IN THIS HOUSE WE celebrate black women sculptors because Dark Academia has a slight Michelangelo fetish and sometimes it’s good to mix things up.
Left to Right:
Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller & Elizabeth Catlett, Selma Burke & Simone Leigh, Edmonia Lewis & Augusta Savage

It’s pretty fucked up that Europeans literally traveled to Africa to learn from African scholars but it’s the Europeans scholars who are remembered . . . . Just stop trying to erase Africans and people of African descent from academia. They were brilliant and if they weren’t, why were colonizers so adamant about erasing them from the history they created/were involved in?

classic lit hits different than modern lit not because modern lit lacks depth but because there’s something so incredible about reading something and knowing that hundreds of years before you people were living, breathing, loving, the same way you do now. like one hundred years ago someone read these same words and felt them and read them just as you do today, and you’re connected despite the times that separates you

I think the fast paced society we live in currently has brainwashed me into thinking i can upgrade myself and my life just as fast as when i restart my computer or phone. I have forgotten the natural cycles of life… how the moon takes her time to be full or how the crops take their time to grow their fruits.

oh, to be the owner of a small bookshop on a cobblestone street with roses climbing the front of the building, where books are stacked about in piles and there’s always coffee brewing and a sleepy shop dog lifts his head at the sound of the door’s bell and thumps his tail against the hardwood

nothing makes me yearn harder than the accidental brush of a hand or the bumping of knees under the table,, the quiet unintentional intimacy of those motions

Darkly academic research ideas for your time indoors (because you're not a heathen):
The lives of great classical composers.
Ancient Egypt's social hierarchy and attitudes towards women, homosexuality etc.
Poisons.
The tea trade, and how it became so important to British culture.
18th century fashion and the production of clothing.
How corsets aren't the terrible patriarchal torture devices everyone thinks they are.
The use of recreational drugs in the late 19th century.
The French revolution.
Methods of forensic investigation at crime scenes.
Controversy in psychological studies.
Matriarchal societies.
How nostalgia influences fashion, media, and literature.
The nature versus nurture argument.
The history of trains and railroads.
Symbolism in art.
Just a few research rabbit holes to throw yourself into if you're bored. :)

‘mystery of love’ by sufjan stevens but you’re picking flowers in your countryside backyard while your neighbor who you’re secretly in love with plays music you can hear through their open window. (headphones recommended) (youtube)
