little do either of you know, the mic's still on by accident, and 6 months later, the web blows up when someone posts an isolated clip from the backing track of your song -- its very clearly you -- moaning and whining, the sound tapering into a sweet little laugh.

and then a woman's sultry voice saying --

again and again, fandoms do this same shit dude. points to my very large 'you can be pissed at a characters actions and not really like them as a person and still enjoy their character without having to excuse what they're doing' sign. like I was just dealing with this shit with Curly Mouthwashing and now its the same thing with Cait Arcane.

watching the first 3 eps, she was legitimately pissing me off. its supposed to. media is supposed to make you FEEL things and convey a message. I love Caits character a lot and really enjoy her writing, but people legitimately just going 'yass get ur revenge girl, reasonable crashout' is hurting my fucking brain.

Like do you not understand that Vi's parents dying due to unreconciled oppression from enforcers is not the same thing at all as Cait's parent (the. oppressor.) being killed in rebellion ?? and Cait comparing those two things and acting like how she is now is fucking ridiculous. and her trying to mold Vi into someone 'civil' because shes 'not like those other filthy stupid undercity dwellers' is fucked up and toxic.

Does it make sense for her character? Yes! Did I enjoy the writing? YES. And I hope they don't backtrack and just magically fix things because i love the tension and the angst. But its fucking stupid and she pisses me off. That doesn't mean I 'cant handle' her character. She's just becoming an antagonist. Like oh my god, can people stop just blindly standing by every single decision a character they like does and try to excuse it all? characters being morally grey makes them interesting, don't piss me off.

my current opinion on aegon blackfyre is that dany will convince herself he is a blackfyre pretender and jon will remain convinced he actually is rhaegar’s son and we will never know the truth, it will stay completely vague with circumstantial evidence on both sides to back up both jon and dany’s feelings about it and that is the most narratively satisfying route for aegon as a character.

If I had a penny for every book about a boy of noble birth who watched his whole family be killed in front of him and narrowly avoided death himself, ran away and hid in an orphanage before someone unaware of his true identity recruits him into the regime that murdered his family (said regime presents the idea of everyone being equal while in reality being deeply flawed) and now has to work alongside people who would likely kill him if they knew who he really was, I’d have two pennies, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

My honest reaction to act II

for the record I'm keeping my #arcane and #arcane critical tags separate because 1) it's rude to go into a show's main tag to complain about it and 2) this way I can still go into the arcane tag on my own blog to enjoy season 1 stuff without being perpetually disappointed by season 2

thinking back on Vitalasy, and how he seemed to be creating a character that is faced with unlimited power, caves to that power, but ultimately decides to not to become fully evil.

And how when you simplify that, it makes sense? But that wasn't the experience of watching s4.

Just, like. I just saw that fanart of Vi tormenting Planet in the prison. And it got me thinking.

It's like he was planning on showing the descent and then dramatically revealing that it was all part of the character development.

And that works when it's scripted? Like how Parrot descended closer and closer to Clown's mentality in that one uu video and as he did more and more evil it was like, woah he doesn't realize how much he's like clown! i wonder what he will do when he does realize!

But in an unscripted story your actions are taken at face value as being the only actions the matter for today because today is all that matters because the future is entirely unknown.

And so the buck stops at today.

And that stream was just so evil. (and awesome i fucking love that stream) But he exited it not realizing at that moment how evil it was, it was all still a question, a hypothetical, i have unlimited power, what do I do with it? Because it wasn't time to let it go. It wasn't time yet to reveal good intentions.

And it just made him look so much more evil. And every time he used the exploit he looked more and more deranged and disconnected from reality. How could you say you're good when you're actively doing something illegal?

And faced with so much backlash from the players, how could it not hurt when the vision isn't being seen? And so the pivot point moved forward and forward and forward and suddenly he was giving up the power as a desperate plea to be received back in with good graces bc it was never meant to be ultimate evil.

i dunno. it's just so perpetually interesting.

The players on lifesteal resist "scripting" so much. Everything that resembles it is resoundingly attacked and destroyed. And it's not even a matter of the perpetuating member not "understanding" how lifesteal works bc having a plan is the basis of a youtube video and it's a content server.

But like, Mapicc and Zam betraying spoke during dupe war, Mapicc betraying Ro during the end portal trap, Mapicc resisting Vi and calling out the dissonance with his character, Mapicc (i'm starting to realize maybe it's just Mapicc's presence that causes this effect lol) carting everyone.

But also like Bacon resisting Vitalasy, Bacon Ro and Mapicc resisting pb&j in the meeting.

But on any other mcrp server, like in qsmp even, someone's dramatic character is accepted as just that - a character for the moment, doing lore as you do. They're handled and rp'ed with and it's never destroyed utterly.

But there's this intensity with Lifesteal that breaks the barrier of rp into like, you have to be yourself and make sense and be logical with your reasons, while also being like, I have silly reasons that are illogical because my character is flawed and isn't that fun. But "isn't that fun" is met with "I will destroy you because destruction is the fun of this server"
