you're a strange aberration in this land of potted plants and box-like houses where the girls're like mouses

Has anything actually gotten better, for all the work you talk about doing? Or is it just treading water in misery forever?
Anon, ten years ago gay people couldn't get married in large parts of the US. AIDS was an almost certain death sentence when I was in high school. I was looking at job boards the other day and found a part time gas station job that had health insurance as a benefit, which NEVER would have happened 15 years ago. When I was a kid, hitting your child was extremely normalized in the US and my parents were the weird ones for not doing it. There is a vaccine for chicken pox. I didn't meet anyone who had transitioned until my 20s because it was so uncommon to transition in the aughts, and now there are some states that protect your right to have gender affirming care provided by your health insurance. It's not all states, but it's better than the number of states that had it in 2010, which was zero. THERE ARE TENANTS UNIONS NOW. WE HAVE A VACCINE AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER.
And all of that has been the work of a lot of individuals and organizations and research teams and activists.

"is it bad to call fascists weird because being weird is good" is such a nothing burger argument, to me. I guess its good to examine language in this way but I just feel like, these are 2 very different applications of the same word, and it's understood what is meant through context. The English language is capable of immense nuance. No one should think "keep Austin weird" and "republicans are weird" mean the same thing, and nobody does. Like at some point we just strip ourselves of effective communication by litigating too hard about it. The logical inverse of weird being categorically good would mean "republicans are normal," which is the complete opposite of the point of the messaging.

Different anon but the parallel (I hesitate to call it a theory because imo it’s just kind of a cool coincidence?) is that the final two horcruxes that needed to be destroyed to defeat Voldemort were Harry himself and Nagini the snake, and the final two rerecords in order to have fully defeated SB and reclaim her entire discography are Taylor Swift (herself) and Reputation (the snake)
To fully defeat SB jejrorkfof

“We’ve been dealing with invisibility. We started realizing we’re kind of fading. So many of our friends say that: that they’re becoming invisible. Everybody needs a welcome from somebody else so that they can feel useful. It’s a real source of energy. And when you realize you’re not getting that as much, what happens is you get scared. And you also say: maybe we could do something a little different. So at some point we came up with the idea of the cute older couple. We were hoping to find some younger friends. We’ve always been attracted to younger people. You know, young people struggle. So we like to support them and wish them well and give them a lot of approval. And young people need cute old couples. They love cute old couples. So we decided to play it up a little bit. That’s what it is: ‘play.’ It’s really play. Have you ever seen two dogs greet each other? One dog will drop down, and bam, suddenly they’re playing. I think that’s what we’re doing. We’re inviting a play response.”
