REST [from SIF to VALKYRIE | post sparring] / accepting. @yearnstarved
The breeze is welcome on her tired limbs; still somewhat sore and out of practice after being bedridden for so long. Weeks have passed slowly since God Butcher nearly took her life and certainly took her kidney, and only recently did she start feeling like herself again.
Though her body is littered with physical scars of many battles she has gone through, those unseen never quite healed; the most recent one is still tears at her heartstrings every time she is this far out of the village, and on the cliffside where Jane's statue now rests; a monument the King herself insisted on raising in memory of the one who saved them all.
First several days that she's come here were lonely and sad, and many tears were shed for the loss of yet another sister, of another friend that has found her final rest in Valhalla; now far beyond her reach.
And yet, on the fifth day of her recovery, another has joined her for the first time, and did not leave her side ever since— Lady Sif, a warrior as beautiful as she was fierce, and days passed easily between them in conversation and laughter; while both of them gained back their strength and started training again.
Today is such a day, the King's favorite, and they are both laughing as they sit down on the yellowing grass, with vast sea in front of them and Jane's statue at their backs. The King's eyebrows raise in surprise as the raven head lowers itself down on her lap, but she objects not. Instead, she puts Dragonfang down beside them to place a gloved hand on a forehead and brush her thumb across it.
"Are you doing alright? Have I kicked your ass too hard today?"

The taste of Carol and the sounds that leave her are enough for the King to never stop giving her pleasure in such way. It is one of her favorite things, listening to her come undone and feeling the tremble of her thighs as she holds fast onto them. It is as fast as the Valkyrie expects it to be, almost as quick as her own undoing, but it lefts her feeling completely spent— and insanely hungry.
She holds onto Carol's hips as she kisses her way upward, under or over the sweater she cares not; feeling too relaxed in every single way. Once her lips graze Carol's earlobe, her head pulls back, leaving a chaste kiss upon a cheek and then licks her own lips, absentmindedly. The statement catches her off guard and she laughs, rather smugly, at the implication. Carol has told her something similar the first time the Valkyrie has pleasured her in this way, and the King has sworn that she would keep giving her what she wanted for as long as she could. It's the least she could do— considering the magic the blonde's fingers were capable of in return.
"You know I do much more than command." She muses with a coy smile and raised brows, holding Carol's hands in her own and drawing circular motions against her palms with her thumbs. "Whenever you need a reminder I'll be happy to oblige."
Eyes fall down on the still undone pants and this time her laughter is louder, more amused, and her chin juts forward, pointing at the cracked drywall right where Carol's head landed several moments earlier. "I'm afraid that you'll have to bill me for more than your wardrobe. I'll let Miek handle it when I'm back on Monday."
With a little wink, she steps to the side and opens the main door, buttoning up her own suit pants in the process and wiping the side of her mouth with her thumb. "I'll wait for you right outside and then you can show me this.... Denny. I might starve if we find nothing else to eat very soon. And you... will be charged with regicide."
The ‘How to Drywall for Dummies’ section of the local library was already called her name as soon as she heard the crack of the wall behind her. If she’d been in her right mind, she would’ve been ordering a next-day delivery of spackle and putty knives, but instead Valkyrie sank to her knees and Carol’s head hit the already broken wall and the last thing on her mind was teaching herself how to replace a wall as her eyelids slipped closed and her fingers rested in the intricate braids of the one beneath her and she allowed herself to fully and completely give herself to the moment.
The words she wanted to say were choked at the back of her throat as the movements of the other’s tongue against her caused her to come undone, all of the stars in the universe only making up half of the amount she saw behind her eyelids as the energy beneath her skin warmed and she tumbled over the proverbial edge that she’d been thrust upon. No amount of energy core explosions, sun restarting, or flying through giant spaceships could ever compare to the feeling that managed to leave her, Captain Marvel, the original Avenger, completely and utterly breathless.
“You command your people with that mouth,” the blonde chuckled softly, her lips curving ever so slightly as she met the King’s gaze, now level with her own. The moment in the hallway left her with a vulnerability that normally made her skin itch with discomfort, but in Valkyrie’s presence, she felt safe and welcomed the exposure.
Carol Danvers was sure she’d rip her chest open, bare for the other to see, with the way the woman was looking at her.
It was only as she settled her jeans back on her hips that she noticed the button missing from the front and remembered the sound of it popping onto the hardwood floor minutes earlier. “I think I’m going to have to start billing you for a new wardrobe,” Carol teased with a shake of her head. “At least it wasn’t the suit. Fury is going to kill me if I have to explain how another one managed to get ripped beyond repair. Blaming it on Goose only worked the first three times.”

I'm aware in the marvel avenger's, that Thor had no twin but in my main verse he does and his name is Adelrik. Thor and his twin hate each other, Adelrik has always done everything sabotage Thor and even tried to kill him many times. He's not good and wants the throne for himself. Adelrik believes it's his right to be the next king and will do anything to get it but that was cut short when Odin casted him out and stripping him of all his power. He's banished from Asgard and was thrown to earth, but he was thrown a little farther than anticipated and he landed in Helhiem, where Hel took his as her own. He was given powers from Hel herself which makes more stronger than he was before and he wants revenge on his family and he's hell bent on getting the throne and destroying Thor once and for all.
#just a little something for ya'll to think about#idc if thor never had a twin#this is my muse and my head canons#i will do as i please

The grip tightens on Dragonfang when she realizes she is being studied; in that same, scrutinizing way that she has seen Rio look at her once before; after the very last soul of her fallen sisters left and the last goodbyes were exchanged. Compared to the last time, she does NOT need the other's pity, for her life finally has some purpose again. Still, the King hides not the obvious grief the other has brought upon her just by announcing her presence— and there's a tinge of relief in there too. Rio was there to ask for help, after all, and not take yet another loved one into the realms unseen.
It is, however, an understatement that she doesn't expect what comes out of the other's mouth next, her surprise evident in the way her eyebrows raise and the slightest of smiles hints at the corner of the King's lips. "An ex-wife?", she cannot help herself through an amused chuckle, "I've got to admit I was not familiar with your game—" The tone of her voice lighter now, a consequence of being completely caught off guard by the information.
It makes sense, though, that someone as ancient as the Death herself would find a mate at some point or the other; for the loneliness of seeing the ages change without anyone by your side must be insurmountable when you are the definition of a thing everyone fears the most. She would know. And yet the King wonders what kind of a person would marry a being that was bound to take them to the afterlife, too, in the end. Resilient, fearless, powerful.
Curiosity is bigger than any other emotion now that more information is presented to her, so the Valkyrie finally sheathes the sword, eyes falling on the blue flower in Rio's hand. There would be some things that she would have to arrange at the town hall; but nothing too complex to require her to be in New Asgard for a while. So—
"I'll help, gladly." The words are final, sealed with a nod and a slight furrow of a brow when she looks back into the dark eyes. She could swear she sees an emotion behind them, carefully hidden behind the Death's mask. "Though I am curious— how exactly are you breaking this curse? Would you not need more help with that instead?"
THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING IN THEIR EYES. whether it be hate, dread, anger, fear. in valkyrie's eyes, rio can practically see all of the sorrows of the past coming back to the surface. for a formidable warrior such as valkyrie, death almost feels guilty for showing up and throwing a wrench in her day. that is a long buried emotion, however, and she fights to keep her tone even as she approaches and engages in conversation, walking slowly and deliberately.
she still remembers the day the valkyrie fell with great clarity. the bodies were endless, and helping them cross over one by one is a memory that can never be erased, despite centuries of other souls she's dealt with since then. she hates that now, she understands loss firsthand. she hates that the sympathy is now somehow even stronger than it had been before, since she'd experienced her own personal loss, a grief that weighs her down even now. and so, despite the emotional mask on her features, there's an apologetic tint to her expression as she finally comes to a stand in front of her.
"nothing too complex," she replies, shrugging. then she sighs, wrinkling her nose as she continues on, her voice taking on the usual frivolous tone it always has. "my ex wife is stuck in a stupid spell and since the original witch who cast it is now dead, i have to go help her break out." she scoffs. "pfft, women, am i right?"
and really, she wouldn't ask if there was anyone else to ask. she hadn't intended to steal the other woman from her duties as king. there are not many that death trusts, though, so one might even consider her showing up to be a compliment. the other times she's been here -- which is admittedly rare -- she's found herself occasionally watching valkyrie from the sidelines, watching what she's become.
"anyway," she continues, toying with a flower she'd bloomed on the way over. it's light blue, and its pedals are actively shifting, as though they're both trying to grow and trying to shrink at the same time. it's a contrast to her green and black moss-covered outfit she's wearing right now, but it also happens to be an exact copy of the blue flowers she'd bloomed just outside of the building, giving the place a slightly nicer look. "a couple of days, tops. just a few souls who need crossing over. it would be a... " she pauses, as though asking for help is pulling teeth, and smiles with her teeth. "great help."

“Ah, well, y’see… My machine sort of brought me here, I don’t even know where I am, hold on-” He held up his hand and sniffed the air a few seconds before snapping his fingers before staring at the other. “Oh wait! This is Asgard, isn’t it? Oh! It’s been ages since I’ve been here, so if this is Asgard then that means you’re… Loki! You’re Loki aren’t cha? Nice to meet you, I’m The Doctor.”
♔—- Of course, the God of Mischief wasn’t at all surprised that the Doctor knew of Asgard, though his means of identifying the place seemed... odd. Loki could identify scents just fine. His senses seemed to be heightened, even by Aesir standards. A Jotun thing, he assumed, but to identify a planet based on its smell alone? Loki could tell that The Doctor wasn’t a human or an Aesir by his scent, though what he was left him... baffled.
“So you’ve heard of me.” Whether that was a good or a bad thing, he didn’t know. “It’s... a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I’m sorry, did you say your name was The Doctor? Are you a healer by nature?” He glanced back at the blue police box sitting off behind the strange man and slowly turned a confused eye back to him. “And this... box brought you here? Almost all of those who pass into Asgard must come through the Bifrost. How is it that this box slipped in without even Heimdall seeing you coming?”

"look , you can't run away from you." for Val. / accepting. @othunderous
"Can't I?" Her hand propped on the bar, a beer bottle in the other, as she gazes out the entry door, half-lost in her own thoughts. Ever since Jane has crossed to Valhalla and saved the world as they knew it, the two of them have been taking Aegir and the goats through the Milky Way once every year; just in time for the migration of space dolphins.
He grieved, she knew, they both were, and this was one night out of the year that they spend together. To honor Jane, and to honor her sacrifice. Much ale was loaded onto the Viking ship for this occassion, and some great food, and the King loved to have a chance to just talk to Thor— away from people that needed them, both on New Asgard and in outer space.
"I've been a successful runaway for centuries before you decided to show up and reintroduce me to... duty." Her eyes trail up towards him, and she chuckles— the amusement apparent in her voice. If she was speaking the truth, the Valkyrie loved having a home and a renewed purpose... no matter how much it sucked being roped into bureaucracy and the politics of it all.
"And you're the one to talk. When was the last time you stayed in one place for too long?" She knows that his life is much different now, more than ever before; but she knows that Asgardians still miss him so, even though he technically resigned from being their leader. "What's your plan?"

A long and complex post detailing the differences between MCU Loki and my Loki, or: this one is a villain
While I do love MCU Loki — he is why I got into writing Loki in the first place — I set out to write a Loki that was different. Over the years, he’s grown and changed, and he will probably continue to evolve, but I wanted to write something down clarifying where he is at this current moment. It is subject to change, of course — that’s Loki’s nature.
1. This Loki is older, wiser, and far more villainous. While he may seem affable and likeable, there is a darkness underneath that he’s not afraid to tap into. As such, it’s wise not to antagonize him, because he’ll kill the antagonizer and they’ll have never seen it coming. (I saw a post the other day that summed it up, but basically, there’s a certain level of antagonizing that I’ll tolerate, but the way that Loki would respond would equal godmodding, and so if that continues to happen in a thread, I will just drop it).
2. He doesn’t regret many of his actions, only that they didn’t work out / that he got caught. He’s not searching for redemption, at least not in his main verse — in verse two, however, where he only rules Asgard/Jotunheimr, he’s a little softer and it could be argued he’s trying to do better. But mostly, he’s a god who one-hundred-percent believes he’s better than everyone. Mortal lives are fleeting to him, often inconsequential. For one to matter to him is monumental.
3. He cares deeply for his family, aka Thor, his parents, his children, and his partner. This is a fun thing to contrast with his darker, more villainous ways. He’s a lot of things, and many of them aren’t good, but he’s in no way a bad husband or father. Of course he wouldn’t let on to a stranger just how much he cares — then his family could easily become a target.
4. There are a very, very small handful of people that Loki would divulge his true thoughts, wants, and fears to. Part of how he keeps himself safe and has survived so long is by not letting people know what he wants — he’s a master of misdirection and secrecy. Even to his lovers/partners, he’d keep his true plans a secret. Basically, you’ll rarely — if ever — know what he’s thinking, and he sure won’t give hints (unless I’ve written otherwise).
5. While the kingship is a complex thing, he’s been ruling over Midgard for a while. The average citizen would like him — in terms of rights/advancements/environmental issues, etc., Loki would have propelled Midgard a thousand years forward. By eliminating individual governments (he would still have representatives/liaisons that he would put in charge to represent him in individual countries), he’s solely in charge. He’d be the kind of person that is resentfully appreciated and liked, because he will have delivered so many dreams/promises in one fell swoop.
6. Something I keep running into is this…situation where a muse less powerful than him (most muses tbh) refuses to acknowledge that a) he is king and b) he is murderous and c) he doesn’t care and will kill said muse if he’s annoyed. A muse does not have to like that he’s king, of course, but he would be nonetheless.
7. Loki is a bad guy, but he’s not a bad guy. The best way to approach him is very cautiously.
tl;dr — Loki is dangerous, he is King, it’s impossible to know what he thinks/wants, and he’s a villain but not a bad guy.

Chapter 3: Verse 3
Chapter warnings: math, fantastic racism, death (not graphic)
Chapter summary: the orders
Previous chapter, AO3, next chapter
If I'm a pagan of the good times / my lover's the sunlight
Loki storms the library once again, this time searching everything about the Tesseract and this Entropy they call him all the time.
Entropy still remains a mystery, but there are even more writings about the space stone than the ones they've seen before.
"It says here that they worshipped you," Loki says, but only internally. He's in public, speaking to the walls would make him appear mad.
"People express loyalty in different ways," they answer, always softer since the deal.
"Is that what you want? Loyalty?"
"Among other things, yes. But mostly trust that I will not hurt you, cause I won't," they promise. Loki already knows this.
Can't break something that's already in pieces.
"Brother!" Thor yells as he walks in. Loki's shoulders tense, this idiot never warns them.
"Tho-thor," he answers, eyes on Thor as they drab a chair and side beside him. "How come you be i-i-in here? You ha-ha-hate books," they raise an eyebrow at their brother.
"I'm here to see how you're doing. You've been acting oddly lately," he answers, those blue eyes scanning Loki.
"People grie-grie-grie-grieve in different ways, Th-thor. I a-a-a-assure you, I'm fi-fine," he hums, turning back to the book.
"Loki. After all this, just remember that I'm here for you, eh? You needn't face anything alone," Thor insists, placing a big and steady hand on Loki's shoulder.
Loki's body nods, and smiles, watching as Thor smiles back before leaving. Loki's mind wonders if this is all a mistake. Thor was, is grieving too. Maybe this is all too much…
But Thor wasn't there when Gæirasson offended Loki, neither time. In fact, Thor has been a ghost since Frigga's death.
"You have my trust and loyalty, until the end," Loki decides, feeling in their core how relieved the Tesseract is by the answer.
"Allow me to show you another secret then. Look at your hands but don't touch anything and don't let it spread," they answer.
Loki lets the book and brings his torn from the picking hands under the table, always watching them. Black ropes start appearing and tangling themselves on their fingers, creating a calming sensation and demanding more ground, but Loki doesn't allow it. Out of all kinds of magic, this is by far the most powerful one he has ever seen.
And the most chaotic.
To keep the Goddess on my side / she demands a sacrifice
Like every day, the official Tesseract session is late at night, while Loki should be sleeping. Signs of their decreasing amount of sleep are becoming more and more visible, but they don't care.
"The o-orders?" he asks.
"You need to know some things first. In order to keep you from dying, King Laufey made a deal with one of us. Your life for acts of service. You need to do some things before being free," they do speak like they did on the first days, but somehow still softer.
"Acts of s-s-service?" he questions. So, the stone just needs hands and will borrow theirs?
"Yes. There are things that will keep the stones safe from those who seek them to do harm. Asgard has two, and you need to make sure that some things are set to their protection. It's just one thing, really. But you need to use your new powers to do so,"
Loki nods, the movement small and cut, like a soldier's.
"Ready to-to comply,"
Drain the whole sea / get something shiny
"First order. Free yourself from everything, good and bad," the Tesseract says. Loki blinks in confusion.
"H-how?"
"What bad do you carry into you? The possessiveness, the jealousy, this ego you named pride, all this fury… you don't need them from now on. Let them go," they insist.
"L-let them go?"
"Act as if they don't exist, don't give them your attention. The same thing goes for your bright side. You faith in your moral compass, your deep feeling for everything you care about. Both of those sides will keep you from moving on. You mustn't listen to them anymore," they explain, as if it's something easy.
"So… y-y-you want me to be-to be your li-little m-m-minion?" he raises an eyebrow. Is that what they agreed on? Being a tiny pawn but just on a different chess board?
“No. Not exactly. You are not to abandon them for my own good, but for yours. The acts might hurt these sides of you, you need them in one piece,” their voice softens.
Loki takes a breath, in and out as slow as possible, and nods again. “What-what sh-sh-should I-I do?” even though the stutter stays, he refuses to let his voice break.
They swear they can feel the stone smiling.
“Listen to me, and don’t act upon them. Also, learn how to control possibility magic,”
Possibility magic? Is that what the black ropes are?
“Learn how Midgardians think of possibilities. It’s close to how your new abilities work,” they advise him. So, this is what being under the orders of a stone is like? Homework and pretending? it’s nothing they don’t know how to do for hundreds of years…
“And after the-the week?”
“the fun starts.”
Loki smiles wide, wider than he has ever smiled even before Frigga’s death.
something meaty for the main course / that’s a fine looking high horse
The week passes peacefully. Loki doesn’t have to worry about how to do what, the Tesseract is there to help them with it and lets them just decide how to do what and, oddly enough, the Midgardian science was calming.
At least, more calming than war theory. And less graphic.
He was chilling on the training grounds and working on the newfound magic, until the Tesseract came.
“It’s time,” they say moments before a blinding blue light covers Loki.
With the blink of an eye, they’re at a castle’s yard, hiding behind a bush.
“Prevent the war, you know how,” the Tesseract says again.
On the contrary, Loki has no idea where he is and what he has to do.
At least not until a guard passes by, near the bush, their armour bearing Gæirasson's symbol.
They smirk, moving from shadow to shadow and into the castle, where they cast an invisibility spell to navigate without worrying about getting caught.
What you've got in the stable? / We've a lot of starving faithful
In the grand hall, Loki finds the old lord. They're discussing an attack, in which he is the main character, of course. They're to strike tomorrow evening.
Loki has to hold himself not to laugh. Instead, they sit and wait. Wait until Gæirasson ends the council and heads to their bedroom. And Loki follows. Until the corridors make a room, with six doors to navigate through.
It would be such a shame if they suddenly closed shut, locking the two foes inside.
The old fool chuckles. "I know you're here, Frost Giant. I can smell your people's blood," he looks around.
Loki chuckles back and drops the spell, standing right in front of the man.
"Is it this? Or do your aged joins hurt with the cold?" he titles his head, showing his signature mischievous smile.
"Why are you here? To negotiate? We've been past this part," they growl. Loki doesn't break the smirk, but lets a glow pass their eyes. Green, but with icy blue undertones, and a pitch black shadow.
"No. We are here to talk about monsters. For, as you can smell, the blood of my siblings who you slained are screeching for it"
That looks tasty / that looks plenty / this is hungry work
"Do you know anything of my people's belief regarding the Norns?" Loki asks, circling around the man like a predator waiting to strike.
"Why should I care about the opinions of monsters?" he spits, trying to mimic the glare.
"Oh, because it's interesting. We believe in the norns, like you do. But they don't create the strings, they knit them. Twisting and turning and combining and separating people, and letting us choose where to go on each knot. Fascinating. Oddly enough, the mortals have a similar way of thinking, at least the ones who are closer to science. They name it possibilities, and write it with numbers,
"Let me give you an example. There's a fifty percent possibility that I will continue this conversation with my normal face," Loki speaks, letting the Æsir glamour fade and rising to his Jötunn height. "But I won't choose this path because your ceilings are low and I would have to bend my neck," they continue, after walking a few steps and letting their horns scratch the ceiling. The glamour appears again, bringing him to his Æsir skin.
"And there's always the possibility that you die, because of your old age and the stress of the war you created. And the only reason people remember you is as an example of why not to piss me off," he grins, the black ropes tangling around his wrists.
"And the possibility, in Midgardian terms, is one hundred percent," they leap closer and grab the old man by his collar, staring right into the fear in his eyes.
"I have a message for my people in Hel, deliver it when you see them. Tell them to rip this old cunt apart, yet keep one piece for me for when I arrive," he spits, watching as the ropes tangle around their throat and mummify them in front of his eyes, making the fear and anger burn out.
They throw the corpse on the floor and open the doors as the Tesseract casts another light, revealing Loki's chambers as it fades away.
"You shouldn't have scratched the ceiling with your horns," they say, worried.
"And? I laughed at the face of one old fool already, what's a second one? And if I am to join my family, let at least my exit from the hypocrites be dramatic," he laughs, ready for the guards to storm in and take him to the dungeons.

New Muse
Name: Eric Lokison
Age; verse dependent but main is 15-19
Home: Avengers Compound
Father: Loki, god of mischief
Mother: Sigyn, goddess of fidelity
Special Skills: Magical abilities
Background: Son of the Lord of Lies and Lady of Faith, Eric Lokison has never actually seen Asgard. But he has always held himself as a prince and a conquerer. His name means King Eternal and he fully believes he will rule Asgard one day.
Sigyn got pregnant with him while she was hiding as a human working at Stark Industries. Fearful that she and her son would be hurt for her husband’s crimes, she made a deal for amnesty. She could remain as a Stark employee but FRIDAY would be monitoring her to make sure she wasn’t trying to communicate with Loki or put any Earth threatening plans into place.
Her son was sent to live and train with the rest of the young Avengers at the Avengers compound. The hope being that if he lives among mortals, he won’t want to control the Earth. While he doesn’t hate mortals, Eric isn’t overly fond of them either. His mother is allowed supervised visits every other week.
Eric bonded with Olivia over not having parents there when you might want them most. Even if he does have a much better relationship with his mother than Olivia does with hers. He’s currently dating Madeline Stark. Both because he likes her and because it pisses off her father.
Eric is prideful and arrogant, often seeing himself as above others. But he does have friends at the school and he is loyal to them to the very end. He loves to play pranks and will get in trouble for his magic usage. But in the end, he is a very good person to have on your side.

What do you think Thor's relationship is like with the Asgardians once they've all settled in New Asgard? How do you think he " rules " ( or maybe doesn't! ) them?
give me meta topics to write on
i love that someone with a valkyrie blog asked me this question. just because i have thoughts on him ruling and not ruling and i never want to step on any toes when it comes to valkyrie and being king.
after thanos snaps away half the population of anywhere i can’t imagine that the relationship is anywhere close to good once they set up in new asgard and its not really their fault. thor is the one that shuts himself away and descends on this path of self destruction. everyone probably tried for weeks or months to get through to him but one can only waste so much energy on those that don’t want to be saved. he doesn’t feel he deserves it. it’s all a form of self punishment . pushing everyone way. locking himself up alone with korg and miek .
the weight of it all really did just fall all on brunnehilde’s shoulders. where my views of endgame differ from that of canon is that even though he fell into a deep dark pit of depression , to me it was still ooc that he just ups and leaves all of his people after everything he’d done to try and save them. in MY CANON and seemingly a main verse for endgame he doesn’t leave and stays behind to rule the way he was meant to. he wants to finally make things right now that he can start to heal and be himself again. ( or depending he can HELP rule with valkryie. ) like i said i don’t want to step on toes since she did take up the mantle when he was too damaged to do it on his own.
honestly, he may be king but he doesn’t ‘rule’ anyone. he’s there for guidance and to take kingly duties , but on new asgard they all seem to just work together and do what they must to get back to some semblance or normalcy.

Tess Stone
STONE: Space Stone (Tesseract)
FC: Alexis Bledel
GUARDS: Steve Rogers and Loki Odinson
POWER: teleportation
ORIENTATION: we’re talking about a timeless entity; they literally couldn’t care less. If they’re into you, they’re into you
MAIN VERSE: canon-divergent; post-Avengers: Infinity War
INFO:
Honorary oldest sextuplet. Started this crap – or at least feels responsible for it all – but is also very tired of it all. Must protect Steve because she feels he doesn’t know how to do it himself. Didn’t mean to fall in love with the idiot, but here she is. Also helps Milo corral Loki because a) her brother takes on too much, and b) some people – like a god of mischief – can validify having two protectors. Charts the stars to relax.
VERSES:
PRE-CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER:
No one wanted to admit that they’re spoiled, but these days, Tess found it easier to say as she looked back on her life. As she looked back, she saw that she had been able to spend long stretches of her life in the same place, generally comfortable and truly at home, and that wasn’t a luxury afforded to most of her siblings.
From the beginning of time, Tess lived on Asgard, the Realm Eternal. It was easier, after all, to be connected to people with longer lifespans. On Asgard, if they were good people, she wouldn’t lose them as soon, and if they were evil… It was still Asgard, and a warrior culture, and the evil would be vanquished, and Tess could move on with her life. Up until second century AD, she lived in her human form as a respected member of society.
But Asgard was a warrior culture, and there were downsides to that, and the time came when the enemies of Asgard came for her. Borr, the current king, sent her away, to Norway in Midgard, with her current protectorate. One of their enemies followed, though, and killed the warrior to whom Tess was bound. In turn, she banished the murderer and, with those who protected the temple where they’d landed, Tess saw to it that her friend was given a resting place befitting his status. Struggling with guilt and a sense of failure, she found herself bound to the Midgardians of the Norwegian temple. Her guilt abated with time. She spent the next nine hundred years living as a Midgardian in the temple, exploring the country and protecting the people of the surrounding towns, but never letting anyone outside of the temple know how powerful she really was.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER:
But then came WWII, and Johann Schmidt, and the longest and most difficult years of Tess’s life. As the town she’d come to love was destroyed, those in the temple urged her into hiding. Helpless against their wishes, she used her powers to get inside the casket of the Asgardian warrior and, as a stone, waited for them to leave.
But when they did leave, it was only once the town and temple, and her friends, were destroyed – once she was in the hands of a madman. She never dared change into her human form while under Schmidt’s control. He had reeked enough havoc with her powers without discovering her shapeshifting and trying to delve deeper into all he could do with her. So she sat in her stone form for years, waiting for someone to come along that she could connect herself to in place of Schmidt.
Steve Rogers was the one who came, and Tess happily – and literally – tossed Schmidt into space in favor of Captain America. She sent Schmidt to her brother, Solomon’s, last known location, knowing that Solomon’s presence – and unavailability – would drive Schmidt even more mad, while she hoped that Schmidt’s presence would drive Solomon out of his self-imposed exile. She had no way of knowing how that went for decades, though, because she crashed into the Arctic alongside Captain Rogers first.
AVENGERS:
For decades she waited, content to remain near the captain in her stone state. Until SHIELD found her and brought her back out of the ocean to study her. Still nothing happened… until she began to feel restless, began to feel a pull on her power, a pull towards connecting to another being. But she wanted to keep her connection to Steve, so she begrudgingly opened herself to a second connection, soothed only by the fact that she felt her brother, Milo, nearby. Loki Odinson. Then Loki came, using her powers to open a portal from a deep corner of space to Midgard. Then New York was destroyed, and with it, so many Midgardian lives.
She blamed herself. After all, she could’ve fought Loki harder, could’ve held out longer against letting Loki onto Midgard. She had literally opened the gates for this to happen.
At the end of the day, Thor took her, and Loki, and returned them both to Asgard. She was back on her first home realm, and her connection to Loki, tenuous though it was, helped soothe the ache of being so far removed from Steve. It felt like a reward that she had done less than nothing to deserve. Yet Asgard was a much-changed place from the days of Borr and the Valkyrie. Borr’s son, Odin, struck a deal with her – the kindest thing she could hope for; she could live as an Asgardian among his people, but if ever trouble approached Asgard, she was to turn herself over to the guards of the weapons’ vault, transform into the stone, and stay there until the trouble passed. She took the deal without a second thought.
POST-THOR: THE DARK WORLD:
A few more years passed, and practically out of the blue, Odin summoned her to his throne room. Only… it was not Odin. The man on the throne looked like Odin, but Tess knew when she was near Loki. He quizzed her, innocently, it seemed, ultimately to see if she knew who he was, and she, inwardly baffled, led him on. Until she knew what was happening, she would do her best to go along with whatever Loki appeared to want. She was a teleporter, not a mind-reader, but she tried to figure out the answers he wanted, and she must’ve done a good enough job of it, because he dismissed her from the throne room without incident.
Unsure what else she could do without raising the new king’s suspicions, Tess went back to her life as normal.
THOR: RAGNAROK:
Much as the destruction wrought by Hela worried her, she even kept to the deal she’d made with Odin, and when Ragnarok came, she went into hiding in the weapons’ vault. Until Ragnarok was almost over, when Loki took her aboard Asgard’s get-away ship.
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR:
Their safety lasted all of an hour and felt exactly like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. The Titan came, already bearing Tess’s sister, Olivia, in a gauntlet. He killed half of what remained of Asgard and took Tess away from Loki. By all appearances, Thanos even killed Loki, but Tess knew the trickster and his illusions, and she could still feel the connection between them even as Thanos took her further away from the Jotun. But the destruction of the Asgardians’ ship was just the beginning of her horrific time with Thanos. One by one, he rounded up the rest of her siblings, leaving a clear path of destruction in his wake – but the Stones worked just as hard amongst themselves. They came up with a plan, with tricks and illusions of their own… and in the end, they won. They tricked Thanos, and trapped him, and put the universe back to rights.
POST-AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR:
When the terror was over, and the proverbial sea was relatively calmed, Tess revealed her human form to Steve, and decided to follow him – on the run, onto the next adventure, she couldn’t say she minded either way. She’d been near Loki long enough that she trusted him to be able to take care of himself. Besides, Milo was still watching over him, and in a pinch they could both sweep in to help him out if needed. He would be fine, and she could go with Steve, and so she did, come what may.
