Note
Her already frozen cold body froze immediately when she felt Albert's hand tuck the strand of hair behind her ear. Keep it together. As long as Albert wasn't as awful as Jack...Besides, she thought, This power was supposed to go to Cindy. If Dr. Caine is interested in figuring out what the hell is going on with me, that's all I care about. He isn't gonna try and steal my soul unlike some people. Shmidt. Oddfellow.
Resurrection looked passed Albert's sympathies, almost disassociating when he spoke of her not feeling any pain. The poor thing had been desensitized to some things and highly sensitized to others. Manipulated and lied to she had been, and if Albert was lying she wouldn't be shocked. Either way, the young Browning knew it would come at a cost.
"Whatever it takes," she murmured before clearing her throat, "I've...written down all that I can about what happens to me, details of every death I've had and what physical toll it's had, if it helps. Also I've been coming up with ideas of how and why it latched onto me when it did."
A bound journal she presented to the Caretaker. If he flipped through the pages, each one held a page of recountment for the girl, gruesome details of each and every one of her previous deaths. The first one being drowning, followed by strangulation, decapitation, blood loss from being stabbed, multiple insane deaths via Jack Shmidt's circus, chopping off limbs and putting them back together like Frankenstein's monster...and the list went on. The most recent death involved being eaten alive and blood drained by seven vampires who hounded her, across from her friend-to-be-boyfriend Charlie, while they screamed amongst a vision of a 60's music fest. Most of her deaths dealt with others trying to kill her for her power, of this raw immortality. The thing was, Kelsey expressed the term raw power more, the further she had dealt with this.
"Honestly from what I can personally conclude, when the ritual was first performed, it came out as raw energy. It had no place to go, and it didn't go to Cindy like intended, it just...went somewhere else. It stuck around for decades until it could find a suitable host. Apparently choosing me as a host while being drowned by an unknown figure was good enough for it, I will never understand why. But with that power inside of a human body, it isn't regulated, it isn't meant for a human vessel, but chooses to stay."
As she spoke of this her eyes unintentionally glowed violet for a moment, "It's too powerful, so from what I've experienced, goes absolutely haywire when under pressure or under negative emotions. Sure the resurrection process works, but it has drawbacks, it's not a fully ready product to hit shelves, this is a prototype. Cindy had gotten a power just like this, but it was complete, it never causes her problems. But for me, it works, but malfunctions and glitches."
The heralds were a subject Kelsey never fully got the full scope of. Chaos hated her guts in glee, naturally. Legend actually seemed to like her enough. Death apparently was intrigued. Sacrifice had initially despised but grew to grow fond of her just enough to want to protect her, just like the camera man he had as a host. And Vengeance? Kelsey didn't dare know. She was honestly scared to know; that was her father's designated herald. The notion that the herald that was constantly sharing a body with her father, with Julian who loved his daughter, it was...a lingering anxiety. She was frightened first meeting Sacrifice; imagine coming face to face with Vengeance that looked into her soul through her father's eyes. That was terrifying enough.
Death would never get her, not completely.
"Everyone's after me it seems," the girl replied flatly, knowing the obvious truth, "No matter how unorthodox this power is, it gave me a second chance at life. I just wish those immortal hungry monsters would just leave me alone. All I want is to be with my undead father, my ghostly mother, and my partner. Nothing else. I-I get that it isn't going to be normalcy, I've accepted that ever since I first died, but for once I want to feel like I'm not being hunted for sport. And if I can find out and keep hidden the key that keeps me from dying, from this power going away and fading, before the monsters who want me dead? That's what I need, Dr. Caine."
"Oh, dear," he cooed and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. He was fighting hard to keep his excitement contained-- the prospects of dissecting her made him salivate. And so an exaggerated smile that didn't quite meet his eyes spread across his lips. "I'm certain I can find a way to make the process less painful. Perhaps even painless. I'd hate for this to cause you any duress. Finding the answers about yourself shouldn't cost you that."
His thoughts were already racing. Where should he start? What were the extremes he should go to? Could go to? He'd have to plan this out very carefully-- but at the same time, mistakes could very well answer and create even more inquiries into her disturbing immortality.
"Yes. Yes, it's very interested," he was exaggerating but only slightly. He had to as Death wasn't an emotive one. "You've escaped it's grasp. Why wouldn't it be? All roads lead to Death... except yours." He stepped away from her for only a moment to press a call button for a member of his staff.
"Are there any specific questions you're wanting answers for? Or is that part of your request for assistance? Either way, I'm happy to help you."

TCMFF  Home Edition Must Watch List
Hello friends!
I was supposed to be on a plane today to go to my first TCM Film Festival, but stuff happens and then you have a pandemic and everything gets canceled and you have to stay home! ANYWAYS, TCM decided to bring us some joy by playing programming for all of us, giving us the film festival, but at home.
I have decided to list my must watch films for this Home Edition of the festival!
Thursday, April 16th
8 pm: A Star is Born (1954, George Cukor)
Tumblr media
Starring Judy Garland, James Mason, Jack Carson, and Charles Bickford
On TCM’s website, this was listed as the inaugural film for the 2010 TCMFF. It’s also a film that is Judy Garland at her best. Garland lights up the screen as Esther Blodgett/Vicki Lester. This film has fantastic musical numbers, beautiful colors, and is the best starting film for this festival.
11 PM: Metropolis (1927, Fritz Lang)
Tumblr media
Starring Gustav Frohlich, Alfred Abel, Brigitte Helm, and Rudolf Klein-Rogge
If you have never seen a silent film or a German Expressionist film, watch this! Metropolis is the film that aged so well. A futuristic utopia from the lens of the 1920s is very interesting to watch and also some of the themes of this film can be translated to life today. I will say, the film can be described by some as “weird” but I wouldn’t let that stop you from watching it!
Friday, April 17th
2 PM: Eva Marie Saint Live from the TCM Classic Film Festival (2014)
Tumblr media
Eva Marie Saint is one of my favorite classic film actresses. She has class, she has poise, and she is very talented. In 2014, TCM had a sit down with the actress to talk about herself and her films. This is such a treat to see!
3 PM: North by Northwest (1959, Alfred Hitchcock)
Tumblr media
Starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason, Jessie Royce Landis, and Martin Landau
Another case of mistaken identity and suspense! Hitchcock knew what he was doing when he hired Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint to “sex” up in the screen during the 1950s. Their chemistry is electric. The airplane scene is such an intense watch. And James Mason seems to be good at playing a suave bad guy.
5:45 PM: Some Like It Hot (1959, Billy Wilder)
Tumblr media
Starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe, Joe E. Brown, George Raft, and Pat O’Brien
Men witnessing a crime and then parading as women so they don’t get murdered! What a farce! Let’s be real, the best chemistry in the film is between Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. They play off each other so well. I will say, I do believe Marilyn Monroe was at her best in this film! Need a laugh, watch this!
1:30 AM: Grey Gardens (1975, Albert Maysles, David Maysles, Ellen Hovde, and Muffy Meyer)
Tumblr media
Starring Edith “Big Edie” Ewing Bouvier Beale and Edith “Little Edie” Bouvier Beale
This documentary is fascinating. It is fun but at times absolutely heartbreaking. Big Edie and Little Edie were definitely a fine pair. It is interesting watching the aunt and cousin of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, because they aren’t living in luxury, which would be expected due to their relation. Big and Little Edie are characters that you have to see to believe. The irony is, they are real people and not acting roles.
5 AM: Kim Novak: Live from the TCM Film Festival (2013)
Tumblr media
Kim Novak is so much more than her looks and this interview opened my eyes to how amazing she is as a person as well as an actress.
Saturday, April 18th (AKA MY BIRTHDAY)
6 AM: The Man with The Golden Arm (1955, Otto Preminger)
Tumblr media
Starring Frank Sinatra, Eleanor Parker, and Kim Novak
This is one of the grittiest films from the 1950s. It depicts a heroin addict during their ups and downs. I was honestly surprised this film got made at all during the Production Code Era, but am very glad it did. Sinatra is so raw in his performance and Eleanor Parker creates a complex character as his wife. Of course, Kim Novak is wonderful to watch because she is more than just beautiful, she is an actress. This film really showcases her talent.
1:15 PM: Safety Last! (1923, Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor)
Tumblr media
Starring Harold Lloyd, Mildred Davis, and Bill Strother
Zany antics a plenty! That’s the best description of this film. Harold Lloyd films are always great to watch because he wasn’t afraid to do crazy things to get a laugh. This film has the infamous clock scene too!
2:45 PM: They Live By Night (1949, Nicholas Ray)
Tumblr media
Starring Farley Granger, Cathy O’Donnell, and Howard Da Silva
If you only watch one movie on this list, THIS NEEDS TO BE THE ONE. It’s ironic that it airs on my birthday, because this is one of my favorite films. The story of doomed lovers who try their best to reform from a life of crime to survive wasn’t a new concept, but man, Farley Granger and Cathy O’Donnell make you fall in love with their characters and hope that they somehow, someway make it to their life of happiness together.
10 PM: The Magnificent Ambersons (1942, Orson Welles)
Tumblr media
Starring Joseph Cotten, Dolores Costello, Anne Baxter, Tim Holt, and Agnes Moorehead
This film is another case of a film that got cut down by the studio, and in case you were wondering, Orson Welles was pissed. I would hope and pray one day we all get to see the full version (kinda doubtful), but this film isn’t so bad. I think the all-star cast really makes it worth it!
Sunday, April 19th
6 AM: Jezebel (1938, William Wyler)
Tumblr media
Starring Bette Davis, Henry Fonda, and George Brent
I am not gonna lie, my first viewing of this film enraged me. Henry Fonda’s character made me so mad because he was a jerk. But I have decided I need to rewatch this film and see if my attitudes have changed. This film did so many great things for Bette Davis and Henry Fonda, so we should all give it another (or first) go around. Also this was the film Jane Fonda was born during! Just a fun fact.
3:30 PM: Auntie Mame (1958, Morton DaCosta)
Tumblr media
Starring Rosalind Russell, Forrest Tucker, Coral Browne, Jan Handzlik, and Roger Smith
I want to be Auntie Mame. She is so much fun and so unique and I love it. The costumes are so grand in this film and Rosalind Russell really does a great job of bringing Mame to life. This film is so fun!!!
6 PM: Singin’ in the Rain (1952, Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly)
Tumblr media
Starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O’Connor, and Jean Hagen
This is in my top 5 musicals. This musical always makes me smile and it is one of the few musicals where I know most of the words to the songs. The trio of Kelly, Reynolds, and O’Connor is something magical. Cosmo Brown is also one of my favorite characters in any film (and one of my cat’s namesakes). The film history alone with this film makes it worth watching! JUST WATCH THIS MUSICAL, OKAY?
9:45 PM: The Hustler (1961, Robert Rossen)
Tumblr media
Starring Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason, Piper Laurie, and George C. Scott
Paul Newman is so cool in general, so he was born for this role. I never knew a movie about pool would have my interest, but here we are. The tension between Newman and Jackie Gleason is so well played and the way the film is shot, you feel like you are in the room with them. Also Piper Laurie does a great performance as the conflicted girlfriend of Newman’s ambitious pool shark.
12:15 AM: Baby Face (1933, Alfred E. Green)
Tumblr media
Starring Barbara Stanwyck, George Brent, and Donald Cook
THIS IS PRECODE HEAVEN! You have a woman who uses sex to get ahead in life and men become entranced, and usually destroyed, by her. Barbara Stanwyck plays her character so well that you have a love-hate relationship with her. She can be cruel, but you understand why she is doing what she is doing.

For the week of 10 June 2019
Quick Bits:
Age of Conan: Bêlit #4 sets up a rivalry with a high priest from Stygia in this penultimate issue. Tini Howard, Kate Niemczyk, Scott Hanna, Jason Keith, and Travis Lanham guide us through more of Bêlit’s family history and hints of madness.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Age of X-Man: Marvelous X-Men #5 is the first of these minis to reach their end, but it’s far from a conclusion. While the team and Psylocke find out the nature of reality as everything starts unravelling, much still remains hanging, and the conclusion is set for Age of X-Man: Omega. Great art from Marco Failla and Matt Milla.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Amber Blake #4 concludes what has been an entertaining thriller from Jade Lagardère, Butch Guice, Mike Perkins, Dan Brown, and Robbie Robbins. Some nice twists and surprises as this story ends.
| Published by IDW
Tumblr media
Archie #705 is part one of “Archie & Sabrina”. I quite like the change to the trade dress to reflect that, giving the appearance of a limited series for the arc, while maintaining the ongoing numbering. Nice Spencer, Sandy Jarrell, Matt Herms, and Jack Morelli do a great job moving through Cheryl’s “Bachelor” plans to hints of things to come, along with impending conflict between Betty and Veronica.
| Published by Archie Comics
Tumblr media
Batman & The Outsiders #2 spotlights the battle between Ishmael and the team as he goes for Sofia. Great art from Dexter Soy and Veronica Gandini. The little bits of occult belief and practice Bryan Hill gives to Ishmael are interesting.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Bronze Age Boogie #3 is another fun issue, pitting Li against Lynda for the Martians’ amusement. The pieces are all coming together nicely. Also, the “Major Ursa” back-up is just about the best thing ever.
| Published by Ahoy
Tumblr media
By Night #12 is a bit of a weird one for the conclusion to this series, focusing almost solely on our side of the rift and what happens down the line for everyone. Still, this has been an entertaining series from John Allison, Christine Larsen, Sarah Stern, and Jim Campbell.
| Published by Boom Entertainment / BOOM! Box
Tumblr media
Calamity Kate #4 brings this series from Magdalene Visaggio, Corin Howell, Valentina Pinto, and Zakk Saam to a close. It’s still a bit of a head-scratcher, wondering how much is real and how much is a manifestation of Kate’s issues with her break-up, but it’s entertaining.
| Published by Dark Horse
Tumblr media
Detective Comics #1005 concludes the Arkham Knight’s “Medieval” arc from Peter J. Tomasi, Brad Walker, Andrew Hennessy, Nathan Fairbairn, and Rob Leigh. It’s really weird seeing Anton Arcane as anyone’s lackey, but that aside this is still a decent conclusion. The art from Walker, Hennessy, and Fairbairn is incredible.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
The Empty Man #8 is the end of the series. For now at least. It’s a satisfying conclusion for this horror story from Cullen Bunn, Jesús Hervás, Niko Guardia, and Ed Dukeshire, even as it leaves hooks for the possibility of more. Very interesting bits of body horror and ideas about infection.
| Published by BOOM! Studios
Tumblr media
The Flash #72 continues “Year One” from Joshua Williamson, Howard Porter, Hi-Fi, and Steve Wands. Once again, the artwork from Porter and Hi-Fi is phenomenal. The layouts, the action, the sheer visual storytelling is incredible.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #7 is the first part of “Feast or Famine” from Tom Taylor, Ken Lashley, Nolan Woodard, and Travis Lanham. It’s May’s grand reopening of the FEAST shelter and it appears as though people are angry that it’s happening.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Gogor #2 is possibly even better than the first issue, giving more focus to the tale even as Ken Garing does more world-building. This is a very interesting fantasy story, with fascinating characters and regions, and beautiful artwork.
| Published by Image
Tumblr media
Hawkman #13 gives us a single-issue story from Robert Venditti, Will Conrad, Jeremiah Skipper, and Richard Starkings & Comicraft on the endless cycle of war. It’s a good bit of decompression following “Cataclysm” and Bryan Hitch’s run, using Carter’s endless resurrection to show the toll of battle on one planet.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Immortal Hulk #19 is another incredible issue in this amazing run, with Al Ewing, Joe Bennett, Ruy José, Belardino Brabo, Paul Mounts, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Cory Petit delivering hard on the new Abomination and Harpy. The body horror aspect of this story is ratcheted up even higher.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Infinite Dark #7 looks like it’s building for a catastrophe for the end of this arc at a magnitude even greater than losing the outer ring in the first arc, as the remaining portion of the station gets plunged into the dark here. The level of tension that Ryan Cady, Andrea Mutti, K. Michael Russell, and Troy Peteri are creating here is about to explode.
| Published by Image / Top Cow
Tumblr media
Joe Golem: Occult Detective - Conjurors #2 sees Joe brought back to life by Simon Church, against the objections of Simon’s ghost friends, and sets up the road to what looks like might be a new status quo, bringing forth an old direction. Great art from Peter Bergting and Michelle Madsen. I really quite like the murky appearance of the underwater scenes.
| Published by Dark Horse
Tumblr media
Justice League Odyssey #10 gets a new logo while the team continues their search for relics for Darkseid. Also, more intrigue as they still don’t exactly know whether they can trust one another. Dan Abnett, Daniel Sampere, Juan Albarran, FCO Plascencia, and AndWorld Design are telling an interesting story here.

The Life & Death of Toyo Harada #4 enacts Angela’s plan on the rest of the team with explosive results. It’s interesting to see everything burnt to ash along the way. The flashbacks into Harada’s life this issue are illustrated by Diego Yapur and they’re worth it on their own, but you also get the present day material beautifully rendered by CAFU.

Outer Darkness #7 begins the second arc from John Layman, Afu Chan, and Pat Brosseau. We get a little bit of Rigg’s past, more of the crew’s aggressive behaviour towards one another, and a rescue mission as an 18th century mansion tries to swallow another ship. This is the good, weird stuff.

The Punisher #12 begins Frank’s trek back to New York in the first part of “War on the Streets” from Matthew Rosenberg, Szymon Kudranski, Antonio Fabela, and Cory Petit. Great art from Kudranski and Fabela as Frank fights off a squad of Hydra goons on a remote island.

The Ride: Burning Desire #1 returns for The Ride’s 15th anniversary, with a lead story from Doug Wagner, Daniel Hillyard, Laura Martin, and Ed Dukeshire, and a back-up illustrated by Adam Hughes. Nice set-up picking up on where Vega is now fifteen years later. And more depraved cops.

Silver Surfer: Black #1 is another leg in Donny Cates’ redefinition of the Marvel Cosmic, joined here by Tradd Moore, Dave Stewart, and Clayton Cowles. This reminds me a bit of the George Perez/Tom Grindberg run from ages ago, with some incredible artwork from Moore and Stewart.

Sonata #1 is a fairly imaginative sci-fi/fantasy debut from David Hine, Brian Haberlin, Geirrod van Dyke, and Francis Takenaga. It introduces us to to races of colonizers in the Ran and the Tayans, bringing conflict with them as they try to carve out new lives on Perdita. Beautiful artwork from Haberlin and van Dyke.

Supergirl #31 is pretty much concurrent with Superman #12, though you should probably read Superman first if you’re reading both of them. There’s no need to read both, though, as it stands well enough on its own. This one presents the reunion of the House of El from Kara’s perspective and then continues on the battle against Gandelo.

Superman #12 reunites the entire House of El amidst the battle with Rogol Zaar and the fleets trying to kill Jor-El. There’s foreshadowing of more “everything you know is wrong!” about Krypton’s destruction and Superman’s origin, which may or may not rub you the wrong way, but I find it entertaining. Especially with the beautiful artwork from Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, Oclair Albert, and Alex Sinclair.

Transformers #7 is part one of “The Cracks Beneath Your Feet”, with Brian Ruckley, Angel Hernandez, Andrew Griffith, Anna Malkova, Joana Lafuente, Josh Burcham, and Tom B. Long picking up again in the present, following up on the second recent murder on Cybertron. It’s fairly morose, as you’d expect, as Bumblebee laments the loss of the new spark, Rubble.

Trust Fall #1 is a great debut from the Dead Letters team of Christopher Sebela and Chris Visions, with Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou providing his usual outstanding lettering to round out the team. It’s another crime drama, with the interesting twist of a family member with teleportation powers. Visions’ art is amazing and the hook of the family being set-up to fall right as they’re ready to move on to bigger and better waters is enticing.

V-Wars: God of Death feels more like a tease than a discrete story. The good news is that you don’t need to have read any of the previous V-Wars stories, as this fills you in on what you need to know, the bad news is that there’s no indication as to anything else coming next. Still, great art from Alex Milne and Brittany Peer.

Fire should be illegal - Ralbert
It really should js, but it’s fun so who cares
Second part, here’s the first part ewe
Race has fire powers, he deals with the consequences of his tomfooleries, but... not today
Please REBLOG if you liked it !! ( also don’t be afraid of commenting )
Tag list: ( ask if you wanna be removed bc tbh i’m kinda too tired to tag so many people when half don’t read it, save me some time and energy i already don’t have a lot ) @well-the-kids-do-too @racetrackcook @i-got-personality @imjusttheoutgoingsidekick @thatfancyclam @we-dont-sell-papes @ben-cook-can-cook @not-your-cigar @fuckinviral @jackhasdreams @racescoronas @suddenly-im-respecsable @purplelittlepup @hopeful-broadwaybaby @broadwayandbookblog @crazymecjc @maiawakening
The prompt for this one was “We’re all a little stronger than we think we are.”, hehehe
Ever since Race had found out about his abilities - and things had been sorted out between Albert and him regarding this matter -, he'd... somehow tried to control it a little better. Small beginnings, of course ; accidents that occurred because they had to. After the candles had been lit perfectly, Race had thought it wouldn't go too wrong, but he'd managed to be wrong about something yet again. Nothing unusual, but unlike many things, this one was actually dangerous.
He hadn't deemed wearing the gloves useful, at first: he'd managed to control it this time, that meant he could control it as a whole, right ? Mistake !
See, Race somehow had spotted the beginning of a painting of Albert and himself Jack had began, and while his excitement had overcome him and he'd grabbed it to go and show his boyfriend, his hands had done the work. In under a few seconds, there were ashes on the ground, and a true feeling of... yes, terror. He'd burnt one of Jack's paintings. Great, but not the worst one ; Crutchie had recently adopted a puppy despite Davey being unconditionally terrified of her. The blond, once again getting excited at the sight of the little thing, almost burnt her - the fire fortunately left his hands before they were against the pup, and he just rushed himself outside instead of saying anything about it. He'd also almost set the kitchen on fire again, but he'd fixed it before it got too bad, and they didn't have to buy anything. It'd suck, with the amount of no money they had.
All this had happened in two weeks, pretty much, and now Race was just sprawled out on his stomach on their bed, looking at the door with a lot of feelings internally, but externally he was deadpanning. At himself. Albert was watching him from time to time, himself scrolling down his phone, then eventually chuckled and shifted so he'd be close enough to gently tap his shoulder.
"C'mon, don't make this face. What's wrong now ?"
"Y' know what." The answer clearly wasn't as enthusiastic, which earned a laugh from the redhead as he ruffled his hair.
"I mean, you ain't been doin' so bad, huh ?"
"Yea, ain't been doin' too bad. Been doin' awful. Clearly, there's a difference, an' we sure gotta point it out."
This time, Albert rolled his eyes. Race wasn't looking at him, but he could tell if he did have a better reaction it'd be pushing his hand away. Things weren't going well for him, nor for anyone else really - and by his fault -, and he was supposed to... not make this face ? What a joke. If he had the ability, he'd be hidden underground, living as a hermit with no prospects. He was already doing the "no prospects" part well, though, to be fair. The redhead kept his hand in his hair, either way. Just ruffled it some more.
"C'mon, it's fine. We're just... all a bit stronger than we think we are."
"Oh, what - don't pull that shit on me !" This time Race turned around, shoving Albert before sitting up and huffing, reaching out to throw a pillow at him.
Another light laugh left his boyfriend though, and he shifted back closer to him, forcefully pulling him into a hug and bringing him back down, lying down but keeping him in his arms. Which the blond didn't really fight against, instead leaning into it and sighing quietly. These embraces were comforting, and he didn't have the strength to stay angry. He was upset with himself, but he wasn't as angry and frustrated. Or maybe he was. But it didn't manifest as much.
For a while, nothing else moved, only breathing could be heard and eventually Race calmed down, his frown having softened by then.
"I don't know, Al. I jus'... keep fuckin' it up, like it's gotten worse or somethin'. Whenever I feel a bit more of anythin' than usual, everythin's on fire."
"Maybe works with your heart rate ?" The other suggested, raising an eyebrow.
"No idea. But I burnt that thing Jack was doin' an' I feel like shit. Didn't even say sorry, kinda just... ran away, I should'a waited for him to come back but how do I explain to him that I burnt his stuff ? Couldn't have been an accident..."
If someone had to know about Race's troubles and insecurities, it could only be Albert. And of course, he did understand where his lover was coming from, how was he to explain ? If only he knew. Sigh.
"Just... Maybe just tell him."
"What ? You're crazy ! What's he gonna say if I jus' tell him my hands made fire ?"
"I don't know. Try it so you know what's he gonna say."
The look on Race's face was something. Part of him seemed like he just didn't comprehend what he was told to do, and... well, he understood, yes, but was that a normal thing you just told your friend ? Was this something that happened ? Perhaps, because if he had these powers then it wasn't so unusual, but he still couldn't tell what the reaction would be. Or if it'd be a good idea to come out about it.
"Think I should... tell everyone ?" So he was considering it either way.
"Yeah, I think so," Albert began, holding him closer and pressing a kiss on his forehead. Hopefully reassuring him a little more. "They'll understand, I mean... If I understood, they can understand too, yea ? We're all friends."
"I guess."
Race did feel vulnerable at the moment, but everything was just exhausting anyway. He'd deal with this another day, surely ; at the moment his thoughts were well enough, he didn't need more... bleh.
"Can I nap an' forget this shit ?"
"Do I look like I'd say no to a nap ?"
"... No, but I 'on' know. Oh, whatever, shut up." The blond groaned and buried his face in Albert's chest, frowning some more. "Shut up an' just hug me."
Albert laughed, shaking his head before closing his eyes. "Sure thing, shithead."
"Nah, you."
"Love you too."
That was probably the best way to end this conversation ; a good, well-deserved nap.

Davey knew, logically, that there was no way he could really be hurt at this thing. He was far enough away that he could enjoy the thrill of the event without being nervous (for himself, that is, the kid that was down there was another matter entirely.) But all the same, there was a fucking dragon there.
He would have been content to hear about it from his friends after it happened, head full of fantasies of how quiet the library probably was, how he’d be able to get at the herbology book he’d been coveting for weeks - but they’d forced him out, stressing how historic this tournament was, and how much he’d regret missing it. He didn’t tell them that actually, he’d missed a lot of historic events before, and he was really quite alright with it. For his part he’d made them stand at the back (although he was sure that if a dragon really wanted to hurt them it wouldn’t be put off by the extra fifty feet or so it had to travel.)
‘I wonder how they’re meant to pull this off?’ Albert squinted out into the field, trying to assess what the poor bastards taking part had to deal with. ‘Do they get any help?’
‘I don’t think so.’ Davey had read up a little on these tournaments. ‘I think the point is they’re meant to be able to come up with their own way.’
‘I couldn’t do it, ya know. I’d piss my pants and cry for a really long time, til everyone went home.’
‘That might work.’ Davey raised his eyebrows. ‘The dragon might feel sorry for you and let you win.’
‘Maybe I should have entered my name after all!’
They were interrupted by a short Gryffindor wielding a wad of parchment.
‘You guys want some action?’
‘I’m sorry?’ Davey couldn’t unpick this guy’s phrasing.
‘Good odds on Potter and Diggory. C’mon, let’s liven it up.’
‘It’s already pretty lively, I think.’
‘Give it up, Race,’ another Gryffindor appeared behind the kid and affectionately pulled on his friend’s woolly hat. ‘Them Weasley boys have monopolised the game.’
‘Rats.’ Race tucked his betting slips under his arm.
Davey turned back to Albert. ‘I was about to complain about being cold but I don’t want to tempt fate.’
‘I don’t think the dragon cares too much, Davey.’
‘Hey, I know you.’ Race’s friend butted in. ‘Albert, you’re in my potions, right?’
‘Right! What’s up? Davey, this here’s Jack Kelly. He’s the kid who exploded the Confusing Concotion in Snape’s face in second year, oh my god.’
Davey nodded in greeting, vaguely remembering hearing the story. Jack smiled and reached out his hand to shake Davey’s. It was at that moment that the dragon decided to show the world what a bad mood it was in, and blast a stream of fire over the entire stadium. Davey gasped, and ducked - because there was a fucking dragon there - and if he happened to accidentally squeeze this stranger’s hand, well, that was probably entirely understandable.
Because of the fucking dragon.
Jack grinned and raised his eyebrows but he didn’t pull his hand away. If a cute stranger needed him to protect them, he’d be there.
‘Sorry,’ Davey muttered. He dropped Jack’s hand and looked towards the arena, where the first competitor was coming out to somehow fight the god damn dragon. ‘Apparently dragons make me anxious.’
‘It’s no problem.’
Race and Albert, sharing a look, stepped away so Jack and Davey were standing next to each other. They all turned their attention back to the action. Cedric Diggory looked tiny among the rocks and the dragon had apparently noticed him going for the golden egg. This was terrifying. Davey jumped at every movement down there and, after only a few minutes was watching through his fingers. Cedric was shooting curses to try and distract the creature and they were almost working - not well enough for Davey to be anything less than petrified. A shocking near miss involving a badly timed leap from the champion saw him jump and physically look away.
He felt a nudge from next to him and turned to see Jack smiling and offering his hand.
‘Might help?’
He looked down at the hand and back up at Jack. Part of him wanted to defend himself, say he didn’t need protecting, that he wasn’t even scared - but a way bigger part of him, a very sensible part of him, was on edge, and grateful for the comfort.
And Jack was pretty.
He took the had and held it tight. None of the champions died, and the protective stranger turned out to be good company. Jack managed to supply witticisms to offset the tension of what they were seeing, and Davey appreciated it as much as he appreciated having a hand to squeeze when things got edgy. Even if he’d just met the guy, comfort was comfort.
At the end he let Jack’s hand go with only some reluctance, cringing at the white imprint his fingers had made on Jack’s skin.
‘Sorry. And thanks.’
‘Don’t mention it.’ Jack flexed his hand (it was only moderately painful.) Students around them were emptying the arena fast. Albert and Race started to head off in different directions. Jack took a couple of steps backwards, following Race. ‘Maybe I’ll see you around?’
‘Maybe you will.’ Davey smiled, almost daring himself to ask Jack when he might see him around, but panicking at the last moment. He headed away with Albert.
Race stared, incredulous, at Jack. ‘”Maybe I’ll see you around?”’
‘Didn’t wanna come on too strong!’
‘You just held his had for almost two hours, Jack.’
Jack glanced back over his shoulder and caught a fleeting moment of eye contact with Davey who was doing the same.
‘It’s a good start, isn’t it?’
/
Davey went to watch the next task with Sarah. Again, he had been planning on staying in and studying, even with the potential draw of handsome strangers offering to protect him from danger. At the same time, he may or may not have been keeping an eye out for Jack Kelly in the week since they had met, and he hadn’t spotted him once. He might not even be at the event, and if he was, there was no guarantee Davey would see him.
Like he had even thought about it.
But Sarah had cornered him at breakfast and told him categorically that they were going on a sibling date to check out the foreign kids in their bathing suits. They ambled down to the hills to take a sailboat into the lake, clad in their big coats and knitted hats, using the opportunity to catch up.
‘What happened to the little kid who used to come and find me every mealtime, huh? Haven’t seen you in weeks.’ Sarah aimed a light kick at him from across the boat. Davey smiled as he remembered how scared he’d been of starting at Hogwarts.
‘I guess I thought that you’d be able to introduce me to people, but you weren’t as cool as you pretended to be.’
‘Excuse you! I happen to be very popular… among… my friends.’
‘You’re right, I’m very sorry, Sarah.’
‘I actually do have some exciting developments in the gal pal department. You know Katherine from seventh year?’
‘I know Katherine from seventh year.’ He clambered out of the boat up to the stand, reaching in to help her up.
‘I’ve been getting to know Katherine from seventh year.’ She grinned, pushing him towards the crowd. ‘We spent all day together in Hogsmeade last weekend and then we had an accidental sleepover by the lake.’
‘Ew. I’ve heard enough.’
‘Not like that, gross! But I am feeling really good about her.’
‘Is she not here today?’
‘No, she’s on press duties. How cool is that?’
‘That is cool. In fact, maybe too cool. Definitely too cool for you.’
‘Luckily she hasn’t realised that yet.’ She poked him in the chest. ‘Your turn.’
‘What?’
‘Anything on the horizon?’ They found a place at the front and Davey leaned over the railing, letting the cold air whip his face, trying to decide if “I met a hot guy a week ago” was sufficient gossip for Sarah.
‘Not really.’
‘Your pause was very telling, Davey.’
‘It’s nothing. There’s no-one.’
‘You’re not getting out of it that easy!’
‘Davey!’ He heard the voice over his shoulder and for a split second he was glad of the distraction, before he realised who it was. Oh boy. He turned to see Jack heading over. He smiled in greeting, ignoring Sarah’s raised eyebrows. ‘You look cold.’
‘Yeah, it’s the… cold.’ His cheeks turned even redder as Jack reached out and touched one gently.
‘Better than almost being set on fire, I guess.’
‘A lot of things are.’ Jack stood next to him, leaning on the rail, looking at Sarah. ‘I’m Jack.’
‘Sarah.’
‘Not crashing a date or something, am I?’
‘Not at all. This here’s my baby brother.’ She grinned at Davey, who had managed to blush harder.
‘Bet you could tell me some stories, huh?’
‘Depends what you wanna know.’
Davey cleared his throat. ‘Guys, it’s starting.’ He didn’t want their conversation going any deeper - he knew what Sarah was like. She loved him a lot but god, she liked making him squirm.
The four champions stepped forward and a distinct impressed mumble passed through the crowd. Jack took a few seconds to rake his eyes over Viktor Krum and his tiny red shorts, and piped up.
‘I’m gayer than I thought.’
Sarah, just barely hearing, was captivated by blonde hair and lycra.
‘Me too.’
/
During breakfast the day before the first task, an owl dropped a handwritten note into Davey’s porridge.
How about we meet at the last task on purpose?
It was complete with a little moving doodle of cartoon-Jack valiantl protecting cartoon-Davey from a dragon, a drawing that might have been embarrassing were it not, you know, true. All the same it made Davey chuckle quietly, and he pulled out his quill to scribble a yes. Hanging out with Jack at the second task had been fun, even if Davey felt like an asshole for letting Sarah be turned into the third wheel. Jack was funny, making quips about what the mermaids might have stolen from him, and how he’d go about trying to do the task (transforming into a giant squid and fucking up everyone and everything until they handed Crutchie back to him with an apology note.)
At the end when Katherine came over to find Sarah, having finished composing her report, Jack confessed that he’d lost his friends when he spotted Davey, so the two ended up sharing a boat back to the castle. It had all seemed to get very… date-like, something Davey was totally fine with of course, but he was a little reticent in acknowledging it, in case he’d misread all the signals. Even now, telling Jack that he’d like to go with him to the last task, he didn’t want to let himself get too hopeful about the two of them, telling himself that it was still a good thing that Jack wanted to hang out. Even without any… intentions.
He gave the note back to the owl and watched as it soared across the great hall, over to the Gryffindor table he’d spent so long looking for Jack at. It flew all the way to the end, by the door, and he sat up as straight as he could to spot him.
Jack was sitting at the very end of the table, backwards, which went some way to explaining why Davey had never been able to spot him before. He was talking animatedly to a kid at the Hufflepuff table, one who had similarly turned his back on his own housemates. Davey recognised him, it was the kid everyone called Crutchie - he assumed it was an affectionate nickname, but he couldn’t be sure. Now he had found Jack, he watched him read the reply, felt the violent sting of butterflies in his stomach when he saw Jack say something to Crutchie, and Crutchie react with sheer delight.
Then Jack looked over his shoulder and caught Davey staring. Crutchie waved. Davey blushed, obviously. But he smiled too.
They met by the front door and walked across to the arena in the twilight. Davey itched to reach out and take Jack’s hand but even though they’d been there and done that, it would have felt like an enormous assumption. He took his cues from Jack, the more confident of the two, who was interested in using the cold weather to his advantage. They found decent spots towards the back.
‘Who d’you think’s gonna take this?’ Davey asked as they stared down at the hedges.
‘As much as I wanna say one of our guys, I kind of want it to be Krum. But I think that’s just me falling for his charm.’
‘Is that your type?’ This felt like a very brazen and un-Davey thing to say, but he saw a tiny window and had to leap through it. Jack pretended to think about it for a moment.
‘You know, I’m not sure. I’m starting to think I prefer someone a little taller. Little cuter.’ He looked at Davey. ‘Little smarter.’
‘How do you know how smart he is?’
‘I know how smart you are. Odds are he don’t match up.’
Davey looked at the ground to hide the grin that forced it’s way on to his face. Jack bit his lip, shuffling from one foot to the other.
‘Sorry, that was too corny. You can tell me to stop it.’
‘I don’t really want you to stop it.’ He looked back up at Jack. The air was full of excitement. Student babbled incoherently around them, and suddenly they’d both admitted something. They were quiet amongst the chaos for a moment and it was Jack who, with a smile on his face, started to lean in.
Cheers exploded around them as they kissed for the first time and they took a couple of seconds to pretend it was for them, riding the high of what sounded like a Hogwarts victory, with their own personal wave of elation. It only lasted a moment, more sweet and searching than anything else.
Their resultant dopey grins fell quickly as they heard an anguished scream from the field. Something was wrong.
Reflexively Davey reached for Jack’s hand, seeking that comfort, as he tried to figure out what was going on. The news of Cedric’s death travelled up to them via murmurs in the crowd and catalysed the wave of unease that the castle wouldn’t shake for months, that contradicted fiercely with the new happiness Jack and Davey had found, and yet that gave them more reason to cling to each other.

More Returns
Here's a superb podcast on Peaks. May 30 is the most recent episode. A great listen. Counter Esperanto Podcast: Tangents About Twin Peaks: 10th Secret: The Return
On Tue, Jun 13, 2017 at 1:53 PM, Dom wrote: I'll check it out tonight.
So my Diane prediction was on the fucking money.
I got another theory I'm working on.
Who's the mysterious billionaire? I heard some people say it may be Audrey Horne. I heard some people say it is Jack (John Justice Wheeler). I heard some people say it is Phillip Jeffries or Evil Cooper.
Put on your tinfoil hat for this one. The Billionaire is Leo Johnson. He lived through his spider ordeal. Then he took everything that Windom left behind (notes, computer files, other assorted Windom things) and built a criminal empire. I find it very hard to believe that the fucking casting director's son who was in the 1st two seasons and the fucking movie is NOT in this one.
The secret history of twin peaks tells us what happens to a bunch of characters like Leo. For instance Hank dies in prison. But not one word in the book about Leo? I got to believe that he lives and he’s not just a slobbering fool any more. I know this is probably not going to happen. But that's my theory.
I cannot imagine Leo is a rich billionaire — how did he make his money? A theory that makes sense I’ve heard on EW TP podcast that it could be BOB-Cooper attempting to catch Good Cooper if he ever left the Lodge. But really, I have no idea… not as of end of P7.
I like how Lynch-Frost are using all official Twin Peaks releases as canon to draw the narrative from — Laura’s Diary, FWWM, Missing Pieces of blu-ray edition, as well as many classic episode threads.
And like Erik, I KNOW, that Sheriff Harry S. Truman will make an appearance in this season. I feel it in my bones.
It’s looking grim for Harry — or rather, it sounds grim from Frank saying to Harry, “beat this thing.” But actually I can see Ontkean coming out of retirement to have a role toward the end of the series. I also (want to) believe Josie returning … maybe she’s the billionaire, but why would she make such a contraption mounted to the side of building?
On Sun, Jun 25, 2017 at 2:26 AM, Erik wrote: Good Morning Gents. Grab a cup a joe and settle down a minute. I got some backed up information for yous … << Starts Tape Recorder…. >>
Spot on is right Mr Domi. You got that Diane was Laura Dern AND that she drinks at the Pub we went to. I even want to say she is seated in the area of the bar that we were sitting at that night.  Glad it wasn't raining when we went, "FUCK Gene Kelly, You mother fucker!!" LOL I love Albert, he is my favorite this season. (Location: Max Von's Bar = Casey's Irish Pub, 619 South Grand, LA)
So Episode 7 should have shut up all those whiner's and complainer's of Ep 6. There was a lot of hate on the internet, and even in our FB Group, about that episode. I was ok with it. I did not like the scene with the kid getting hit by the truck, but the scene ended with the Fat Trout Telephone pole, so I'm ok with it.
"Lynch has gotten flak for the male gaze in his work, but the problems go a lot deeper than lingering shots on female anatomy.…” Laura Hudson in Vulture.
Also in EP 6 we finally got two major new pieces of music from Angelo, not his best work, but still great to hear.  The overall lack of his music is my biggest complaint this season in case I didn't make that clear.
When Johnny Jewel's Windswept first appeared, I thought that was Badalamenti  finally debuting new music. I was definitely disappointed it was not Angelo, no disrespect to Johnny. But I agree with you Erik about no AB original score. That music is what made classic Peaks so memorable. I don’t get why Lynch is using such popular music. There really wan’t any such tracks in FWWM, it was Angelo’s music and further cemented Peaks as evergreen. Lynch is acting like Scorcese in the epic cinematic story… and he doesn’t need to. Marty did not have a Badalamenti in his arsenal. Lynch does. Please use him.
EP 7...There's a body alright.. is definitely the shit. Now we are cooking. Jerry!!!! Come out of it man... Lets get Ben and Jerry back in action, not disfunction. The diary pages, Annie's message from FWWM, Leland hiding pages, DIANE from hell! ... Bringing it all back home.
There’s a dark undercurrent with Diane and Cooper. All signs are indicating something very bad happened to Diane. I think BOB-Cooper raped her.
I wonder where Frank Truman was at the time of Laura's murder? He says he remembers Leland, her father, did it, but is not really familiar with the case. BUT why the heck is Frank not asking "So what is "the Lodge" you keep talking about?” Hawk?
The way Hawk talks so knowledgable about both Lodges and the way Frank does not question or disbelieve him, then it must be common knowledge among the indigenous culture. Wonder if Frank is a Bookhouse Boy?
Ancient Doc Hayward, kinda sad, but he was still funny. Did you catch his Skype name?  MiddleburyDoc... Warren Frost was actually living in VT right? They probably actually did just Skype him and screen capture it…lol
I caught that right away about Warren Frost’s Skype handle. And no doubt, Frost stayed in Vermont to do his scene. That just recorded the screen.… I do miss Briggs. Yet he died long before Lynch-Frost’s three-year tenure writing the new story, they had plenty of time to work the presence of him into the story.
Briggsy.. Oh Major Briggs. how we miss thee. Should be interesting how this plays out. And When the hell are we going to go back to I bet the road where Andy is waiting to meet the Truck owner is up there at Frankln Canyon Pond.
The Dog Leg.... WTF?  Is Joe McCluskey the guy that rigged the car and Mr C Killed earlier on? I do think the Psycho Little guy with the Ice Pick and Gun is kinda silly. Over the top for no reason.  Oh well.… It's kinda silly also that no one has taken Dougie to the Doctor. Everyone just plays along. we have to suspend disbelief I guess.
OMG enough with the guy sweeping at the Roadhosue. Is this all the extra time he told Shotime he needed more money for to tell the story properly?  lol and more music used in hundreds of shows and commercials. I love Booker T and the MGs don't get me wrong, but ... UGH I miss you Angelo... Also... Kinda weird to see Jean Michel... Did Jacque Renault have a twin brother? lol Mr. C and Ray getting out of Prison.. Bad stuff gonna happen. I think they might have used San Bernadino County Jail for this locaton. The Cell block Cooper is located on looks familar.  I will compare some screen grabs from my Locaton and Publicity Photos we took for Beyond Scared Straight at that jail.
And beause they needed to pad the ending to get to the alloted running time... Back to the RR Diner for the end scene, and yet another over-used stock song they probably had to pay more to use than what they paid Angelo for everything. Plus, I liked that song better when they used it in the X-files episode “Home" but No, I'm not bitter.
General notes: Glad Naomi Watts has such a big part. She really owns her scenes. Wish Jennifer Jason Leigh was more present but Mr C just left Jail for somewhere... It's slightly brilliant how Lynch (but probably Frost came up with it) still has made Harry a character in the show. even if only on the phone and never even heard. I feel like Harry is there kinda. Also brilliant... Robert Forrester.... wow. Wish he was in the original or the movie. Not sure how I feel with Dern as Diane. I'll go with it and see what happens.
Outstanding questions for me....(cause I haven't been reading blogs or listening to podcasts)
What is up with all the Arthurian Legend references? Dougie lives on Lancalot Court, down the street from the Merlin Market. Janey-E meets for the ransom drop on the corner of Gueneivere and Merlin. And of course, Glastonbury Grove... Pete Martel: "King Arthur's burried in England!"
Why is it when Dougie puts his thumb up or his hand out to shake, he turns his body 180 degrees?
What is up with the creepy guy (from Mulholland Diner scene) in the Vegas Office? I can't seem to catch his meaning in the story line.
What is up with Cooper's Room Key from the Great Northern? If has finally made it back to Ben Horne...Soooo?
One last question... Did Lynch quit smoking?  He made two references to people (Gordon Cole even) quitting. Did we ever even see Cole smoke in the series or movie? weird for him to say he quit when the character never smoked on camera. "You think about that Tammy."

To my knowledge that was the first time ever we have heard name Joe McCluskey. I have no clue who that is. But I have a feeling we will learn.
Yea, I don’t recollect Joe McCluskey. Gotta watch again to see if he first appears or is mentioned earlier.
I think Ike the Spike is either from the black lodge or an agent of the black lodge. Remember he smelled "funny" per the little girl.
Spike did look a little monstery, his teeth especially.
I actually loved that scene of the sweeping. I could just imagine everyone watching was freaking out and I enjoyed that. And I thought that Walter did some great acting while on the phone as Jean-Michel. "He owes me for two!"
That ending scene from the RR diner was weird as shit. Its either the worst continuity error of all time or something truly weird happened there. Completely different set of people dining there after David Lynch's son runs in and asks if anyone has seen Billy.
Lynch did not quit smoking. He, like Harry Dean are lifers.
Both Laura Dern and Naomi Watts are killing their roles. Both doing a fantastic job. I just cannot wait to see them come face to face over Dougie.
And MacLachlan! All his Cooper iterations are really well done. I love that BOB-Cooper character. Can’t wait to see what trouble he kicks up now!
My new tin foil theory is that we may be dealing with 2 Twin Peaks. Twins of each other if you will. I'm still working this one out. Different versions of the same town in different universes a part of a greater multiverse?
Did you notice Andy was wearing a rolex? Kind of weird.
…And he was supposed to meet the guy at 4:30. Is that one of the numbers from ????? ?
The guy from the Vegas office is working directly for Phillip Jeffries or whoever is pretending to be him IMO.
Don’t overlook the black soot guy walking in the hallway toward the female FBI agent in the morgue. I think it’s related to the guy next to Bill Hastings cell.…
Lots of Arthurian Legend stuff from way back when. I never got that. But its seems to be very important. I would love to go to Merlin's Market.
During the end credits from the last episode buried in the music is Windham Earle's theme mixed into the background too!!!!!
I might try headphones for tonight’s part to see exactly what sounds I miss. I know there’s a lot of low audible noise and rumbling that I don’t hear when our apartment is 86º and the fan is going.…

Yeah I agree about MacLachlan is killing it and should win an Emmy for best actor. Black soot guy is awesome and its the same dude for sure from the jail cell. Some people seem to think we have seen him a third time as a homeless man outside of Vegas at the Rachera Rosa is whatever it is called. I don't think that we did. I will need to re-watch that again. Another tin foil hat theory. On those three pages from Laura's diary she refers to knowing who it is and that its not Bob. At least everyone thinks she is referencing Leland. That is probably most right. However I am thinking that she is referring to an evil more powerful and sadistic than even Bob.Like whatever came out of the glass box and mutilated those younglings.

I am thinking if the guy in the diner eating food non-stop the whole scene with Ray and the chick Mr C shot in the head.  Just before he kills her, he tells her "i killed joe, and the she freaks out, knowing the gig is up.   The previous scene the eating guy "joe" does something to a car in storage and then cooper like squeezes his face for a whole minute.   Could be McCluskey?
> "Lynch did not quit smoking."
Well, its mighty fine of him to send a non smoking message to all the youths. Considering Cole does not smoke, it is a conscious message.
> "All his Cooper iterations are really well done."
Yes, Kyle will def get an Emmy nomination. Dern and Watts will also I predict.
> “RR diner was weird as shit. Its either the worst continuity error of all time or something truly weird happened there.”
There are no accidents on a Lynch set. If an error occurs and he likes it he will use it. So who knows why he did it. On the same level as the windows  flashing code on the FBI jet.  He is throwing out decoys i feel.
> “then it (the Lodge) must be common knowledge among the indigenous culture.”
Then why the heck is Truman not like "well lets go up there" nor does Hawk tell him he was up in those woods when Log Lady last called.
> “Don’t overlook the black soot guy walking in the hallway”
Nope, I did not mention him cause i consider it another decoy.  Kinda like the shambling being behind the diner in Mulholland Drive...never came up again. i am sure he will play a part at some point.
But i did forget to mention the playing card Mr. C  showed the girl in the hotel bed before he shoots her.  Aliens? Very well could be.
Have a good viewing. The damn internet saying EP 8 is extra noteworthy. Could it be Phillip Jeffries? Windom Earl?  More Leland and Laura? (I actually doubt we will see either of them again).  Audrey? Big Ed? They got plenty of options.
Cheers! ~G

off the rack #1148
Monday, January 23, 2017
Squirrels, the scourge of birdfeeders. One clever rodent managed to open the cage holding a suet block for our woodpeckers and run off with the whole thing. Penny was fit to be tied. She went out and bought a squirrel bell to put on the post but I don't think it will keep the little buggers from climbing up and getting at the feed. We'll see.
I spent yesterday watching the conference playoff games. Poor Packers, sorry Steelers, better luck next year. Super Bowl 51 will feature two teams with great quarterbacks and receivers. I am hoping for a high scoring affair.
Artist extraordinaire Tom Fowler will be signing his new book Tabletop Fantasy & Comics Art at Comet Comics on Saturday, January 28 from 2 to 6 PM. Come in and commiserate and watch Tom doodle. That's also Chinese New Year of the Rooster day so you can cock-a-doodle-do too.
Monsters Unleashed #1 - Cullen Bunn (writer) Steve McNiven (pencils) Jay Leisten (inks) David Curiel (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). I didn't think I was going to read this after being disappointed by the monster fighting story in Batman and Detective Comics and the fact that Cullen isn't one of my favourite writers but I was surprised that I enjoyed this a lot. Mainly because Steve is one of my favourite artists. The story seems basic. Giant space monsters are appearing all over the world and all your favourite super heroes are fighting them. I mean ALL the super heroes. This is a story that I would not continue to read if it wasn't for the beautiful art.
Superman #15 - Peter J. Tomasi & Patrick Gleason (writers) Ryan Sook, Ed Benes, Clay Mann & Jorge Jimenez (art) Ryan Sook, Dinei Ribeiro, Ulises Arreola & Alejandro Sanchez (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). The villain's name is Prophecy and Superman comes up with a plan to beat him in part 2 of Multiplicity. Massive multi-hero stories like this seem to dominate the racks right now and I wonder when fans are going to grow tired of them.
Kill Or Be Killed #5 - Ed Brubaker (writer) Sean Phillips (art) Elizabeth Breitweiser (colours). Dylan gives us two for one this issue as two months have gone by since the last time he had to kill someone to stay alive. The coolest thing for me about this issue was the philosophical wonderings about Carl Jung and synchronicity that Dylan has. I've wondered the same things. There have been many instances in my life where I have thought about someone and then they show up soon after. Is it because I think about the people I care about a lot or is it because I can sense their presence? Sometimes I think it’s the latter because one minute I'm thinking about them and there they are the next minute. It's weird.
Black Widow #10 - Chris Samnee & Mark Waid (writers) Chris Samnee (art) Matthew Wilson (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This issue shows us what became of Nick Fury. Not the black scar face guy but the white Howling Commando guy. I know, it's very confusing. The bad guys come to a grisly end but don't despair, there are more villains for Natasha to deal with. It will be interesting to see how she stops those little Black Widows.
Batman #15 - Tom King (writer) Mitch Gerads (art & colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). If you're looking to give your sweetie a nice romance story for Valentine's Day, the 2-part Rooftops in this and issue #14 would be the cat's meow.
Archie #16 - Mark Waid (writer) Joe Eisma (art) Andre Szymanowicz (colours) Jack Morelli (letters). This issue features Dilton Doiley and a social media app that he invented. It also shows Cheryl Blossom beginning her plot to get revenge on Veronica as she insinuates herself into the lives of the kids in Riverdale while Ronnie is still in Switzerland. I know this book is like a teenage soap opera but it's well done and good for some light entertainment.
Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #3 - Kieron Gillen (writer) Kev Walker (art) Antonio Fabela (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I like this hybrid comic book. It's part Indiana Jones and part Tank Girl. The psychopathic killer droids are fun and would be a good name for a rock band.
Justice League vs. Suicide Squad #5 - Joshua Williamson (writer) Robson Rocha (pencils) Jay Leisten, Daniel Henriques, Sandu Florea & Oclair Albert (inks) Alex Sinclair with Jeremiah Skipper (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). I did not like the sudden change of the Heart of Darkness possessed Max Lord. Yes, it made way for an even nastier villain to appear for next issue's conclusion but it was way too easy. First appearance alert: see the new Justice League of America right here folks.
Black Hammer Annual - Jeff Lemire (writer) Nate Powell, Matt Kindt, Dustin Nguyen, Ray Fawkes, Emi Lenox, Michael Allred (art) Dave Stewart & Sharlene Kindt (colours) Todd Klein (letters). I enjoyed this blast from the past featuring the young versions of the exiled heroes as the Colonel follows the flight of a mysterious alien.
Spider-Gwen #16 - Jason Latour (writer) Robbi Rodriguez (art) Rico Renzi (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles & Travis Lanham (letters). Had to read this because it crosses over with Spider-Man #12. Part 2 of "Sitting in a Tree" doesn't have any K.I.S.S.I.N.G. as Miles and Gwen search for Miles's dad. Jason made it fun to visit Earth-65 and I would consider following this book if I had more time. Robbi made it easy to recognise the major characters too. I knew instantly who Matt Murdock and Doc Ock were. When Miles finds Jefferson Davis (why don't father and son have the same last name?) is it his dad or the Jefferson Davis of Earth-65? I can't wait to find out in Spider-Man #13 which hits the racks February 15.
U.S.Avengers #2 - Al Ewing (writer) Paco Medina (pencils) Juan Vlasco (inks) Jesus Aburtov (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Time traveling and dimension hopping, my two least favourite plot devices. Captain America 20XX gives us the lowdown on the Golden Skull villain. I'm giving this story some leeway though because I love Paco's art and the subtle humour that Al puts in. A billionaire named Bryce with a manservant named Freddie. Har.
Mighty Captain Marvel #1 - Margaret Stohl (writer) Ramon Rosanas (art) Michael Garland (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I really like the art in this new book and the villain is a juicy mystery. I think I know who it is too. It will be fun to see if I'm right or wrong.
Avengers #3.1 - Mark Waid (writer) Barry Kitson (pencils) Mark Farmer with Rafael Fonteriz & Barry Kitson (inks) Jordan Boyd & Wil Quintana (colours) Ferran Delgado (letters). The mysterious Cressida, who can boost someone's powers, has helped Captain America, Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch gain support from the general populace. When things look too good to be true they usually are. This story just got a lot more interesting.
Gamora #2 - Nicole Perlman (writer) Marco Checchetto (art) Andres Mossa (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). Gamora isn't the only tough spacewoman in this story. She meets up with a Badoon drug dealer and I don't think that they'll get along. This is a good space adventure.
Invincible Iron Man #3 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Stefano Caselli (art) Marte Gracia (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). When are they going to start calling this book Ironheart? I like the name. I also like how Brian builds relationships in his books. All of my favourite comic books have characters that the writer has taken the time to make me care about them. Brian does this with great dialogue between people. The three major scenes in this issue illustrate that very well and it really helps that Stefano's art is so pretty and expressive.
Dead No More: The Clone Conspiracy #4 - Dan Slott (writer) Jim Cheung (pencils) John Dell & Cory Smith (inks) Justin Ponsor (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This story is quite convoluted but I am sticking with it to see how everything pans out. I really liked Anna Maria's role in this issue and how she changed the way Doc Ock behaved. You go girl.
Amazing Spider-Man #23 - Dan Slott & Christos Gage (writers) Giuseppe Camuncoli (pencils) Cam Smith (inks) Jason Keith (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Most of this issue made my head hurt. Here's where Peter and clone Gwen talk about how real the clones are. This conversation takes place in the middle of what was happening in Dead No More: The Clone Conspiracy #4 so there is some overlap for fans who are not reading that mini. I can't wait for Clone Conspiracy to end. This story is getting tedious.
