Calabar Church Ritual Saga: Ritual items are drama costume; blood is from goat - Pastor . . Pastor Anthony Obo of God’s Commandment Ministry was defiant, yesterday, when he was paraded by the Police, claiming that the ‘occult items’ found in his church were drama costumes, while the blood found in a red bucket in his church was that of a goat and a chicken he killed to celebrate his baby’s dedication. . . The pastor, who was paraded along with five other accomplices, told Vanguard that he did not abduct the one-year, six-month-old girl whose heart was reportedly found in a white basin in his church. . . He said: “The red chairs covered in white sheet and the black bag and other occult items were used by the youth of my church for art and drama presentation, while the blood in the red bucket is that of the goat and chicken I killed to celebrate the dedication of my child who was one year last week.” . . The spokesperson of Cross River Police Command, Ms Irene Ugbo, however, said the pastor and his accomplices were arrested following a confessional statement by one of the suspects that they were sent by the pastor to abduct and kill a baby, whose heart was put in a basin and handed over to him. . . She said: “The heart has been sent to the University of Calabar for forensic examination, while we are investigating where the body of the baby was dumped or buried.” . . She added that investigations into pictures of those found in the church are being carried out to identify the reason the pictures were found there.

Trump restores military ban on transgender people . . US President Donald Trump has signed a memo reinstating a ban on transgender people serving in the military, which was lifted under Barack Obama. The memo also halts the use of government funds for sex-reassignment surgery for active personnel. . . But Mr Trump left Defence Secretary Jim Mattis to decide whether to retain existing transgender recruits. The ban, justified on grounds of cost and disruption, faces a legal challenge by transgender rights activists. . . "This policy is a shameful slap in the face to people who put their lives on the line everyday to defend our country..." said Jennifer Levi, an official at Glad (GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders), in a statement.

Photo by @BrianSkerry. ------------------------------------------- A shark scientist - behind the protection of a cage - studies an Oceanic Whitetip Shark in the waters of the Bahamas. This species of shark was once the ‘most abundant large animal on Earth’ but today is on the verge of extinction. In the years between 1995 and 2010 alone, their numbers declined 93% due to anthropogenic hunting of their fins, which are used in shark fin soup. The Bahamas remains as one of the few places these animals can still be found. If you like sharks, or simply find these creatures fascinating, check out the new book - SHARK - by @BrianSkerry and @NatGeo! Available at the link in my bio or wherever books are sold.
