The first time Hiyori wore make-up was when she was playing about with Kirio’s dressing up things for a summer festival. Her captain said she was allowed to choose anything - and she also wanted to look more grown up. She was getting to that age where she wanted to be noticed not just for her amazing left hook, but also to look pretty.

Because Hiyori is a more is more kind of person, the results weren’t... very good. She has way too much face powder, eye-shadow, lipstick and even added some extra ribbons. She jumps out of the room, in her lil yukata feeling super duper confident about how she’s going to knock everyone’s tabi socks off with this new and improved Hiyori until she got to the festival and everyone just died of laughter.

So, she did not end up looking like any of the pretty, perfumed Shinigami she sees and instead, looks more and more like a reject Kokeshi doll. 

She got over it, of course- even she can admit what a terrible look it was and was a champ about it later on (after she’d beaten up six people).
