“—Yes, well, it is remarkable the sort of mistakes people can make.” Especially when they have the motivation of Luthor money. Especially when, as he’s heard, all versions of oneself are made to fight for dominance in order to survive. (That being the case, he’s really not all that surprised that he’s the one that stands here now.) “But don’t worry Mr. Kent. I’m not here to ruin your…quaint little all-American life you’ve built for yourself. I just wanted to see if the rumors were true. We’ve both come a long way from Smallville, haven't we? But here you are again.”

"Of course I do, dear boy." His voice almost, almost, softens, as enough he's really no more than an old family friend stopping by for a long-overdue chat. After all, isn't that what they almost are? Well, maybe not quite. "Your family has always been of very special interest to me." He makes a note of Clark's threat. The boys, unsurprisingly, seem to be a sensitive spot. Good to know.
"Don't worry, Mr. Kent. I don't mean you or your family any harm. I come in peace." He even raises his hands, palms forward. "I don't want anything. I just came to visit. After all, I am an old man, Clark, and sometimes old men like to take a walk down memory lane, so to speak." (Now, whether any of that's true remains to be seen."
The mention of his boys makes Clark's blood run a little cold -- it's hard for him to interpret that statement as anything but a threat. He doesn't have the best track record with Luthors, in any universe.
"So you still keep tabs on my family. If you ever come near my sons, believe me -- that would be a mistake." His demeanor is still outwardly very calm, but there's an unexpected darkness underneath those words. He might be the big blue boy scout, but when it comes to his children, no holds are barred. "What do you want, Luthor?"

RUMORS OF LIONEL LUTHOR'S DEATH HAVE BEEN GREATLY EXAGGERATED.
because of course they were, right?
his family has fallen apart, and for years he's lived in isolation. finally, though, as lex and lana come from the woodwork to begin fighting each other for control of the company, of the world, their father decides it's time he steps in.
he'll show these children--all of them, his own, these caped heroes thinking they're anything, thinking they're better than the rest of the world--what it means to be a luthor.

"And yet, dear boy, here I am. Hence my comment on mistakes. Keep up. We don't want that brain of yours growing dull, now, do we?" Clark's eyes settle on him, and his eyes do not move from Clark. "You've grown up, haven't you? I even hear you have a couple of boys of your own." Even a simple observation manages to sound almost threatening coming from him, as though every piece of information learned is something stored away to be used later when it's most beneficial--which, of course, is exactly what happens. "And speaking of death, I was very sorry to hear about your mother." (Genuine? Yes. But he's baiting, too. Testing the waters to see what sort of man Clark Kent has become.)

Now there was a voice Clark had never thought he'd hear again. He'd thought the Luthors were out of his life for good -- all of them. But of course, the multiverse would never be so kind.
"Lionel Luthor." He turned slowly to take in the man across from him. "You're supposed to be dead."
