Kurt loved the bags Julie made, so Blaineâs comment was quite welcomed. âOh, Iâm sure I will. She always has the best eye to combine the most odd things so they look amazing; weâre kindred spritis in that way.â He chuckled, their bodies walking almost attached together at some point when the crowd on the sidewalk increased suddenly. When they were about half a block from the market he nodded while he heard Blaine talking about their upcoming trip to Lima. âThat sounds fine to me. Iâm sure your mom would be delighted to see you again. She always keeps saying how much she misses you whenever we happen to talk on the phone.â Before stepping onto the final crossing Kurt stopped Blaine by placing his hand on his arm and made sure there were no oncoming vehicles, then they kept on walking. âDo you want to go in there now, or after weâre done with the shopping?â
Blaine liked Kurt had a friendly relationship with his mom. It made it easier for him because she liked to know what he was up to and for her to know Kurt made him happy. His father was okay, for the most part, but there was something about the manâs attitude regarding the fact he lived with him that it was seen as something shameful. Blaine was unapologetic when it came to his sexuality and his father saw what he went through years ago. He thought, by now, heâd understand and accept him but he had to accept the fact that a day many never come here his father would be happy about who he is. âWe should do it afterwards.â He said after a long thought. âWhen you last talked to my mom did she make mention about us staying with her or did she keep vague?â This was a way to test if his dad was coming around or not. Plus, it wasnât as if he and Kurt were in a relationship. They were only roommates.

âI know, right? Oh my god!â Barry too made a face similar to Marleyâs, his nose scrunched in a âyuckâ kind of way, then they both laughed at that and kept on eating up. âNo.. I havenât. But if that was the case I could simply buy some fish steaks and cook them at home, instead of buying those stuffed fish rolls and pay twice as much for them, donât you think?â He giggled, then just as he was taking another sip of his iced tea, he looked back at her from under the rim of the glass, his lips curled in a soft grin. âI can deal with those oddsâŠâ he said quietly, somewhere between flirty and coy. He had never been good at flirting, and his friend Iris could vouch for years of ill failed moments in which he attempted it, but in a weird way, and maybe yes, because he was older now, it felt so much more.. easy with Marley. There was something about her Barry couldnât pin down just yet, some sort of innocence mixed with awe, and also wonder. A beautiful open mind, in an equally beautiful person. He felt the heat spreading up his neck and drank a good sip of tea for good measure. âBut to be fair, I promise Iâll try it sometime, yeah? Then you can have my real opinion.â He smiled at her and looked down at his almost empty pizza plate.
This was nice. Unexpected and nice, which wasnât a combination she was used to with her day to day life. Maybe some years ago, when she was in high school she had a better chance of meeting a nice guy but while in college everyone was so stuck on their studying and whoever was in a relationship already met during orientation or maybe one of those Greek house parties that she was never invited to. And what was she doing thinking about relationships with a guy who she only been with for one day? There were plans to meet again but she needed to take it easy and not jump into things. Then, again, she didnât want to let it drag for a long time like she had in the past. âI think that sounds like a fair plan,â She said, basically repeating his words back to him.Â
Marley finished her pizza, which took a long time because she was still trying to watch her intake after all his time. The tea she sipped felt refreshing but watered down at this point because theyâd been talking for awhile. In fact, they were the last ones in the dining hall while it was being cleaned. âShould we get going? I donât want to keep them from cleaning this table. They probably have their own things to study for.â

Kurt smiled at him, but when he noticed the blush covering his cheeks he looked down quickly and shook his head. âNah.. Those arenât that bad, plus you know how to rock the mature look. Trust me, I work on fashion, so I know what Iâm talking about.â In reality, Kurt wanted to tell Brian that he looked super hot, but that would had been inappropiate. He too grabbed a fistful of peanuts, but he ate it two at the time. âMe? Let me see⊠Iâve been single for about a year. I was engaged at my senior year at school, and thatâs something I wouldnât recommend. Maybe itâs just me being too cynical, I donât know, but in the end it turned we were too young, and ended up wanting different thing from life that the ones we thought we did. Adult life isnât as easy like you picture it inhigh school, huh?â He ate a couple more peanuts and shrugged. âNow, Iâm far too busy to focus on that. And work is something that makes me happy so-â Another shrug.
âActually. I know a little something about being engaged too young.â Brian related to what Kurt shared and moved to be slightly more comfortable at the bar. âWhen I was in high school I proposed to my girlfriend at the time. We were together for two years and I thought this was it. This is who I want to be with. This happened prom night. We were drunk and in a hotel room. Seemed great at the time. But a year later, when she visited me at school she told me that sheâd been talking to someone else and wanted to see where things could lead.â He sighed. âOne heartbreak there. And then my ex wife was the other. I would say I donât have the greatest luck when it comes to relationships once marriage or the idea of marriage is involved.â he finished his beer and ordered another. This will have to be his last one. âI think itâs great you go into something you like. I went to school to be a Western Civ professor but havenât actually done anything with it. Just stuck at this dead end job until I can quit it. I need to get away from my boss. He and I donât get along.â

His blue eyes looked like beams as he looked at the other male, wide as plates while he blinked, as if it was needed to process what he had just heard. âThey⊠put cheesecake on the ice cream? Oh⊠I think I just found my new favorite spot in the town!â He chuckled, though he wasnât kidding at all; he would definitely check that place out sometime soon, and if he was lucky⊠maybe Matt would join him. No harm in wishful thinking. They stepped the side after he made his order and the paid for it, then when he heard about gym, and his colleagues, and the image of a bunch of firemen working out in the same room gave him tickles in the pit of his stomach.Â
âOh my.. You sure have left me plenty to think about there. But in all honesty, I would think about you like that, not the other guys.â Kurt looked up at Matt and winked back at him, loving the way they were playful towards each other. âI prefer doing my workout in the privacy of my own apartment. I was never a big fan of sweaty gyms and all that, not even in high school. I used to dread to time when I had to go to the locker room, and even then I waited for everyone to leave before I went there.â He shrugged. âSomeone⊠like me had to their bases covered during high school, you know.â They were soon called out and handed their delicious cones. âShould we find an empty table?â
âTell you what, since Iâm a nice guy and I like to encourage people to do what makes them happy, we should make our next hangout one where we eat something we donât get much of. Youâll get that cheesecake ice cream and Iâll probably go for something along the lines of a big ass burger or pizza. Or a pizza-wrapped burger if such a thing exists.â He laughed and went along with Kurt to a table once he asked about it. Matt set his butt down on the chair and looked at the guy with a smile. âOr it can be anything, really. Iâm one of those people who likes to try most things once. So I introduced you to the concept of cheesecake in ice cream. Maybe you know of something I donât.â
He leaned forward and grabbed a few napkins, sliding some Kurtâs way. âIâd offer to let you sit and watch me work out but then other people might find out and then try to get in on that action. We could charge admission though. Donate the money to a charity. So, itâll not only pump our egos but help the community. Actually...itâs not a half bad idea.â He looked away while in thought before he started laughing. âWhy did you go through all that trouble to avoid being around people in the locker room? Did they pick on you or something?â

Barry hummed a bit louder than intended, both from how good the pizza was, and also in agreement with Marley. âFrosting licking is such a good thing, oh my god. I simply canât understand why people would frown at that!â he said with a little giggle, then took a sip of his drink before he ate some more pizza. Occasionally he would look up at Marley as discretely as he could, her big, beautiful blue eyes reacting to everything she felt and heard; it was like he could actually get a glimpse of her soul through her eyes, and it was beautiful. What? He shook his head to himself, then stuffed his mouth with more pizza before he said something not proper, and he thought about her question for a bit, while he swallowed his food down. âAt the risk of losing our newfound friendship, sushi. I hate it. Canât stand it. Canât stand anything to do with raw fish. Just⊠no.â He looked at her and pouted. âAre we still friends?â he asked shyly, a small smile curling his lips.
Marley savored her meal as much as she could but it reached a point where she felt she went to slow with it and by her second slice of pizza she ate it normally; dotting the side of her lips with sauce and not realizing it. âSushi is a hit or miss with me. Sometimes I like it and then there are ones that are too fishy and it makes me-â she made a funny face that with a mixture between a grimace and laugh because she couldnât believe she showed him that. âHave you tried it cooked? They actually have that and itâs not bad.â She offered as a way to make the conversation not be on the gross raw fish side. And yeah. Weâre friends.â Then, feeling a touch bold and playfully her eyes went from her pizza slice to him and added, âFor now...â Marley tried not to smile with that but it was already there as soon as the word was out.

Kurt felt bad about the fact that someone so genuinally nice, and also handsome like Brian was feeling so troubled, for variuos things in his life, and since there was hardly anything he could do to help, for now he could only offer a lending ear for him to pour all that stress out, which Kurt didnât mind at all. âDonât apologize, Brian. Itâs all good. Like I said, Iâm a good listener, so you should take that chance, because it seems to me youâre not used to unload all those thoughts often. And you know what? If you keep it all inside, you will get wrinkles before you have to, and you should prevent those in a way you can!â He chuckled, then finished his vodkat tonic, just as Brian was getting his second beer, and he waved at the bartender. âPeanuts?â he offered Brian, the peanuts already in a small bowl, which Kurt had asked the bartender to bring along.
Brian had to find what Kurt said as nice, which sent a type of appreciative smile to the man. âI donât think thatâs done me much good. You can see I have a few wrinkles already.â He moved his hand to motion the side of his face and laughed. âYouâre right about keeping it in. I used to be good about sharing whatâs on my mind. All the stresses. My parents and sister are good about listening but after my marriage to my ex, it set me back.â This was information which surprised him to share. What was it with him which made it easy to open up? He eyed the small bowl of peanuts and scooped some into his hand. âNow you know I have an ex. An ex wife to be exact. Divorced a year ago.â He threw the salted peanuts into his mouth and chewed on them. âWhat about you?â

Kurt jumped a little when he felt Blaine standing so close to him, his heart also having the same reaction to that; of course, that was only for Kurt to experience, and also to know, since he couldnât let his roommate know about his silly and platonic intentions towards him, or the way his skin warmed whenever he touched it, even casually- âUh, ahem-â He shook himself out of thoughts, all silly and impossible ones, then shrugged and put the list back inside his pocket. âWeâre taking the main street north, that would make it less for us to walk to. A more direct path, if you will.â He started walking, looking to the side to see if Blaine was still there. âThat shouldnât be a problem. I always like the pretty recyclable ones they sell there. Maybe thereâs a new fabulous bag waiting for me to purchase it.â He chuckled, then looked both ways before they crossed the street to their destination.
âIâm sure there are. Julie keeps adding more to her collection and I think she fashioning some out of old t-shirts, too so maybe you can find one youâll like.â Blaine followed the route Kurt explained and kept next to his friend, close enough they were liable to bump hips if he had to step to the side to avoid someone. âWe just talked about this but I want to revisit it. The trip to Lima. Should we go in a few weeks? I want to give my parents notice instead of dropping in. They was something about them wanting to fly home to see my grandparents and I want to make sure its not when weâre in town.â Blaine looked at the store fronts they past, which he found adorable. The entirety of this city was jam-packed with people from all walks of life and it fed into how vibrant and energized everything felt. There was another flower shop straight ahead and Blaine remembered, âI need to get new herbs to plant. I cleared space for it in our patio.â

Kurt felt good about Matt being honest with him, and truth be told, it made him feel a lot more at ease about their date, and whatever would happen after that. Taking things easy, and just seeing where it goes on its natural course sounded like a wise thing to do, for both their sakes. He nodded at the kind of gesture of holding the door for him and quickly stepped ahead of him, a small grin curling his lips. âOh, donât you joke with me about that, mister. Iâm very serious about my dessert.â They both stood in the queue to the register, which gave him some time to see the choices in the menu up on the board. âIce cream and cheesecake are an important part of my not so often indulgence. Not too often, or my pear hips would come back with a vengeance.â He chuckled, then moved forward with the line, soon being their turn to make their order. âI think Iâll have⊠chocolate mint and banana chip cone, please.â
This guy kept things fun, thatâs for certain and Matt liked how he spoke his mind and wasnât just catering to whatever it was he needed. There were some dates where it felt as if he were speaking for the both of them and that type of shit annoyed him; because he needed to be around someone who had their own mind and not what they think he wanted just in hopes theyâll land a relationship with him. âHave you heard of Marble Slab or Stone Cold Creamery? They can mix all sorts of shit in your ice cream and, I hope youâre able to contain yourself, they can put cheesecake bites into your ice cream. Best of both worlds.â He winked at him and as soon as it was his turn he asked for a couple scoops of Rocky Road, keeping it simple for the guy behind the counter.Â
âIâm in the same boat. I work out hard to keep in shape but itâs gotten to the point itâs more for work than me. I rather lay around with a beer gut than hitting up the gym after a long ass day on the job.â He chuckled at the way he sounded and smirked to himself. âI sometimes work out with the other guys at the small gym we have there. Thought I should toss that visual in there for you. For free.â He winked and went towards the center of the counter after he paid for their dessert.

Kurt also finished his coffee and wiped his mouth. âWell, if you ever come down to Lima and you want to hang at my place call me. Iâll probably just be there the whole time.â Kurt wasnât about to impose Blaine to come stay at his house or anything, even if he wanted him to, with all his heart. âYes, I donât care much about crowding either. I love my personal space. So letâs go?â He walked ahead of Blaine, not really wanting to be a part of the eyes he and the barista would most likely share as they left, or even if Blaine wanted to stop and say goodbye to his new friend; he walked out the door and put his sunglasses on while he waited for Blaine to join him.Â
âSo, I have the list here of all the things we need. I say we hit the farmers market first, before we get only leftovers from the place.â He chuckled and made a double check to see if he had all his things with him before he started walking.
As they went past the window and glass door, Blaine looked inside with hope but the barista was busy with an order and talking to a couple people who lingered at the register. The number which burned a hole in his wallet should be more than plenty when it came to confidence boosts but he wanted to get at least one wave in. Which didnât happen, at least not when he thought it would because as soon as he was ready to catch up to Kurt the man looked his way and Blaine felt his stomach drop. They waved and Blaine felt ready to continue on with his day.
When he reached Kurt his nose was buried in a list and Blaine looked over his shoulder to read it. âThink the Farmerâs Market is down this street.â He said as he looked up in the direction they came from but diverting his gaze to the left where it lead them closer to the heart of the city. âSo used to driving everywhere.â He laughed because he realized that didnât have anything to do with his sense of direction. âYou know what we forgot to bring? Our bags and that small collapsable cart to keep everything on.â

Kurt looked at him and listened to everything he was saying, feeling that Brian was in need to talk some of that annoyance out, and turns out he was. âoh, donât apologise for that. You should know Iâm a good listener, so you can pour it all out. Iâd be fine with that.â He took a sip of his drink and smiled at him. âSo you wanted to be a teacher at some point? Thatâs amazing. You do have a way of talk that could have kept all the students interested.â He blushed when his flirtation was obvious, and given that he didnât want to be seem like he was a predator of straight men or anything, he simply shrugged, always keeping his distance. âItâs a good shape. I heard you saying youâre divorced, Iâm sorry about that.â
Brian chuckled, the type which sounded genuine more more along the lines it was a hard topic for him to get into. âYeah. Divorced. Itâs a shining moment in my life but,â he gave Kurt a half shoulder shrug. âItâs the reason why I didnât pursue teaching when I wanted and wound up in a job I hate.â He drank more of his beer and stared ahead, diverting his eyes from his reflection; thankful the liquor bottles obstructed it. âNancy, my ex wife. Sheâs one of those women who falls into the controlling side of the spectrum. Itâs my fault, really. Sheâs an attractive woman and I fell for her.â he shook his head and asked for another beer. âItâs in the past now and she and I hardly speak. Iâm at this job because it was the only one hiring and I had office experience from the one I worked in before I moved to this city.â Wow. He did not expect to unload onto Kurt and Brian realized what heâd done. âShoot. Iâm sorry. That was a lot more than you asked for.â He did say he could pour it out but it didnât stop Brian from apologizing.

Kurt looked back at him and smiled, feeling a bit relieved. âI can promise itâs not you, Matt. Youâre amazing really, and fun to be with. And that 80âČs songs love you just proclaimed there definitely earned several plus points, you know?â He winked at him playfully and chuckled. âI guess this falls into the common âitâs not you, itâs meâ category, in the sense that- Well, itâs been so long since I last went out with someone, I suppose thatâs what makes me nervous. Nervous of maybe doing or saying the wrong thing that would finally scare you off.â He chuckled nervously and shook his head. âAnd you shouldnât give me that much freedom of speech, you know? I tend to babble a lot more than what you just witnessed.â
They drove into the still present night traffic, New York being a city where rarely was there a time when there wasnât some sort of mild traffic around somewhere, but to Kurt it all felt familiar, even the flickering lights of windows and cars that went past his window. It wasnât long before they were parking outside the ice cream shop, and he quickly got out of the car and walked up to Matt so they could go in together. âWell? Time to get our sweet tooth on. Letâs go.â He smiled at him and gently took him by the arm, both men now walking to the shopâs main entrance.
With the way Kurt talked it reminded him a lot of when he wasnât sure if he wanted things with someone to be serious or casual. The man opted for casual more than anything because it was easier. Hell, the last relationship he had was with someone he thought he was gonna marry but that went South after some terrible shit happened. âI think I like giving you that freedom. Keeps me in the know with what youâre thinking. And hey, no worries. Okay? Weâre two guys on a date and getting to know each other. Weâre not eloping at the end of this and weâve got plenty of time to see where any of this leads.â He spoke with sincere honesty and gave Kurt a playful wink before they set off to their destination.
Parking, as usual, as a bitch in this city and after a couple go arounds someone pulled from a spot in front of where they wanted to be. Sheer stroke of luck, of course, but he took it without question. After the car was parked he waited for Kurt and let the guy lead him in. âBet youâve been looking forward to this the second I mentioned ice cream was on the agenda.â He grinned, joking with him as he held the door open with one hand for Kurt to go through first.

Barry chuckled and nodded. âWalking also sounds good. Itâs a good plan to enjoy the nice wether while we still have it, huh?â He too kept the paper with her number written on inside his jeans pocket, then tilted his head as he looked at her. âYou mean as in âall you can eat in one minuteâ type of competitive? Because thatâd be a no.â He chuckled. âI just mention it because Iâm too skinny for people to actually believe that I like to eat a lot. Pizza first, as you can see right now, and also sweets. Iâm a sucker for all things to do with bakery, and thereâs this little pastry shop I know, I always drool whenever I walk past it, not ashamed to admit it.â Their food arrived to the table soon after and they didnât wait any longer before they were eating their pizza.
It was hard to not get lost in what Barry said and Marley couldnât exactly pinpoint if it was the words or his voice or how he smiled or.....what. But she didnât interrupt him, not even when they got their food and both went for their first bites. She hadnât eaten pizza in awhile, not prepared by someone other than her own two hands, and she sat back and quietly sighed. It was so good and cheesy and she wanted to savor every second she could with it. It sucked not having a whole lot in the way of spending money; which made ramen and pop tarts, along with the occasional latte, her main source of sustenance.Â
âYou like all the same things I do. Bakeries are the worse because you can get a little bit of everything there. My weakness is cake. You have a cake with buttercream frosting and Iâll struggle to not run my finger across it just to get a nice sample of it.â She said as soon as her pizza bite went down, smiling at him. âIs there a food you donât like?â

It was a normal ocurrence to anyone to have your phone dying on you at the least oportune time, so he knew what Marley meant as he watched her tapping her phone to see if it had some battery left in it. âYeah, I can put your number in my phone, but Iâll also do this-â he said, reaching inside his bag and pulling a small notepad and a pencil. âIâve learn not to trust fully on tecnology latelyâ he said with a chuckle, then quickly wrote his number down down and handed it to her. âNow, you give me yours.â He slid the notepad over the table towards Marley, then smiled. âItâs about three or four blocks away from campus. We could always take a cab, you know? Or the subway, both things work. But anyway, youâll love it, Marley! Plus, any place that serves food is a winner in my book.â He blushed and chuckled. âI know it doesnât show, but I like to eat. A lot!â
âI think the last time I gave someone my number on paper was when I was in middle school.â She said as he went to take his pen and wrote hers out; handwriting neat because she didnât want him to have a hard time reading it and she didnât want him to think she was sloppy because of bad penmanship. After Marley set the pen down she took his number and folded it slowly. Neatly and slipped it inside the pocket of her bag which hung on the back of the chair.
She thought of the best way to get there and thought to offer, âOr we can walk? The weather isnât too bad yet and I think itâll be good to,â Not spend money came to mind because she didnât have a whole lot of it to spend, âget the exercise and we can talk easier that way, too.â The last thing he said came as a surprise because he really didnât show it. At all. âHow much is a lot? Are you a competitive eater?â Why did she ask that last one?

It didnât surprise Kurt when Brian said that his work day had sucked, something that the man clearly foresaw when they met earlier that afternoon, at the time Kurt dropped him by his office; he chuckled, then took a sip of his drink before he spoke. âTrust me⊠I know what is like to do what you have to do for your paycheck, especially when youâre swimming in debts and bills that never seem to end. I mean, I love my job, in my case, but it can be so life-consuming at times, itâs not even funny.â He leaned forward on the counter, his elbows resting on it as he looked at the man with a soft smile on his face. âOh, I donât go anywhere. I prefer doing my workout routines in the privacy of my own apartment. Iâve never been big fan of standing in a place where everyone sweats at the same time. Do I sound too picky?â He scrunched his nose at him and giggled, then looked away to where his glass was. âI donât think you need that much of a workout, Brian. Just sayingâŠâ
âIâm glad to know Iâm not the only one to have crappy days.â He said, half done with his drink and about to order another. âI need a new job. If this one didnât pay as well as it does I wouldnât bother with showing up. But this divorce left me with nothing and Iâm starting from zero.â Brian didnât mean to unload so much to someone he hardly knew and he stared at his half empty glass, or half full depending if he wanted to be optimistic about it. But he didnât. âYouâre lucky to love your job. I think the only job I want requires me to left this one and find a school whoâs hiring a Western Civilization professor.â He was chatty and Brian smacked his lips and nodded. âI donât get a chance to talk to a lot of people during the day. The words are practically spilling out of me.â Brian didnât anticipate a compliment and it prompted him to grin but he was shy about it at the same time, which was comical coming from him. âThanks. I do try to keep in some type of decent shape. And you donât sound picky. People can be disgusting at the gym.â

Kurt blinked as he looked up at Blaine, his cheeks tainting with a soft shade of pink when he said he would love to see more of him than he usually did; there was a soft tickle in the back of his stomach at the thought that it was actually something that Blaine wanted, even if he meant it just in a friendly manner, brought on by the fact they hardly saw much of each other with both of their crazy schedules. He chuckled when Blaine mentioned Sam and nodded, their friend always making a point of letting everyone know what happened at McKinley on a daily basis, then he shrugged and leaned back while eating the last couple of bites of his croissant, and after he was done he spoke again. âIâm not sure who could be there still, so Iâm not sure either who I can be bragging to.â He chuckled, then shook his head. âI think Iâll just stick to stay with my dad, and most likely having to endure my Uncle Andyâs visit, and interrogation about me still being gay.âÂ
He rolled his eyes, then sighed and finished what was left of his coffee. âMaybe if thereâs a reunion one day we could definitely go together. I mean⊠I wouldnât want you to be bored to death if you came with me this summer, only to hang around at the Hummels place.â He shrugged. âThough thereâs also the lake we could go to- Just saying..â He wiped his mouth with his napkin after he was finished, then looked at Blaine and smiled softly. âWell, ready to get on with our morning? A lot to see and buy and do before lunch, Mr. Anderson!â
Blaine had to step in and say, âI disagree. I wouldnât be bored if I spent time with you and your family. Itâs great to have one I can be around when I need a break from my own. My dad is a lot like your Uncle Andy, except heâll just distance himself as if he was still mourning the loss of a son.â Blaine thought after all these years, after his dad tried to find a way to make him straight that he would accept him. He was blood after all, but it was still icy when it came to his dad and his mom, the wonderful woman that she is, could only do so much to keep it that they werenât complete strangers to each other. Blaine knew he needed to go home and visit when they went to Lima, so that wasnât exactly the top of his to do list.
Blaine finished his green tea latte while Kurt ate and he wiped his mouth with a napkin, amused by the light green tint left behind from the drink. âReady.â He told his roommate as he got to his feet and stashed the balled up napkin on Kurtâs plate. âI think we missed a big chunk of the crowd so it shouldnât be too packed.â He waited for Kurt to join him. âAs much as I love this city, there are so many people everywhere. It does make me miss home but only because I donât like to feel Iâm crammed.â

Kurt walked ahead of Matt as the elevator doos opened, then waited for him so he could lead him to where his car was. âA hybrid between Chandler and Joey? That sounds like a fun combination. Me, Iâm definitely one of Monica and Rachel, with the OCD of one, and the love for fashion of the other.â He chuckled and winked at him playfully, then nodded. âSpace Jam.. Wow, thatâs some trip to the past. I must confess I havenât seen that movie, or that show you speak of. Iâm intrigued now, so theyâre definitely going onto the list.â He waited until Matt opened his door and thanked him softly before he got inside and put his seatbelt on.Â
After the other got inside the car himself Kurt turned to look at him and smiled. âIâd say that the DVR saved the sanity of us who have crazy work hours and donât have time to watch too much TV, but then again, thereâs also Netflix.â He chuckled and looked down, then to the front of the car. âAm I speaking too much? I often do that when Iâm a bit nervous, this sort of verbal tsunami comes out of me, heh⊠Sorry. When we get our ice cream I promise itâll calm down.â
When they were in the car and Matt on the ready to pull out of the spot he hadnât even noticed there was a shred of nervousness from Kurt and he sat back, hand on the keys as he hadnât turned them yet. âYouâre nervous? I never picked up on it.â This wasnât a joke, just an honest observation. Or lack there of. âWhat are you nervous about? If itâs me then let me stop you right there and say Iâm just a normal guy who watches way too many episodes of The Office to be considered healthy and sing bad 80s songs when Iâm showering.â He hoped that would help Kurt with whatever he was feeling because Matt liked people to feel relaxed in his presence.Â
âAnd the opposite better happen. I donât want you to clam up while weâre getting our rocky road on.â He winked at Kurt and went to turn the keys, cranking his car back to life and setting course to their next destination down the way from the restaurant.Â

Barry took another long sip of his iced tea, then nodded. âI think thatâs a great idea. After Iâm done with finals too I can actually be like a normal person, and that would definitely work better if we want to have a nice hangout.â He smiled back at her when he saw her smiling, his cheeks feeling a bit warm when he caught the way Marley was looking at him. âUm⊠I know this one place where we could sing karaoke, and also eat the most awesome fajitas, so itâs a win-win scenario, what you think?â He shrugged, blushing a bit more. âI could give you my phone number, or you could give me yours, so when weâre done with finals and stuff we can go out againâŠâ
âI will like that.â She said as she reached for her phone and went to bring up her text screen but it wouldnât turn on. âOh.â She started as she tapped at the button on her phone and the hated dead battery picture flashed across the screen. âCrap. My phoneâs dead. The charge doesnât last long with this phone.â she admitted and looked to Barry, face evidently pink from embarrassment. âI can tell you what my number.â She offered as she tried to play off that fact the phone she owned was at good four years old and been on itâs last leg for a long time. And, to get the attention away from her phone situation she asked, âIâve never been to a karaoke place which also serves actual food. Where is it?â She leaned forward, but just enough to show she was interested in their conversation; still in awe this cute boy wanted to do anything with her.
