Bad News:

KOSA is attempting to returned to be planned to be rewritten and be introduced again, either on the Spending bill or the GOP, which Republicans and Musk are trying to do both. The bill is still very dangerous.

If this bill were to ever pass, all online safety would be in a lot of danger, as well as platforms being attacked for showing LGBT+ content (especially Trans people) or anything that MAGA and Elon Musk do not like.

Please do whatever you can to stop the bill as soon as possible!

🚨KOSA is back and being pushed heavily in congress right now

I really hate to do this, but KOSA, the bill that is a mass censorship and surveillance bill that will specifically censor all LGBT content online to "protect kids", is back.

KOSA advocates have brought in support from Elon Musk (I wish I was making this up) and are trying to get him to get Donald Trump to speak out in support of it. (And they lie and tell us it's not an anti-queer bill 🙄). The reason so is because the holdouts that are stopping this from passing are...republicans. It's GOP House leaders Steve Scalise and Mike Johnson. If they succeed and put this in an end of year spending bill, it will be near impossible to get it out and it will most likely be passed. Pro-KOSA advocates were on the hill today pushing hard to pass it. They have a lot of support behind them. There is only two weeks left in congress, so if they don't succeed, it's over.

The ONLY way this bill has stalled so much so far is because of calls driven to congress. It has worked and can still work. Please, spread this as much as you can and call House leadership and spread the word! You don't have to be from their district. You can pretend to be GOP. It doesn't matter, just call and voice your opposition. Trump and Musk clearly have a lot of sway over these people and I'm really scared they will succeed at the last minute!!

A heads up to anyone who is still looking out for KOSA news.

Supposedly there's going to be a push from KOSA supporters to go to DC and try to convince House leadership to push it through before the end of the Lame Duck period. This being after Donald Trump Jr and Elon Musk have voiced their support for it in the past couple days.

To be clear, there's no votes set to happen anytime soon or anything, and all news out of the GOP from sources like Evan Greer and Fight For The Future indicate that there's little to no chance Speaker Johnson or anyone intends to push it forward before the end of this year.

But even so, if you will have the time and energy to call and write to your House and Senate reps, especially House leadership like Johnson, to let them know that there's still a great amount of resistance to it, your efforts would be much appreciated. And this amount of vocal resistance could also help us try and push back against it being stuck onto any last minute must-pass financial legislature even if it won't pass under its own power.

Thank you in advance for your time and efforts! Only two weeks to go until the end of the legislative session. Let's work hard until the end and then hope that we can put it to rest for this year so we can build up our energy to work full force for all that's important to us next year!

we are so close to getting peace for a while

i tried to find the link that’s on the video but i couldn’t, it��s also 3am so maybe i’m just not thinking clearly but anyway

we are so close to not having to worry ab this bill anymore at least for a while!! i’m so tired of hearing ab it, im so tired of our basic rights online being threatened.

remember this is NOT a bill about kids safety. it is about americans no longer having anonymity online, no longer having free speech online and no longer being able to do or talk about anything our government deems inappropriate.

please for this one last time call the numbers in the link below, read off the scripts. do not let them pass this and ruin our last tiny bit of hope in a time where everything else in this country is fucked.

btw again if any of you are like “this won’t pass, i don’t need to call”, australia passed a bill just like this under a different name, that restricts kids under 16 from being on social media. even if this did genuinely only target kids under 16 (which it doesn’t) that still means any kids struggling with figuring themselves out, building community or getting help in anyway now can not access any of that. this will not help children. what would help children is their parents actually stepping up and doing their jobs.

There is a HUGE push to pass KOSA rn at the end of the year.

Real quick summary: Blumenthal and Blackburn "rewrote" KOSA to appeal to the right more. They worked with ELON MUSK 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️ to push this bill "protecting kids". Tomorrow, many orgs are bringing groups of parents to speak to congress. Top of the agenda is to go after providers of gender affirming care, including for adults. The FTC could also go after online platforms for displaying LGBTQ content which would be supercharged under KOSA. This is catastrophically bad.

There are two ways KOSA can be passed right now. Either from the House or attaching it to an end of year spending bill. They will try both.

Republican leadership(Scalise and Johnson) are surprisingly what is stopping thia from going through. They wont admit it out loud but they dont like the bill.
