1. 2 First acquaintances
"The waves beat monotonously on the shore, bringing the spray to my body. I stood there, my eyes fixed on the morning sky. A light, cool wind was blowing, which, swaying the branches of bushes and trees, broke the silence of the peaceful morning. I walk slowly towards the sea. Clean sand through your fingers, velvety, not sizzling hot morning sun gently kisses your skin, seagulls fly in the sky, and the water is just incredible. It seems that there can be no such water on earth, so unreal is its azure color and its purity, cool, pleasant, it refreshes and gives strength. But suddenly everything is interrupted. A dark cloud moved swiftly and aggressively over the horizon. Firmly imprisoned, just as the sun rose in its dungeon. For a moment, everything was quiet, but only for a moment. As if catching himself, a sharp cold wind blew out and raised black waves on the sea. I closed my eyes and everything went quiet. Opening them, I found myself in the middle of a solid cloud, so dense that it is almost impossible to distinguish anything at arm's length. Looking around, I felt a sudden surge of fear and anxiety. I didn't know where I was or what was going on. A blinding bolt of lightning cut through the sky. And then, sharp and frightening as a gunshot, the thunder rumbled. And through the thick cloud, I saw a man dressed in a black robe with a hood. A black haze drifted out from under the hem of his robe. And then, this strange stranger took off his hood, and I saw something that made my hair stand on end and my body shiver. He smiled so frighteningly that I squeezed my eyes shut and heard a scream, loud, piercing, cutting my ears, and only after a couple of seconds did I realize that it was my scream»
"Maddie!"I heard, and suddenly opened my eyes abruptly."Maddie!" another scream. Looking around, I fixed my gaze on my mother, who was looking at me excitedly.
"It was a dream," I whispered softly."Just a dream,— she repeated.
My hands were shaking, and my head was buzzing. I didn't understand what had happened. I'd never had such dreams before, and it was frightening. Taking a deep breath, I looked up at my mom and smiled.
"Maddie, are you okay?" I heard a scream and immediately came running. Did you have a nightmare?
— It's okay, it's just a nightmare... " she whispered just as softly.— I need to wash up." I'm going to Hogwarts today!- cheerfully shouted and, cheerfully stretching, jumped out of bed, kissed my mother on the cheek and ran to the bathroom.
After all the water treatments, I smiled confidently at my reflection and returned to the room. My hands were still shaking, but not from the nightmare, but from the excitement of such a long-awaited trip. When I was dressed, I went down to the kitchen. My mother was already working hard at the stove, and my father was sitting at the table, reading the newspaper.
"Good morning, Dad!" I shouted, and he, not expecting such an abrupt appearance, spilled the cup of coffee he was holding in his other hand on himself. Covering her mouth with her hand, Maddie ran to her father and kissed him on the cheek.
"Madeline Mortimer, I love you dearly, but I'll never forgive you for ruining your shirt!" Dad shouted and glared at me.
"Well, Dad. I didn't mean to, but you're already old, so you're scared, " Madeline said and sat down at the table.
My father stood up without answering, snapped his fingers at my nose, and retreated from the kitchen.
After a while…
After a delicious breakfast and another grumble from Fergus Mortimer, we all packed up and set off.
King's Cross Station was as crowded as ever. Here is a woman yelling at a man for pushing her, causing all her things to lie on the asphalt, here is a little boy with a balloon in his hands pulling his mother's sleeve to get them closer to the train, and here are people who rush to work, constantly bumping into others. I, however, was absorbed in the bustle of the train station, and did not notice that we had already reached the entrance to Platform 9a. In order to get to the station itself, you must pass through the barrier separating platforms 9 and 10.
As the Mortimer family moved closer to the pillar, Maddie suddenly stopped and stared at the brick wall. My breath caught in my throat, and for a moment I had a moment of doubt. Fridesvida, seeing her daughter stop, looked at her with the most tender and kind eyes. She walked over to it and squatted down.
"Baby, what is it?" Mom whispered.
"I— I don't know," Maddie stammered. — I'm scared." I thought I'd be happy to go to Hogwarts, but right now...I doubt I can handle everything.
— My girl-Mrs. Mortimer hugged her daughter with all her love and smiled— I was scared too…This is normal…Just think good thoughts.… You are the kindest and most gorgeous sorceress in the world…You don't have to be afraid, do you believe me? — What is it? " she asked, pulling away from me.
"Yes...phew."..Something I fell apart — I answered and, taking my mother's hand, went to the cart. And so, the most beautiful feeling when you pass through the barrier and get to the platform 9¾. It was as crowded as King's Cross, but it was different, with an air of magic that Maddie had only ever felt in Diagon Alley.
As I got closer, I could have cried with happiness. The Hogwarts Express stood in all its glory, receiving students and teachers of the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry into its cars. Suddenly, someone stood in front of us. Looking up, I met the blue eyes of a man. He was a man with a strange mustache and a neatly groomed beard. He was dressed in a red uniform and looked like one of the Royal Guard of Great Britain, guarding the king and queen. I was so engrossed in looking at the man's uniform that I didn't notice at all when he took my cart and took it to the side of the baggage car.
We stopped at the door. My mother gave the ticket to the conductor and came back to me.
"It's time ..." she said, and smiled— " I'm so sorry Dad couldn't walk you out." Don't take offense at him, he works all the time.
I love my dad, but I was really offended by the fact that he didn't go to see off his only daughter.
- Nothing...I understand-smiled in response. — Will you write to me?" Maddie asked.
— Of course, dear-my mother hugged me very tightly and kissed me on the forehead.
The time is 10: 55, which means that the train will leave soon. Taking a deep breath, I climbed the small steps and entered the train. Turning to the doorway, she gave her mother one last look, waved, and continued down the train corridor.
- Good luck! Mom shouted.
***
The train was quite noisy, with prospective freshmen like me looking at the inside of the car, and the upperclassmen grumbling and trying to break through.
Madeline walked down the corridor, looking around, completely oblivious to the boy in front of her, causing the collision to occur. There was some swearing, and I rubbed my hand over my nose and checked it for a fracture — I'd hit it too hard. Focusing my eyes, I saw a boy who was slightly taller than me, with platinum hair, a thin nose and a line of lips, a haughty look and a straight posture.

"Watch where you're going," he growled, and glared at her. - Do the eyes grow on the back of your head? But don't answer it, it's obvious that you are, " he added.
"I— I-I'm sorry," Maddie whispered, staring at the toe of her shoe.
I didn't like hearing that about myself. Sometimes my inattention and absent-mindedness do not lead to good things. So now I stand and stare at the floor while this aristocrat says something else to me.
"Are you deaf?" - I heard, after a moment of stupor. "The brainless sorceress! He spat, and gave me another haughty look.
Madeline couldn't stand it anymore and ran forward, unable to see anything in front of her because of her tears. And how ashamed she was of being so clumsy, because the next second there was a second collision. "You can put a monument to me. For the second time in a day."
"I...God…I'm sorry, " Maddie began to mumble, gathering up the things that had fallen out of the hands of the person she'd bumped into.
— It hurt, but it's all right— " the red-haired boy said, rubbing his bruised forehead.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry again," Madeline said over and over again.
The boy was the same height as me. He looked rather ridiculous. The sweater was blue, tucked into brown trousers, but in some places it came out of them. Her hair was disheveled, and there were crumbs on her lips, most likely from a recent breakfast.
- It's okay, I'm Ron, by the way — he introduced himself and held out his hand to shake.
— I'm Madeline, but to my friends, I'm just Maddie — " I said, and smiled.
"Nice to meet you, Maddie," Ron said with the same smile. Are you hurt?""what is it?" the boy asked.
"I'm fine," Maddie said quickly, and looked down again.
The whole situation seemed insanely ridiculous and awkward. I literally wanted to sink through the ground and I kept myself in hand, just not to cry in front of a new acquaintance.
— Have you found a place yet?" — he asked and, having received from me a short "no", continued-Can we find it together?
I nodded, and we headed down the corridor, and after a while, we came across a car with a boy sitting in one compartment.
Ron glanced at each other, opened the door, and said something to the boy, then he looked out at me and motioned for me to go inside with him. Shyly, I entered the compartment and carefully sat down on a small semblance of a sofa.
"I'm Ron." Ron Weasley-the red-haired man began the introduction.
"I'm Harry." Harry Potter, the young man said cheerfully.
"And this is Madeline," Ron pointed at me, and I had to look at them. Across from me sat a brown-haired man with emerald-colored eyes and pleasant features, wearing a blue plaid shirt, under which was a black T-shirt, beige pants and modest shoes.
"Nice to meet you," said Harry, and caught Ron's surprised look.
- Wait, wait, wait...Harry…Potter? So it's you? Ron exclaimed. — Is it true that you have a...well...scar on your forehead?"
Madeline's eyes widened in thought. "It's Harry Potter! God, I've heard and read so much about him. Amazing!»
"Ah...yes," said Harry, and pushed his bangs back from his forehead, revealing his famous mark.
"Oh, the devil! Ron croaked in surprise.
I, on the other hand, sat and stared at Harry the whole time. It was awkward for me, but at the same time it was nice to ride in the same car with him. He - The-Boy-Who-Lived! It's just unbelievable!
After half an hour of dating, Maddie, Ron, and Harry started talking about everything. The heavy atmosphere disappeared and the air was filled with different smells of sweets that the guys bought from a nice woman with a cart filled with all sorts of goodies.
The train stopped when it was dark outside. The boys, like all the other students, got off the train. Of course, the freshmen immediately began to examine everything they saw and groan. Maddie, along with the boys, was no exception.
- Freshmen! All to me-a voice sounded and all the guys, as if on a click, turned their eyes in the direction of the sound. It was a real giant! He had a thick, long beard and tangled, luxuriant black hair, and he carried a huge lantern that shone into the faces of the happy and surprised little ones. He looked very big, but it was obvious that he was very good.
"Come here, don't be shy!" The giant exclaimed, and approached us. "Come on, come on, move it."
We were the first to reach him, and he looked at us kindly.
"Hey, Harry!— What is it? " he said suddenly. Ron and I looked at the giant in surprise, and then at Harry, and so on several times.
"Hi, Hagrid," he said. Ron and I both shouted " WOW!»
"All right, everyone follow me to the boats, keep up!" Hagrid exclaimed, and led us in the direction of the great lake.
We got into the old-looking boats and sailed ahead. It was dark, but in the distance you could see the lights burning in the castle walls. Holding her breath, Madeline stared at the greatest building in the entire wizarding world and couldn't believe that she would soon be studying there. Those doubts before being sent here vanished, and that strange dream was forgotten in an instant. But such an incredible atmosphere was interrupted by a loud voice.
— Did you know that Hogwarts is the oldest school of magic?" The girl sitting next to us piped up. — I'm Hermione Granger, and what's your name?"
— I'm Ron Weasley-began Ron— This is Harry Potter and Madeline, who still hasn't said her last name — Ron grumbled with displeasure. Hermione apparently didn't hear anything else, as she stared at Harry, seemingly not even blinking.
"Are you Harry Potter?" Very nice to meet you, " the girl suddenly exclaimed and shook Harry's hand. "Nice to meet you, too —" she added.
"Us, too," Maddie snorted, and turned away from her.
The rest of the way, we spent in silence, except for the occasional sound of surprise from Ron, and Hermione doing nothing but clucking at him.

1.1 The beginning of the path
August 31, 1991.
The rain is always the same, it doesn't change, but we look at it differently. Autumn rain brings sadness and reflection, winter rain brings slush and swell, spring rain brings joy and thunder, inspiring reverence, summer rain often brings coolness and pulls you out of a hot day into a completely different space.
The young sorceress loved rain at any time of the year. He creates for her an incredible atmosphere of lightness and alienation, which is so often needed by every person.
How relaxing it is to watch the drops rolling down the window, people who have fallen under the "natural" shower, or just sit on the windowsill, plunging into their fairy-tale world, in which there is no evil, but harmony and good reigns.
- Maddie, honey… Come down quickly, " a melodious female voice called from the first floor of the house.
Just as the girl was about to answer, a loud thunder suddenly thundered, causing her to squeak in surprise and jump to the side.
"I'm coming, Mom!"  Madeline shouted, and after another glance at the window, she hurried out of the room.
When she went downstairs, she saw a rather interesting picture: her mother was trying to insert candles with the inscription "Congratulations!" into the cake, and her father was licking the cream around the edges and smearing it on his wife's nose.
***
Fergus and Fridesvida Mortimer are the best parents in the world, and they are also talented wizards. They met while still students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, despite the fact that they studied at different faculties. Father-Slytherin, and mother-Ravenclaw. According to my mother, my father always bullied her, but not because he didn't like her, but on the contrary, in this way he wanted to attract attention. Dad's parents-Richard Mortimer and Adeline-Fryderika Mortimer-never liked their daughter-in-law, and when they had a daughter, and the father decided to leave the family estate, they stopped having any relations with him.
***
Pausing at the doorway, Maddie giggled softly, drawing her parents ' attention.
"My dear! You took so long to get down. We've already thought of sending Crocus after you!  Mom chirped, clapping her hands.
Fridesvida Mortimer is the most beautiful woman in the world. Despite her age, she looks like a young girl who has just begun to blossom. Her light brown, soft and silky hair was the envy of any woman, and her eyes were ... blue… With small flecks of emerald, they drive anyone nearby crazy.
Fergus Mortimer — a man with a stately figure, regular features and aristocratic appearance. His jet-black hair was always beautifully coiffed, his small moustache added charm to his face, and his green eyes, which stood out vividly against the background of his figure, aroused admiration and a certain envy. He was always the best-looking boy at school, and after that he remains a favorite for gossip among the ladies.
Madeline Mortimer is a mix of her parents. Genetics decided to play with her, and therefore the different eye color-blue and green is the highlight of the younger member of the family. Her shoulder-length black curly hair, upturned nose, and plump cheeks made her truly beautiful, incredible, and sweet.
- Today is a beautiful weather, I was looking at it ... - I answered and went closer to the table. On it were all sorts of goodies: cupcakes, rolls, fruit and my favorite sweets, and most importantly-a chocolate cake, with various swirls and zigzags, leaves and twigs.
— I still don't see how you can enjoy this nasty weather." Who would have thought that you like rain and dampness!  My mother shouted, and put her hand on her forehead with an exaggerated sigh.
"Well, ma-am..." the curly — haired one drawled. — We've already discussed this. Before I could continue, there was another thunderclap, and I dropped the candy from my mouth in surprise.
Rain was rain, and loud noises always frightened little Mortimer. Sometimes, even after the pencil falls, it takes her a minute to recover, what can I say about the thunder.
"Oh-oh-oh... little Maddie is afraid of thunder," Dad drawled, and laughed out loud.
— I'm not afraid of anything!" It was just unexpected!  Madeline shouted, wrinkling her nose and puffing out her cheeks as she sat down at the table.
"Of course, of course, you little coward —" my father squeaked in my voice, and threw a marshmallow in my daughter's direction.
- Dad! Mom! Tell him! - unable to stand it, the youngest of the family threw this very marshmallow at him and, raising her chin, grinned, - It serves you right!
"All right, stop messing around," Mom threatened with a finger and glared at Dad. Fergus raised two hands and continued to laugh.
Madeline is really happy. Their family has always been friendly. Of course, there are quarrels, but the conflict quickly passes after the pope pretends to grab his heart and pretend to be ill. She'd always wondered why he worked for the Ministry of Magic instead of some theater, a profession that suited him better.
"Baby..." my mother purred, and slowly walked over to my father, putting her hand on his shoulder. - Tomorrow you will enter a new stage of your life… And my father and I would like to have a little celebration, because you are already so big.  Mom wiped away an imaginary tear and smiled. - Hogwarts is a great place where great people have studied and are studying, and I hope you will become one of them… We raised you right.
***
Maddie turned eleven in May. She was very much looking forward to this day, because, like all other children, the letter from Hogwarts must be delivered on time. For a very long time, the girl sat near the front door and looked through the mail hole. And so, at exactly 12: 00, the coveted envelope flew into the Mortimer house, and to a joyful squeak, Madeline ran to her parents ' room. On the same day, the whole family went to Diagon Alley to buy things for the next school year. Of course, she had already walked the streets of Diagon Alley, and each time she did not want to leave there. These old bookstores, the famous Ollivander wand shop, the Gringotts Bank, and the robed wizards all fueled the fire of the desire to go to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
And she was also worried about the question: "What faculty will they determine?". Slytherin ... Gryffindor ... Hufflepuff ... Ravenclaw ... it's so hard to choose one thing, because each department is good in its own way. After numerous attempts to weigh all the pros and cons, the young sorceress could not come to a single decision. Even talking to her father didn't help her make such a difficult and responsible decision.
"Honey, I understand that this is a difficult choice that can really change your future life. The entire Mortimer family studied and graduated from Slytherin, and I'd like you to be there, too. But we are different, and if you don't want to be in this department, the Sorting Hat will take your wish into account.»

After this conversation, it became even harder, but curly was sure that tomorrow everything would be fine, and she would make the right choice.
"Maddie?" Where are you hovering? "Honey, I think she's gone to Hogwarts ahead of time," my father snapped in front of me.…
- What?  Madeline woke up. - Dad! I didn't go anywhere, I was just thinking.  I muttered back and hurriedly started eating my birthday cake.
***
After a while, when the cake was finished and the plates were cleared away, Madeline went up to her room and began to look carefully at her room. It was medium in size: yellow wallpaper with a simple pattern made the room visually larger, to the right of the door was a small desk, on which were scattered notebooks and some other accessories. A large black bookcase that didn't fit into the room at all, a gray little sofa that the girl had chosen herself and kept with it even after moving in, and a small bed that was so soft that Maddie often couldn't get up.
The girl went to the desk where the wand was lying.
"The Magic Wand… The real... my ... " - thought the girl. She still couldn't believe that in just a few hours she would be going to the school of her dreams. Maddie made a promise that she would learn best and please her parents. She really wanted to be a Great Sorceress.
After twirling her wand and looking at it from all sides, her gaze darted to Katie, the owl that had been bought for her in Diagon Alley. She was so small, with a brownish-white coloring and big golden eyes. Madeline had always had a special connection with animals, even though she had never had a pet before Katie.
Smiling at the owl, the girl placed her wand on the table and began to prepare for bed.
"Honey?" "What's that?" came a voice from the other side of the door, and the next second my mother's head popped out."May I?" — what is it? " she asked, to which she received a nod from her daughter. She crept into the room, and Maddie smiled. She didn't have any makeup on now, she looked so homely, but that didn't stop her from being beautiful. Sitting carefully on the edge of the bed, Frideswida leaned over and kissed her daughter on the forehead, still smiling. In her heart, she was happy for her, because Medeline reminded her so much of her childhood, when she also opened her cherished letter with a sinking heart and waited for her departure for school.
- My dad and I are so proud of you... know that no matter what choice you make on the distribution, we love you and will always support you!  Mom whispered.
— I know… It's just that I'm scared — " the sorceress replied, and felt tears begin to gather in the corner of her eyes. She was really scared of the distribution. She couldn't stop thinking about it.
- Honey… Don't worry... " her mother hugged her daughter, and the girl felt a soothing warmth. Pulling away, she placed her hands on Madeline's cheeks and looked into her eyes. - Listen to your heart… You've always been a responsible and serious girl, so I understand you. Trust your sixth sense and you won't make a mistake — " she said, and with another hug, she quietly left the room, saying good night.
"Thank you," Maddie whispered, and a few minutes later she was lost in the realm of Morpheus, looking forward to tomorrow.
