(warning: black sails spoilers)
every time I see a bad Miranda Hamilton take I have to try so so hard not to engage. I see so many people blatantly misunderstand her character or call her âannoyingâ (especially when talking about season 2 episode 9 and her rant at Peter) and it pains me so much. She is just as much forged by loss as Flint, she is just as traumatised. And, on top of it, she is expected to sit around and wait for deliverance, she isnât afforded the same opportunity to take matters into her own hands. Call her annoying all you want, but know that youâre wrong. Her rant in s2e9 is not unnecessary and itâs not overly emotional, itâs actually very fucking justified. Itâs one of the only times she actually breaks her cool, allows herself to be angry, and she is killed for it. Itâs a response to the revelation that Peter, once her friend, sold Thomas out for status, colluded behind their backs with Alfred fucking Hamilton to destroy their happiness. And he dares to claim it was a âcivilisedâ solution? So she says fuck your civilisation. Fuck your solutions. Fuck your pardons, your country, your empire. It should all burn for what youâve done. And donât miss the connotations of burning: purifying, cleansing, starting fresh. You know who else was being âpurifiedâ? Thomas. Rotting in a mental hospital for being queer.
She has every right to be angry. And it makes sense that she is killed for it, as empire cannot abide any challenge to its official narrative. The mere fact of her raised voice is enough to condemn her to death, yet she and Flint are treated as monstrous for their killing of Alfred Hamilton. The man who destroyed their lives and orchestrated their tragedy.
So fuck your takes. Iâm so so fed up of people talking about her as if sheâs just some irritating tag along. She is integral to the showâs message, and in this particular episode, Flintâs realisation that empire is not the answer. He learns that, whilst he is villainised for his use of violence in service of a noble goal, empire is allowed to practice violence with no consequences. It takes Miranda from him just as it took Thomas from them both.

i cannot emphasize this enough but you really need to kill the cop in your brain for a variety of reasons but especially in regards to the way that you view unhoused people. the EXTREME vast majority of the people that you see on the street are not going to cause you any harm and you need to start viewing them as human beings. i already know there are people who are going to come at me in the notes about protecting yourself in the streets and like sure being vigilant irt being aware of your surroundings is like. common sense. but the average unhoused person is not going to cause you any real harm and the fact that you view people on the street as imminent threats before recognizing their humanity and the ways in which the system has failed many people out there says a lot about the way you think about class and politics

Our Coverage of Trump's Anti-Trans Executive Orders
What will the executive orders from Trump's first 24 hours in power actually do?
Debunking every part of Trumpâs gender-affirming care executive order.
Trumpâs attacks on gender-affirming care for trans youth will be challenged in the courts.
How can you stay organized and prepared when going through the hellish process of updating your documents as a trans person right now?
Why does Trump want to remove trans people from the military?
Trump's education EO takes its cues from state laws like Floridaâs Stop WOKE Act, attempting to prevent kids from learning about racism and "gender ideology" in favor of ahistorical patriotism.

You know you've fucked up when you go to a doctor and the thing you have wrong with you has been named after an occupation that isn't a thing anymore. Like imagine a doctor looking at you and going "yeah you've got ox-drawn ploughman's disease. We don't even test for that anymore. Yeah the reason you've never heard of it is because the last known case was in 1927 and happened to some guy who was like 98 years old and didn't believe in modern medicine of the time. What the fuck have you been up to."

There's a lot of misinformation about gender-affirming care out there â and not just in the right-wing media! Mainstream allegedly liberal pubs like The New York Times and The Atlantic have won over plenty of leftists over the past few years. This is a great guide, inspired by Trump's absolutely evil Executive Order attempting to ban gender-affirming care for youth, for people (especially cis people) who want to arm themselves with accurate (and nuanced!) information to debate effectively with potential allies who've been misled elsewhere. I hope it can be helpful to you!

I was looking up tips for baiting cats because I need some help getting the current foster cat comfortable with the carrier, and a place with lots of these articles and tips are TNR sites (Trap Neuter Release)
Now, a term they like to use a lot is âcommunity catsâ in reference to strays that are shy but still comfortable coming near humans and are non aggressive, they like to talk about the special role these cats play in their community
Now another name for a community cat, I feel, is a cat that can be rehabilitated and adopted out to a family that will care for it. In fact of the 12 cats I have fostered, including this one, 6 have spent time as strays and after being given medical treatment for the various injuries and illnesses they get living outside, they will live with one of us volunteers for a bit to get used to people and then go to the shelter for further help and then are adopted out. Every cat I have fostered has been adopted and stayed adopted with that family
I get that cats that wander into your yard and let you feed them are cute. My aunt had 4 she fed, a mother and the three kittens that survived. Before the age of 5, two disappeared and were never seen again and one was found dead on her porch after eating something toxic somewhere and then going back to her place to sleep. Only 25% of the neighborhood cats, who had at least one person feeding them daily, survived past 5 years old. They were all TNRed and I bet the younger ones probably could have been rehabbed and adopted when they were caught young but nope they were let back outside and died painful deaths within a few years
Idk just, after fostering so many of that kind of cat and seeing them lose their fear and become very loving and happy and then going to a family, it bugs me when cats that are caught and have the chance to be helped are just put back outside to get hit by cars or die from eating rat poison with the idea that this is truly the best thing for them

What I find remarkably fascinating about the Norse is that they seemed to depend upon being in certain places to access certain kinds of thinking; they correlated âusing certain modalities of thoughtâ with âtraveling to a certain placeâ in their stories.
We actually still experience this phenomenon today. Ever wonder why you work more productively sitting in an office/coffee shop/library vs your bedroom or couch? Or how about when you walk into another room and forget what you came in there for, only to remember when you return to the other room?
Thereâs also the fact the Norse existed during a time when humanity hadnât developed the ability to read silently yet. I think itâs all super fascinating.
