I definitely understand how cars can be and often are an indicator of āluxuryā but in my area at least, rural and low income with few local businesses and any major stores often ten or more miles away from peopleās homes and very limited public transportation systems, cars arenāt a sign of luxury. Theyāre necessary to go almost anywhere. Many families that I know only have one car. Many people that I know who do have a car have old cars that have broken down multiple times or are on the verge of breaking down.
The closest store to me is a Dollar General, and itās four miles away. I could take two hours and walk there and then another two hours and walk back, or if I had a bike, I could ride a bike there. But what could I do in winter when itās too cold and icy and snowy to walk or ride a bike there? What if I need to buy something thatās not available there? What if I need to go to the doctors or I want to go to a church? Those are even further away.
In my area, having a car is necessary to do basically anything. I simply want to point this out, because if you see someone online mention that they have a car, please donāt assume theyāre automatically rich and privileged. I have a car, because my job is 15 miles away from my apartment, my parents church is 20 miles away from my apartment, the closest Walmart is also 20 miles away from my apartment, and thereās no public systems of transportation in my rural country area. And Iām broke, living paycheck to paycheck, constantly searching for things on sale and coupons to use, live in a small two-room apartment. My car is not a luxury. In my situation, my environment, my location, it is a necessity in order for me to work in order to pay rent and buy necessities.

This really kinda sums up how I felt when I figured out Iām aroace. Accepting that it was okay for me to be attracted to anyone, that took a while. And it was freeing to accept that about myself. And then realizing that just because I could be attracted to anyone and I was still a good person, I donāt actually have to be attracted to anyone. And Iām still a good person. And thereās a freedom in realizing both those things, of letting go of the heteronormative pressure of society, then letting go of the allonormative pressure of society. Realizing both those things about myself, I felt incredibly free. I can be attracted to anyone, but I donāt have to be attracted to anyone.
And now Iām in a relationship with someone I love and adore so much. Do I think sheās absolutely beautiful and attractive and wonderful and perfect and amazing and on and on? Absolutely. Am I attracted to her in any traditional ways, any allo ways, any easy-to-describe ways? Nope. But Iām very much in love with her. And realizing my freedom, not only in who I can love but how I can love? Thatās something very important to me.

I preface this by saying I have barely watched any of the show so far. Reason being, Iāve read the books so many times that I kept on expecting a scene to go one way, and it went totally another way, and I got whiplash as my brain tried to process it. And I do not mean this in a bad way whatsoever!!! Itās good that the show is different, for many reasons. Reasons that I have seen people discuss, and yet since I have not seen much of the show, I do not feel qualified to comment on specifics since I cannot name specifics clearly. But I can say that the show is a new version, a new CANONICAL version, of the stories of Percy Jackson and the demigods and gods and everyone, and the differences from the show and the books, those differences are resonating with people in entirely new ways than the books did. And thatās a good thing! I view the books and the show as two separate universes, both equally canon but different universes. The things that are different between the two, those are good things because the story can spin in a new way, resonate with people differently, and yet the underlying message will still be the same (at least Iām assuming and hoping, considering I havenāt yet watched what is out of the show). Anyways thatās my take, separate universes that are equally canonical.
And yes, I do plan on watching the show, I just need to make sure Iām not hyperfixated on the books when I watch the show lol, that I can enjoy the alternate universe with a different canonical story line.
Hi guys, wanted to discuss something going on for a while now. What the hell is wrong with pjotwt? Like...whats wrong with this people? Do you see what they say? What they are even trying to do?
First of all, let me start by speaking about the cast. They are all wonderful children, Leah especially! She is doing an amazing job as Annabeth. But book Annabeth still exists yk? She is and she is literally white. It is not racist. But denying about a character being white in the books, even spreading hate like this...is racist. There are people out there related with Annabeth for years. People love her, every version, maybe book more maybe even the movie. How can you disrespect her like this? And most importantly, how can they attack an artist like this, with an art being so beautiful. What they are trying to do is not protecting Leah, it is spreading hate. It is awful. Making this fandom toxic, so so much.
Them trying to erase book Annabeth because she is white, trying to cover her by painting on her, shaming artists, calling people that loves her racist...What do we do about this in pjo fandom? This fandom used to be so beautiful, but now. This people are not part of the fandom in my eyes, because real fans, would respect every version of the characters, love them with their anything, even flaws. They would protect this characters because they love them, so much. And not to mention this characters are the ones Rick wrote 20 years ago, they were with us for so long.
What do tumblr think about this I wonder? Since pjo fandom is pretty active here :3

i think an aspect of rape culture that we donāt talk about often enough is the whole myth that ur first time is supposed to be painful and a bloody mess. like i know the myth itself has been addressed and debunked many times but we donāt talk about how intrinsically that is linked with rape culture. the normalisation of sex that causes physical harm and pain from the minute u become sexually active is so tragic and awful? like generations of girls have been lied to and told that itās ok for you to physically suffer during ur first time having sex and so many boys have been convinced itās not their responsibility to make sure that likeā¦.doesnāt happen? the number of conversations iāve had with girl friends and weāve exchanged stories of our first times and so many of them were in so much pain they told their partner to stop and he was likeĀ ādw itās supposed to hurtā and carried onā¦..? or friends who casually mention bleeding for literally days afterwards ??? like thatās something thatās totally normal and not a sign of serious physical trauma? rape culture is honestly so disgusting and so pervasive and women have to put up with so much and im like so tired of itĀ

Her parents died in a plane crashā¦ probably not Zeus interfering, but since one of her parents were likely a descendant of a nymph or nereid, a storm spirit or a group of storm spirits couldāve easily caused the plan to crashā¦
oh, don't mind me. Just thinking about how Percy canonically used nature magic even though that shouldn't have been possible for a normal demigod. (in the lightning thief on gabe, I swear)
oh don't mind me, i'm just thinking about how Sally seems to get younger when she's near the sea and her eyes change colors as well.
oh don't mind me, i'm just thinking about how Percy described the sea nymph his father sent to talk to him as looking exactly like his mother.
oh don't mind me, i'm just thinking about how Percy is part sea nymph and nobody fucking noticed.
EDIT: no I don't think sally is a full blooded sea nymph I still think she is more human than mythological creature. I just think it might explain a few things

if a friend is experiencing/has experienced a loss and is grieving, and you donāt have any experience in the arena of loss, please allow me to offer some advice on navigating conversations about the deceased loved one.
not every mention of their person is the saddest part of their day. sometimes saying āthis was their favorite songā āoh they would have LOVED thisā āGod I wish they could hear the conversation happening at the next tableā āI wish they were hereā is lighthearted. the mention of their person can be joyful. or melancholic. or, of course, sad. it can be all of those things at once. but no matter, react to the sentiments as just another piece of the conversation.
you donāt need to drop a 55 pound weight onto the conversation and stare at us in pity or silently stare in a combination of confusion and discomfort and sadness.
itās okay. we know theyāre dead. you acknowledging that in an equal state of nonchalantness will not shock us to death, itās not tasteless or crude. itās a relief. our dead people are still parts of our lives just like anything else, and giving your loved ones the space and comfort and safety to talk about their person is huge.
you can always respond by asking to hear more, by mimicking their tone. your friend laughs and says āthey would have LOVED thisā, take it as a chance to learn why! was their favorite color yellow? did they love kitschy little throw pillows? did they utterly DESPISE kitschy throw pillows? are they referencing a specific story?
if they see someone that looks like their person and get a little sad, ask what reminds them of their person. what was their favorite feature of their person? does it make them mostly sad to see someone who looks like their person? did it make them feel a little bit happy for a moment?
we want to talk about our deceased loved ones. we yearn to mention people who shaped us. the way our society has conditioned us to behave around grief, to respond to the grieving, and to grieve ourselves is so backwards and void of empathy, so we often donāt say what we wish we could say. (bell hooks has a wonderful chapter on this in all about love, new visions (ch 11))
by offering opportunities for people to reminisce you are truly making an impact and fostering a safe environment for those around you to grieve in ways weāre often not offered.

Went to the Aboriginal artifact exhibit in Chicago. And itās interesting. How many blankets and masks and totem poles say āunknown sourceā, because every five seconds my mom would stop and point to something and say. āPaulineās grandmother made that,ā or, āThat belongs to Mikeās family, I should call himā because. Itās all stolen

Remember the survey I did six months ago and also a year ago? Well, I'm doing yet another one! This survey is to collect information about people who feel that the multigender label describes them. If you don't feel that way, this survey is not for you, but it would be appreciated if you reblog this or share it with multigender people you know. If you are questioning whether you identify as multigender, you may take the survey, but please specify in the first question that you are questioning.Ā
You can take the survey here :D

Please sign this petition. Almost all of the 500k books that they removed are actually no longer in print and inaccessible to many.
The publishers did not care about those books in the first place but they did this anyway because they have vendetta against open access.

Not to brag but my cats are Artistsā¢
[Medium: Claws on rainbow scratchboard]
Remi works with a hesitant, erratic violence, creating a piece as light and fluffy as she is, and signing her work by hole-punching it with her teeth.
Timmy uses bold, strong lines to evoke some kind of powerful event, echoing his powerful presence and loud voice.
Nubbins, truly inspired, creates a high-energy piece that symbolizes the void where his brain should be, surrounded by chaos and mischief.
Kona, a reclusive avante garde artist, refused to work with me around. Only in quiet solitude did she create this haunting, introspective work.
