one thing i absolutely love about andy’s hanschen is almost how desperate he seems… like in the vineyard scene with ernst, you can tell he’s trying to make sure he doesn’t lose ernst’s attention or mess anything up. hanschen is kind of known throughout the show to not really have a lot of friends, so with ernst i like to think that he was trying really hard not to mess things up and lose him as well.
like, when hanschen kisses ernst for the first time, he kind of just pauses in fear like he doesn’t know if ernst will yell at him or run away. when hanschen says “30 years from now, tonight will seem unbelievably beautiful,” he turns to move away and leave in what i think is fear of rejection. he does the same thing after saying “so you’re sorry we-?” but this time actually thinking ernst WAS rejecting him.
the desperate nature of hanschen is something i find so interesting because, truthfully and canonically, he doesn’t really have anybody. ernst is not just a friend to him but also a crush and a potential lover and losing all of that in one to hanschen is terrifying, like it is for everyone! he is clinging on to hope but also has a habit of being almost avoidant which i think makes him even more relatable… love you hanschen
