That's the idea, yes. We can't promise that every writer will have an artist, but we'll do everything we can to make sure everyone is paired up.

Yes, I will need an email from anyone who signs up because it's the easiest way to connect artists, writers, and betas after they've been paired up. What I'd suggest for anyone who's concerned about sharing personal information is to create an email address specifically for this event.

Yes everything is allowed so long as everything is properly tagged. The mods and I can both help out with tagging for anyone who needs help.

Do I need discord to take part? Because I use the web browser version, but I broke my tablet and the browser isn't working on my phone.

Is there a set story that we have to follow for this work? Or is it something like a Oneshot collection?

So joining the discord server will be a requirement because that’s where I send out all of the important announcements, however weather or not you stay active in the server is entirely up to you. I’ll send out announcements in the server on or around important scheduled dates (I’ll be posting an event schedule here in the next few days) so i’d just recommend checking in every once in a while so you don’t miss anything. The link to the server will be at the bottom of the sign up forms when the times comes.

And no, there is not a set story for this. Writers will come up with a promt and post them annomysly in our discord for artists to choose from and then from there writers and artists are paired up together to create a collaborative work that will be posted on an agreed upon date. All works will be posted in a tadcbigbang collection on ao3! Writers are allowed to write whatever they want given that it’s tadc and meets the 8k word minimum.

Would it be possible to join as both an artist and a writer or both a writer and a beta? (etc)

Yes, absolutely! Just keep in mind that this is a collaborative event between artists and writers, so if you bite off more than you can chew, you'll be leaving your partner(s) high and dry.

Sorry if the question is redundant, but what does a beta do?

It's not at all!! A beta reader is someone who goes through, reads, and edits a writer's work when they're done writing. How thorough they are usually depends on the writer's preferences.

FAQ'S

What is a Big Bang? It’s a collaboration challenge between writers and artists to produce a long fic with accompanying artwork. This BB will be run on Tumblr, discord, and AO3. All updates will be posted here, and the fic will be hosted on AO3. If you’ve never used AO3 before and need an invite to sign up, please send us a message! You can reach us on this blog or at our mods’ personal blogs at @rumoredtoexist and @SquiishiiChaos 

How It Works Writers sign up to write a minimum of 8,000 words (no maximum). You get a few months to work on the story; about halfway through, you need to submit a rough draft and summary. These summaries get posted anonymously, and artists will be able to claim a story to create art for. Once writers and artists are matched up, they’ll receive each other’s contact details so the writer can send their artist a copy of their WIP and collaborate from there. Artist and writer pairs will pick a date together to post their work during the posting period. When posting time comes, works will be hosted on AO3 in a TADC big bang collection that will be created when the time comes. Art can be posted separately on the artist’s platform of choice or embedded into the fic. There will be more information on posting nearer the time.

Am I allowed to sign up as both an author and an artist? Absolutely!

When do I start writing? As soon as you’ve signed up!

What are the fic requirements? Big Bangs have an 8,000 word minimum requirement; there is no maximum. All fic are expected to have proper formatting with line breaks and spacing. Betas are required. There will be beta sign-ups, so we can help you if you need one.

I have a WIP already. Can I finish that for the big bang? It’s recommended that you don’t. We encourage you to write new fics in the spirit of the challenge. However, if you already have a WIP that is less than 25% of your finished work, was recently started, and has not been shared anywhere yet, we’ll let you use it.

Can I post a sequel to another of my fic? You can write sequels to already-existing fic, provided it can also be read as a standalone fic.

I want to join, but I don’t know how to participate.

What kind of art is accepted? We will accept any kind of art, including but not limited to traditional drawings, digital drawings, fanvideos, podfic, and edits. If you want to do something that isn’t listed and you’re unsure whether it’s allowed, please don’t hesitate to ask!

What are the art requirements? All we ask is for you to put as much effort into your artwork as your author has into their fic.

I’m an artist/writer and my friend is a writer/artist, can we sign up as a pair? No, sorry. The idea of the challenge is to encourage new partnerships and allow people the opportunity to get fic/art even if they don’t have any ‘contacts.’

What pairings/themes are allowed? We will accept anything and everything. If you are creating a work that features graphic depictions of violence, major character death, rape/non-con, or underage sexual context, we ask that you use appropriate warnings when posting. If your work contains a theme that isn’t listed, and you are unsure whether it needs a warning, please ask.

Are crossovers or fusions allowed? Absolutely! We only ask that the work focus mainly on the AFTG characters.

What is a check-in? It’s just an informal way of seeing how you’re doing! You don’t need to submit anything, but we’ll ask you to let us know if you’re still in, and will also post some motivational stuff to keep us all going.

What if I’m busy or don’t have internet access during a check-in/when drafts are due? If you’re busy or know you won’t have an internet connection for a check-in, you can shoot me or squish a dm on Discord or Tumblr before the scheduled check-in, and we’ll get it sorted. 

I don’t have an AO3 account; how do I get one? Send us a message with the email you want to sign up with, and we will send you one. If you are an artist and you plan on embedding your art into the writer’s AO3 post, you don’t need to have one.

Is there a discord I can join? Yes! It is completely mandatory to join the discord, but the link will be sent out to everyone once they sign up through email.

What is the time period to participate?

Are you sure you'll have enough artists?

That's a great question! Unfortunately, we can't guarantee that every writer will be paired with an artist. However, I will do everything I can to ensure everyone gets paired with someone. (And vice versa, we may end up with more artists than writers) Right now, though, I'm confident we'll have enough people to have an even number of pairs. I ran an interest poll on my personal account and had some overwhelming results, so as of right now I'm not worried.

Is this event limited to specific ships, or is it open to all ships?

This event is open to everything! There are no limitations as long as everything is tagged properly on both writing and art.

So yes, all ships and themes are allowed.
