any motivation ideas for continuing to work on your fictions? I have a stupid amount I need to get finished and I need motivation ideas

Do you have any writing advice? Specifically for creating emotionally engaging scenes? Even more specifically for non romantic scenes.

For starters, my best piece of advice is to not overwork yourself. I truly believe that creativity is something that comes to you, and if you try to force it, the emotions/scene you’re trying to covey won’t come across as effectively.

For any kind of emotionally engaging scene, I typically start by writing the most dramatic part of the dialogue. You can think of it as a hook. Once you have an idea of the climatic part, it becomes a lot easier to build up to it. I usually finish the dialogue in a scene and then go back in to add actions that intensify each character’s emotions (heavy breathing, hand gestures, facial expressions). You can also broaden a character’s feelings by referring to past scenes and how it can stir up past emotions (ie. if a character is experiencing something traumatic, perhaps it reminds them of a previously trauma)x

If you’re writing a longer story, writing the emotional scenes first can be super helpful because you then can add subtle foreshadowing in the beginning.

Additionally, when I feel that I’m getting too repetitive with my words (ie. saying said too much) or not being as descriptive as I want to be, I utilize a thesaurus, too. It can add so much complexity and create a vivid image, thus making things more engaging!!

Listening to music that feels like the scene or even the story in general definitely helps, too.

YOUR WRITING STYLE OF ALL YOUR STORIES IS ABSOLOUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!! i lurk within the comments and ive never published something on ao3 but you've always been my biggest inspiration and reading ur other stories has always been my favorites ever, one day ill publish my own fic and id love to put you in a summary as being my inspiration of stepping out of my personal zone and becoming closer with the ao3 community :3 request - ive always had this idea in my mind where the boys are on this little date and the scene is like a really snowy and takes place in the middle of winter and i probably will use this as a prompt of my own- but id love to see if you can build on an idea i thought of because reading everything of yours is simply so inspirational and always gives me a boost and makes me actually want to get to writing<3

For some reason, I struggle to write cute scenes like this. When I was working on Teach Me, some of the chapters that look me the longest to write were the ones that were fluffy and didn’t have a lot of dramatic stuff. The suggestions make me think of when the boys went to Russia, but I can also see this being a rabler moment, too. I definitely imagine them having a date at a restaurant with their table near a window, with Ty is complaining to Josh about being cold he is. Of course, Josh offers him his jacket. I can also see them going home later to have chocolate, and Josh complains every time Tyler isn’t literally pressed up next to him that he’s “too cold.”
