"...I can't. There's so much to do. After leaving how I did...I have to make it worth it. Otherwise...how can I ever face Crowley?"
Hot cocoa or tea? :)
"What a rather difficult question! They both carry such a sense of comfort. But if I had to choose, I think I'll have to go with hot cocoa. It's warm, comforting, and with some added delightful chocolatey sweetness."
"Chocolate is a specific Earthly delight, and...I miss it terribly."

He used to be reprimanded for his frivolity when it came to the quantity of his miracles. Never thought too hard to question it. Why would he? When something came from above, it was law. It was very set.
And yet, the more time he spent on Earth and associating with Crowley, the less set things became. He just became better with words and knowing when to do what he wanted and when...when to ask a certain demon for a favor.
Now as Supreme Archangel there wasn't anyone to tick him off or send him notes about his frivolity use of miracles. Well, except God perhaps.
Part of him wanted to become so frivolous with his miracles to force Her to speak with him! But he refrains.
Through walking among humanity and Crowley helping him see the greyer areas of living...of life...of having a choice! It pauses his meddling of people's lives.
Maggie and Nina weren't yet together because their lives had so much more depth and more going on than what he and Crowley even knew in the short time they tried to set them up. They had both been concerned about the powers that be to take time to know the lives of the people they were meddling with.
His miracles couldn't be like in the earliest of days. They had to adapt. Humans were God's creatures that weren't like angels nor like demons. They were free to think and do as they wished. Influence impacted but didn't decide.
His miracles had to be stepping stones only.
But how much was too many? How little was uncaring?

Do people know to pray to you?
"Not really, no. It's oddly one of the things I didn't think would make me feel so isolated in Heaven, but it has been. I don't know how other Angels or Saints sort of their prayers. I worry about what's become to those who prayed to Gabriel now that he's...no longer in office. They haven't transferred to me in any form yet."

Smiting.
He's seen some throughout time. And he's definitely heard about it afterward. Gabriel's smiting was...legendary. It was known. It was feared!
Aziraphale didn't think about smiting immediately after becoming an Archangel, or even considering the mere thought that he now could.
The first time he realized his ability to smite was when Michael became rather bold in a not very subtle remark aimed toward Crowley.
Yes, Aziraphale had made a choice and accepted the role of Supreme Archangel. There were some personal attributes about what that meant for him and Crowley exactly, but it wasn't to mean he'd given up on Crowley.
Quite the opposite. His protectiveness of Crowley has only grown.
The Heavens rumbled with thunder and the skies crackled with lightning as he told Michael in no uncertain terms, "If you so much as think about being an annoyance to Crowley, I will use you as an example to prove to all angels that Gabriel's smiting was a joke compared to what I'm capable of."

Hindsight is 20/20. After Crowley's confession, there are many memories he goes back to and sees in a new light. A new course of emotion rocks him each time he revisits a memory and he yearns to return. But he can't fathom the words that would fix what's irrevocably broken now.
Worst still was that he saw it. Not immediately...but not even days after returning to Heaven he saw what Crowley meant.
The heartache that he brought with him into Heaven allowed him to see without the nativity he initially had when he first heard the Metatron's offer.
The stark contrast to what had become his every day to the endlessness of Heaven's clean efficientness that didn't have the kindness he always wanted to believe Heaven had was...a lot.
The Metatron shared with him the next big thing that would happen. But not much more beyond that. Told to become used to his new Rank.
'You were just another soldier before, Aziraphale. You're a leader now.'
A leader that wasn't liked, trusted, and barely respected. Uriel and Saraqael were professional and working with them only felt awkward in the sense of he was so used to them being above him in rank for so much time.
Michael was...less than enthusiastic about the change. And the most vocal. Nearly damning Gabriel's name at least once during meetings, and never looking at him without a glare.
He yearned to return to Earth, to find an apology worthy of Crowley's forgiveness, and return to life!
Yet he clearly saw the ticking time bomb Heaven found itself in. Leadership was an unfunny joke. The angels had seen so much disorganization and far too much of what their existence has been waiting for has been eliminated. The Plan they had set their loyalty and faith in...had cracks that even the lowest level was capable of seeing.
With terrifying understanding, Aziraphale was seeing what Crowley had meant. Heaven was efficient, but to a point that it wasn't...nice. The Heaven he believed in wasn't the one he was ruling.
There was so much work to do. To keep it from collapsing into itself and leading to revolution. To keep another World-Ending event from happening. To make his leaving worth it!
Was it worth it?
Would it ever be?
He thinks he knows the answer...but he couldn't speak it aloud.
He was one of the most powerful Angels now. Back in his domain. Surrounded by his legions.
And he's never been more alone.

((I just wanted to say that I'm happy to see a more serious take on this side of Aziraphale, and that your writing is fantastic!))
((Thank you! You're too kind! I couldn't sleep and ever since season two ended, I've felt so many emotions, had so many thoughts, and the Good Omens fan base is so wonderfully talented with fan art and meta posts that have made myself think about how Aziraphale would be like as Supreme Archangel...so at around 1am last night I ended up making a side-blog to get some of my writing out there. Thank you so much for your kind words! ))

Open to Crowley's...with smutty intent. Up front about it, I'm channeling Michael Sheen's natural horniness into Supreme Archangel Aziraphale.
He tried at first to keep himself busy with the immense amount of work that needed to be done. Yet...Crowley had awakened something within him with that kiss. Now he could admit to himself that he's yearned for Crowley for a long time, but now after the kiss he was starved!
No amount of discipline or self-control could keep him in Heaven. So he ended up returning to Earth the moment he was able to sneak away. Sending an invitation to Crowley. To the Ritz yes, but not for the dining room. He got an actual room for privacy. He didn't know what he'd say if Crowley showed up, but in hopeful preparation, he ordered Crowley's favorite wine through room service.
And now...just to wait and see if his invitation was accepted or rejected.

Stepping out of Heaven's elevator and back onto Earth was a divinity he'd missed more than he could put into words. The variety of colors, scents, and noises was a chaotic bombardment that might have knocked him over if he were a typical angel. Even the gentle cooling breeze made him nostalgic. It meant movement and a caress of some sort.
Everything that Heaven wasn't.
He took a few steps and caught sight of his reflection in a store's window. In a stoic grey suit, eyes violet, hair of darkened curls kept longer than he usually had when he lived on Earth, as well as a beard that matched.
Tearing his eyes away from his reflection he continued to walk. Bask in the things he's missed, and admittingly kept an eye out for anything, or anyone, familiar.
Soon he was standing in front of his old shop. Months had passed, but time was different in Heaven, and so it felt like an eternity.
He wasn't the same Aziraphale that left this shop. He felt like a stranger. He felt...unwelcomed.
"I shouldn't have left..."

Establishing dominance and respect as the new Supreme Archangel hadn't been easy. His return ruffled plenty of feathers. Known as half of the reason that Armageddon was stopped, the very thing all angels have been prepared for since the beginning of existence didn't make him very popular or liked. Less that he returned unpunished but with a raise in rank.
At first, driven by etiquette and older feelings of what he thought he should act like in Heaven as if he were still just a Principality...he tried being nice.
It got him nowhere.
So he became stricter. Firmer. More...Gabriel-like.
Gone were his beige and tartan clothing, now the monochrome grey that was common for those of higher rank. His eyes were a vivant violet, his light blond hair longer, and his curls a darkened hue.
Heaven was a lot of work. So much of it wasn't working properly and not at all the Heaven he believed in. With plenty of resistance and push back from every corner.
Surrounded by his own kind and yet he's never felt more alone.
He misses Earth terribly.
Most of all...he misses Crowley.
