happen if we don’t act fast...

We have already lost mass amounts of habitats across the globe because of climate change

And yes climate fluctuations are completely normal... but by 0.1-0.5 degrees, not 2,3,4,5,6+ degrees thats dangerous....

As i said previously the permian-triassic mass extinction caused a climate shift of 6 degrees and it sent the earth into environmental turmoil....

But also climate change doesn’t just refer to the warming of the earth (its why i hate the term global warming) but just the shift in climate generally

So while one part of the earth is heating (ice caps are melting and places like kilimanjaro are no longer covered in snow when they should be) another part of the earth is cooling...

Look at the melting of ice caps/icebergs in Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego

It also disrupts weather systems and the monsoon, that certain countries rely on to survive...

Worse storms etc

Also, i just want to say that i really respect the hard work you must have put in to become a chemistry lecturer, however saying this doesn’t make you all knowing in such a broad subject as climate change

And especially doesn’t mean you can disregard other peoples hard work within sub-divisions of research, especially when they can specialise in certain areas such as palaeoclimate and climate in general

Also yes i do love ice age, but i am smart enough to be able to tell fiction from the real life... and i’m a geologist not geographer they are 2 pretty different fields...

Also we are meant to be in a little ice age (or more like a fluctuation to cooler temperatures, ice age is quite an extreme term, more like the LIA), however human activity and the amount of CO2 being put in the atmosphere is counteracting the cooling and therefore we could be in a new geological time period all which i said here!

There are also plenty of facts on this post as well as plenty of ignorant people...

I recommend watching some David Attenborough documentaries (there are also some really interesting docuseries on disney plus that are really informative as well, one strange rock is one of them)

And yes this is happening fairly slowly for now and might not affect you, but it definitely will effect your children and grand-children... and if we are not careful it will come sooner than you think

We are at the start of a mass extinction and barely anyone seems to care...

2019 was a massive whirlwind of a year for me, involving, among other things, finishing a second postgraduate degree, being shoved out into the world to find a job in my field, spending the last free summer of my life alternating between studying about 8-10 hours a day for a hellish licensing exam and wanting to completely lose it over the aforementioned studying for 8-10 hours a day, somehow managing to actually GET a fantastic job in my field, passing said hellish licensing exam, and more.  In light of all that, it also involved writing way more fic than it probably should have, especially over the summer, but!  That just means more to choose from.  So, here we go!

1.  two better hemispheres (Lord Peter Wimsey - Dorothy L. Sayers).

I started reading the Wimsey books on the recommendation of @oldshrewsburyian and became instantly enamored with DLS and Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane.  These two are a joy to read and a pleasure to write, even as I find that they are both far smarter than I myself am.  I wrote the above as a post-script to Gaudy Night after I stayed up all night finishing it, and I like to think it is not too bad in the grand scheme of things. 

2. (baby) don’t make me spell it out (Red, White & Royal Blue).

If you look to your left, folks, you will see a prime example of “if you give me lovely canon queer ships, I will probably go absolutely feral and fall in love” aka “I read RW&RB, immediately re-read it, and then wrote 6 fics in the span of about 2 weeks in the middle of exam prep because Reasons.”  This was the first one of the six, because @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels wanted a FirstPrince proposal fic and I am soft and love these boys a whole lot. 

3. we couldn’t bring the columns down (Timeless)

This one is funny because it is technically backstory fic for fic, specifically Asher/Maria backstory for @qqueenofhades‘ impeccable All Souls AU.  It also has the distinction of falling into the category of “I really did not need to be writing several thousand words of fic two weeks before the most important exam of my life, but they would not shut up and I went a little feral.” This is definitely one that only 3 people and a cat bothered to read, but I don’t mind that so much since originally I wasn’t planning on posting it anyway.  That said, I’m very pleased with it and think it’s great.

4.  the lost myth of true love (Timeless)

Oh, look, another one for 5 people and a cat.  I wanted to write a canon-verse Asher/Maria backstory fic because while I stand by my earlier interpretations of their relationship I was also tired of that and wanted something soft and lovely and feelsy for them.  Plus I wanted to do more of a Maria character study, so, two birds, etc.  But!  Backstory!  Romance!  Healing from tragedy!  I love this one.

5. whispers like poetry (Timeless)

I would be remiss if I didn’t include this one.  Technically, it was started on Christmas of 2018, but we did write most of it in 2019 so shhh, it counts.  What is there to say about this, really?  I had a blast writing it, all the Lucy/Flynn feelings, all the angst, and yes, the smut as well.  And it was a really wonderful experience getting to write with my favorite partner in crime @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels.  I still laugh every time I look at the main fic tag (“There’s a lot of sex in here considering nobody is talking about feelings”) and would also propose an additional clarifying statement of “There are a lot of feelings here, if only SOME PEOPLE would be brave enough to talk about them.”

When the Water Begins to Recede Ch. 2 - A Loss for Words

AN: Well would you look at me actually writing things! I’m very pleased to share this with you as it was also a struggle to write from Kaz’s pov. It’s not too terribly angsty and I know you’re probably frustrated I didn’t tell you what happened to Inej’s crew but you’ll find out in the next chapter and It's gonna be a long one. But please enjoy this, and I really want to know what you think, comments and rbs are most appreciated!

Desc: Three weeks before tragedy we see Kaz’s feelings as Inej prepares to depart from Ketterdam, and she and Kaz share an awkward goodbye.

The weather was just beginning to shift from Autumn to Winter when Inej left. Ketterdam’s typical windy wet weather grew colder. Kaz’s leg pained severely, the dull throbbing turned to a sharp stabbing, but he went to Berth twenty-two to watch The Wraith set sail despite it. Even through her excitement and anxiety Inej seemed to register the stiffness and difficulty of his movements, but she was grateful he came.

The air was chilled to the point of snow, and she watched the flakes fall with dazzled eyes as she and her crew carried supplies onto the little ship. She hadn’t been accustomed to snow before coming to the city, and despite the inconveniences it caused during its rare appearances she’d always commented on its beauty.

Kaz felt out of his depth standing there on the docks. He had no clue what to do with himself, and he felt like a fool, idling as he watched them load the ship. A part of him felt frustrated to see her leave, but this was also his own doing. He reminded himself he’d bought her that ship, he wanted her to leave for her own wellbeing. He was fairly certain he regretted that, even if he knew she was coming back the idea of her simply slipping away from him forever seemed excruciatingly possible. He’d made numerous attempts during the previous months to convince himself that would be for the better, and it just well might be for her. But he’d spent so long with her, put so much into this whole ordeal. It’d hurt to much for her not to return.

They’d spent most of the fall preparing just for this day. He’d put out every feeler, sent money to all the right people and put his spies in the proper places. It wasn’t much but he needed to set the groundwork, they’d know nothing about where to find slavers and they couldn’t start by prodding at any of the better-known brothels or they’d risk having their cover blown. It’d been so many late nights huddled over maps and various paperwork. They’d had to find a cover for her ship, and eventually they’d arranged with Wylan so she could set sail under the guise of private business for Mr. Van eck.

All the work had been exhausting and the concern of weather had tugged at Kaz’s thoughts, especially now. The whole crew had donned thick wool coats and hats to protect themselves from the icy air. Inej had never been fond of fowl weather, but she didn’t seem to mind the cold at all now. The only thing he could see was how hopeful she was. And she had a right to be.

Inej has always been so much better than him. He couldn’t imagine how she saw herself, but to him she was incredible, and he envied it. She’d been damaged so much more than he, but she stuck to her faith, always did her best to forgive, and to forget.  She deserved everything and Kaz wasn’t sure he had anything to give. He knew he could never be like her. He often found her belief in him was frightening. After all she was so good, how could her ever be enough for her? But she was patient, she was willing. If he was only willing to try for her it might just be enough, and he’d already taken the first steps.

It was so simple and so complex at all once. He’d set her free, paid off her indenture, faced his own fears when he’d touched her skin in that hotel bathroom. He’d bought her the ship and helped her plan a future. He’d held her hand, so easy and yet so difficult. He’d managed to do it several times since, in the quiet, still moments he managed to stay above the floodwaters, and let her speak softly to him to dull the murmur of Jordie’s ghost in his head. Of course, it was never gone, but he was slowly learning to counter his fear.

               Kaz watched patiently as Inej and her crew finished the last of their preparations, and she strode down the gangplank, and towards him in a giddy fashion. When she stopped, hardly a foot between them she was grinning, pride and joy shining in her expression as visible as a lantern in a darkened room. He gazed at her, feeling the barest glimmer of a smile twist the corner of his mouth.

               A moment ago there had been a thousand things he needed to say to her, but he realized he was suddenly at a loss for words. This was a problem he rarely encountered, and he found himself reeling internally for a moment as Inej looked expectantly upon him. He finally parted his lips to say something, but once again he found no words. Only a soft huff of laughter managed to escape as he caught sight of a snow flake that had made its way beneath her cap to land in her hair. He had the distinct urge to brush it away, but it faded before he could get the chance.

               Then he decided to try something a bit different. With a thick wool coat on touching her seemed much less daunting, while he still wasn’t in a mind to remove his gloves due to the chill. So cautiously he reached out and wrapped his arms around her. She did the same, they both did so lightly at first but as his initial panic reduced Kaz pulled her closer until she was pressed against him. It was a wonderful feeling to find himself remarkably okay as she buried her face in the dense fabric of his coat. They remained like that for a few moments but the crew began to call.

               He felt a bit hollow then, as she pulled away, remembering she was in fact leaving. She looked up at him. Her cheeks had been red from the cold, but he could have sworn they’d gone a little darker. He wanted to badly to say something, but he still couldn’t think of—there it was again. He caught the glint of white in her dark hair. Before he could properly consider the thought the words were tumbling from his lips.

               “You have snow in your hair,” he muttered. It was as if he was considering a question rather than stating a fact.

               She took his gloved hands in her own and squeezed them gently, her grin spreading a little wider, more in a mocking sense than an appreciative one but it could have been both.

               She leaned a little closer and whispered, “you do too.” She stepped back, laughing softy as she turned on her heel and bounded toward the ship.

               The warmth and softness of her laughter buzzed in his chest for a few glorious moments, but as soon as it faded, he was empty and cold, already missing her. He watched The Wraith head out to sea, wanting nothing more than for it to return.
