HEADCANON / META TIME ! (Betrayal + Relationship with Sirius + Family Views Briefly)

This is kind of ranty, but it involves a lot of headcanons I have for Tonks and her point of view on situations. So like read if you want!

      Im about to fight this computer. It’s being so slow and the keypad keys are getting stuck and the sort. It’s getting annoying. I just want to gush about Tonks’ main concern as an Auror is one day being caught off guard and is used against somebody or is used to find info on somebody. Why? Because Tonks loves everybody she has the will to get to know. If she is asking you questions about yourself and involves you in her life, she loves you. She can’t stand the idea of being the person to betray someone. It’s probably why she is hesitant with the entire situation with Sirius. She didn’t know him but from what she heard, he did the very thing she refuses to do in a million years. I can see more clearly now why Tonks might not have the closest relationship with Sirius in the start. She loves giving people the benefit of the doubt but she can’t help but just be so WEARY around Sirius. If she ever met Peter Pettigrew (she probably did at some point), she would honestly be so offended and disgusted. I borderline don’t think Tonks would be able to handle herself in that situation well enough to hold herself back and just give Peter a good punch in the face. It’s ridiculous, I know, to think Tonks gets offended for people who are dead but it’s like Sirius pointed out. Tonks would rather die than betray his friends. Why? For Sirius, it might have been because they were the only truly family he had. To Tonks, they are the extended family she always wanted. 

So In my head how this is working out, Tonks is hesitant of Sirius because of past judgements made on him but I can see the two talking at some point, or Tonks overhears a conversation he is having with somebody about the whole ordeal and he is able to persuade Tonks to give him another chance. that this was not his doing. Of course, I have noted this before, I don’t believe Sirius and Tonks have a close relationship and I do believe that Tonks would still be hesitant a bit around Sirius but she would give him the benefit of the doubt, and see the wrongdoings of the justice system. As she is trying to get to know Sirius and trust him, he does die, and Tonks is destroyed about it. 

Why? Because Sirius was the only other family member in her family she could talk to about their family. The family she never knew. Not only that, but when he died, she was truly getting use to him and having him in her life. She was glad she was able to give him a second chance. She can know who the real Sirius Black is. But that didn’t last. He died and she couldn’t do anything about it. It felt so nice to her to have somebody from the family. Someone else besides her quieted mother and the rest of the family who had shunned her and didn’t keep in any contact to Nymphadora’s knowledge. It was nice to have Sirius around. Sure, she wasn’t his main focus and he had better things to talk about but the family that shunned him but to Tonks its the only connection to family she has. Blood family at least, which to Tonks is still something that is means they should love you no matter what they do or like or dislike. 

That’s the thing that messes her up a lot, the idea of family. Like, her friends can accept her for who she is. Why can’t her fucking family do the same? Just drop the whole pureblood pride and shit and just love each other? It really pisses her off sometimes, just that whole idea. She has come to terms with herself but it doesn’t mean she wants to somehow justify the behavior of her family. 

Of course, this gets way harder when BELLATRIX tries to KILL her. Like damn. Tonks just wants her family to stop being stupid and just love each other. Tonks feels like there is this deep pain in her entire family from the idea of being betrayed by another, particularly by Andromeda leaving to be with a muggle, and that to deal with this deep pain of betrayal, they try to blame something. ANYTHING! This is where muggles come in. They blame muggles, and then it just leads to so much hatred and even more pain. Tonks can see by her mother’s face that she is hurting when she thinks about her life before she was shunned. THE BLACK FAMILY TRULY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER BUT THEY LEFT THEIR JUDGEMENTS GET CLOUDED BY THIS DEEP BELIEF OF BETRAYAL. i know i ranted about this to @proditeur but like damn. more thought into it and i’m just dying and crying.

as someone who writes andromeda, i have to ask...how do you view nymphadora's relationship with her mother? what does tonks think of andromeda? how much does she know of her mother's history? etc :3

          First Off, HI MAMA BLACK, HOW CHA DOIN’? WINK WONK. Second, I have always been curious to explore the relationship Nymphadora and Andromeda have! Or at least hear somebody else’s perspective on their relationship. Right now, the only people my Tonks hasn’t interacted with and who I really want her to interact with is Andromeda, Ted, and Alastor Moody! So My interpretation of their relationship is purely based on my own headcanons and the limited I have seen in the movies. I haven’t gotten to the point where Nymphadora appears in the series. ANYWHO! TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS!

My view on Nymphadora’s Relationship with Her Mother?

How I see it, Nymphadora admires and respects her mother. Tonks is glad her mother did what she did in the end, because it was time to be selfish for once in her life in Tonks’ perspective. Nobody can take away her mother’s right to love whoever, less to force her to do something she doesn’t want to do and doesn’t believe in. Though her mother seems pretty docile and borderline fragile, she is one strong woman inside and Tonks can’t help but acknowledge it and just admire it fully. Andromeda doesn’t need her last name to be respected and highly-regarded by society. Tonks would be a foul to not respect her, but sometimes Nymphadora would wish that Andromeda would be more open with her, especially in her early teenage years where she struggled the most with her identity. As much as Andromeda tried, Tonks just felt out of place in the world. She didn’t belong, and Tonks wanted to find her place somewhere. Anywhere, honestly.

what does tonks think of andromeda?

Andromeda is one of the toughest people Tonks knows. It’s not physical strength, it’s emotional and mentally tough. She endured being shunned and almost legitimately being alone raising a girl with ‘special needs’ in a way, and attempting to still be a loving wife to her spouse in times of war. Not only that, but as Tonks grows up, she comes to appreciate Andromeda for letting her figure things out on her own. Nobody can replace the teachings one teaches themselves, in Tonks’ opinion. Also, between the two parents, Tonks sees Andromeda as the dad in the relationship according to society during that time. Andromeda didn’t work, but she seemed protective of Tonks. Not only that but she often seemed distant from Tonks. I always believed that Tonks has had a stronger relationship with her father Ted just because Ted was there to help explain things while Andromeda dealt with things within herself and would involve her in his daily life. I don’t think Andromeda’s strong point was communication, so there was that lack of communication between Tonks and Meda. 

how much does she know of her mother’s history?

Like I stated above, I always believed Andromeda’s strong point was NOT communication, so when it came to her mother’s history, Tonks knew little. However, the more Tonks asked by people around her, the more she realized the biases among them all. It was because Tonks knew little about Andromeda’s relationship with her family that Tonks SEEKED OUT THE ONLY PERSON SHE THOUGHT WOULD TALK TO HER and attempted to talk to her. That person was Narcissa, but in my mind it didn’t work out. It could have if I interact with a Narcissa but in my mind it doesn’t work according to my own interpretation of Narcissa. ANYWAYS! Tonks knows the story of how Ted and Andromeda met (i would actually need to ask about this when i interact with meda or ted), and their wedding. She knows the shunning Andromeda faced when she determined to stay with Ted, and Tonks has been led to believe that Andromeda and Bellatrix never had the greatest relationship and something happened between them that Bellatrix wants to get revenge. That revenge comes in the form of killing the one thing that really matters in Andromeda’s life and that is Ted or Tonks. Tonks knows little, but she is willing to ask people when she is curious. Especially Sirius if he isn’t busy, since he likes her (in her mind) and knew her mother during that time.

Just some final notes I would like to add before I end this. I know that this may be different from how you interpret Andromeda but all I have ever had to work with is research, personal interpretations, and the occasional cute edit I see on the internet. Andromeda might be a great communicator, or she may be very open about her relationship with her family but my Tonks hasn’t experienced that in my mind. IF YOU WANT TO INTERACT, THAT COULD TOTALLY HELP ME BUILD ON MY OWN INTERPRETATION AND EVEN MAYBE EVOLVE IT AND CHANGE IT A BIT!         can i cry at the thought of Arthur Weasley, co-worker with Ted Tonks and friend of the family, coming to Andromeda’s home to find Tonks to give her the belongings of her father, Andromeda opening the door and immediately walking away and the sight of ted’s favorite coat with a tissue in hand and eyes so red from crying so much. Tonks goes to the door with a box an asks Arthur to put it in there because she can’t touch them. why can’t she touch them? because if she does, she is going to feel the familiarity behind that fabric on the coat. she is going to feel the extra pair of glasses he carries for reading sometimes. she doesn’t want to see the small little notes he’s written to himself on occasion about books or work. even worse, she might just get a wift of the ever so familiar smell that is her daddy and start to cry AGAIN. 

Tonks couldn’t stand to go where they said her father was. even worse when there was a possibility that he was dead. 

So Arthur went for the Tonks family, and returned. He put the things in the box, closed it for Tonks even, and put it down on the ground before he brought Nyna into a hug and Tonks just CRIED her heart out in the arms of the man that her father admired so much as a friend, parent, and colleague. the other man in her life she would be close to as a father figure.

I’m going to go cry because Tonks needs her father ASAP and because I want to do replies before I post what I’m going to post.
