With Tribal Valeena, I think the tribal set is complete? We got the main team, Jinmay, SR, and now the villian trio. Who else is there to feature from the main cast? Sakko? Sun Riders? Scrapperton? Actually, Skeleton Droid shows up more than twice... but like, can Skeleton Droid be considered a character... I hope I'm not missing someone painfully obvious :/

Tribal Valeena

Valeena isn’t in the calendar, but I had her planned out when making Skeleton King, so fuck it, here she is :P

I didn’t think something would beat the badassery of Skeleton King’s bone cloak, yet here is Valeena, boldly challenging that claim with skull hair!

Original plan was to have a pose that somewhat mirrors the one I used for Skeleton King, but as I was searching for color refs in the show, I came across a frame of her holding the crystal skull in the final episode. Thought that frame was too cool to NOT make a callback to it.

…Now I wish Skeleton King had a screenshot redraw pose, cuz both Mandarin and Valeena have it…

What can I say, skeletons make a badass aesthetic :P The greys not blending is a bit of an accident, as aaaall the colors in these tribals are colorpicked directly from the show, including the bg (I THINK they are the 2 darkest shades of grey from the monkey's metallic parts, I kinda forgot, rip)

I probably will get it done sometime, it'd be a shame to let the idea go to waste. Bone cloak is badass, but what about tentactle hairstyles made out of skull chains 🤔

I can’t believe THIS is my first time drawing SK… Wild to think about…

For the theme, I had 2 choices: bones or skulls. Almost made it bones only, as the guy is named Skeleton King, not Skull King, but then I was like… hmm… Skull Sorceress… What if I made them a mini set like the monkeys with the arm symbols…

At least that was the plan, as I was predicting Valeena next, turns out it’s OCs instead, and December is gonna be “a special one”… Yeah… Fuck.

To be completely fair, the lack of other symbols is about 90% the result of lack of ideas, rather than not-being-a-team-member. you didn't hear anything just now

A rather unique tribal art from the squad, as it’s a lowkey screenshot redraw. Pose is based directly on his introductory scene, cuz that scene is too badass to pass up.

Coming up with a theme was a little difficult, but once something hit, it was a jackpot. Knives. Cuz dude’s sharp in more ways than 1.

The claws do make him the odd one out of the group, but he is the odd one out in the show anyway, so I'm cool with it :P

The entire series oozes symbolism with the shapes matching the characters, that is the goal, so I'm pretty happy to hear the locks and messy blobs work, I wasn't sure about that decision :3

Unused symbols always end up being used in the arms/tails, though most are made on the spot while making the art (I couldn't think of a more unique ghost shape so Pac-man like ghost it is, at least it's a very readable ghost :P)

Finally caught up with Jan’s calendar entry, good lord. The reasons for that were quite simple: my own sky high expectations and lack of ideas.

As Tauri is my favourite of the bunch, I wanted to give him VIP treatment. Combine that with his 2 forms + me having a stupid hard time coming up with a central symbol for him cuz dude’s got a lot going on. Yeah. Disaster was inevitable.

A lot of things were on the table, yin yang, open and closed flowers, ghosts, glass shards, kanji, it goes on. Even trickery using negative space for the non-dominant form. Scrapped that one as I don’t think I have the skills to pull it off.

In the end, went with padlocks with a dash of bike locks, as a metaphor for his trait of keeping to himself. Doing that naturally meant keys. His black form is a faint, messy pile of blobs in the background, referencing where that body ended up. Of course, it has a key, cuz you can’t tell me his robotic self doesn’t bother him from time to time. Retrospectively, Antauri is also the reason Tribal Chiro has a seemingly random key.fyi a couple future ones will have keys too

Seeing reblogs from you is always such a treat :3 Yep, it's a nice contrast, it kinda fits him imo :P SR has the same limb aesthetic as the monkeys do, so for continuity, wanted to throw in other symbols like the rest. I barely came up with the main symbol, so hey, using the drivers was the next best thing :P

Ugh… ended up being late with this, as first I didn’t have any particular idea for it, then I got sick, then a collab, just…. things piled up, didn’t make it in time for the calendar. Kill me.

That aside, have a SR :3 Had a hard time picking a symbol for him, went with fire, cuz dude got jet boosters, missiles, Flame Strike, Lasertron Fury, etc. Good thing I didn’t use fire for Nova :P

As a bonus, I threw in symbols from the rest of the tribal squad into the corresponding vehicle limbs :P
