I know no one follows this blog for lawyerly thoughts, but here it is:
I do not understand criminal defense attorneys who refer to the complaining witness as the "victim." They're the complaining witness, y'all. Don't do the prosecutors'/cops' jobs for them.

Fourth amendment exclusionary rule precedent is honestly a fucking joke. “Yeah the police can violate your rights and reap the benefits of it in trial because the didn’t mean too”. I hate here.

What I learned while Interning at A Public Defenders Office!
1. The reputation that most public defenders have does not come from them, but the conflict attorneys that receive cases that the public defender office can not take because of conflicts of interest (having a co-defendant or represented the victim previously). (In my experience) Conflict attorneys are private attorneys who are appointed by the court and get a flat fee for representing these clients who can not for some reason be represented by the public defender's office. They like to do the least amount of work so the check they receive will be more profitable because they did less work on the case. 2. We need a holistic justice system. One that can encapsulate the social failings (poverty and homelessness) and health problems (mental illness and drug addiction) of clients. A jail cell solves very few issues and can lead to more. 3. Abolish the bail bond system. People being charged with misdemeanors should not be kept in jail because they can not afford to get out. This causes people to want to plead guilty to get out of jail. There is a better way to do this. 4. Abolish all misdemeanors. Most misdemeanors are stupid. (public indecency, public drunkenness, and shoplifting) 5. Abolish private probation and parole companies. This makes the situation a person is in worse when they have to pay fees to a private company for their surveillance. Many people can not afford this. 6. Judicial and District Attorney elections should not be a thing. Elections make the people in these positions come down harder on people because they are worried about it looking bad in the next election. 7. The DA to judge pipeline is a problem. 8. The justice system is not broken it works exactly how it was designed. This is why many things are criminalized that make no sense. The 13th Amendment was the first stepping stone to creating another dehumanizing system that would primarily target newly freed African Americans and the modern-day black and brown people at disproportionate rates. 9. Witnessing the dehumanization of your clients is heartbreaking. 10. Jail guards purposefully dehumanize the people incarcerated to make themselves okay with being the people keeping these people locked in cages. (using terms such as Feeding instead of lunchtime about when the incarcerated peoples are eating). 11. Decriminalize all drugs. (Yes, all drugs)

I know a lot of y’all are either taking or finishing exams. Y’all are all stressed out, but if y’all haven’t heard some one say they are proud of you just know I am. You have worked so hard to make it were you are now, and I’m proud of you for that.
