FINAL CAS REFLECTION
These past two years have been fun and interesting, as I was able to try new things and get the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone. In the beginning, I was a bit nervous about CAS and how it would pan out. I didn´t really know what I was doing and whether I should just give up. Luckily, I was given many chances by teachers, friends and family to help get my CAS hours done.
Having trips such as the CAS trip to Berlin helped complete my final hours of creativity, action and service. Not only did it give me wonderful memories, such as my first urban kayaking experience and doing graffiti. In addition, I was able to join and work with the amazing project. Which was my CAS project and helped me gain skills, to use further on. This journey of CAS has helped build my love for photography and working with children.
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I completed this specific learning outcome, through me being able to evaluate my progress in certain activities such as, archery and football. Theses two activities helped me develop my skills and get out of my shell. Since these two activities were longer than others, I was able to spend more time working on my skills. In addition, having enough time was needed, especially when it came analysing your own strengths and areas of growth.
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process :
Theses past two years I was faced with a number of challenges such as interacting with children, working with people older than me and tackling problems within that activity. One thing that I have done well, in terms of new challenges is not being afraid to trying new things such as archery, kayaking and graffiti . Theses are things, that I would not normally do. Which has lead me to developing and learning new skills. Also, it´s given me memories and experience.
Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
In the beginning of getting my CAS done, I was a bit worried about working with other people and having to take charge in certain activities such as the english classes I did. That´s a clear example of how someone like me was able to plan and teach a group of children all by myself.
Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences :
My work experience in the nursery was important to me and I want to show my supervisors, that I was responsible. Being able to see how hard people work in nurseries gave me a better understanding of what it means to be an adult and the struggles surrounding that title. Overall, I would say that my experience working in the nursery shows how responsible I became in a short period of time and how I took the initiative in certain situations. Such as doing the jobs, that others did not want to do.
Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively:
During my CAS project, I was working with a number of people. All who came from different backgrounds and age groups. Since the project was based on photography and the lives of several important people. I was able to meet a few refugees and people who went through struggles in their lives. This was somewhat a challenge, when it came to being to work with them efficiently and at professional level. Teamwork was important for my CAS project, as we needed to trust each other to make the right decisions. Especially, since we had to travel as well.
Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance :
I completed this learning outcome through my work for my CAS project. My CAS project was done in Bodø, during this trip I was able to experience how it would be to live abroad. Our CAS project was to spread awareness of the importance of helping refugees. The deaths of many refugees is a global issue and how the world has dealt with it .
We were able to find a young man, who had fled his home country. The main goal was to show his story of how he suffered so much, just to get countries. We took pictures of him and recorded a video. Afterwards, we were able to edit the video and photos. It was really upsetting hearing his side of the story and journey it had to take. His picture was in our exhibition and his story was finally being heard
Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions :
For instance, when doing my CAS project I was able to make some decisions. Ethical considerations are important and knowing when to use them. We had to make sure to watch the video, that we recorded. This action, then let us make sure that the young man is not deceived

BASKETBALL - ACTION
02.10.17-28.10.17
I really love basketball and find it so much fun. It is a pretty great activity to do with family and friends. I´ve been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. However I only recently started playing a lot, since I felt it was great time spent away from school and internal assessments.
Basketball is a fun activity, that keeps you going and active. Especially, when you spend a lot of your hours sitting in a classroom and trying to stay awake.

SERVICE- ENGLISH CLASSES
01.02.18-15.02.18
This has been one of the most stressful things I have done, to complete CAS. I was a bit stuck on service and was looking for places to volunteer at. I did this by going to a RED CROSS meeting and I got the chance to learn about their organisation. However, I realised that it would be rather difficult to work at RED CROSS. Which left me again confused about what I could for my service hours and the things I could do.
After a couple weeks of thinking, my little 13 year old sister asked me if I could help her with her english work. This lead me to thinking about having some english classes with her and her classmates, or at least her friends. She thought, that this was a great idea and had asked her friends if they needed the extra help. A few of them had said yes, which was exciting and a bit nerve-wracking. After finalising a few details, I had a group of 12 children, in 8th grad. Who wanted help for their upcoming english test, since I knew a few of them. We were able to arrange schedule times for us to meet up and get them the help, that they needed.
Our meeting place was the local library and it was brilliant place for me to teach the children a few things. Since, their test was around the corner. we had english classes for around 14 days. Each sessions lasted around an hour, since it was an perfect amount of hours for me to teach them. As they would get bored quite easily. The hardest thing about, this activity was seeing them everyday for 14 days. It was a huge commitment to make and took a lot of hard work. Due to, a lot preparations of the sessions and what I needed to focus on.
Overall, it was brilliant learning experience, I was able to experience how it would be to teach english for a living. My goal in life is to be an international english teacher, so having the opportunity to teach a bunch of Norwegian children english has been great.

CREATIVITY- HAIRSTYLES
31.05.17 - 10.06.17
One of the things I always wanted to do was learn how to braid and do cool hair styles for people. I thought to myself one day, why not learn it by practicing on people. So I asked one of my friends, if she would be my model and that I could practice braiding. This was a long process, as it was really hard at first. Since I did not what I was doing and I found it quite tiring. After a couple weeks, I finally got the hang of it and soon I was I able to do cool hair styles like the picture above. I did this, during my summer holidays.
Overall I found this really fun and felt like I finally learnt a new, cool skill.

CREATVITIY- PHOTOGRAPHY
04.02.17
This is one of the many activities I have done, when it comes to photography. Especially, since it was my CAS project and was my favourite thing to do. During, this session were told to take some pictures of objects and people. This was one of the first times, that I used a professional camera. It was pretty hard to get to grips with how it worked and what I should do.

CREATIVITY- COOKING
This is one of the many times, that I have tried new dishes to cook. One of the first was making salmon and white sauce. It was difficult, especially since I am pretty terrible cooking.
During, this little session I was helped by mum. Who taught me how to marinate the salmon and add all the ingredients to make a white sauce. This was interesting to see how my favourite dish was made and getting to try my own creation.
Overall, I would say that it was interesting and fun. Being able to develop and gain new skills is brilliant for the mind.

SERVICE- BABYSITTING
20.07.17-27.07.17
Over the summer holidays, I was asked by aunt if I could babysit her kids for a couple of hours for one week. This was pretty fun, as I love spending time with children and doing fun activities with them.
It was an interesting experience, as I had to come up with creative things to do with them everyday. We did various things such as, swimming, boardgames, going to the park, cinemas, arts and crafts. All these activities took time planning and finding a way to handle all the children at once. At times it was difficult, since I needed to make sure to also follow an routine and rules set by my aunt. However, I was able to use my past work experience and knowledge I have to do the job.

SERVICE- Baking a cake for charity
A selection of people in my class, were asked to bake a cake for a charity in our school. This was a really fun activity, as I was able to showcase my baking skills and show people what a pro I am or at least try not to poison them.
I baked an oreo cake and it tasted pretty great. Also, it a great feeling knowing that I contribute in helping a brilliant charity aiming to help innocent people in Kenya.

ARCHERY - ACTIVITY
20.03.18-19.04.18
This was a new experience for me, since I never done it before. My older brother is pretty good at it and finally agreed to show me a few tricks. So over a couple weeks, he was able to help develop my tricks and be comfortable to shoot. At first, it was pretty scary and hard but I soon got the hang of it. Well somewhat!!!
Overall, it was a pretty brilliant couple weeks of doing something out of the norm. I was able to learn some new skills and be willing to participate in new activities. In addition, it was nice doing an activity. When I needed a short break, as I only spent an hour each time.
Learning outcomes:
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth; I was able to broadcast my abilities, over the weeks and show my strengths and weaknesses. After, observing my brother and how it takes charge of the activity. I was able to evaluate what I am doing and seeing where I was going wrong.

FOOTBALL - ACTVITY
02.09.16-02.03.18
I love playing football with my siblings and friends. It´s a cool activity to do, instead of just going to the gym. Over the two years, I have improved a lot and find it easier to dribble the ball. During, this time I am able to let loose and forget about internal assessments. Football has been one of the main aspects of action, that I do.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I have been willing to try new activities, that I would not normally do. At first, I was a bit confused to what I wanted to do for my action part for CAS. Which is why I asked a few people, what I could do and how I should go about it. One of the them told me about football and how fun it is. Obviously I knew, what football was but I didn´t play that much. However, over these two years I have developed new skills and can actually now score a lot of goals!

BERLIN TRIP!!!
This was such an amazing trip to go on and has been a reminder of how fun IB can be at times. The class trip to Berlin was to participate in activities, that we could use for our CAS. We were told to take pictures, throughout the whole trip. So that we could use it in our blog to describe the activities that we got to do.
The activities consisted of:
Urban Kayaking
Street art - graffiti
walk tour- seeing the Berlin wall,Berlin´s Brandenburg gate and the holocaust memorial.
working with the refugees ( they showed us Berlin and explained the beautiful sights in the perspectives)
group activities with another CAS group visiting
The highlight of going on this trip was urban kayaking, I was able to face one of my biggest fears. This was a brilliant feeling and being able to experience it with my classmates was amazing. Urban kayaking took around three hours and was really tiring. We had to work together well with people, that were sharing the same canoe. If not it was rather difficult to move to different areas of the lake, we first taught how to do it properly though.
In addition, we took part in a street art tour and workshop. This was really fun, as were able to learn new skills and have a great times with my classmates. Learning how to graffiti was hard, at first but eventually it got a lot easier.
Learning outcomes shown during the trip:
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Theses were the main learning outcomes, that I gained during this trip. Demonstrating engagement with issues of global significance was shown though the time, that we spent with the refugees. We were able to talk about important global issues, that´s impacting the world today. Also, we were given the opportunity to come up with some cool ideas and plan, that we would use to help lessen the problems surrounding some global issues. During this activity, we were able to review the ethics of the choices that we would make. For example how can a CAS project be started and our journey into finalising it. We had a group discussion amongst the other CAS class, this helped a lot. As were able to listen other peoples opinion on certain things and ones´s responsibility.
HOURS: the whole trip was around 24 hours

ARTS AND CRAFTS- CREATIVITY
06.01.18
I did this really fun arts and crafts with my little sister. We were able to have fun and show off our brilliant colouring skills. It was interesting to see how my sister would react and what she would when creating her masterpiece.
Before starting this activity, I went to the local shops and bought a few art supplies. Since, I did not know exactly what I was making and I thought having a range of supplies would be interesting
It was brilliant seeing my sister react to the art supplies and the pure excitement in her face. When we started and how much fun she was going to have. It is really important, that children get to be messy and creative. So having this time with my little sister was great and fun.

SERVICE- WORK EXPERIENCE IN A NURSERY
26.05.17-28.05.17
This has being one of the most interesting CAS activities, that I have done. I was looking for a fun activity to do, to help complete CAS. Which is why I asked around to see if I could find somewhere, that I would look to do voluntary work for.
A place that I found was a nursery in Oslo. This is where i got the chance to meet a lot of cool and fun people. They taught me how to interact with the children and being to take charge when needed. I spent three days working there, as a helper. It started from 09:00 - 15:00, I was given various tasks. Such as playing with kids, helping make their lunches and cleaning up.
During this experience, I learnt how to work with other people in a professional setting. I showed commitment, in this experience. By making sure I was these on time and ready to learn.
