I came across another video about straight guys getting tricked into reading danmei by the title/plot etc. and the comments have some anecdotes that I had to share lol (original Chinese comments under cut):
Tian Guan Ci Fu [facepalm] [thumbsup] I always thought it was about an entanglement between ghost repaying a kindness and a two-faced god. My female classmates saw this novel on my desk at the time and giggled at me [facepalm] [facepalm] [facepalm] (109k likes)
Once, I saw my 45 year old male coworker reading Mo Dao Zu Shi, I even told him, you have this broad a taste in books? In the end he read half of it and suddenly asked me why it hadn't revealed that the main character was a woman disguised as a man yet [laughcrying] (80k likes)
"I Became a God in a Horror Game" This novel I never thought would be a dual male lead [i.e. BL] novel, after I found out I dropped it. At the time, I searched all the big websites to prove it wasn't dual male lead and prove that their relationship is brotherly, but every piece of information, every person refuted me. Do you guys know how helpless I felt at the time?!!! After I found out it was danmei, there was no way of going back to how it was before and I couldn't read any more!!! Do you guys know, in the end I switched to "Lord of Mysteries" [fantasy webnovel] (115k likes)
Do you know when you project yourself onto the protagonist conquering everyone, and right when you're feeling satisfied, you suddenly find out you now have an additional boyfriend, that feeling... (35k likes)
Who would've thought, the first time I saw "Kaleidoscope of Death" I thought it was Naruto fanfiction so I read a bit of it, then I found out it was a horror novel, but the male and female leads really suit my taste, so I read some more, then I found out later [the ML] was a man disguised as a woman, and the sky fell down [crying] [crying] [crying] In the end I forced myself to finish reading it, the instances were just too well-written [crying] [crying] [crying] (11k likes)
Seriously, straight guys can even misunderstand kissing as provocation between bros (30k likes)

Your process video is so cool! Can I ask what pen(?) you use for your orange base sketch?
Thank you so much!
I often use the Pilot Color Eno mechanical pencils with coloured lead.
I have a couple of reasons for this.
I don't like erasing my sketches after inking because too much friction may alter the watercolor paper surface which may cause issues later on when applying paint such as bleeding or otherwise uneven application. One way to avoid this if you do erase your sketches is to use a kneadable eraser and gently rolling it accross the paper so that it picks up the excess graphite/lead.
Graphite smudges more easily and I don't like how it can dull some colours. The coloured lead does bleed a bit when water is applied, but I usually try to pick a colour that fits the overall image so the lead becomes part of the painting.
I don't do this often but you can separate parts of a complex piece by using a few different colours.
I just think they're neat (and I happened to find a bunch of that coloured lead on a sale years ago and I still haven't had to restock lol.)
Hope this helps!

the idea that you can buy milk at the grocery store seems just so self evident. it's hard to imagine the time before pasteurization and refrigeration were common, when the milkman would come by your house every morning and lactate into a bottle for you.

As we see a barrage of evil executive orders come in, they are not immediately enforceable and will takes months or years to implement.
That’s still not great, but don’t let these pile up to the point of hopelessness. Take a breath, and look community leaders who will fight it every step of the way.

i hate ~professional phonecalls in full generality but like, listen. i understand being on hold for a zillion years. i know places are shortstaffed. i get it. however i think i should not have to navigate more than 1 phone tree submenu in order to get to the point of being on hold. i was going to compare this to a labyrinth but i think that would be more fun and less stressful honestly. yes even with a minotaur

The best thing I've ever seen while driving was when I was racing across Idaho on my roadtrip to get home when suddenly my gps out of nowhere tells me that I can save an hour and a half by taking a detour. I had no idea why. I was in the middle of a pretty rural part of the state and twilight was setting in and the road looked clear, but holy shit, 90 minutes? I had no idea how or why this detour would do that but I took it anyways and got off the main interstate onto a frontage road.
About 2 minutes of driving later revealed VERY abrupt traffic backed up for miles. I had gotten off the interstate at the exact right and last moment. Everyone was pissed off and angry, so it seemed new. And here me and like three other cars were, racing past and completely skipping the traffic they were suddenly stuck in. There was no movement. Only traffic. I could feel their envy as I drove by wondering what the fuck was going on.
I fully expected there to have been a huge accident. Something like a head on collision. But then about four miles down the road, I see it. A tipped over truck, and thousands upon thousands of tiny brown potatoes still rolling across the road.
The driver was outside, his head in his hands, looking very much alright but appropriately stressed out, and behind him was miles of angry traffic caused by truck tipping over and dumping thousands of potatoes onto the asphalt. A potato spill. In Idaho. The state only known for potatoes. It still makes me laugh thinking about it.

Are YOU gonna let THE GOVERNMENT tell YOU what YOUR GENDER is? That doesn't sound like Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness to me! PROTECT your individual FREEDOMS and call your senator: we want the GOVERNMENT to stay OUT OF OUR PANTS! GENDER FREEDOM NOW!

Good luck to all the Americans on Rednote that'll be experiencing Chinese-style censorship for the first time, especially since they'll have to rely entirely on translation...
Also I really hope they use some critical thinking which, considering that they're coming from TikTok, uhhh because you should not just believe people when they tell you things like there's no racism in China. Come on
#americans have no fucking concept of other countries not having free speech#speaking as an American who was shocked when I first learned about the way things work in China#“what do you MEAN you can get in LEGAL TROUBLE for having a political opinion??”#<- Past Tabby being naive as fuck#this isn't intended as an actual answer to OP's rhetorical question ftr#I ask myself this every day#my fellow Americans can be such fucking dumbasses about shit like racism HERE#I am dissapointed but not surprised that they're dumbasses about racism in China too#ugh#thinking out loud

Do people not realize that RedNote is a propaganda platform?
Just, it’s a platform that’s designed to only show you good and wholesome content.
It sounds like a great idea, but it also means that you’ll never see the whole picture. You’ll never get those expose-like videos like you did on TikTok. You’ll never get the “this is how you should stand up for your rights” content on there. And you sure as hell won’t get anything less than the standard“China is the greatest country with thousands of years of history” propaganda-y lines in all of the Chinese-based videos you see.
“The internet lied to us about China, they’re so friendly and so welcoming” yeah they are, but it’s also partly because you can’t see anything else. It’s Censorship Central over there on RedNote, and you are getting fed Party-approved content like it’s 1930s Germany.
#ppl in the replies on this post are like “maybe chinese ppl just like to post”#and I'm like lol lmao yes#like anyone else they like to post#but if they post things that the CCP does not like#you will not see it#it isn't about the individual citizens necessarily being propaganda machines#it's about the people who set the rules about what can and can't be seen on the app
