Anthony Bourdain (sexiest thing you can do on a date)...
“...you learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together. If your date makes the experience uptight and restrictive, well, the sex is going to be horrible too. ...I don't have much patience for people who are self-conscious about the act of eating, and it irritates me when someone denies themselves the pleasure of a bloody hunk of steak or a pungent French cheese because of some outdated nonsense about what's appropriate or attractive. Stop worrying about how your breath's going to smell, whether there's beurre blanc on your face, or whether ordering the braised pork belly will make you look fat. Eating with abandon couldn't be more of a turn-on: it shows that you're comfortable with yourself.
A perfect date is with a person who eats without fear, prejudice, or concerns about his or her appearance. I remember one of my first dates with my wife (Ottavia): She ordered a six-pound lobster. I sat there, enraptured, watching her suck every bit of meat from it—she got a standing ovation from the floor staff. She's the kind of woman who will order filet mignon as an appetizer followed by a T-bone steak. Her fearless, open-minded approach to food is completely alluring. For a dinner date, I eat light all day to save room, then I go all in: I choose this meal and this order, and I choose you, the person across from me, to share it with. There's a beautiful intimacy in a meal like that. It's about exploration and taste. And kissing after dinner. And maybe there's a little wine and curry on your breath... and that's nice.”

i think it’s important to get deeply emotionally unironically involved in a bad piece of media whilst fully aware that it objectively sucks ass. like for your health or whatever

hi!! i read a book over a decade ago from the library and have never been able to find it again. it was an older book set in (iirc) San Francisco about a group of lesbians renovating and flipping a house in a predominantly black neighborhood. i think that the main character was butch and she and the femme love interest went to a BDSM/leather club at some point in the book. if you have any leads i would be eternally grateful!!
Sorry, but if it was over a decade ago the chances I'll know it are just about nonexistent! Anyone else?

its like. needy spent her whole life attached to jennifer in the way that so many girls are the shadows of their charismatic best friends. they come in a set but you know you only ordered one of them. needy's identity has never been separate from jennifer's and she's never felt like it needs to be until the night at the carousel; needy knows what jennifer's normal venomous meanness is like and this is not it. no one else can see that this is not jennifer because no one else has spent their whole life subconsciously defining themselves in relation to her. by the time prom hits she's separated herself from jennifer— there's no illusion of their desires being aligned anymore— but she's still defined by that relationship. her only goal is to help jennifer, to save jennifer, and when it becomes clear that won't happen, to kill jennifer. and when she finally does, she frees herself from jenniferandneedy: she's her own entire person and jennifer is the empty shell lying next to her. but jennifer is empty because something of her has seeped into needy. in killing jennifer, needy cements the fact that every choice she makes and consequence she faces will be about jennifer; she'll go to jail for jennifer and she'll kill low shoulder for jennifer and even if she seems to be moving through the world alone she carries jennifer with her— she's finally become her own person but she's also more deeply entangled in jennifer than she ever was before. if you're bitten by a demon and you live you just might absorb some of the demon's abilities. you might get lucky for once in your miserable life.

Dr. Katherine (Kay) Fowler-Billings was an American naturalist and geologist. She is commonly known for being one of the earliest female geologists. In 1926 she dressed as a man to join a geologic expedition. She mapped >500 square miles of the Laramie Mountains alone in 2 Summers. She fundamentally changed our understanding of the Rockies.
She did not know how to use that gun.

In honor of Day of the Dead, here’s a repost of my comic about the San Francisco Columbarium and the man who spent 26 years restoring it.
This comic originally appeared on Medium at The Nib. Go check out my other work there.

shout out to the hot girl in my playwriting class who responds with “yeah, but that’s derivative of neon genesis evangelion” every time somebody brings up some artsy film i’ve never heard of and they immediately shut up and can’t argue without admitting they’ve seen nge. us regular-looking people could never get away with that. THAT’S what we mean when we say “use your privilege for good”
