Soooo cuteee
I think I’ll die
Steve Harrington x reader (enemies to lovers) (kinda?)
Summary: you and Steve mutually agree to disagree, on everything. That’s until a hot summer day brings you two closer than ever.
Ignore all typos or I’ll cry <3——————————————————————————-
You have a pep in your step as you walk towards the family video store. Tape in hand, you swing the door open. You guessed the plot twist before even watching the movie and now Robin owes you ten bucks.
You walk in, you sigh at the sight in front of you. Leaning on a shelf talking to another customer is Steve. You quickly bolt into an aisle in hopes that he didn’t see you.
Your relationship with Steve is a bit more on the rocky side. One day he was King Steve, every outcast's worst enemy and then all the sudden he’s hanging around your best friend and a bunch of kids. Robin swears up and down that he’s a changed man but when you ask why, she offers no answers. So as of right now, your opinions on him remain the same.
In all honesty, it’s not like he’s made much of an effort to get along with you, so things proceed as they have been. You and Steve, Sharing Robin, like split custody.
You’re now kneeling down in the aisle you’re in, looking at the movies on the bottom shelf.
Out of nowhere a shadow appears above your head. You pay it no mind, hoping it’ll just pass over. The shadow clears its throat. You look up and there Steve is, in all his glory.
You roll your eyes and look back down at the shelf in front of you, trying your best to ignore him. The next thing you know, he’s leaning right over you, deciding now is the perfect time to put tapes back on the shelf above your head.
You know what he’s doing. Steve is doing what he always does when he sees you, trying to get a reaction out of you. Well Steven, today is not that day. You pay him no mind and continue sifting through the tapes in front of you. Steve takes your silence as a dare to push your buttons. He leans over you again, except this time you feel his knees pressing into your back. Your hands stop moving against the tapes.
You don't dare look up at him, you can envision his little smirk perfectly. Steve really starts to put his weight on your back, you stumble a bit forward, he lets out a small snort.
Without a second thought you scooch to the side as quickly as you can. Since Steve no longer has anything in front of him to hold his weight, he goes tumbling forward. He catches himself, of course, but not without dropping all the tapes in his hand and sending the ones on the shelf in front of him flying to the side. This time you let out a laugh.
“Oh come on, my stack.” Steve looks down at you with a glare.
You finally stand up from your spot on the ground and walk out the aisle, Steve follows right on your heels.
You feel him right behind you, “shouldn’t you be picking those up Harrington?” He scoffs, “I should make you clean them up since it's your fault they went all over the place.”
You turn around and Steve stumbles to a stop. “I am a loyal, paying customer, how dare you talk to me like that.”
“Oh bullshit, you don’t even pay for your movies half the time thanks to Robin.” That’s true, you don’t.
“Speaking of Robin, Where is she? I gotta talk to her” You lean over the front desk, peeking to see if Robin is hiding under the counter again.
Steve walks around and snatches the tape you’ve been holding. “She went out back for a Keith break.” You wince, completely understandable Rob.
Steve starts returning your tape for you. He sticks out his hand like he’s expecting something. “Can I help you Steven?”Steve sighs, “How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me Steven, and yes, you owe me a late fee. You were supposed to return this yesterday.” Robin didn’t work yesterday, hence the reason you didn’t return it yesterday.
You snatch the tape from his hand, “ I’ll pay it when Robin gets back, can you leave me alone now?”
Steve scoffs at your bluntness.
You look back at the aisle you guys came from “ I think you should clean up your mess, it’s a hazard to other customers.”
Steve walks out from behind the counter, mumbling a quick ‘you’re a hazard to other customers’ and heads towards the aisle to pick up the tapes.
When you turn back around, you see Robin walking up towards the front. You give her a smile, waiting for her the reach the counter.
“Good afternoon my lady, you seem chipper.” Your smile widens, “Chipper I am Robin, I’m about to become 10 dollars richer.” Robin gives you a confused look which quickly morphes into shock. “No way, noo way!” You nod your head “Yes way Robin, pay up.” You stick your hand out expectantly.
Robin takes the tape from your other hand, “How? How do you always get it?” You shrug “It’s my god given talent.” Robin returns your tape and goes to say something when she’s cut off.
“Charge her Robin! Charge her the late fee!” you turn around and see Steve come out the aisle with his stack of tapes.
“Oh my gosh Harrington, go away.” He doesn’t. He marches right up next to you.
“This,” he points back and forth between you and Robin, “this has to stop, no more freebies for you any more.”
You look at Robin and back at Steve. “Okay, who you the right to decide that?” Robin backs you up, “yeah Steve who gives you the right?”
“I’ll have you know, I care about following the rules that pertain to my job.” Robin points her finger at him, “Oh you dirty liar, you give freebies to cute chicks all the time, hows that for following company policies.”
Oh, Does he? Interesting.
Steve looks at you, you can’t really tell what he’s thinking but it’s weirding you out. You look back to Robin.
“Look Harrington, We’ll let you and your freebies for hot chicks slide, if you let Robin and I’s little deal go.”
He gives a curt nod.
“Robin, I haven’t forgotten, My ten dollars please.”
Robin looks up at you, oh no, you know that look. “Funny story, I actually don’t have the a ten to give you.” Robin gives you a sheepish smile but you don’t take it. “Robinnn, you do this every time.” She shrugs “what, I’m poor.”
Steve just stands and looks at the two of you. “Oh so now you guys are openly gambling in front of me?”
You stick your hand out. “Steven this has nothing to do with you.” He pulls your hand down out of his face. You keep your attention on Robin. “Yeah well I’m poor too Rob. That was gonna pay for my day at the pool.”
You can practically see the gears turning. “What if I told you I know a person with a pool, for free.”
“Robin, who do you know that I don’t, that has a pool?” You say crossing your arms.
Steve figures out who she's referencing before you
“No way, my pool is private, not open to the public.”
Robin yanks on Steve’s arm from over the counter. “Oh come on Steve, the kids are there all the time. Would you be generous enough to share your fortune? For me, please?”
Steve is quiet, he’s thinking. Finally with a sigh, he decided “Fine, fine, whatever you guys can come hangout at my pool.” With that, Steve walks away with his stack of tapes.
Sorry Robin, there was no way in hell you were going to Steve’s house.
——————————————————————
You caved.
It’s hot, very hot, and all you can think about is taking a dip in a nice cold pool, even if it’s Steve’s pool.
Robin called you a while ago that she was already there. You waited another 30 minutes before heading out, really debating if you want to go.
You pull up to the address Robin gave you. You look at the address scribbled on the paper just to make sure you were at the right place.
You walk up to the front door and knock, no one answers. You sway back and forth on your feet and decide to knock again. No answers, maybe everyone is out back and can’t hear?
You’re thinking maybe now is the time to run back to your car and just go home. Your inner battle is interrupted by the door swinging open.
Steve stands there with a smug look on his face.
You stare back “um hey”
“Uh hi” he mocks you “were you thinking about walking away?”
What? Oh. “Where you just standing there watching me you freak?”
You know you should be nicer, it is his house after all but it’s hot and you're sweating and you feel like you’re melting and he’s being mean and he’s getting on your nerves.
“Well are we gonna keep standing here orrr”
Steve pushes the door open all the way, inviting you in.
You walk right past him and you keep walking but you have no idea where to go. Steve shuts the door after you and brushes past you, you assume he knows where he’s going so you just follow him.
As you walk through the house, you can’t help but stare at everything.Steve’s house is beyond nice, it’s beautiful. You linger behind him, focusing on every little thing you pass.
You aren’t paying attention and don’t realize that Steve has stopped walking.
You run right into him
“Okay who's the freak now, why are you starting down everything in here? it’s creeping me out.”
Dammit he noticed. No point in lying.
“Your house is insane”
“No it is not”
“Uh, yes it is.”
“No it’s not, it’s a normal house, now move.” He goes behind you and starts shoving you towards what you assume is the back door.
“Are you kidding me, this is not normal, you’re a true ten percenter.”
“Okay I get it, eat the rich or whatever.”
You look behind you and give him a disgusted look. “It doesn’t sound right when you say it.”
Steve ignores you and goes to open the back door. You are immediately greeted by the sound of yelling and splashing. How you didn’t hear it before is beyond you. Once you step outside and your eyes adjust to the light you see the culprits of the splashing.
A pool full of teens. A pool full of teens that are now staring at you.
Robin hops up from her lounge chair and walks towards you.
“Hey I thought you’d never make it, I called you forever ago.”
The delay was on purpose. “Yeah sorry, I got distracted, You know me.” Robin seems to buy the excuse and shrugs.
“Well come sit down.” Robin leads you over to the lounge chair right next to hers.
You go to sit down but you still feel lingering eyes. “Hey Rob, why are the children staring at me?”
She whips her head towards them and they immediately look away. “You’re new, they’re frightened.”
“Understandable.”
You leave it at that.
You sit in your chair but you can’t help but feel uncomfortable, caused by the mixture of heat and the situation itself.
Once you feel like everyones stopped staring you decide to take your jean shorts and top off. You try to be as nonchalant as you can, but you feel lingering eyes again. You turn to the kids but they're too wrapped up in whatever water fight they're having. You look more to your left and find the wandering eyes. Steve tries to act like he wasn't staring, he turns his head a bit too late, and it could just be the heat but you see a pink tint on his cheeks.
Weird.
You lounge on the chairs with Robin for a while. Robin seems unaffected by the sun, reading her book peacefully. You, on the other hand, are sweltering. Your skin is shiny with sweat. Everything in you wants to jump right into the pool but you don’t.
It’s weird. For some reason you feel almost embarrassed to get in the pool. You know Steve offered but you know it was reluctantly. Also, you have no idea who these kids are and the idea of just jumping in the pool with them makes you nervous.
How pitiful, a bunch of high schoolers are scaring you.
You take a deep breath in. Maybe Robin will want to get in with you. You glanced towards Robin, who is currently sipping on whatever drink Steve gave her, eyebrows scrunched tightly. She’s gotten to the good part of her book, so you can count Robin out of getting into the water with you.
This is fine, you think. You’ll just sit here and tan away. Maybe Robin will make the decision soon to get in and you’ll jump at the opportunity to join her.
You turn from your stomach onto your back. You use your hand to block the sun but something bigger in front of you does the job for you.
Steve stands in front of you. “You’re gonna pass out from the heat.”
You move your hand to look at him. “What are you talking about Steven?”
You hear a chuckle come from the pool “Steven? You call him Steven?” You lean over to see who's laughing. You see one of the kids hanging on the pool wall, he’s got a silly little grin on his face.
Steve turns around, “No, no one calls me Steven”
“Liar, I call you Steven all the time.”
Steve turns back towards you, “Yeah and I tell you not to every time you do.”
“Why, what's so wrong with calling you Steven?”
“Uh, maybe the fact that it isn’t my name”
You gasp, “No way that isn’t your real name.”
Steve puts a hand on his hip, “Oh as if you don’t know what my real name is.”
You give him a look.”What's that supposed to mean? Is everyone just expected to know who you are and what your name is, big shot.”
“Okay that isn't what I meant”
You and Steve start to bicker back and forth but are silenced by a loud groan coming next from you.
Robin slams her book shut, “do you see what you started Henderson, they were doing so well.”
Henderson, that's the name of the instigator.
You go to sit up, “I was doing just well until Harrington over here came up to me and started bothering me.”
“Well I just thought that you looked hot and-” he cuts himself off, “not hot, well yes hot, you look sweaty and gross and yeah, you know.”
You all just stare at Steve, You don’t know what bothers you more, the fact that he called you sweaty and gross, or that he was staring long enough to notice how uncomfortable you were getting with the heat.
You hear a full on belly laugh, it comes from the Henderson kid. He shakes his head laughing and swims back over to the other kids.
This leaves you, Steve, and Robin in an awkward silence.
Robin finally puts her book down on the side table next to her, “Alright maybe it is time to get in the water.”
Oh bless Robin, she may not always pick up on social cues but you internally applaud her for picking up this one.
You get up and start walking towards the pool. Robin jumps right in. You’re about to head in when you feel someone tap your shoulder. You turn around fully to look and it Steve. You're about to ask him what his problem is but before you can he gives you a smug smile and pushes you.
You lose your footing and fall right into the pool. You feel a splash right next to you from under the water. You assume Steve jumped in right after you.
You feel beyond embarrassed and stay as long as you can under the water. Gravity defies your wishes and you begin to float back up to the surface of the water. When your head breaks through the water you gasp for air. All you can hear is everyone laughing, but in the mixture of laughs is Steves.
He’s laughing, you’ve never seen him laugh this hard before. You can’t help but feel a little less angry. The water feels amazing and that's enough to fully disperse your anger.
The kids get distracted by their own antics and Robin joins in with them. You sit back, not really a fan of getting splashed. Steve swims over to you, still giggling. You try your hardest not to smile but you can’t help it.
When he reaches you he speaks up, “I wish you could’ve seen your face, it was the most hilarious thing ever.”
You splash a bit of water towards him. “Yeah well I didn’t really expect to get flung into the water.”
Steve shrugs his shoulders,”What did you expect?” You give a small laugh, “more from you, but shame on me for having faith.” You both just giggle. You sit in silence for a bit, just watching Robin and the kids fight over the only two tubes in the pool.
You glance towards Steve. He’s got a real big smile on his face. The suns hitting him straight on. He’s glowing and it makes your heart beat faster.
No, no,no,no.
You are not doing this. This is not what you need. You have seen about a bazillion girls go down this same path and you will not end up like the rest of them.
You continue swimming towards the stairs, “I'm just gonna sit on the stairs for a bit.”
“Hey if the kids are being overwhelming with all the splashing, I can tell them to stop.”
No Steve it’s not the kids, it’s you but he doesn’t seem to get it as he continues to follow you to the steps.
You don’t know how to fend him off so you do what you always do, you be mean. “Gosh Harrington can you just go bother someone else.” You sat on the stairs and looked at him and you wished you hadn’t.
Steve has got this sad puppy look. His browns pinched and brown eyes wide. Before you can apologize he turns and starts swimming towards the rest of the group, muttering a small whatever.
You sit alone with a pit in your stomach. You see everyone having the time of their lives. It's better this way you think. Better for you, better for him, better for everyone.
------------------------------------------------------------
A couple of hours have passed and Steve has steered clear of you. You’ve all been going back and forth between the pool and the chairs.
The kids worked up a huge appetite so Steve ordered some pizza and now everyone was lounging around.
You haven’t felt any better than you did earlier and you think you’ve stayed long enough.
You walk up to Robin who’s floating on a tube in the pool.
You lean over the pool so you can catch her attention.
“Hey Rob I think I’m gonna head out.”
She sits up in her tube, “what, why, the pizza hasn’t even gotten here yet.”
“It’s okay I’m not that hungry. Plus it’s getting late and I forgot my glasses.”
Robin groans, “what did I tell you about you glasses, you gotta keep them in your car man.”
They are in your car, but at this point you’re looking for any excuse to leave.
“Steve can drive you home. He has to drive me home anyways.”
You give her a look. “Robin, you can’t just offer for him.”
She gives you a sheepish smile. “I’m sure Steve won’t mind.”
“Steve won’t mind what.” Oh gosh you feel like you’re gonna cry.
You both look at Steve as he repeats his question.
“You don’t mind driving her home right.”
Whatever you said about Robin and social cues, this is what you meant.
You shake your head. “No he doesn’t have to drive me home, it makes no sense and plus he probably has to take all the kids home anyways.” That should do it.
It doesn’t. “Actually Nance is coming to pick them up. They’re having a sleep over at Mikes.”
Oh, Nance, Nance, you’ve heard about her.
Nancy, super cool badass Nancy who Steve has been hung up on since high school Nancy.
With your new found feelings, you’d rather not see them interact so even more reason to leave.
“Well I-” Robin cuts you off
“At least stay for pizza”
You stare at her and then glanced towards Steve, he doesn’t say anything.
“Okay Rob, I’ll stay for pizza.”
Robin gives a small yes and floats away on her tube.
You're done with the pool and want to change. You see Steve heading inside and step after him.
“Hey, mind if I borrow the bathroom.”
He just nods. You wait for instructions on where it is but none come.
Steve looks at you with a “what” look on his face.
“um , where’s the bathroom?”
Steve starts walking without saying anything. You follow behind him.
He leads you up the stairs. Finally you reach a bathroom which you assume is his based on all the hair products sitting on the counter.
“You can use this one. The kids are taking turns in the one downstairs so they won’t bother you up here.”
That's actually..really generous.
“Do you mind if I take a quick shower to rinse off the chlorine? It’s starting to burn my eyes.”
Steve just nods. “Be my guest.”
He shuts the door behind him, leaving you in the bathroom.
You lock the door and shimmy out of your wet bathing suit. It takes you a minute to figure out the hot water but when you do, you crank it up.
Once in the shower, you look at all the fancy products Steve has. You grab a shampoo bottle and are immediately hit with a familiar scent. You shake your head and put the bottle down. You grab the body wash and it's the same thing all over again. You quickly use it then rinse off and get out.
You feel like you're losing it. Everything in this bathroom is overwhelming you and you need to get out, quickly.
You lather lotion all over yourself and finish throwing on your clothes and run out the bathroom with your wet clothes in hand. You scurry down the stairs and head towards the back door. You can immediately smell the pizza and are grateful that the scent takes over the smell of Steve's body wash on you.
You see everyone surrounding the pizza boxes. Steve is trying her best to keep things in order but there's only so much he can do against a band of hungry teenagers.
You see robin sitting at the outdoor table with two plates, she pats the seat next to her. You walk over to her with a small smile.
“Hey, I was trying to save you a slice of pepperoni but us grown ups might be stuck with the supreme.”
You pat her on the back “thanks for trying, I’m proud of you either way.”
Robin smiles at the praise and hands you a plate with a supreme slice on it.
You take it but cant help but look at it with a bit of disdain. You actually don’t like supreme but you’ve actually worked up an appetite, so supreme will do.
Eventually each kid starts taking a seat at the table with you guys. You guys small talk until the Henderson kid gives you a compliment on your shirt. You give thanks and look down at it, thats when it dawns on you that it isn’t yours.
The shirt belonged to an ex of yours, you said you’d throw out all his things but you kept most of the t-shirts he left behind. They make great lounge shirts.
“Um thanks, it's actually my exes.” all the kids giggle and Robin gasps at you.
“What the heck, I should’ve known something was going on, that would explain why he asks about you every time he comes into the store.”
This is news to you and before you can defend yourself you hear Steve mumble a quiet “is that who that is ?”
It throws you off for a bit but then you and Robin start bickering back and forth about said ex.
Steve clears his throat loudly, “I’ll be back,” and with that he heads inside.
Robin rolls her eyes at him “dramatic much?” The kids laugh again and everyone starts chowing down on their pizzas.
You and Robin chat with the kids. They have you laughing so hard that you tear up a bit. You can see why Robin cares for them so much. You all continue to chat until you hear another set of laughs coming from the back door.
You all turn to look and you see Steve and Nancy. Steve looks at her like he’s hanging onto every sentence that comes out of her mouth You look down at your plate, you start to get that obnoxious feeling in your stomach and feel your heart pick up.
All the kids yell in unison “Nancyy!”
She laughs, “hey guys, had fun?”
They answer with their own responses.
Steve and Nancy come to sit down at the table where everyone else is.
Steve grabs a seat next to you and Nancy next to him. You want to get up and move but you feel like that might be a bit of an overreaction.
Steve grabs a plate and puts a slice on it and hands it over to Nancy, just like its second nature.
Nancy gives him a small thank you and starts eating her slice. You can't help looking back and forth between your plate and hers, you feel embarrassed.Your plate is filled with all the veggies you picked off your slice, while everyone else is eating it just fine.
Robin interrupts your internal conflict by leaning over to talk to Nancy.
“Hey Nance, this is my best friend by the way.”
Nancy puts her plate down and reaches her hand out to you, “hey it's really nice to meet you, I’ve heard a lot about you.”
You reach your hand across Steve to meet hers, “It’s great to meet you too, I hope it's been all things good.” She just smiles and nods. Steve lets out a snort after your comment. You do your best to just ignore him.
Everyone starts chattering away as you continue to pick at your pizza.
Out of nowhere Steve lets out a sigh and looks over towards you.
“What's the point of getting a supreme slice if you're not even gonna eat it right.”
You feel your face flush out of embarrassment at him calling you out.
“There weren't any pepperoni slices left.”
“So then just eat the pizza that's left.” he says with a mean tone to his voice.
“That's literally what I'm doing right now.”
“No you aren't, you practically picked everything off your slice, its just bread.”
You're starting to get annoyed with his comments. “Okay I don’t like what’s on a supreme slice , is that a crime?”
“Not a crime, it's just a waste.”
At this point you can feel everyone quieting around you. You know that your arguments with Steve are a form of entertainment for others but you don’t want to argue. However, against your better judgment, you continue.
“What is it with you today Harrington? You are especially intolerable today.”
He scoffs, “you ever consider the fact its because I am having to spend more time than usual with you.”
Ouch
“Okay, you were the one who invited me over.”
There's a shift in the air. Everyone around you can tell that this isn't just some silly bickering. Robin tries to change the subject but Steve just can’t let it go.
“Yeah, well that was for Robin and in all honesty I thought you’d have the decency not to show up, all things considered.”
Everyone goes dead silent, no more lingering chatter.
“Considering what Harrington?” you urge him on, you really want to hear him say it. For a second you think he’ll hold his tongue but then he blurts it out.
“Considering I despise you.” he’s quiet for a second but not for long. “You’ve got no shame you know, showing up to someone's house even though you’ve done nothing but shit on them every chance you get.”
Robin chair screeches from next to you. “Steve! What the hell?!”
Everyone stares at you wide-eyed, all expecting a quick whipped insult back. It never comes. You don’t have anything to say to Steve Harrington and you don’t think you ever will after this.
You quietly get up from your chair with your plate in hand. Your legs wobble a bit as you stand and Robin reaches for your arm, urging you not to leave. Robin's puppy eyes won't get you this time.
You grab your bag of things and speed walk to the back door. Once you’ve open the door, you can hear a hush chorus of what the hell’s. You drop your plate in the sink and walk through the house to get to your car.
You hear footsteps, and don't know who to expect. When you turn around you get surprised when you see Nancy standing right in front of you.
She approaches you with wariness
“Hey, I just wanted to check on you, make sure you're good to drive.”
You give a pitiful fake laugh, “yeah, i’m fine, I just really have to head out now.”
She walks with you, “that's not like him, well not anymore, I don’t really know what that was.”
“Look Nancy, I don't need you to defend him to me. That's how it's always been between the two of us. I think he’s right, no more long periods of time with the two of us.”
Nancy gives a sad smile, you know she can see right through you and you hate it.
“I’ve never really seen him act like this, but I don’t think he despises you, I’ve seen Steve hate and that isn’t it.”
You know she’s just trying to make you feel better but the whole ‘I know him’ spiel just makes your heart ache even more. Nancy does know Steve in that manner and you can’t stand it even after him blowing up on you.
You give Nancy a small smile and tell her goodbye.
You finally get into your car and rummage around for your glasses. You can’t find them. You can't help but laugh. You really didn’t have your glasses all this time. You turn your brights on, in hopes that it makes seeing a bit easier.
------------------------------------------------------------
You’ve been home for a while now and still are unable to sleep. Your brain is running a mile a minute and you’ve given up trying to lay down. You're sitting at your window staring out into space. You replay the conversation with Steve. You could still hear the way his voice raised and you can see the scowl on his face everytime you close your eyes.
You can’t just sit here, you’ve got to go and do something, anything to get your brain to just stop its constant buzzing. You grab your keys and a jacket as you head out your room. You don’t even bother changing out of your pajamas as you sneak out the side door. Your parents are heavy sleepers so you doubt they hear the engine turn but if they do that's just something youll deal with when you get back home.
You drive until you find a gas station that's still open. When you walk in, the cashier gives you an odd look. You ignore him as you go to grab all the snacks you crave. You usually have some self restraint but you think of it as a treat to make up for the day you had.
You walk out with a back full of candy and chips in one hand and an icy in the other.
When you make it back home you’re gathering your things when you see a car slowly rolling down the road. Still with no glasses, all you can do is squint really hard to try and make out the car. You see the car park two houses down the road and turn off. They sit in their car for a moment but finally you see the car door swing open. You decide that you might need to hurry inside.
you inhale sharply when you see the person making their way down the sidewalk, this time a lot closer than before. You start to speed walk to the side door.
All is well you think, until you hear a ‘hey’ come from behind you. You ignore it as you try your best to get your hands to stop shaking to unlock the door. You hear it again expect this time closer.
You freak out and the only thing you can do is chuck your slushy at whoever came up behind you and scream.
That's when you finally hear a string of curses from a voice that sounds oddly familiar.
You look over at the shadow figure and squint really hard. “Harrington?”
Steve, who now has slushy all over him looks up. “Yes, yes it's me Steve. Dude what the actual hell?” He looks back down at his shirt and tries to wipe pieces of frozen slushy off his shirt.
You look at him bewildered. Is he saying what the hell to you? After running up on you like some freak in the night?
“Hey that's my line, what else did you expect. You can't just creep up on a girl in the middle of the night, it's not right.”
Steve goes to argue back but you both see the light turn through the side door window.
You look back at each other with wide eyes.
“go, go hide somewhere.” you whisper shout to Steve, urging him to go anywhere that isnt right in front of your door.
He quickly rounds the corner of the house right as the side door opens. Your mother is standing in her robe with a frantic look on her sleepy face.
“What on earth is happening out here?”
“Oh, I was throwing away some trash.” you point to the bag in your hand, “then i saw some sort of critter run away from the trash cans.”
Your mom seems to believe your story. “Oh my gosh, did you see what it was?”
You shake your head. “No, i dont have my glasses.” you hope Steve is listening for the next part. “But I bet it was ugly and I hope it never comes back.”
Your mom’s too tired to pick up on your tone and just shakes her head back at you. “Why are you throwing away trash right now?”
“You know me and my late night cleaning.”
Yeah, you got her there. “Okay well don't forget to lock the door when you come back in, also please keep it down.”
“Sure thing mom, love you.” she gives a “love you too honey” and walks back towards her room.
You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding. You head over to where Steve was hiding. When you round the corner you see Steve standing there still trying to get the slushy off of him. You can't see much in the dark but you know for a fact that his shirt is ruined.
“What on earth are you doing here?”
Steve doesn’t look up at you, he just continues to fidget with his shirt.
“I don’t know, I was dropping Robin off. We talked for a bit and she gave me your address. I think I want to talk”
“You think you want to talk?”
“Yeah.”
Um, “about?”
“You ask a lot of questions.”
You scoff, “I think they’re warranted, all things considered.”
“True true, you got me there.”
You can’t really stand seeing a blurry Steve with red slushy dripping off of him so you speak before you can really think about it.
“Do you wanna come in?”
Steve finally looks up at you. “Like inside?”
“Where else would we be going?”
“But your parents are home.”
You let out an annoyed breath “Look you don't have to if you don't want to. I was just offering so you could get all that'' you motion towards his shirt, “off of you.”
Steve answers the second the sentence comes out your mouth. “Yes, yes, I’d like to come inside.”
“Okay well, come on.”
After asking him to take off his shoes, you have him sneak up the stairs as quietly as he can.
Once in your room you close the door behind you and lock it. Now that you're both in your room, you start to panic. You quickly look around to make sure there isn’t anything weird laying around. Steve doesn't seem like who knows where to look either. His eyes jump from item to item, scanning everything around your room.
You sort of have a deja vu moment to earlier when you were staring at everything in his house.
You clear your throat. “Um, through that door is the bathroom if you want to rinse off. I can find something that you can wear.”
You go to your drawers and rummage through until you find a shirt and shorts that you think will fit him. “Here, I think these should work.”
Steve takes the clothes from your hands. “More of your ex's clothes?” you think he’s trying to make a joke but his tone seems more upset than joking.
“No, that's actually my brother's old clothes.”
“Oh, well I’m gonna wash up.”
Before you can respond, Steve shuts the bathroom door behind him and you hear the shower turn on.
A bit of time passes and you hear the shower turn off, a bit of rummaging comes from the bathroom and finally Steve walks out. He’s got your brother's clothes on and his dirty clothes in hand.
“Is there any way I can try washing this?”
Now's probably not the best time to run the washer. “I think it’ll wake my parents.”
“Right” Steve nods.
“I can try scrubbing it in the sink.”
“Yeah , I’d appreciate it.”
You walk up and grab the shirt out of his hands. You go into the bathroom and he follows behind you. You reach under your sink and take out some bleach and a scrub. Steve takes a seat on the edge of the tub behind you.
There's no sound but the faucet running and you scrubbing at the stains on his shirt. Once you've scrubbed as hard as you can, you ring out the shirt and hang it on the towel rack.
“I couldn't get it all out but I think I did some damage.”
“Thanks, I really appreciate it.”
There's a pause, “I deserved it.”
Agreed. “Yeah , you really scared me.”
Steve shakes his head. “Not for that.”
You immediately know what he’s talking about and the mention of it seems to reignite whatever irritation you had for him.
“Yeah, talk about hospitality.” Steve doesn't seem to enjoy your sarcastic tone but he takes it nonetheless.
“Look, I was really irritated and everything you were saying was just really setting me off and” he pauses. “ if I could just explain my perspective I think you’d be able to under-”
Is he really telling you how irritating you were being?
You cut him off before he can finish. “What did you come over for?”
“What?”
“What did you come over for? Was it to apologize because where you were headed didn't sound like an apology.”
He gives no answer.
“I’d rather you not apologize if you don’t mean it.”
“I think we both have some apologizing to do.”
That throws you for a loop. “What do I have to apologize for?” Steve huffs, “You aren’t exactly innocent in all of this.”
“I didn’t embarrass you in front of a group of people you’ve just met. I also didn't kick you out of my house, which I'm thinking I should do now.”
“Woah, I did not kick you out of my house.”
You scoff, “Might as well have but don't worry, I now have the decency to never show up again.” you’re being mean and you know it but you can’t help it. Everything is so back and forth with Steve and you can’t help but revert back to where you guys started.
Fighting, saying mean things to one another should feel normal but it doesn't. You see Steve's face and he looks so defeated and usually that has no effect on you but it does this time.
“I don’t want to argue with you. It’s late and I’m tired.”
Steve goes to say something else but you beat him to it. “Aren't you tired?” Steve knows you’re not just talking about the time of night. He knows what you’re insinuating.
You let out a sigh and slump into the counter behind you. “Some people just don’t get along. Forcing a relationship isn’t going to get us anywhere.”
Steve looks up from the ground “What’s that supposed to mean?”
You give a small shrug, you fiddle with your nails. “Maybe we just need to steer clear. It makes Robin uncomfortable, I can see it.” Steve stays quiet so you continue.
“She’s my best friend and I love her and for some reason she loves you just as much. I don’t want her to choose.” Robins is really good at hiding it in small jokes and jabs but you can see it in her face when you and Steve argue. Everyone else sees it as silly bickering but Robin knows the extent of it, she hears both sides constantly nagging about the two people she loves the most.
Steve finally speaks up “Yeah, I’ve picked up on that too.” you both make eye contact and Steve’s eyes still look so sad. “So what, we just ignore each other, I don’t think that’ll make Robin any happier.”
You let out a laugh and Steve looks at you bewildered. “What’s so funny?”
“We sound like divorced parents, like we're trying to figure out what the best course of action is for our kid.” Steve doesn’t find it as funny and you don’t get why, he seems genuinely distraught and you can't help but point it out.
“Why so serious? This is like a dream come true for you.”
Steve stands up from the tub and walks a few a couple steps and ends up right in front of you.
“You’re an idiot.” Is he serious right now? He wants to go again?
“What the actual hell is your problem? I am trying to be civil and you’re being an assho-”
“I’m an idiot too.” Okay, what is going on? Steve steps a bit closer and you try to scoot away but you're stopped by the counter behind you. He’s so close to you, you can smell your body wash and shampoo on him.
“Did you use my soap?”
He gives a simple “yes” and proceeds, “did you want to just sit in the water and not actually clean myself?”
“Well I didn’t know the hair could stand anything under a thirty dollar range.”
Steve doesn’t look as sad any more and you’re even more confused. “No, not usually, but I made an exception tonight.”
You're arguing with Steve, at least you think you are, but you second guess yourself because Steve seems sooo… bubbly?
You focus in, “okay we need to finish talking.”
Steve just shakes his head. “I don’t want to talk about that anymore.”
what.is.happening?
“Can I tell you what I came for?”
“We already discussed this, you came to tell me how annoying I am and yada yada.”
Steve shakes his head again. “No, you never really let me finish. You just kind of ran with the conversation.”
That's…kinda true.
You stay quiet and let him speak.
Steve lets out a sigh. “I was irritated. I had been on edge all day at the idea of you coming over to my house. I was scared to have someone who I don’t get along with in my space. I was even more nervous to see how things would be around all the kids.”
He pauses, you bump your knee with his to get him to continue. “The way I get with you, I don’t act like that in front of the kids or really with anyone. I’m never sure where we will go and it was all unsettling, but then you got there and everything was fine and the kids thought we were a hoot and things felt, well, normal.”
You nod your head agreeing, things were fine. “It was going great but then you got all defensive again and it threw me off, kinda brought me back to reality. The reality is that you don’t like me.”
He inhales deeply before releasing it and continuing . “It upset me because I don’t feel that way about you, not anymore. At first yeah, you totally annoyed the shit out of me, but after time I found myself annoying you on purpose. If it got you to talk to me then it would do. Trust me I still felt bothered by you every now and then but it was different.”
Whatever realization you just had today, Steve had it a while ago.
You look down at Steve’s hands and they clench at his sides, and then he does something that surprises you. Steve brings his hands to rest on the counter behind you. He’s now trapped you in between his arms, but you don’t feel trapped, you feel oddly okay with this.
You and Steve are so close now, you can really smell your body wash lingering off of him. It makes your cheeks heat up. The idea of him in your shower, using your products like it’s no big deal feels intimate.
You look down at your feet to try and hide your blush but Steve brings his head down to find your eyes. When you look back up Steve’s got a serious look on his face.
“Not that you have to respond, but I'm not gonna lie, I'm so nervous right now I might die.”
You let out a laugh and Steve smiles at you, “you’re so dramatic.” Steve nods, “yeah, i'm all sorts of things when it comes to you.”
You feel like you can’t breathe, Steve has become so earnest in a matter of minutes and you don’t know how to handle it. You panic and say the first thing that comes to mind. “And what about you and Nancy?”
Steve looks upset for a second but then his face morphes into confusion, “What about me and Nacy.”
You shrug, trying to seem indifferent, “ Robins always going on about how hung up you are on her.”
“You know if I didn’t love Robin so much, I'd really put her through the ringer.”
You nod your head in agreement, Rob can be a bit much sometimes. Steve continues, “I think she interpreted that all wrong, I do talk about Nancy, that's true, but it’s not because I’m hung up on her.” he sighs, “I treated her pretty badly and I regret it so much and I think I always will but there's nothing with Nancy, that's over, closed, done .”
“Oh and, she’s got a boyfriend and they’re really great together and I'm happy fo-”
You cut Steve off by bringing your hand up to cover his mouth , “okay okay I get it. Point proven.”
You can feel him smile from under your hand, he lifts one of his hands up to grab yours. When he does, he keeps it in his hold. You flex your hand in his, not knowing what to do, he grips your hand tighter, thinking you're trying to pull away.
You both stand there for a minute before you gain the courage to speak. “What does this mean, for us?”
Steves quick to respond. “Whatever you want it to mean, if you want it to mean anything.”
He’s got a hopeful look in his eyes and you just can't turn him down, not anymore.
“I, Look, this is all very new to me. A couple hours ago I thought I was going to drown you in your own pool but now, drowning you doesn't seem as appealing to me.”
Steve laughs, like fully laughs, and for a moment you're scared your parents are going to hear him, but you're too distracted by him to care.
“Oh my gosh, talk about the confession of the century. Your’e not really good at this.”
Your’e mildly offended. “Yes I am, this is just different.”
“Was it different with your ex boyfriend too?”
Oh seriously?
“Why are we talking about my ex boyfriend right now? He’s not relevant to the conversation.”
No I guess not but since we’re on the topic, what's all that about?”
You give him a questionable look. “Whats’ my ex all about?”
“Yeah”
“um , he’s a guy that I dated, and then we broke up?”
You're questionable because you don't really know what he’s looking for.
Steve drops your hand to lean forward on the counter again. You can't help but be a little sad, just a little.
“Oh wow really, no, I mean why’s he always asking about you and why do you still have his clothes?”
You give a little shrug, “I actually had no idea he was asking about me, I really need to ask rob about that and I kept some of his shirts because, well, they're comfortable.”
Steve blinks at you. “Because they're comfortable?”
You nod.
Steve chuckles and leans in to put his head on your shoulder. “I'm gonna lose my mind, I really am.”
Woah woah woah, if you thought you were blushing before, you really are now.
Steve goes to lift his head up and you quickly push it back onto your shoulder. You’ll be damned if he sees you blushing this hard.
Steve laughs again and you can't help but laugh with him.
“Um, what's going on?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing?”
“Mhm.”
You take a moment to really feel Steve’s hair and you're honestly a little jealous. Never in your life have you felt hair as smooth and silky as his. You continue and rub your hand through his locks. You’re not really holding his head down anymore but he makes no effort to lift it up.
You hear him sigh and it knocks you out of your daze. You lift your hand up and Steve shoots his head up.
“Why’d you stop?”
“What?”
He just repeats the question. “I- I don't know, I just thought that I should?”
Steve shakes his head, “man you're really out of your element here huh?”
You get defensive. “Uh no I am not, I just,” you let out a breath, “ Steve, I meant it when i said things are different with you but it's not a bad different, it's a good different and I think that- ”
Steve stops your rambling, eyes wide. “Did you just call me Steve?”
You stop to think, you didn't even realize you had.
“That is your name isn't it?”
Steve says nothing for a moment and then out of nowhere his hands are on your sides. He pulls you forward. You gasp in shock.
Steve looks you right in the eyes and asks “say it again.”
You play coy “it again.” Steve lets out a frustrated groan and gives your hips a shake “say my name again. If you don't, I think I might die.”
He’s really pulling out all the stops and he’s almost got you “Say please.”
Steve is as close as he’s ever been when he whispers a quiet “please”
You say his name even quieter but he’s close enough to pick it up
“Steve.”
There's a split second where Steve stares at you with a look that has so much meaning and all you do is nod and he’s invaded your space fully.
Steve kisses you with such urgency, like he’s waited his whole life for this moment and you can't help but meet him with the same furocity.
He’s obviously very skilled and the thought of all his past endeavors have you feeling green but as if he can read your mind, Steve pulls you in even closer, pressing himself against you.
You think you could do this forever but your lungs are demanding air.
Steve doesn't let you pull away for any longer than a second, each gasp of air is eaten by him right after. You can't help but smile into the kisses. Steve pays no mind and just lands kiss after kiss after kiss. You feel so light headed and airy, you think you’ll faint if this goes on any longer.
You bring your hands to his hair again, which elicits a groan from Steve. That alone makes you want to continue but you’ve got to breathe. You grab a hold of his locks and pull gently, Steve pulls away long enough for you to say his name again. Another groan follows.
He’s rushing forward, eyes on your lips, when you grip his hair tighter, he winces and you immediately rush to apologize.
“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry, I just needed a minute and that's the only thing I could think of.”
Steve pants out a response. “Next time you wanna stop, definitely don't do that cause that does not make me want to stop.”
It doesn't take much time for you to get how he’s insinuating.
You run your hands along the spots that you tugged on, hoping to soothe the sting.
“I'm sorry Steve.”
The sweet tone in your voice has Steve back on you, kissing along your jaw.
“Say.”
Kiss
“It.”
Kiss
“Again.”
You let out a sweet sigh, “Steve”
“Again.” he says as he makes his trail down the side of your neck.
you breathe out an airy laugh, “Steve”
you’d say his name a million times, over and over again, if this is what it got you.
Finally, after what feels like forever, Steve pulls away.
“You're gonna get tired of your own name if you keep making me say it.” you say teasingly
Steve’s still holding you close, “No way, not if it’s you saying it.”
You hum. You both stand close, basking in each other's presence when all the sudden you hear a loud crack.
You and Steve both jump at the sound. You both walk out the bathroom hand in hand. Steve gets in front of you, like he’s trying to protect you from whatever made the noise. It makes your heart stutter.
When you both walk into your room you notice that rain is coming down hard and you’ve still got your window open.
“Shit” you say scurrying over to the window.
Steve comes up right behind you to help push the window down. He does so with little effort of course.
You both linger and suddenly something comes to mind. “It's raining.”
“I see that.” Steve gives you a little smirk. “Pretty hard too.”
You nod “yeah, as your host” you pause to make sure he’s paying attention, “I just can't, with a conscious mind, let you drive in that rain. It's for your safety.”
Steve nods aggressively, “of course, of course.”
You clap your hands, “well that's that.” without another word, you drag him over to your bed. You throw your hoard of pillows onto the ground and fall onto your bed. Steve stands still, not really sure what to do.
“Whatcha thinking about?”
Steve, still standing, says “things, many many things.”
You scoot into a comfortable position and pat the spot next to you “woah you move fast, freak.”
Steve gives an offended look but finally goes to lay down next to you. You both lay there, facing one another.
“I didn’t even say anything.”
You bring your hand up to flick him on the forehead, “you didn't have to, I can see it in your eyes.”
Steve grabs your hand before you can pull it away. “Whatever, you’re imagining things.” Steve tries his best to change the subject but you can see his face turning red.
“Steve,” you say, dragging his name, “are you blushing right now?”
Steve goes to cover your eyes, “Shut up, aren't you blind? You’re seeing things.”
You pry his hand away. “I am not blind.” you say, going to pinch his sides.
Steve tries and succeeds in pinning your hands down, he’s above you grinning. “Why are you insistent on harming me all of a sudden? Is it like a kink or something?”
You feel your face heat up, “what? Absolutely not. And what about you with the hair pulling?”
Steve is stunned silent. “Lets…. Let's not go there.”
Still with your hand pinned, “I think we should actually, you seem to really get a kick out of me yanking on your hair, I can only imagine what else you like being yan-”
Steve cuts you off with a bruising kiss and as much as you like teasing him, this is much much better.
Steve kisses with so much passion, almost like he can’t help it, it makes you get that sickly sweet feeling in your stomach.
Obviously distracted, he lets go of your hands and they immediately fly up to his hair. You think you might be obsessed with it.
Steve runs his hands up and down your body, your shirt scrunching up due to this. Steve wastes no time and slides his hands under your shirt to feel your skin. This causes you to gasp into his mouth. Steve likes this reaction, grinning into your lips.
You bring your legs to wrap around his back and pull him down. Steve stumbles a bit and is now pressing himself into you.
You break apart from him, gasping for air. Steve immediately kisses a trail down your neck. Hands still in his hair, eyes closed, you let out a blissful sigh.
Deciding to be a bit mischievous, Steve nips at different spots on your neck, eliciting small sounds from you, until he finally finds a spot that has you bringing a hand to cover your mouth.
You feel like you're floating, like you're dreaming and none of this is real. Is this real?
You lay your hands on the sides of Steve's face and lift. When he looks up, he’s looking at you with the dreamiest eyes. You need to reach a stopping point but with that look you just can't help it.
One more, you think. You guide him up to kiss you again and this time it’s so sweet you think you might cry.
One more turns into two, then a dozen more.
Finally after what feels like an eternity, you find yourselves with Steve resting his head in the crook of your neck, still kissing the skin there from time to time.
You lay there, running your hands through his hair, everyone now and then getting a sound of approval.
Steve breaks the silence first. “You know earlier, at my house, I really did feel like a freak.”
You give a small laugh. “What? Why?”
Steve, still with his face buried in your neck, “You were sitting in your bathing suit and you were legitimately glistening in the sun, and I could not for the life of me, stop looking.”
That's why you felt like someone was watching you, you'd just never assume it was him.
Steve continues, “that's when i decided to get you into the pull, I thought that if I pushed you in, you’d look like a wet dog and all would be well.”
You scoff and slap the side of his head “real nice Steve.”
He laughs, “let me finish” you can feel his hands fiddling at your side. “That totally backfired on me because you came up from the water and it was like, in slow motion, and you were laughing, like actually laughing and in that moment I could have died.”
“Steve, how's this gonna work? I can't have you almost dying every time I'm being a total babe, because that's like all the time.”
Steve nods in agreement. “Oh yeah, totally not good for my health at all, but you’re worth it.”
This makes your heart swell.
You both fall into a comfortable silence. You feel your eyelids getting heavier and heavier. You can feel Steve’s breathing getting slower as well. Before you realize, you both drift off to sleep.
——————————————————————————
When you stir awake, you’re lost for a split second before you remembered what all transpired last night. It's still pouring rain outside and you have no will to get out of bed, not that you could anyways. You don't know how, but Steve has managed to get most of his body laying on yours, head still tucked away and arm tightly wrapped around your waist.
You're totally fine laying like this until you get the urge to pee. You’re squirming finally wakes him up and for a moment you're hopeful that you can be freed to use the restroom. Steves blinks at you but then just closes his eyes and tightens his arm around you.
“Steveee.” he ignored you. “Steve, I have to get up.”
Steve shakes his head and gives a simple no.
“Yes, I have to. I have to go to the-”
You go quiet when you hear the stairs squeak from outside your door.
Now you really start to panic and yet, Steve is still insistent on holding you down.
You whisper now “Steve, no more jokes, it's my parents.” This has Steve shooting his head up, eyes now equally as wide as yours.
He lets you go and before he can say anything, you shoot out of bed and start throwing all your pillows and throw blankets over him into a big pile. He looks lost and you whisper to him. “Don't move, matter of fact, don't breathe.” and you throw one more pillow right onto his face.
You go to your door right as you hear a knock. You crack your door open slightly and see your mom.
“Good morning”
“Good morning.” you say, trying to sound normal.
You hear your dad from down stairs yelling that he’ll be in the car.
Your mom yells that she’ll be right there.
They’re leaving? Score!
Your mom looks you up and down. “We're heading to your aunts for breakfast, we’ll be back a bit later.”
You nod, trying to be nonchalant. “Yeah yeah, sounds good.”
You pray that's all but your mom says something else.
“Im assuming the animal came back last night.”
“um , what mom?”
Shes got a funny smile on her face, “the critter that scared you last night, it came back right.”
Ooooh, you’re done for.
You both look down the stairs when you hear the front door close. Youre mom looks back at you.
“Whatever is going on, we’ll talk later okay?”
You nod defeatingly. “Yeah okay.”
Your mom ruffles your hair through the crack in the door.
“And hunny?”
“Yes?”
“Go uncover that poor boy before you suffocate him to death.” and with that she walks down the stairs and you hear the door close for the second time.
Your a bit stunned at your door but your knocked out of it when you hear steve rise up from his pile, gasping for air.
You turn around and walk towards him. “Soooo my mom totally knows your here.”
He winces, “yeah I could kinda hear her.”
You sit down next to him. “On the brightside, it looks like my dad didn’t.”
Steve gives you a look. “Is that a brightside?” you nod your head. “Oh yeah, my dad would have killed you.”
Steve’s eyes go wide and you can't help but bust out in laughter. In a rush, he grabs you and has you both falling back into the bed.
“Don't play like that, you’re gonna give me a heart attack.” you pat his chest. “Oh that definitely wasn't a joke, you should definitely fear the old man.”
Steve gulps. “I dont know whats worse, that or trying to explain all of this to Rob.”
Oh damn. Robin.
You sigh. “That might take the cake.” Steve gives a mhm.
You sit up and swing you legs over Steve’s legs, now straddling him.
“We could sit and talk about how your ass is grass orrr we could do something else.”
Steves hands come up to grip your waist. “The second option, definitely the second option.”
“I like your thinking Harrington.” Steve gives you a look and pulls you down for a bruising kiss.
You’re absolutely done for.
You think this is a slippery situation. Steve will be able to get away with a lot when he finds out that all he has to do is kiss you. You think it might be the same for him.
Steve gives your side a pinch and you gasp into his mouth. This has him sliding his tongue into yours. His hands find their way under your shirt and caress your bare sides.
Steve continues with his slow languid kisses and you think that you won’t be able to live through another morning if it’s not like this.
You smile at your inner thoughts, finding it funny how his dramatics have rubbed off on you. Steve doesn’t question it and continues.
When you two finally pull away you go to lay next to him. Staying up super late and waking up early, the tiredness begins to creep up on you both.
No more words are spoken. With the rain pouring down and your room still being gloomy from the clouds, you decide that sleeping again is inevitable. Steve seems to agree as he’s already got his eyes closed and arm thrown around your stomach.
Everything can wait, you think.
Your mom
Robin
Your dad
The whole world for all you care.
With one final glance towards Steve, you close your eyes and are lulled to sleep by the rain hitting the roof.
——————————————————————————
Helloooo! I’m literally crying, this took me so long but I love it, I love them. I have so much more for them.

how do i know it’s true? ; steve harrington
synopsis: to steve, nothing involving the upside down could surprise him after everything him & the gang have gone through. until you get taken by vecna—the worst thing steve has ever witnessed.
warnings: swearing, mentions of trauma, blood & injuries, anxiety, possibility of dying, possession, general angst & vecna (yes, that creepy dude needs his own warning). but don’t worry, there’s fluff scattered in between.
note: this fic is inspired by the blue nile’s “the downtown lights” (let’s pretend it came out before season 3 plz) & phoebe bridgers’ “garden song”!
read part 2 here (coming soon!)
for a moment, everything was fine.
well, your definition of fine was watching your friends climb up a makeshift rope of bed sheets from the upside down gate in eddie’s trailer. you couldn’t help but let out a few laugh sat their reactions when they landed on the mattress eddie had placed beneath the gate as a landing pad.
this was your normal now; casually going in & out of dimensions to solve supernatural puzzles & attempt to save the day all while wondering if you were ever going to finish your algebra homework (you secretly knew you wouldn’t ever find the time).
steve, being the helpful man he’s known to be, was kneeled on the ground with his hands cupped so he could hoist each person up towards safety despite his abdomen aching in pain from bat bites. he truly was your hero.
when it came to be your turn to climb, you couldn’t help but run a hand through his hair.
“chivalry sure isn’t dead, huh?” you ruffled his locks of brown & amber, feeling your heart beat a second faster when he smiled & scrunched his nose cutely at your action.
“definitely not when it comes to you” he winked smoothly, feeling pride in his chest when you grinned wider at him.
“okay, time to hop on up miss”
gripping onto the rope of sheets, you felt a pit in your stomach start to build, but steve tapping the back of your jean covered thigh snapped you out of it.
“i gotcha, don’t worry” he assured with a determined look in his eyes.
like hell he was ever gonna drop you.
so with a nod of your head, you lifted your left foot onto steve’s cupped hands & felt him push you up.
but then everything went black.
at first, you thought your nervous system may of just forced you to shut your eyes in fear of going head first & falling upside down through the gate (you still could not fathom the physics that explained how it worked), but to no avail, all you saw was black.
soon enough, you couldn’t feel the rope.
you couldn’t hear steve or your friends talking.
you couldn’t feel steve.
now, you were starting to panic.
just as you were about to scream, you felt something sharp on your neck. a long nail dragging across your skin too softly to break the skin. the hairs on your arms stood up, goosebumps littered your body, & all you could do was freeze.
“i think you know why you’re here,” a chilling voice whispered into your right ear, making you cringe as you felt the creatures warm breath fan against your skin.
vecna had you trapped. fuck.
“you know, living with the guilt you’ve harboured for so long must be quite exhausting—isn’t it?”
no, no, no, no. this can’t be happening.
“knowing that if you had kept your mouth shut, your anger controlled, that maybe—just maybe, your father would still be alive”
in a flash you were transported back to that haunted day, back to that road trip that your father forced you to go on. you never had a good relationship with him to begin with, so being stuck in a small space for seven hours wasn’t your ideal way to spend a weekend.
it was a few months after your parents finally divorced after years of fighting, screaming, family dinners that were unsuccessful. your father had wanted to bond, to atone whatever trauma he had inflicted upon you as a young child from refusing marriage counselling (or counselling in general) to work on his behaviour.
but as expected, he was too prideful to admit he was ever in the wrong.
which leads you to that moment in the car.
he blamed you for whatever wrong turn he had made a couple miles back, & since you were the one holding the map, it began a screaming match that festered into a tug of war. you tried to get him to let go of your wrists, to let you lead you both out of the barren forest covered dirt roads so you could ge to wherever the hell he wanted to take you to, but he wouldn’t budge.
however, one wrong move changed it all.
it was when you elbowed him the eye accidentally, causing him to yell in agony & involuntarily push his right foot harder on the gas. he wasn’t paying attention to his speed, nor the way the steering wheel was turning.
one minute you were on a dirt road.
the next you were upside down on a rocky ditch that was at least thirty feet from where the dirt road was.
your vision was blurry with blood from a cut on your forehead. your right ankle aching & smushed tight between your car seat & the concaved passenger door.
your father, who hadn’t worn his seatbelt, was partially through the car’s windshield, body covered in glass & blood & you couldn’t tell if he was breathing.
you stayed like that for hours, with the car alarm blaring in your ears until a first ranger showed up as your saving grace.
but your father didn’t survive. & you still believed it was all your fault.
“wouldn’t it be nice if you could let it go? atone for what you did? stop the guilt from eating away at you?” vecna’s voice boomed in your ears.
you were paralyzed in fear, praying this moment would be over.
*~*~*~***~*~~*~*~**~*~*~~*
“you got a good grip, y/n/n?” steve asked after you stilled for a moment, left foot still in the palms of his hands, waiting to be boosting upwards.
you stayed silent. frozen.
steve called out your name again as your grip loosened on the rope & your body began tipping backwards. he quickly reacted, catching your limp body in time before your head smacked the ground.
his heart stopped when he saw your eyes rolling into the back of your head.
“no… no, no, no, no! fuck! please, please not you—not you” steve yelled, his hands cradling your face & occasionally slapping your cheeks gently with hopes you’d snap out of it—hoping vecna would let you out of his grasp so steve could make it better.
“steve? what’s going on down there?” robin yelled, her voice echoing into steve’s ears but his heart was constricting & his chest felt really heavy.
“he’s got her—he’s fucking got her & she’s not waking up! no, no, no, no!” steve yelled again, tears brimming his eyes in fear because he could lose you right now.
brushing your hair out of your face frantically, steve continued tapping your skin. “sweetheart, you gotta wake up please. it’s steve—i’m right here. can you hear me? follow my voice? c’mon, please come back—come back to me, baby” he croaked as the minutes went on, drowning out the panicked voices in the gate above him.
“what do i do? what do i do—“
“steve! what’s her favourite song? we need her favourite song!” dustin yelled repeatedly, trying to wake steve up from his own panic mode.
it clicked—how could steve forget.
music.
“holy shit. that’s it. favourite song, favourite song…” steve began to feel hopeful, scouring his mind through a rolodex of memories until he found the one he was looking for.
“the downtown lights by the blue nile! the cassette’s in my glovebox! hurry!” he yelled with a heartbroken plea, his eyes not leaving your face.
“c’mon, baby. wake up—please”
steve didn’t care that he was crying now, but he wasn’t gonna give up on you. while the others were searching through the glove compartment of steve’s b&w & eddie’s stash of cassette tapes in case, steve just started to sing the song in hopes you’d hear him.
“sometimes i walk away, when all i really wanna do is love & hold you right…”
his voice was cracking with nerves, failing to stay completely steady as his chest hurt & his hands were trembling against your skin.
“there is just one thing i can say. nobody loves you this way,” he held back a sob, his heart clenching at how your eyes continued to roll back. “it’s all right. can’t you see, the downtown lights…”
steve learned your favourite song early on when you started dating, around mid october after starcourt fell, where you invited steve over for a sleep over since your mom went out of town for a weekend.
he knew you hated sleeping in your house alone after the events of the summer, so he didn’t mind keeping you company. you both had sprawled out on your living room couch, coffee table filled with pizza, pop, & your favourite treat (which steve picked up on his way over as a surprise). the movie on the tv had become background noise by the time you both had finished eating, bodies turned to one another underneath the blanket you two shared.
“so, when am i gonna get a room tour, hmm?” steve asked as he brushed some hair away from your forehead, fingers tucking some starnes behind your left ear as you looked at him as if he had hung the moon.
“i don’t know—i’ll show you under one condition harrington”
“i’m all ears” he said eagerly, scooting closer to you on the couch.
nervously, you raised your left index finger to your lips & tapped them, eyes flickering between steve’s brown ones & his pink lips. he watched you closely, getting an idea of what you wanted (which made his stomach roll with butterflies).
“ahhhh” he dragged with realization, “want me to kiss you? is that it?” he teased, making you feel smaller than you really were under his gaze.
but before you could turn away or back out, steve was cradling your cheek & bringing you closer to him. his breath fanned your skin, noses lightly brushing against the other.
“i really wanna kiss you too” he mumbled with a smile before leaning further to close the gap.
you hummed in delight when your lips pressed to his, fingers fisting the material of his sweatshirt because it felt so good. steve could hear his heartbeat loud in his ears as he continued to kiss you, his thumb brushing softly against your cheek to make you melt under his touch. the longer his lips meshed with yours, the more your body had moved to practically sit on top of his, chests just touching as your arms trailed up to wrap around his shoulders.
“steve” you breathed, pulling away with a pant but still staying close.
“was that too much?” he asked concerned, chest rising up & down as he looked at you with care.
it was you who kissed him next, one that lasted a few seconds before resting your forehead against his. “it was perfect, really perfect” you exhaled with a smile, arms tightening around him when you felt his left hand resting on your lower back, rubbing up & down soothingly.
you both hasn’t realized that the movie was over & the channel had switched over to music videos. playing softly in the background was a song you had a deep spot in your heart for. turning towards the tv with a tiny gasp, you smiled harder when you saw that it was the blue nile.
“that’s my favourite song!” you whispered excitedly, turning back to steve when he tapped your cheek.
“what song is it?” he asked, not having too much knowledge about them.
“the downtown lights—it’s my favourite song” you replied sheepishly.
“there is just one thing i can say. nobody loves you this way,” you hummed along to the lyrics with a small smile.
steve watched you, admiring how you face looked with the tv glow casting on your features. he thought you were just the best thing ever.
turning up the volume with the remote in his hand, steve listened intently to the lyrics, right foot tapping against the carpeted floor to the beat. “it’s really pretty—just like you” he said, smiling brightly when you chuckled at him.
“that’s so cliche, but thank you”
“cliche but true. & you’re welcome”
after he let the memory replay in his mind, the cassette tap for the band’s album “hats” landed by steve’s feet with a walkman & a headset.
“finally!” steve yelled, brushing away a stray tear on his cheek to grab the two items.
first he put the headphones over your ears. then he attached the tape to the player & forwarded the tape to the song’s track number. turning the volume up, steve’s hands resume their spot on your face to hold you, to coax out of whatever horrific trance you were in.
“baby, can you hear me? it’s steve, your steve. you gotta wake up, okay? you gotta come back to me” he begged, his hope growing thin as the seconds went on.
“everyone’s here—dustin, lucas, max, robin, nancy, eddie—we’re here. we want you back. we need you. i promise i won’t do anymore stupid impressions or be an idiot—i’ll be whatever you want me to be” steve continued to ramble, praying that you were listening, that you were coming home to him.
“i-i love you. i really love you. i-i just want you to be okay, please” he cried to you, not caring if any of his friends heard his love confession in the moment because you were still limp in his arms.
he could vaguely hear the yells of his friends trying to talk to you too, trying to lead you back to them. but all steve could focus on were your eyes still rolling into the back of their sockets.
it wasn’t until the song was about to restart on a loop where steve felt your arms twitching, your chest raising up & down rapidly. before he could even blink your eyes returned back to normal, lips letting out panicked breaths as you scanned your surroundings, hands about to push steve’s away until you saw him.
“s-steve?” you asked wearily, voice feeling small & fragile after the return to hell you had just experienced. “w-what… i-i don’t…” you were at a loss for words, confused & scared.
“it’s me, honey—i’m right here. it’s okay now,” before he could finish, you were hiding in his chest, hands gripping the jean jacket he wore so tightly in fear that this was another trick. that maybe you weren’t safe & vecna still had you.
you sobbed hard, breaths becoming strained with each cry that tore through you. every time you closed your eyes, you were back there again—back in that god forsaken car with bloody vision & your father dead. back where vecna told you your worst fears.
“i’m not letting you go okay? you’re safe. i’m here now. god, i was so worried—ohmygod” steve rambled assurances, cradling your head close like he was in disbelief too, making sure that you were really back in his arms.
surprisingly, the headset was still secured to your head, downtown lights continuing to play from the foamy speakers into your ears. the song calmed you down a bit, made you feel grounded. but it was steve’s touches, the smell of his cologne, & his soft whispers that called you home—back to reality.
“is this real?” your broken voice asked, needing to make sure it was really him.
so steve pulled your head back to hold your face in his hands. he smoothed the sweat, the baby hairs, the tears, & splotches of dirt off your skin, giving you the kindest look you’ve ever been given. “this is real, honey. i’m real, & i’m not gonna hurt you, okay? i gotcha, yeah? won’t let anything hurt you again, i promise” he swore with honour, his own lip trembling when your eyes continued to well up with tears.
“i love you, i love you, i love you. that’s real” he pressed his forehead to yours, exhaling a shaky breath when one of your hands pressed against his chest to feel his heartbeat.
that was the most intimate thing he’s ever felt.
“i love you too, i really do” you mumbled back to him, pulling him in for another bone crushing hug to say all the words you wanted to in the moment. steve got the message loud & clear.

I hope you're ready to lose, Harrington.
Summary: A competitive game of beer pong with Steve leads you to become a bit drunk, but the best kind; giggly, playful, and flirty. And Steve, of course, knows exactly how to take care of you when this happens. CW: Alcohol 1.5k Words fem!reader - ("pretty girl" is used) Henderson!reader - doesn't impact the story Sweet, sweet fluff & comfort Posted on: 5-27-24
It’s Friday night and, per usual, you and Steve are at a party. Nancy and Johnathan came with you guys too, and you had all gotten ready at your house (despite Dustin’s complaints). Steve is in the living room with a few of his old friends and the rest of you are in the kitchen getting drink refills. You and Nancy are having a conversation with one of your friends from class and Johnathan is opening a new bag of chips for you guys (because everybody knows you should never take chips from the open chip bowl). You’re sipping your drinks and laughing with the conversation as the music is blasting in the background.
A minute or two into the conversation, you feel a pair of arms wrap around you and someone sweetly kiss your neck. A smile immediately appears on your face and you twist around to see Steve grinning down at you. His hands rub up and down your waist and he leans in for a kiss as he pulls you closer into him.
“Hey pretty girl,” he whispers before his lips touch yours, and you giggle into the soft kiss. It’s short but sweet; exactly what you needed right now. Your drink-free hand comes up to his hair and your fingers play with a few strands on the back of his neck.
“How’re you feelin?” Steve asks, as his hands travel up and down your arms. He knows you can get kinda anxious at parties, but you sweetly smile up at him. “Good. A bit hungry though.”
You can see a frown start to appear on Steve’s face, but Johnathan pipes in and says “I just opened a new bag of chips, here you go.”
You turn around and he hands you the bag. You thank him with a smile and grab a few out and munch on them. Your back is against Steve’s chest now and he wraps his arms around your shoulders, resting his chin on your head. You rejoin the conversion with Nancy and your friend, and a moment later you hear someone yelling that a new cup pong game is starting in the backyard.
Steve spins you around and grins down at you once again, wiggling his eyebrows as you return the smile.
“Wanna go play?” he asks with a twinkle in his eye.
Last time you played each other Steve beat you terribly and you ended up getting pretty drunk. But not the bad kind; nothing but happy, flirty, and giggly.
You mirror his eyebrow raise and set your drink on the counter.
“Oh you’re on. And be prepared to lose this time.”
Steve laughs and grabs your hand as you walk out back.
“Oh yeah? I seem to remember a certain someone getting their ass whooped last time, but sure, we’ll see about that.”
You roll your eyes with a smile, shaking your head as he winks at you. The two of you wait for the round already going on to finish and take your places.
“I hope you’re ready to lose, Harrington.”
Steve does a little shimmy to get himself ‘in the zone’ and laughs slyly.
“Ohhoo, prepare yourself, honey. You’re about to get your ass. whooped. again.” The crowd that has gathered “ooo’s” and you laugh.
After your first couple turns, it’s looking up for you and you’re winning by a good amount, having only taken 3 drinks in the first few minutes. You only need to make a few more balls in and you’ll win.
When you only have 2 more cups left, Steve starts to make a comeback. You play-banter throughout the whole thing and it eventually comes down to one-on-one; next ball wins.
You imitate Steve’s shimmy from the beginning and crouch down to aim your ball. A small crowd has formed now, and you and Steve each have a half cheering for or booing you.
“Oohh!” you laugh and point at Steve, “Good luck now, Harrington. Good. Luck.”
He grins at you but shakes his head, “Don’t get too excited, honey. I could still make it. Redemption round.”
You nod your head and shrug your shoulders, “I mean, good luck, but don’t come crying to me when you looooseeee.”
The two of you share a grin, both knowing the banter is full of nothing but love.
Half the crowd chants “Steve, Steve, Steve!” and the other half, mostly made up of your friends, boos and tries to distract him. He does another little dance, crouches down, and puts a focus face on. He shoots his ball, aaaannndddd…
It goes in.
A few of his buddies surround him and clap him on the shoulder. He cheers and walks over to where you’re standing and shaking your head with a disappointed look on your face, but smiling as you take the last shot.
"I guess we tied, huh,” he pulls your waist into his as the crowd starts to disperse.
“That just means we gotta try again next week,” you say, and lean up to give him a kiss. It only lasts for a few seconds, and he’s smiling when he pulls away.
“You’re so cute when you get competitive, you know that?”
You smile, blushing a bit, and playfully swat his arm. “Oh, stop it.”
You walk back inside, holding hands of course, and rejoin Nancy and Johnathan in the kitchen. They’re laughing with your friends and you’re quickly and easily able to rejoin the conversation. You have a few more drinks, probably a bit too many, and soon everyone starts to leave the party. It’s gotten pretty late, and you and Steve are eventually the last two left of your friends in the kitchen. You tilt your head back to down the rest of your drink, and Steve starts to notice how much you’ve drank throughout night.
“You ready to go? It’s getting pretty late,” Steve gently tucks a stray strand of hair behind your ear. You give him a head shake and move to pour another drink.
“Noo let’s stay for a bit longer!” You start to drink your newly filled cup but Steve gently takes it from your hand.
“I think you’ve had enough, hun. Don’t want you feeling like last time.”
You whine in protest and try to reach back for it, but almost tip over in the process.
“Whoaa, hey,” Steve sets your cup on the counter and steadies you by holding onto your arms. “I think it’s time to go home, yeah?” By home, he means his house. You make a sound that's a mix between a whine and a hum, and slouch into him.
“Come on,” he puts an arm around your waist and leads you out to his car. He struggles a bit to open the door, but eventually gets it and helps you into the passenger seat. You slump into the leather and don’t let go of him.
“Stevie,” you mumble and grab onto his shirt as he’s leaning over you to buckle the seatbelt.
“‘s the matter, sweetheart.”
“Don’t feel good,”
He leans back a bit and looks at you concerningly, “Are you gonna be sick?” He quickly starts to unbuckle your seatbelt in case you need to get out of the car, but you shake your head and lean into his chest.
“No. Jus’ dizzy. ‘m tired.”
He gives you a sympathetic smile. “I know, honey. We’ll be home soon, just close your eyes, okay? That’ll help with your head.”
You sluggishly nod and lean back into the seat. He buckles you in once more and kisses your forehead before shutting the door and jogging around the front of the car to the driver's side. He gets in and turns the car on, cranks the heat up a bit, and leans over to brush some hair out of your face and kiss your cheek. He backs up and keeps a hand gently rubbing your leg the whole ride home.
When the car pulls into his driveway, he looks over to see you half asleep, but not fully. He smiles to himself and turns the car off, hopping out to help you. He unbuckles you and you stir awake a bit and hum.
“‘s just me, baby. I’m gonna carry you inside and get us to bed, okay?”
You sleepily nod and he puts his arms around you. Your head rests on his chest and you hold onto his shirt and allow your eyes to fall closed. You’re almost asleep by the time you get to his room, and he gently lays you on his bed. You grab his arm before he can walk away to get ready for bed.
“Wait, can you help me change? 'm uncomfy.”
“Um, yeah, you sure?” Steve gets kinda flustered and stutters. You giggle sleepily and make grabby hands towards him.
“Yes Stevie. ‘s not like you haven’t seen me naked before ya know.”
He softly laughs and comes over to help you sit up.
“I know. Just wanna make sure you’re comfortable.”
You nod and gaze up at him, your fingers lightly brushing over his cheek and lips.
“I trust you, Stevie.”
He sweetly smiles down at you. “You’re so cute.”
You giggle and blush as he kisses your forehead.
He gently helps you get your pajamas on and take off your makeup. He lays you back in bed, and by then you’re half asleep again. He climbs into bed next to you and you subconsciously snuggle into his side, finally feeling comfortable enough to drift off.

Lives Changed
part one
4.5k words
summary: eddie receives a deal of a lifetime, while reader is put through a life altering position. Their lives are changing, just not together.
warnings: pregnancy, break ups, just all angst
Eddie Munson had been everything to you, your boyfriend of two years, the love of your life and the man you had wanted to spend the rest of your life with. You had your future with him planned out from the first date, that was until it had all come falling down.
You had just graduated High School, Eddie was about to repeat his second senior year. It was a Sunday morning in the middle of August. A simple Sunday morning, before both your lives would change forever.
You had been feeling nauseous and tired for a few weeks, and had decided to run to the pharmacy for something you never thought you would have to buy at eighteen . A pregnancy test. It wasn’t far from the realm of possibility for you to be pregnant, You and Eddie were passionate to say the least. So there you sat on the floor of your bathroom and waited the ten minutes for the pregnancy test to give you your results.
While waiting you thought for the first time about the possibility of a baby. To be a mother, you never hated the idea especially if it was with Eddie, but now? at eighteen ? You had just gotten accepted to University, could you really let that go? It was a crazy thought. If you were being honest you weren’t that worried about it, fully denying the possibility. You were prone to overthinking, it was something that had caused problems for you and Eddie in the beginning of your relationship before you learned to trust each other, to communicate. So you thought it was just that. You, thinking too much.
Though the two blue lines on the pregnancy test before you proved your worries to be true. You were pregnant.
To be sure you decided to take five more, all with the same results. There was no denying it now, you were a hundred percent pregnant. Tears streamed down your face as you stared at the five positive tests. Terrified was an understatement on how you were feeling.
You weren’t ready to be a mom. Oh my god! your mom was going to kill you, she herself had gotten pregnant at a young age. Having to raise you all by herself, she had always warned you to be careful, it was something she always said every time you left to spend time with Eddie. She was going to be so disappointed in you.
Your body began to shake with how hard you were crying, but your thoughts then turned to Eddie. Your understanding and loving boyfriend, as you thought about it you knew that with Eddie by your side, you could get through anything. Or that’s what you thought.
While you were on your bathroom floor, with tears flowing down your face, surrounded by pregnancy tests. Thinking about how different your life would be from this moment on. Eddie was at his trailer surrounded by his bandmates thinking the same thing but instead of fear or uncertainty, he was feeling the exact opposite.
For the first time he felt true certainty for himself, he felt joy and hope for the future. For a second did he think of you through the smiles and joy but when he did he only felt panic. So he pushed it aside, it was a happy moment. He needed a happy moment for once because for Eddie Munson, his Sunday morning didn’t consist of pharmacy visits, pregnancy tests or tears. It was him and his bandmates and a phone call.
Never in his life did he think he would actually receive the life changing phone call, but when he picked up the receiver, saying his usual “The Munson Residence”
The news on the other line was one that Eddie had dreamed of hearing his whole life. He had almost dropped the phone onto the floor as the person on the other end, identified themselves as a LA Music Producer. They had actually listened to the Corroded Coffin tape he had sent them, and they loved it. Corroded Coffin had been offered a record deal, the deal of a lifetime.
Both of your lives were changing, just not together.
After you collected yourself, You knew you had to tell Eddie. For a flash of a moment you felt absolute fear, but you knew Eddie loved you. There was no doubt about it, he was your biggest fan. Always there to shower you with praise and compliments, it was also a known fact that the boy hated to be away from you. The boy practically had to be peeled away from you every time you had to go to class or go home.
So you picked up the phone, you weren’t going to deliver the news over the phone but you knew Sunday mornings were designated band practice days for Eddie and Corroded Coffin. So you called.
If you were being honest with yourself you just wanted to talk to him before placing such a burden on him. The phone rang longer than you were used to which only worsened the anxiety you were currently feeling. When the call finally connected you breathed a sigh of relief at the sound of the voice you loved so much.
“Hello, Lead Singer of Corroded Coffin speaking” Eddie Answered with pure joy lacing his tone. You could hear Gareth's laugh on the other side of the phone.
“Well hello Lead singer of Corroded Coffin” you replied, giggling softly at his antics. If you only knew.
“Oh, Hi Sweetheart. What’s up” He said with less enthusiasm, if you weren’t so wrapped up in your own thoughts you probably would’ve caught the change in tone.
“Nothing, just wanted to see if you and the band were still practicing. Wanted to talk to you, hear your voice” Your voice shook slightly, trying to hold back the tears that we’re returning once more.
Just like you, Eddie was too wrapped up in his thoughts to notice the shake in your voice. Something he usually would’ve noticed instantly.
He was silent for a moment, a long moment that only filled your gut with a feeling of dread. Could he possibly know? Did he see you at the pharmacy? He couldn’t have. You would’ve noticed him.
After a few seconds of silence and shuffling on the other end, Eddie finally replied “Um.. Uh yeah we’re still practicing, Jeff is still having trouble learning the riff to this song we’re working on... Ar-Are you okay?”
“Yeah Yeah, I’m fine but can we hang tomorrow?” You asked, he had sounded so happy when he answered the phone. It had been a rare sound recently as he had been feeling low since flunking his senior year. Even when he congratulated you after you had walked in your cap and gown, you knew he felt disappointed in himself. You couldn’t drop this on him when he was finally sounding like his usual care free self. You could tell him tomorrow.
“Of Course, Sweetheart. I actually gotta get back to the boys but I’ll see you tomorrow” He rushed out. You should’ve noticed the unsteadiness in his voice. If you had noticed it, you would’ve been prepared for what was to come.
“Yeah, I’ll see you. I love you” you said and then he hung up.
Eddie never said goodbye without saying ‘I love you’ back. If anything he was always the first one, berating you for not saying it back quick enough. The dreadful feeling in your stomach only grew after that.
When Eddie hung up the phone, for the first time that day he felt the gravity of the deal he had accepted. He was undeniably happy, this was his dream come true. He would no longer be the trailer park trash that everyone thought him to be, the freak of Hawkins or the idiot who had to repeat his senior year because he was too busy drug dealing to actually participate in class.
But what did that mean for the two of you?
“What was that? Why didn’t you tell y/n? She should be on her way here to celebrate with us.” Gareth said his hands held out, confused by Eddie’s actions. Never has Eddie been able to keep something hidden from you. It was actually something that had bugged Gareth in the beginning as he knew that if he told Eddie something, you would be told the same information only hours later.
“Yeah! And I completely nailed that riff by the way” Jeff inserted, slightly offended by Eddie’s choice of excuses.
Eddie ignored them both, slowly and silently making his way to the couch, all excitement he had previously felt, gone from his body. The only thing on his mind was you. You would be happy for him, there’s no denying that. You loved him and always encouraged him to seek out his dreams. Hell, you were the one who convinced him to send the tape out anyways, helping him pick the right songs and mail it. This was as much your accomplishment as it was his.
Yet why did he feel like something was ending, like he was giving up one dream for another.
“What’s wrong dude?” Doug asked, moving to sit next to Eddie, sharing concerned glances with Jeff and Gareth at their friends' sudden change of mood.
“He lied to y/n for one thing, he never does that. '' Gareth replied, his arms crossed. While you were friends with all of Eddie’s bandmates it was Gareth who had introduced you to Eddie in the first place after meeting in Biology. You were true friends outside of your relationship with Eddie.
Eddie stayed silent, barely registering Gareth’s words.
“ I forgot about her. We just accepted the deal and I forgot about her” Eddie muttered silently more to himself than anything but the boys heard him perfectly, Suddenly understanding.
The boys knew how much you meant to Eddie, after having to endure two years of you two clinging to each other and sucking face. Though they knew you made Eddie happy and that’s all they wanted for him.
Jeff came to sit on the other side of Eddie on the couch, hand on his shoulder in reassurance. “ Don’t worry about it, man. Y/n will understand she knows this is your dream. I mean didn’t she help out with the tape”
“We’re going to have to move. That’s what the producer said. I was too caught up in the excitement, I- Oh god. Are we going to have to—break up?” Eddie's voice shook and it was the first time the boys had ever seen Eddie scared. He was their confident leader , the guy who stood up to bullies and made fun of them back. Even when he felt like shit for not graduating, he was never scared.
“Don’t think about that dude. It’s y/n, I mean she could come with us?” Doug suggested but even he couldn’t be confident about his words. Eddie always puts your wants and needs first.
You had just got into Indiana University, you had specifically chosen one close to home so you could stay close to Eddie and your mom.
“I-I can’t do that to her. Force her to live my dreams” Tears began to brim Eddie’s eyes as he thought about it. “She’ll hate me for it” The last part he said quieter but in the silence of his living room, the boys heard him clearly fully understanding where his mind was, knowing the history of Eddie’s parents.
His dad wanted kids, his mom didn’t but she had Eddie anyways to make his dad happy. She used to remind Eddie of that every day about how he ruined her life. That's when the fighting started, Eddie’s mom resenting him and Eddie’s dad for ruining everything. Then when Old Al Munson finally went to jail, Eddie’s mom did what she always wanted. She left.
He couldn’t let that happen to him and y/n, he loved her too much to force her to give up her dreams, to uproot her life for him. What if she began to hate him like his mom? But then could he give up his dream for her? The initial answer was yes but his evil mind played out the same ending, with him hating her for making him give it up. He could never hate her, but he’s seen couples break up for less.
“Y/N could never hate you, Eds. You know that, We all know that. That girl adores you, she loves you.” Gareth said, trying to help.
“Exactly, fucking exactly. She loves me, she would give up University, she would give it all up for me. Then in a few years she will realize how much she gave up. She’ll resent me for ruining her life. Then she will hate me.” Eddie stood up and began pacing, his words tumbling out.
This was how Eddie was, when he came to a conclusion no matter how twisted it was, he would stick to it. He was stubborn like that, the only person who could ever calm him down, change his mind, was you.
“Eddie buddy, just talk to y/n. I can’t believe I'm saying this but you two are meant for each other. I knew it from the moment I met her. Just talk to her and you’ll work things out” Jeff stood up, resting a hand on Eddie’s shoulder once more to steady him.
Eddie only nodded but kept his gaze low, far away. The boys looked at each other, Gareth nodding at Jeff. Though while they silently agreed it was good advice, they just hoped Eddie actually heard them and would listen to them.
Eddie had heard their words and for a while it calmed him down, you were Eddie and Y/n. There was nothing you couldn’t handle but that night as he tossed and turned all he could think about is what you would say when you found out. The boys might have been right in just talking it out with you, but they didn’t know you like he did. He knew you, he knew you would jump at the opportunity to go with him, you would give up everything and leave it all behind for him.
You were selfless like that and a selfish part of Eddie wanted to let you but then he remembered the look on your face when you walked to him in your cap and gown, you were absolutely beautiful but the look of happiness and pride in your eyes. You were proud of yourself and that look only increased by ten when you received your acceptance letter. You had raved about how you would come down every weekend to visit him and help your mom out. Another thing he couldn’t do, Los Angeles was thousands of miles away from Indiana. If anything happened to your mom and you weren’t there, you would hate him forever.
It was three in the morning and every way Eddie thought about it, it ended with either you giving up your dreams or him giving up his. He knew he would give it up for you and you for him, but he also knew that kind of sacrifice could only end in heartache. He rather lose you to your dreams and happiness then even let the possibility of you hating him one day happen.
Eddie Munson knew what he had to do, and it was just about to kill him.
You had spent the majority of the rest of the day in a trance. Your eyes redrimmed and face covered in dried tears. After your call with Eddie you hadn’t cried any longer, in a weird state of calm even with the dread filling your stomach.
There was nothing you could do at this point, at least not until you talked to Eddie. You laid in bed for most of the day, watching old movies and entertaining the different futures you could have with Eddie.
Could you be a mother? It would be terribly difficult, first with the way your mom would react to the news. You had had money saved for when you moved to school, hoping to start a fund for you and Eddie to move in together. Would you even be able to go to University anymore? Lots of people worked and went to school pregnant but could you? So far away from home?
You weren’t sure what you wanted.
Your thoughts turned to Eddie, how would he feel? He just flunked his senior year, what would being a teen dad do to him? Even when Eddie carried his carefree facade, you knew the things people said about him being “a freak” or “trash like his father” got to him. You knew because he told you, late night whispers as he ran his fingers up and down your side, and your fingers combing through his messy hair. Bodies slick with sweat after your usual night of dirty sex or ‘lovemaking’ as Eddie liked to call it.
The insults thrown at him would get worse if you had a baby, you knew that. A small conservative town like Hawkins wasn’t one that was particularly open to anything or anyone different. Eddie would support you but would he want this? Eddie wanted to be a rockstar, it’s why he spent every sunday morning and wednesday afternoon’s practicing so hard with his band. You even helped him send a bunch of tapes to music producers in Los Angeles. Eddie would support you but he didn’t want this, at least not now.
The true question was, if you wanted this?
You had spent all day contemplating every possible outcome for your ‘little problem’ and had fallen asleep early. So when you woke up, you didn’t want to think anymore about possibilities. You just wanted him, your sweet loving Eddie. So still in your sweats, you grabbed your bag. Holding up one of the five pregnancy tests, you looked at it for half a second before shoving it in your bag. Then you made your way to Eddie’s trailer.
As you walked up, a wave of nausea hit you but it was different than before. Probably a sign of the pain and stress that awaited you on the other side of the door. You knocked and waited for Eddie to open the door for you. When he did, you noted his messy hair, his eyes had dark circles around them, you wondered if he had gotten enough to sleep. You couldn’t help but smile at the sight of him, your worries washing away for a few seconds as you stared at him, God did you love this boy.
Though while you smiled, Eddie didn’t. Which was odd, he would’ve scooped you up into his arms at this point.
“Sweetheart? You're here early. Is everything okay?” He asked, opening the door wider to let you in.
You made your way inside, noting the beer cans that remained on the coffee table.
“I- I don’t know, I just really needed to talk to you” You said looking at him, trying your best to keep your composure. Twiddling with your fingers, gaze set on the boy.
Eddie’s brows furrowed and for a second he looked confused before he sighed. Taking your hand and leading you to sit on the couch.
“I’m guessing you talked to Gareth”
This confused you ultimately, now you really looked at Eddie. You had noticed the dark circles around his eyes which was normal after a night with the boys but now you noticed that he looked much like you did yesterday, eyes bloodshot and swollen, a wave of panic flooded you.
“No? Why? What happened?” You questioned not hiding the panic in your voice, all the things were coming together in your head now. The redness in his eyes, his lack of “I love you” when you said it yesterday and even now while you sat on the couch, hand in hand, he was an entire foot away from you. Something was wrong, and it had nothing to do with you or the fetus in your womb.
He was silent for awhile, looking everywhere else but you. Which only worried you more, Eddie never had trouble expressing himself, especially to you.
“ Remember when we sent those tapes out a few weeks ago” You nodded quickly unprepared for the turn this conversation was going to go.
“Well um, they called, Sweetheart. They want me, they want to sign Corroded Coffin” For a second you forgot about all your life and problems, and smiled brightly, you surged forward hugging him.
“Eddie, that's amazing! You're going to be a rockstar. I knew they would love you” You pulled back but Eddie wasn’t smiling or giggling with you. His face was passive, he pulled back, putting you at arm’s length. Your eyebrows furrowed at the loss of contact.
“Baby? What’s wrong?” You tried to reach for him, to cup his face but he stopped you, grabbing your hand and putting it aside but not letting go.
“ The band and I were moving to LA” These words were like cold water being dropped down your spine, you pulled your hand away like if it burned. You were happy for Eddie but this news was very bad timing. Incredibly bad timing.
You mulled over his words, ‘The band and I’, and he had yet to say anything after, the silence telling you everything you needed to know. He wasn't asking you to go, he had decided, you weren’t going.
This was not how you expected this morning to go.
“What about me? Us? ” You said softly, you had already cried all your tears yesterday, if anything the feeling of dread and panic was now overshadowed by a bigger feeling, anger.
Eddie sighed running his hands through his hair, “You have your whole life ahead of you darling, and this is an opportunity of a lifetime and I - I don’t think” He stumbled over his words, his eyes focused on the wall in front of him.
He couldn’t look at you, if he looked at you he would break.
“Just say it Eddie” Your voice was harsher now, you had spent all of yesterday crying thinking your life was over. Your only consolation was that you would have Eddie but you were wrong. He was leaving you.
He turned to you then, looking you in the eye, his own brimming with tears. “I think we should break up.”
Just like that the world had dropped from under you. An ache settled in your throat and chest. You fought the tears brimming but that didn’t stop the strain in your voice when you spoke . “You think?”
You didn’t look at him, only heard him as he spoke. “Sweetheart, It’s not right for me to ask you to come with me”
You scoffed bitterly “You didn’t even ask. I thought you loved me, you promised— We We h-had plans”
His hands came to cradle to your face as you continued to stumble over your words “Shh Shh, Sweetheart breathe”
You pulled back and stood up, laughing bitterly, he only looked at you with a concerned gaze, tears marking his cheeks.
“When-When did you find this out? huh? Yesterday?” Realization hit you and you couldn’t help the glare that you sent to Eddie.
“That’s why you were weird, Why didn't you tell me you loved me? What? you were planning on how to break up with me, all day? What? So you could get a new hot LA model girlfriend?” You rambled angrily
He stood up trying to touch you but you stepped back, trying to be as far away from him as possible. “No No Sweetheart, I’m doing this for you because I love you”
“ YOUR LYING” you yelled, you and Eddie never yelled to each other but you also never lied. “I know you Eddie Munson, you aren’t doing this for me. You are doing this for you. What? Were our plans not enough for you! The family we dreamed of !” Your hands moved to settle over your stomach but Eddie was too focused on you to notice. He was silent, and his silence only made you more angry.
“SAY SOMETHING” you yelled
“NO!” he yelled back harshly, his eyes hardened “You want the truth? That little white picket fence dream family you wanted. It was never going to be enough for me? I never wanted it, to be stuck here as the town freak, stuck here with you” He stopped abruptly knowing the cruelty of what he was saying.
It was like all your worst fears and doubts about your relationship with Eddie came true, you could feel your heart shattering. Everything you had ever dreamed of with him, the silent promises whispered at night, all the hopes, they were all lies.
“Sweetheart I—”
“It’s fine, Eddie. It’s just the truth right? You never wanted a future with me, you were just settling until a better opportunity came around, and now it’s here” Your voice was cold and calm. Gone was any fight you had, what was the point, Eddie didn’t want you, or a future with you. So why fight a one sided battle.
“Right?” You asked as a final attempt, You looked him in the eyes, hoping that he would say it wasn’t true, hoping to see a little sliver of regret in those brown eyes that you loved. That he would say that he did want a life with you, even if it got messy, but there was none.
His eyes set on you, “Right. This— It’s what I want Y/n” He said dejectedly. No regret, just guilt, he was choosing a life without you rather than one with you.
Eddie Munson was a stubborn man, when he wanted something he was set on it. You could always talk him out of things because well he loved you more, wanted you more. Though it looks like he had found something better to want.
You only nodded, moving to grab your bag. The pregnancy test sitting inside, long forgotten. He only stood there, frozen, staring at you as you moved to leave. As you opened the door you looked at him once last time.
“You were never a freak to me” you said before slamming the trailer door.
You walked down the steps to your car, stopping as you reached the door handle, you looked back to the trailer, thinking of the past two years you had spent with the boy you thought loved you. You waited, tears silently falling from your eyes, using the last thread of hope and trust you had in Eddie Munson. Hoping he would run out and stop you. He didn’t.
Eddie watched from the window of the trailer watching as you looked up at the trailer, unknowingly looking at him through the window. He didn’t move, he just watched you stare, then get in your car and drive away.
It was the last time Eddie Munson would see you for six years, eyes red, tears streaming, and heartbroken.
This is my first series, so let me know your guys thoughts in the comments.

Chapter 3: same old same old
WC:2.2k
The thing is life moves on, no matter the feelings you have. A lot has happened since 7th grade. You went through your first heartbreak but life went on. There are times now and then where you miss what used to be but there was a more overpowering feeling of resentment and anger . I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
I'm now a senior. Well technically I'll be one after this summer is over. I started High School. That's when King Steve already got crowned going into his sophomore year and already I didn't recognize the boy I Used to Know. I kept my head down. I never wanted to be singled out by him or any of his friends. I had a couple good friends. Robin was my best friend though she knew everything I went through with him. Our friendship grew stronger from 7th grade and now I'm here.
Working a summer minimum wage job at Scoops Ahoy in the new Star Court Mall my brother is gone at camp and I thought there's no harm. Last year I had a few run-ins with he who shall not be named. Some crazy stuff happened that my brother didn't tell me but I'm glad I got to be there for him even though now I'll have nightmares about a demon creature that ate our cat. Do I know why the one person that was available to give him a ride for him had to be Steve Harrington no. I do know how I felt the minute I saw him though my brother was younger when everything happened he's still new I never wanted to be around him that's why I threw that whole night I did not speak one word or even look in his Direction and after it was over and he tried to talk to me I did not give in I would not let him hurt me like that again.
When Robin brought up the idea for us both to get a job so we can spend our summer together and earn money I thought no harm no foul. I think she forgot to mention that Steve the hair Harrington was also starting a new job there this summer. There were certain scenarios I just couldn't avoid. And I had to look at him and talk to him and breathe the same air as him and every inch of my being wanted to scream in his face
I had just gotten back from the store with my mom picking up some new cleats. See if something happens to you that hurts a lot you tend to pick up certain things to distract you, mine was soccer and I loved it. I loved my teammates. I love the adrenaline. My brother got home yesterday from camp. I'm getting dressed in my stupid uniform to go work a shift with my best friend and my worst enemy.
I walked out into the living room where my brother was Messing with his walkie-talkie
Hey dust mite if you want to catch a ride with me to the mall I'm leaving right now. I said. He jumped in the passenger seat of my car as we drove to the mall. I missed you kid, how was camp meet any hot chicks. He looked over at me with that little goofy smile of his. No way did my little brother get a girlfriend?. I am shocked as I'm turning down the radio. Her name is Suzie. She's so smart and she's even hotter than Phoebe Cates. I shake my head laughing. I cannot believe my baby brother has a girlfriend. Where does the time go?
So what's new with you sis have you..... um talked to Steve a lot?
I look over at him and disbelieve he knows I hate when he talks about him. What do you think? I say I don't feel like I'm being irrational. My brother just got home and already he's asking about stupid Steve, the one person who he Couldn't stop talking about all year long. Okay...okay I mean It's been almost 4 years I understand he was an asshole but he's changed really you know he talks about yo-. I cut him off before he could continue. Dustin please stop. I honestly don't care what he has to say and I can deal with how I want to deal with what happened for how long I want to deal with it. Can we have one conversation where you don't bring him up okay I missed you and you're already talking about him i just-.. i..t ...it doesn't matter we're already here.
(Flash Back) snowball dance end of 84'
I'm volunteering for the Snowball Dance as a chaperone. I've gotten a lot closer with Nancy and Jonathan. Our Brothers had been friends for a long time so you know at some point we were going to have to become friends. Nancy asked me if I was available to volunteer and I just thought after everything that had gone on what's the harm.I like Nancy she was a good person protected my brother even though it did hurt when her and Steve got together everybody knew about them the golden couple I thought after all these years I would have been okay but seeing them it hurt. Don't get me wrong I know Steve was in his slut phase. There was gossip left and right about him. It just still kind of hurts. I think a part of me would always love him…
I told Dustin I could take him to the dance. He told me he needed extra time to get ready and he had a ride. I didn't ask who it was but I assumed. I told him I would be waiting out front even though El saved the world again I still got a little scared something could happen to my brother.
(Dustin and Steve in the car
All right all right kid stop worrying your hair looks good I'm sure Max will like it. Dustin looked over at Steve and sighed. Steve looked at the window and then he cleared his throat. So um.. how's yo- your sister. Steve had changed over the last couple months and after Nancy dumped him. The day you guys stopped being friends Steve didn't really know what to do with himself he missed you a lot actually missed your talks missed you whenever his dad would yell at him or when nobody remembered his birthday. He missed your laugh. When you started high school he thought it was best to keep his distance. He had just started becoming popular. Every girl wanted him and every guy wanted to be him. But he noticed you. He always noticed you. He even went and watched your championship soccer game he saw you make the winning goal even though he was hiding behind the bleachers he looked at you and wished he was out there cheering with you. you never tried to talk to him either and you had every right but back then all he wanted to do was keep his front on let nobody in really and have everybody love him. Even if it wasn't real. Now that he's older and he's grown he regrets what he did. He still remembers the day everything happened the way you looked at the sound of your muffled cry. How he saw you run out to your mom's minivan and he walked back into the dance and acted like nothing happened. He missed your friendship. She's okay. I think she hasn't really talked much since what happened but I think she's okay. Steve nodded his head. He had Home Alone after that night, times like this is when he missed you.)
Lo and behold pulls up Steve Harrington's BMW. I do have to say the hatred I felt for him had died down a little bit in the last week. Maybe it was because he helped save my brother and his friends and the world I don't really know. My brother stepped out of the car and so did Steve. I looked at his head and started laughing. What the hell did you do to my brother's hair Harrington?. I walked up to them. Do you like it? Dustin asks me to flashing his new pearls. I could see the real enjoyment in my brother's eyes so I smiled. You know what I think I just might. I went to try and ruffle his hair but he hit my hand away. Not the hair not the hair. He whined. Get on inside. I told him and giggled. He ran up the steps into the school. I looked over to see Steve staring at me with a look in his eyes I couldn't put my finger on. You alright Harrington? I turn around to fully look at him. He turned his head down slightly blushing that he had been caught. Um it's just I haven't heard your laugh in a long time is all. I look down for a minute trying to contemplate what he's saying and why he is saying it is this cruel joke there's no way it could be anything else. Steve started to think about what he just said in the look on your face he was mortified. i'm sorry all i meant- he starts to say. Steve we have barely talked in the past 5 years up until recently with everything that happened I have so much as looked at your direction I don't know what happened to you but I want you to stop trying to do whatever this is if you're guilty or something want to clear your conscience don't do it on my Accord it only makes you feel better. I turn on my heels and start walking back into the gym.
Y/N wait can we just talk for a second.. I can hear Steve running up behind me and as I was going to turn around and tell him to stop the gym door opens. Out walks Ally Parker, Head cheerleader at Hawkins High and part-time evil witch. She spots Steve and brushes past Me Knocking my shoulder. Watch out. She says in her snarky uptight tone she's just another one of those popular people who makes everybody feel little to boost their own confidence but I guess it's right where Steve belongs. I scoff and roll my eyes as she walks in front of me and bats her eyelashes at Steve. Hi Steve. She says Oh hey Ally I'm kind of busy right now. He says gazing up at me and trying to move past her. But she grabs his bicep with her perfectly manicured hand. She looks back at me and rolls her eyes. Why do you even need to talk to her? You should come out with us we're all going to the drive-in. Want to take me in your car? She lets out her evil witch giggle. I genuinely couldn't believe what was happening, same old same old. I scoffed loudly, turning the attention back to me. Yeah Steve, go have fun at the drive-in. Something about this Situation is bringing me back to the 7th grade snowball and that's why I don't know why I feel my cheeks going red and the tears forming behind my eyes. Steve must notice it too because he looks at me with those beautiful deep brown eyes full of pity. He reached out to grab my hand but I yanked it away Y/N please let me explain.
Thanks for making us relive history. I walked back into the gym down that same hallway where My heart was broken all those years ago. I can't believe he was doing it again, what I would do to not still be in love with Steve Harrington....( flash back over)
Dustin would never understand how I felt. He didn't know what happened at that Snowball Dance last year and I don't know why I feel like this. Maybe it's because I felt completely betrayed by somebody I called my best friend and yeah I know I was in seventh grade so why does it matter. I don't know I wish I could stop feeling what I feel. I wish I could just get over it and not feel resentment and anger but it's really hard when you're forced to be around the person that hurt you. And it sucks even more that he is always flirting. I don't want to feel what I feel but I can't help it so my heart hurts a little more each time. Because I see him in his little goofy sailor costume and I can't help but smile. Then I feel like that little girl, that little girl who just wanted Steve Harrington to like her, tell her, her dress was pretty to hold her hand to ask her to dance but I never got that and yeah I need to get over it but I can't..
End of pt 3 I'm not sure where to take this. but i hope you enjoy tho

The King will fall pt2 (King Steve Harrington x Fem! Henderson reader)
Warnings- Bullying, angsttttt, one sided love, mutual pinning, eventual smut (soft love), crying, bad home life(steve), best friends-enemies-friends-lovers <3.
Summary: you remember the day you met him, the day you fell in love with him, and the day you fell out of love with him. Then the day that everything changed what happens when two strayed souls are pulled back together and forced to question what happened that day. The day Steve Harrington broke your heart, and will he be the one to fix it?
Chapter 2: snowball
Pt 1:
WC: 1,536
Memories they are. Wonderful, terrible, horrible thing. Some are good, great even but some are not. Some keep replying in your head over and over again and all you do is wish you could forget.
Age 12 I was in 7th grade and Steve was in 8th. It was winter, 1978. The Hawkins middle school snowball dance was slowly approaching. Steve told you it was a stupid dance when you had told him you wanted to go. 4 weeks ago “Come on Steve, it will be fun,” I said . He looked at me with an annoyed look but slightly smiled. “Okay fine care bear we’ll go” “Yay okay be at my house at 7? My mom can take us”. “Yeah, yeah okay let's get going now”.
You and Steve had been friends since that day in 3rd grade. 5 years and you had so many adventures. So it was weird when this last year Steve has gotten distant. You could feel it you thought maybe his dad had been hard on him again or something. You and him bonded over things even if they weren't great. When your father left he was there for you and made you feel a sense of normality. When his parents left him to go on business trips or forgot his birthday, or yelled at him you and your family were there for him. So now when he kept making up excuses and reasons of why he couldn't talk or come hang out you thought the worse.
He obviously had other friends as did you. You had a really good friend named Robin. You guys were in band together. But Steve started making a lot of new friends who were mean. You had seen them around school; they just weren't good kids. All the girls have crushes on him now and to be honest it kinda hurt. Everyone has grade school crushes but you've seen him the real him and it just feels like everyone is faking.
You were standing at your locker grabbing your stuff when Robin walked up to you. “You're coming tonight right” - “Yeah I’m excited” I say looking at her. “Yeah because you're going with Steve Harrington” she says laughing. I could feel my cheeks start to warm up and my heart beat quicken. “Omg Robin shhh, and stop, you know we're just friends”. She looks at me and rolls her eyes “mhhh yeah okay i’ll see you tonight”. I separated as i waved bye to her
I walked outside to my moms minivan. I see Steve by the sidewalk talking to his friend Tommy as I walk over to them. “Hey Steve, my moms here you ready”. Their conversation halts and he turns around “oh um actually Tommy is gonna take me home today cause we're gonna go play video games”. I look over at Tommy as he waits for Steve, then I look back at Steve. I stare down at my feet “Oh.. okay um see you tonight rig-”. I look up and Steve is already walking away with Tommy as he shouts over his shoulder. “uh yeah”. I stare at them walking away wondering if I did something to make him upset at me. I just don't understand why he's being so short and nonchalant as if he hasn't been basically ignoring me the past month. I try not to let it get to my head as I climb into my mom's minivan. I say hi to my little brother Dustin in the back. "No Steve" my mom questions "no he got a ride from his friend Tommy" I say and we leave it at that.
It was 6:30 my mom let me go buy a new dress. It was blue and sparkly. I felt so pretty in it. I secretly hoped Steve would think I Looked pretty in it. I couldn't help but find myself having a crush on him. All year long I had hoped just maybe he would ask me but even getting to go as his friend was okay. He was my knight in shining armor. He's always there. He was kind and caring and sweet I don't know what happened the last couple of weeks but i wasn't worried he would always be my best friend.
I sat waiting on my couch as 7:00 p.m rolled around. Then 7:15. Then 7:30. I called his house with no answer. I waited 10 more minutes. I started to worry maybe something happened or- "Honey You should get going, where's Steve?" my mom walked into the living room. "I'm sure he just got a ride from somebody else or something we can get going". I arrived at the school and it was decked out with lights and streamers. I saw Robin over at the bleachers sitting. "Hey Robin" "Hey"she says back. We talk for a minute when she sees me looking around the gym. "He's here already, they all got here like a half an hour ago" she says. I looked over at her, slightly embarrassed had I really been that obvious. I say thank you as I look away from her sheepishly. I spot him at the drink table with a couple other boys. I get up and start walking over to him. I feel frustrated. I want to ask why he didn't call and why he didn't show up but I think at least he's here. I think maybe I'll get my chance to have a dance with Steve Harrington. I'm almost to the table when I hear one of the boys Tommy start to say something. "Dude why are you even still friends with that weirdo, you have a crush on her or something?". I stop in my tracks when I hear Steve laugh. "Ew man, as if i'd ever like that nerd I've been trying to get rid of for a while. I met her in grade school. She's just stuck to me. I can't get away” they all start laughing. I feel My eyes start to well with tears then I feel like I can't breathe. It's like the world goes quiet like I'm dreaming like the boy that I've known for 5 years is a stranger. I come back down to earth when I hear Tommy say "Uh-oh". Then he points over Steve's shoulder as he turns around and sees me. He looks shocked as he opens his mouth and closes it again. I turn around on my heals and take off running . It feels like my world is falling. The Steve I've pictured in my head, the one that asks me to dance and holds my hand is no more. He's just like the rest of them cruel. I hear him shout my name as I leave the gym. I I went out the front doors and breathed in the air. It was cold and my head felt fuzzy. I could still feel the hot tears running down my cheeks. I didn't know what to do. I hear the door open and I don't even need to look back to know it's him. my back to him "please go back inside I don't want to see you you made it very loud and clear how you felt I never want to talk to you again" "y/n....please". i chocked back a sob "no Steve I really don't want to hear anything, someone who could say something like that something so awful is no friend of mine and clearly you don't want to be my friend anymore and you could have just said it to my face instead of going behind my back and talking to all your asshole friends about it". i feel my voice breaking as it slightly wavers "I don't know what happened to you Steve, when did you become so fake". I look over my shoulder to see a distraught Steve. I stand up and shove past him as I feel him grab my wrist. I pull it away and out of his grasp and walk back inside. I walked to the payphone to call my mom. "uh Hey Mom will you come pick me up please" - "yeah alright honey is everything okay". I feel my Tears start again. "no mama it just really need you to come get me". "Okay sweetie I'll be right there". I stand in the empty hallway As my back slowly slides down against the locker, put my head in between my knees and I let myself cry. I let myself have a moment to grieve the friendship I just lost. I guess it's true your first heartbreak hurts the worst.
I try not to remember him this way. I really try not to relive this day. Honestly the whole year leading up to it. I like to think about my friend my friend who came over and played the prince and princess with me who like to play ninjas or help me up off the ground when I scraped my knee or who sat and listened while I cried when my parents were splitting up not the kid who crushed my heart, not the kid that completely betrayed me and forgot me in the past.
ahhh idk its 3 am im tired and this is probably horrible anyway not proof read. enjoy and lmk if i should continue this thx.

The King will fall (king Steve x fem! Henderson reader series?)
Chapter 1: Meet Cute
WC:642
Everyone always says you remember the day you meet your first love. The day when your perspective on the world changes, when the colors burst and you can finally see clearly. Third grade, that's when you met Steve Harrington. He was 1-year-older than you. He had the most beautiful eyes you had ever seen, ones that when you looked into them you felt like you could see your future as if you could swim endlessly in them. You remember it like it was yesterday you had just gone out for recess and went to go on your favorite part of the playground, the slide. You don't know what changed this day but on your way down you fell pretty hard and you cut your knee.
You were very shy growing up, more of a suffering in silence type, so when you fell you were beyond embarrassed. You could start to feel the hot tears running down your cheek, your hair falling in front of your face when you hear a small voice. “Uh.. are you ok?” you look up and see him. He had a small kind smile on his face, the one that makes you trust someone immediately. You start wiping your tears as he kneels down beside you. You try to not look at him afraid you'll start crying again. “Oh yeah I'm ok..” you try to stand, failing and stumbling into him as he catches you. “I’m- i’m sorry” i look down “Hey, no it’s ok here let me help you the nurse office” he says. “Ok..um thank you” I looked at him and put my arm over his shoulder. “I'm Steve by the way..” you tell him your name “Um you know at least you'll have a pretty cool scar'' he hears a small giggle and he looks over at you, proud of himself for cheering you up. You arrive at the nurses office and she cleans it up and puts a band-aid on it and sends you to class. Steve waited for you and you caught yourself smiling at that. “Hey that’s a pretty cool care bear band aid” you look up at him and smile “ you know what the care bears are?”you say smiling Steve looks over at you with a shy embarrassed laugh. “Hey i love all cartoons” you both laugh at that. You really didn't have a lot of friends and you saw an opportunity and took it. “Would you like to come over to my house after school..maybe?” he looks at you and for a minute you thought he was just being nice and he probably had plenty of other friends and- “Yeah i would maybe we can play ninjas or something” - “ok see later, bye”. You turn the corner smiling to yourself and you feel a funny feeling in your stomach that makes you excited.
Memories are what you have left and that's the way you like to remember him. As the sweet young boy who helped you off the ground. Not as the douchey teenager who chose a title and popularity status over your friendship, not as the boy who left you and broke your heart.
Hi this is my first time ever writing a fanfic. I feel like I kind of rushed it but I would also like to maybe continue writing? Lol anyways enjoy!

Wow 🤩
RETURN - PT 2
summary: five years ago he left you. left you alone with nothing but memories of your love. so how dare he come back now?
contents: fighting, panic attack, anxiety, crying, angst angst angst, aged up neteyam, fem!reader, conflict, 1.8k words
authors note: WOOOO pt2!! ik the stories a lil slow rn BUT the juice is juicing is it not
previous / next
As soon as you uttered those words to him, you span on your heels. Rushing out of the crowd trying to find some escape from the man longingly gazing at your running figure.
Why was he back? He left you along with his family years ago. So why when your mind was starting to calm down from the storm he decides to come back like a bolt of lightning, lighting up the entire sky.
You could hear his calls from behind you, maybe he was chasing after you. You weren’t entirely sure. You were too afraid to look back and see that he wasn’t. That he would let you slip away from him when you were so easy to grasp onto again.
All the feelings, all the sorrow that you supressed for five years were bubbling in your chest again. Suffocating you, as your vision blurred from the unwanted tears welling your eyes. Feelings so intense it was like they had wrapped their hands around your neck, not letting even the tiniest gasp out.
Though you kept rushing away from the scene, even if your body was begging you to slow your pace, to try and take a deep breath. You didn’t. Your feet just kept moving.
His voice rung in your head. Swirling around you as if it was taunting your state. ‘Y/N…let go’ rung inside of you. Over and over again. His sweet voice tingling everything inside of you. His sweet ,sweet voice destroying you, everything that you ever were. Making you into a shell of a woman for five years. Let go.
It kept talking and talking. He kept talking and talking. His voice growing louder. The words jumbling into incoherent noises as you gripped onto your chest gasping for air. The aura around you was muggy, creating a sheen of sweat on the entirety of your body, your baby hairs sticking to your forehead.
“Y/N?” It was too clear, not jumbled enough, as if he was right behind you. Whispering your name so softly off his tongue.
You turned hesitantly, seeing Neteyam hovering over you, reaching his hand out to touch the soft skin of your shoulder.
His hand was cool, a stark contrast to the heat radiating off of your body. His brows were knotted with concern, eyes staring so deeply into you, it felt as if he was trying to have a staring contest with your soul.
The more you looked at him, still trying to regulate your harsh breathing you realised just how much he had changed. He was maybe an entire foot taller then when you had last seen him. His muscles were larger, his entire body broader as his chest heaved. His chest had a large scar, a cavity like scar that was closer to a pinkish colour.
It stood out like stars showing in daytime. His face was tougher, the soft look he once had, changing into a harder one. Matched with long braids that went down to his pecs.
“Y/N? Please.” Your eyes snapped back to his, the grip on your shoulder becoming mind-consuming. Anger filling your core again, rising through your entire body as the air you were gasping for before, was taken in to exhale your agitated sigh.
“Let go.” Your voice was harsh. Nothing like he remembered, you were so different to how he remembered.
Neteyam tried desperately to not remember you by your last encounter. He tried to forget the way you choked on your sobs. He tried to forget the way you begged and begged him. He tried to forget the way you gripped onto him so hard, your nails left bleeding crescents in his legs.
He rather tried to remember the parts of you that he fell in love with. Your soft smile, your sweet voice, your kindness. Your patience, your skill, you. He loved you.
But now as he touched your skin for the first time in what felt like forever, it felt as if he had lost that woman. “Please, I need to talk to you.”
“About what.” You spat at him, shaking his grip off your shoulder.
“Everything.”
“There is nothing to talk about.”
“Yes there is! Y/N there is so much to talk about!” You shook your head, sucking on your bottom lip for a moment to stop a small cry escape from your mouth. “Please.”
“What should we talk about then? Hm?” Your tone was cruel, but you felt no remorse. Right now as you stared at him, you were nothing but angry.
“Apologies.”
“I don’t want your apologies Neteyam. All I wanted was to come with you. Our journey ended a long time ago.” Your words shattered his heart, it hurt you as well. You loved Neteyam. He was all you ever wanted, but you were hurt, you were broken without him, and were put back together with missing pieces.
“No- No it’s not. I’m back. We can be back together-” A mean chuckle escaped your lips.
“What makes you think that you can keep walking in and out of my life?!”
“I had to leave Y/N!”
“And I could’ve come!” You pushed him slightly, hands crazing the scar on his chest. He stumbled back, shaking his head as he looked down at you.
“It wasn’t safe for you Y/N…”
“Oh…I never thought of that! I never thought that escaping war WOULD BE UNSAFE! You got to leave! You got to escape! I was stuck here Neteyam! I was stuck with the sky-people! Do you think they stopped just because your oh so wanted daddy left? NO! So many of us have perished to their weapons. So many.” You didn’t realise that you were punching his chest with every sentence, wrath racking through you as Neteyam stared down at you with teary eyes, taking your punches with pursed lips.
“Beautiful you know I didn’t want to leave you. But it was for the better, I had to.”
“Stop lying to me Neteyam.”
“I’m not lying to you. Please baby.”
“I’m not your baby! Fuck! You left me! You can’t- You can’t just come back and demand me. Do you know how hard it was to let you go?” Neteyam shook his head, pained at the way your voice kept cracking. “I didn’t move for months. I cried non-stop. I didn’t eat, I didn’t hunt. I didn’t do anything. You left me and you took everything that I was with you.”
“I-I’m back…I didn’t want to hurt you, I just needed you to be safe, I couldn’t take you from the forest. Please baby- Y/N, I’m here to fix this. I would’ve never left if I had a choice.” Neteyam was in tears, sticky water dripping down his hollow cheeks as he gripped tightly onto your knuckles. He tried to stare into your eyes, but you avoided his gaze.
“This can’t be fixed Neteyam.”
“No. No it can- Please just fuck. Please. Give me another chance-”
“We can’t do this Neteyam. We can’t just keep begging each other for love.”
“We can do this. We can.”
“Y/N!” Looking behind Neteyams wide shoulders was a stomping Va’tep. His braids swinging aggressively along his back as his gaze sent daggers into the both of you.
You ripped your hands out of Neteyam’s grasp, wiping the tears off your face, straightening your posture as you waltzed towards Va’tep.
“Where the fuck did you go?!” He was racing towards you, feet crushing into the dirt as his rough hands ran down your body looking for any injuries.
“A walk.”
“Are you kidding me? A walk?”
“Yes…I went for a walk.”
“Sure.” Va’tep rolled his eyes, getting the loose hairs out of your face and tucking them behind your ears.
Neteyam stared at you with another man’s hands on you. His heart grew sour, a low growl escaping him as he tried to supress the urge to slit the man’s throat. Neteyam inched closer to the pair, analysing every single thing about them.
The way you leant out of his touch, the way his hands dragged down your body instead of caressing it, the way Va’tep’s eyes wouldn’t linger on you for long enough. He was inferior, what ever he was to you. He was shameful at it.
Even if Neteyam’s face was still stained in tears, he was intimidating to the man in front of you. “Actually…Y/N and I were talking.”
You winced at the way Va’tep’s grip on your arm got extremely tight, as he looked at the man challenging him. He hated challenges.
“Oh! It’s the mighty warrior! Neteyam Sully.” Va’tep let go of you harshly to give Neteyam a rough pat to the back. “He has come running back as fast as he ran away!” Neteyam hissed at him, pushing Va’tep harshly making sure he stumbled on his feet.
“Watch your words.” Neteyam had a finger pointed at Va’tep, if he inched any closer it would be planted right on the middle of his chest.
“Why should I?”
“Or else I’ll make you.” You tried to let out a shout, warning them to stop fighting but it was useless. They were too caught up with their own ego’s they would never listen to you.
“Just like you made Y/N stay?” Neteyam’s face dropped, horrified that his actions were brought up by Va’tep. “Yeah…I was left to clean up your mess, you’re a dick y’know that? Eywa looks down on those who do nothing to respect the sacred bonds.” Va’tep’s teeth were bared as he uttered his arguments.
“You know nothing. Know your place.” Neteyam hissed at him, hand gripped onto the handle of his knife.
“Know your place mighty warrior. Y/N is my mate.”
Neteyam’s head snapped towards you looking for you to deny his words. But all you could do was look down, head hung in shame.
His heart felt heavy. His entire body aching as he stared at you hopelessly. Had he completely lost you? Was his hopes to get you back too naïve?
“You mated with him?”
“No!” Va’tep hissed at your fast reply.
“We are promised…Neteyam. Letting you know because your family has a history of disrespecting bonds.” Va’tep chuckled as he referred to Neteyam’s parents, earning a hearty growl out of Neteyams chest, his tail lashing through the air.
Neteyam looked over to your slanted posture, the way you picked anxiously at your nails watching the two men in front of you interact. He had to leave. Before he did something stupid. He’d be back for you, he was sure of it.
Neteyam turned in a huff, walking back to his family. His shoulders swinging as he stomped away like a hurt child.
Va’tep chuckled walking back over to you, letting his strong arm rest across your shoulders. “I guess the sea always brings in trash.”
But the light always reflects the treasures. And Neteyam was shining.

Can’t wait to read!
🏕 Camp Lovers Lake - Chapters List 🏕
An Eddie Munson x Female Reader summer camp story. Set just before the beginning of season 3 of Stranger Things, with a few diversions from the original plot of the series.
Pairing and tropes • Eddie Munson x Female Reader - fluff, forced proximity, slightly slow burn, summer camp clichés ♥︎
Summary • June, 1985. Close to the city of Hawkins, Indiana, the placid waters of Lovers Lake stand as the perfect background for the homonymous summer camp, where you’re about to be a counselor for the last time before senior year and then, hopefully, college. Your brother Dustin Henderson won’t be with you this year, as he’s chosen to attend Camp Know Where until July - but with your best friend Robin Buckley at your side and the unexpected addition of Steve Harrington to your duo, the upcoming months seem to promise endless fun and exciting adventures nonetheless. However, as you get closer to Eddie Munson, resident metalhead and drug dealer who’s been forced by his uncle to work at Camp Lovers Lake after another missed graduation, your plans for the summer might have to go in an unexpected direction.
Warnings • Cursing, possible mentions and/or depictions of violence, sexually suggestive language. Having no idea where this is going myself, you’ll need to be 18+ to read this fic just in case!
Author’s notes • Hello there! After years of writer’s block, our sweet Eddie brought me back to the world of fanfiction and I couldn’t be happier :) I had this idea in my head of Eddie being a camp counselor who’s a bit grumpy but surprisingly good with kids (we all know he is), sneaking out of his cabin at night to smoke weed on the shores of Lovers Lake… a literal dream! I literally have no idea where this fic will go, so please be kind and let me know if you’re interested in reading it :)

This was soooo cuteeee❤️😭
okay hear me out eddie being in a relationship with chrissy BUT he’s actually in love with reader (his best friend) but he doesn’t even realize it until chrissy points it out? says something like eddie you read her lord of the rings every night on the phone you’re obviously in love with her ??
summary: a clueless eddie munson doesn't realize his best friend his jealous and pulling herself away from him.
warnings: heavy cursing bc duh, angst, sad reader, also mean reader, eddie being dumb, chrissy being a g, & unedited!
note: this was so fun to write i love shit like this.
the freak and the cheerleader- hawkins most peculiar couple.
seeing them walk down the hallways of the high school makes your stomach churn. you couldn’t take your eyes off his leather cladded arm slung around her petite shoulders, and the happy smile on both their dumb faces.
two shaky fists are clenched by your side, jaw tense and teeth gritted tightly together. your eyes focus in on them walking down the hall right past you, noticing how other students turn their heads to stare at the odd couple.
usually, eddie walks to class with you since you both picked your senior year schedule together. he’s your best friend, and he didn’t even acknowledge your presence on the sidelines.
hm, that’s why he didn’t pick you up for school this morning.
being the freaks sidekick automatically makes you one too. you’re a nerd, a freak, a loser… you’ve heard it all, but you couldn’t care less about the names being thrown at you- especially when you had eddie to keep your attention off of them.
honestly, him not telling you that he has suddenly started dating chrissy fucking cunningham pissed you off. you always knew he had a little crush on her, but you didn’t think he had the balls to do anything about it. the boy tells you every single aspect about his life, personal and even grotesque things that make you cringe, and gag too. you still love him even with his lack of a filter, but him being so secretive isn’t like him.
you slam your locker shut with an grumbly sigh, making a speedy dart straight towards class. your feet turn down the hallway, spotting the classroom door that’s blocked by the one and only, eddie and chrissy.
fucking great!
you stop in your tracks, watching at how he looks down at her with that stupid, stupid smirk on those perfect fucking lips. how she bats her eyelashes, and hooks her fingers in his belt loops to pull him closer. you suck in a deep shaky breath before chugging onwards toward them.
“uhm, if you don’t mind, could you move-” your body slithers between eddie and the doorframe, pressing your back against his as you attempt to squeeze past him, “-please!” you huff out as you roughly push your butt back against his so he stumbles forward into the girl.
his unruly head of hair whips to face you, his anger filled eyes soften at the sight of you, “hey, why’d you have to push me so hard?”
“because you’re in the way, dumbass.” you scoff, rolling your eyes before turning your back on him to shuffle to your desk. chrissy and eddie finally part, making their way to their assigned seats.
somehow in the beginning of the year, you and eddie convinced the teacher to let you sit by each other since you both work ‘best’ together, but it’s really just you giving him all the answers.
he slides into the desk beside to you, his eyes burning into your skin as you unpack your supplies. “hey, you.” he whisper-yells at you, leg stretching across the aisle to kick your shin with the toe of his boot.
“can you stop?” you bite back, face stone cold with annoyance written across your features. you roll your eyes at him once again, before moving your attention to the whiteboard. his hands go up in surrender, eyebrows raising in surprise at your attitude.
“did you eat today?” he questions, “i know how you get when you’re hungry.” he rummages through his backpack, trying to find a candy bar he left for you in there.
“yes, eddie.” you hiss out, “i actually did eat. if you actually paid attention at lunch, then you would have known.” your eyes don’t dare to glance over at him.
“jesus christ.” he almost laughs, “did someone piss in your cheerios this morning?” he mumbles under his breath.
“shut up.” you grumble, scribbling down stuff in your notes as you attempt to pay attention to the lesson.
eddie mumbles something under his breath, slamming a heavy textbook down on the surface of his desk. some heads then around to look at him, making him glare right back at them.
he continues to stay silent throughout the class, but you can’t help but notice the loving glances him and chrissy share. your heart aches at the sight, wishing eddie was looking at you like that instead.
you imagine that he walks her to every single one of her classes, not caring if he’s late to his own. he’ll kiss her goodbye, letting his hands roam her tiny body before the teachers break them up. she’ll giggle at his jokes that she doesn’t understand, and force him to go to football games to cheer for her instead of hellfire club with you.
the bell rings, making you snap back into reality. you jump to your feet, shoveling the items on your desk in your arms. “wait!” eddie calls out to you as you dodge the swarm of students to get away from him.
eddie munson has never felt more conflicted in his life. you’ve never acted like this towards him, unless you were on your monthly friend. maybe that’s why you have such an attitude.
as he goes to push through the crowd of students to follow you, someone tugs on his arm. he sighs quietly as he turns around and looks down to find chrissy with a big grin on her face, “you ready?”
a small reluctant smile forms on his face, slightly glancing behind him to look for you. he cranes his neck to look over everyone’s heads, but you’re long gone. “yeah… let’s go.” he mutters, tugging her out of the classroom to make his way outside.
you’re sitting in the blistering summer heat on the pavement, the sun blaring down on your skin. you can feel the sweat soaking the back of your shirt, eyes darting over the parking lot to look for your moms car.
since you don’t have your own car to drive to school, eddie always gives you a ride, but today you couldn’t be bothered. during lunch, you called your mom to let her know you need her to pick you up. she blindly agreed and hung up on you since she was busy at work, so hopefully she remembered.
“hey, sweets.” eddie’s familiar voice sounds from behind you, making you whip your head around to look up at him. you bring your hand above your eyes to shade your vision, his face finally focusing into view.
“ready?”
“oh- i thought- since you- cancelled on me this morning? i didn’t think you’d want to.. drive me home.” you softly stutter, your quiet words make his face screw up in confusion. he plops down on the sidewalk next to you, his face screwing up from the bright sunlight.
“i would never not drive, my girl home. i only cancelled ‘cause i had the bubble guts.” he shrugs nonchalantly with a smug grin.
“ew, i didn’t need to know that.” you swat at his arm, letting out a giggle.
“there it is!” he jumps toward you with a crazy grin, eyes wild and face mere centimeters away from crashing into yours.
“what?! what is it?” you shift away from him slightly in surprise, eyes looking around for what he was talking about.
“your smile! you big idiot… i missed it.” he chuckles, pushing his hand through his hair as he shakes his head.
you can feel your cheeks heat up, a blush creeping up on your already heated skin. “today just hasn’t been a good day…” you breath out, dropping your head to your knees to slightly hide your smiling face.
“why so? did i do something?” eddie’s chocolatey eyes look over your face for any sort of reaction.
“no, of course you didn’t.” you lie through your teeth, giving him a small reassuring smile.
eddie grins, his arm instinctively wrapping around your frame to pull you into his side, “good. i was worried you were pissed at me for something. i don’t like when you’re mad at me.”
all you can do is chuckle as you snuggle your face into the warm leather of his jacket, taking in his familiar scent.
“hey eddie?” a tiny voice sounds from behind you both, making your head lift up to look back at where it came from.
“oh hey, chris.” eddie jumps to his feet, eyes slightly glancing at you before his attention was taken away by her- once again…
“can you give me a ride home? my friends left without me already.” she twirls her ponytail between her fingers, batting her long dark eyelashes and chewing on that obscenely loud gum. her blue eyes look down at you, then back at eddie.
eddie gulps, then smiles. “yeah, babe. of course.”
the nickname sends a shiver down your spine, your breathing stops in your throat. the next few turn of events makes you want to projectile vomit everywhere.
chrissy stands on her tippy toes to reach his lips, pressing her shiny glossed ones to his. you watch how his hands find their place on her hips, like he’s done this numerous times. his fingertips slightly press into her skin, pulling her close to his body. your blood runs cold, and anger sizzles in your chest.
your brain takes over, subconsciously making you stand to your feet and speed walk away from them. tears burn in the corner of your eyes as you wrap your arms around yourself, trying your hardest to get away as fast as possible.
“hey- wait!” eddie’s voice is muffled by the kiss, “where are you going?” his voice calls out from behind you.
“i’m just… gonna walk home! i need to clear my head.” you muster up a strong voice to yell back at him, taking a sharp turn to disappear behind the building of the school.
eddie groans loudly, throwing his head back to look up at the sky in exasperation. “god, this girl is going to kill me! jesus christ, i need to go get her.”
chrissy’s grip tightens on his jacket when he goes to follow you, “maybe… she just needs to think! to clear her head, like she said.”
eddie’s eyes zone out on where you were once walking away from him. a defeated sigh tumbles past his lips before his eyes glance down at the girl in his arms,“there’s something up with her. she’s been acting weird all day.”
“maybe she’s jealous?” chrissy suggests, making eddie’s head pull away from her slightly with a confused look on his face.
“jealous? why would she be jealous?”
“jealous… maybe... of us?” her eyes drop to look at their feet nervously.
“of us? no, no… she doesn’t get jealous. if she had a problem with us, she would definitely let me know.” he laughs in disbelief, knowing how outspoken you are with him. you have no filter when it comes to eddie, you can say just about anything and not feel judged.
“okay…” chrissy drops the subject, but obviously she doesn’t believe him.
“soooo, you- uh… wanna go back to mine?”
chrissy’s eyes perk up at the sound of that. she tugs him to his van to quickly usher him inside to drive.
on the walk home, you silently weep to yourself the whole time. your arms are wrapped tightly around you, knuckles white from the pressure. the tears on your cheeks dry up as your brain scrambles to think about something else, but it was all just chrissy and eddie; every time you close your damn eyes.
you don’t know how he never noticed you fell for him. maybe, he’s really just that clueless, or just refused to look at you in the same way you look at him.
maybe it’s because you don’t have perfect strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes, that your nails aren’t perfectly painted all the time, and you never wear girly clothes.
you hurl your body through the front door of your house, immediately scurrying up the steps to your room.
the bedroom door slams shut behind you, the items on your wall tremble from the force. you crash on your mattress, dropping your backpack to the ground with a loud thud that reverberates throughout your room.
you let out the loudest, guttural groan into your comforter- all the frustration pent up in your body pouring into the fabric. “god, this fucking sucks! fuck you, heart! fuck you for these stupid feelings!” your scream is muffled by the mattress.
you lay there, face down until you can’t breathe. you reluctantly roll onto your back, sucking in a deep breath of fresh air. you wish that your bed would pull you in, suffocate you with a heavy hug that leads to your demise.
as your ears focus back into reality, you realize your room is eerily quiet, other than the sounds of crickets kicking up as the sun sets in the sky.
brrrrrriiiiing.
the phone on your bedside table rings to life, making you fly up from your comfortable spot on your bed. a slightly pressure forms in your head from getting up too quickly, but you push through the sensation. your hand grips the handle of the light blue receiver, swiftly bringing it up to your face to answer. “hello?” you hoarse voice speaks to the caller.
“hey, you. ready for lord of the rings? we’re on uh… chapter three…” he trails off as he flips loudly through the pages of the book, “page…?” he hums.
“ed, i can’t tonight.” you cut him off before he could say anything else.
“oh…” his voice is quiet, almost sounding like he is truly upset, “but- we- every night?” he stumbles over his words.
“not tonight.” you simply state, biting back the lump growing in your throat. your heart aches, it truly feels as if someone is wringing it out like a wet towel.
“alright… can we talk then?” he suggests softly, desperate to hear your voice.
“eddie…” your voice croaks unwillingly, swallowing back your emotions.
“what is up with you? seriously. what the fuck did i do?”
“i’m not getting into this right now. i need to sleep.”
you can hear the bed creak in the background as he moves, “are you sick? do i need to drive my ass over there right now?”
“no! i’m not sick! and no, you definitely don’t need to come over! my mom will kill me and you!”
“fuck that. i don’t care about your mom. i care about you, and you’ve been acting dodgy all day today and i can’t stand it-”
“eddie! just- leave me alone!” your voice raises at him, cutting him off.
the other side goes silent, waiting for him to respond to your outburst. for a moment, you think he hung up on you.
“fine.” his voice is cold, too cold for your liking, “have a good night.”
the line clicks in your ear and hums, indicating that he hung up.
the phone in your hand burns your palm, causing you to throw it at the floor in anguish. tears are freely streaming out of your eyes as you mourn for the friendship you might have just fucked up royally.
your heart shatters into a million pieces in your chest, cutting you open from the inside out, “fuck!” you frustratingly slam your fists down on the bed, before bringing your hands to your eyes to cup your face.
the next day, you don’t show up to school. you refuse to leave the safe haven of your bed, and most definitely refuse to face eddie munson and his girlfriend.
surprisingly, he actually shows up in the morning to pick you up for school, but you ignore his insistent knocks. he calls you a few times throughout the day, but you don’t answer. he calls you when he gets home, and receives no answer.
“fuck!” he slams the phone back on the wall, his forehead rests on the cool surface beside it. “eddie, why don’t we just go over there and see if her mom answers the door?” chrissy asks from her spot on his kitchen counter.
“no! if i go over there when her mom is home, she’ll hate me even more.” his voice is quiet and shaky, almost as if he’s holding back his tears.
“…are you in love with her?”
“what?” his head spins around to face her, eyes red and slightly glossy.
“i mean, you literally read her lord of the rings on the phone every night, don’t you?” she laughs at her own sentence, shaking her head, “and you’re crying because she’s just ignoring you.”
eddie’s mouth opens and closes like a fish out of water, his brain scrambling to find a response.
“eddie. you and i both know the truth, deep down. you’re meant for each other.” she hops down from the counter to walk towards him, “you’re best friends. you can’t let her ruin your friendship because of me.”
“it’s not because of-.” he goes to talk, but chrissy hushes him.
“i’m a girl. i know it’s because of me.” she chucklss again, her hand coming up to pat his bicep. “it was fun while it lasted, munson.” she raises herself on her tippy toes, pecking his cheek. just before she swipes her keys off the counter and walks out of his trailer.
eddie stays in the same position, listening her engine igniting and the gravelly sound of her tires pulling away.
his mind replays every moment with you. how you play dungeons and dragons so good, that it makes his collar hot. how you were the first supporter of the hellfire club, and maybe he felt relieved that he failed a few grades just so you could catch up and help him.
he thinks about how your hair blows in the wind, and whenever he catches the smell of you and that obsecene perfume you wear, it makes his belly do somersaults. he thinks about how you can jam out to the music he loves with him, and how lovely it feels when your arms wrap around him. his heart grows heavy with need from how badly he wants to kiss you right now.
“holy fucking shit. i am in love with her.”
his heart drops to his feet when he realizes how distraught you must be from suddenly seeing him dating chrissy. everything clicks into place, and now he realizes why your mood has been so shitty. chrissy was right, you were jealous!
“oh my god. i’m so fucking stuuupid!” he spits out angrily at himself, his fingers grip his hair at the roots as he starts to pace. “this whole fucking time. this whole fucking time!” he booms out the last sentence.
his heart races as he grabs his keys to his van and sprints out his door, not even locking it behind him. he hops in the driver side of his van, not bothering to buckle since it’ll take too much time.
the tires squeak out of the driveway, pulling away fast and making a beeline towards your house. he curses under his breath, hoping that he didn’t fuck up your friendship by being an ignorant asshole.
eddie drifts onto your street, pulling up to your house and slamming on his breaks. his head flies forward as he pants, not caring about the whiplash he just gave himself. eddie climbs out of his car, slamming the door shut and sprinting to your front door.
his fist comes up to slam three hard knocks against the surface, his other arm resting on the doorframe for support.
when you heard the loud knocks, your head instantly picks up from your pillow. it sounded as if the police was at your door.
you carefully listen to the noise in your house, the hum of the tv and the footsteps of your mother running to the door. you can slightly hear a muffled conversation start once the door opens,
“hi ma’am. i’m here to see your daughter.”
“my daughter?“
“look- she’s my best friend. tell her that eddie the banished is here.”
“um, alright. one sec.”
you listen to her steps come close to the staircase, before her loud voice yells up them, “honey! you have a friend here to see you!”
you instantly perk up, blinking away the sleep in your eyes as you roll out of bed. you glance at yourself in the mirror, thankful you decided to finally shower today.
you swing your bedroom door open, making your way down the steps sleepily. “who is it?” your voice is quiet as your knuckles gently rub at your eye.
“it’s me.” eddie’s familiar voice sounds.
your eyes look up from the steps, halting your motion on the last few. “what are you doing here?”
“i’m here to see you.”
your worried eyes dart between your mom, who’s looking at you very confused, and eddie, who is very out of breath.
“what? why?” you trot down the last few to get closer to him, your eyes wide as you feel the panic sinking deep in your chest.
“honey? do i need to call someone?”
“no! mom, just give us a second… please.”
she lets out a frustrated sigh and saunters back into the living room to the tv. once she’s far enough away, your hands rise to his chest to push him outside with you following. you quietly click the door shut, before turning your attention to him.
“eddie, you really shouldn’t be here.”
“why not? you haven’t talked to me in days. i miss you, i miss reading lord of the rings with you every goddamn night. i miss seeing you at hellfire meetings.”
“eddie. please… i just can’t do that stuff with you anymore.”
“why not?” he almost stomps his foot like a toddler, his fists in balls by his side.
“because.” you exasperate for the millionth time, throwing your hands up into the air like he should know.
“because why? you need to tell me.”
every nerve in your body wants you to reach out and strangle the persistent boy. heat settles on your chest, as your dormant emotions bubble at the surface.
“because- because of chrissy!” you blurt out, chest heaving wildly.
eddie doesn’t even look phased by your suddenly outburst, “chrissy doesn’t even matter anymore. she broke with me.”
your heart sinks for him, but your stomach erupts in butterflies, “what-?”
“no, you be quiet, missy.” he points his index finger at you like a lecturing teacher, “she broke up with me. wanna know why? it’s she was right all-fucking-long.” he chuckles manically, shaking his head.
“and you know what, that girl helped me realize that i’m in love with you; that i’ve been in love with you!” his head falls back to look at the sky, “this whole entire time!” he shouts out to the clouds. he seems just as shocked as you are right now.
“that whenever i see you, those butterflies in my stomach aren’t from the gas station burrito i ate, it’s from you. because i love you. i always have. everything i did with chrissy, you were on my mind, but i’m such an ignorant douchebag i never even realized my own feelings for you.”
“oh my god.”
“look, i know you feel the same way right? you were hurt because i never told you about me and her because i was in a trance that fuckingpompomwielder had me in.”
you giggle at his words, eyelashes batting in attempt to hold back your tears, “eddie. i love you so much. i always have, from day one in that stupid gym class.” you wipe up the dampness under your eyes with your fingers, sniffling loudly.
before you can say anything else, eddie’s hands are cupping your cheeks roughly to pull you in for a much needed kiss. his lips feel mystical against yours, as if he’s other-worldly. sparks ignite across your skin, heating you up more than the summer night air ever could.
your arms drape around his slender waist, pulling his front flush against yours. his heavy breathing is evident as he pulls back from you, big brown eyes staring right into yours. “god dammit, that was even better than i imagined.” he slyly smirks down at you, one his hands sliding back into your hair as the other drops to your waist.
“you’re so smooth with that.” you compliment, making one of his eyebrows raise. “with what?” he hums out, his eyes stare at the sheen of your lips.
eddie brings his bottom lip between his teeth as he admires you, hoping he gets another chance to kiss you before he has to leave.
“with everything.” you brush a stray curl out of his eyes, letting your knuckles gently caress his cheekbone. he nuzzles into your advances, smiling softly at you.
“i just know what you like.” his fingertips tap your side with each word.
“hm, you do, huh?” you purr out provocatively, trying to egg him on to see how far he will go.
“i do. wanna test that theory?” a suggestive look in his eyes glance into yours, before motioning his head towards his van.
“let’s get out of here, munson.”
