“I’ll be back real soon.” You gave Daryl a hopeful look, trying to read his face but no luck.
“Come back, a’right?” Daryl’s eyes were serious, as he tilted his head looking you in the eyes. He still gave you butterflies, but you both had gone down that road before and it didn’t work, but it didn’t stop you from wishing that he would kiss you, or hold you close, just like he used to.
“Be good little asskicker.” You chuckled as Rick rolled his eyes, giving you a smile.
“We‘ll see you all real soon.” You nodded to your dad, sisters, Carol and Carl.
You took your bag and got in the car with Glenn. You felt on edge but you couldn’t quite figure out why, it was just a supply run. You had done loads so far, what was different about this one?
Glenn started the truck as you put your seatbelt on.
“Really?” Glenn teased, looking down at your seatbelt.
“Hey, the world may have ended but seatbelts save lives.” You chuckled shrugging your shoulders as Glenn put on his seatbelt.
It wasn’t long before you both came across a grocery store, it looked just like the others, abandoned and eerie. You only knew it was a grocery store because of the sign hanging from the wall. You got out of the truck and picked up your bag.
“Ok, I’ll get the formula.” Glenn nodded, relieved that you were getting it. He went in first but stopped when he didn’t hear you behind him. He turned to see you looking at a shopping basket.
“Remember when we used these?” You half laughed, the bittersweet memories entering your head.
Glenn nodded and took one.
“Come on shopping time.” He gave you a friendly smile, you could tell that he was trying to keep you upbeat. You gave him a little nod as you both entered the building.
Glenn opened the back doors on the truck and was getting ready to put the shopping baskets in when he heard a familiar voice. Glenn silently wished that you would stay in the store but alas you walked out, completely oblivious to who Glenn considered, a threat.
“Y/n, we got company!” You took out your gun immediately and pointed it at the man in front of the two of you.
“Glenn? Long time no see brother.” The man bent down, putting his gun on the ground.
“Merle?” Glenn stuttered, he looked like he had seen a ghost.
“Who’s this pretty thing?” Merle looked at you and smirked.
“Merle, we don’t want any trouble.” Glenn said slowly, not taking his eyes off of the man.
“Where’s my baby brother?” The man questioned.
“He’s alive.” Glenn said, his voice soft but assertive.
“Take me to him.” Merle ordered as you and Glenn kept your guns aimed at him.
“You have to trust us.” Glenn started.
“Hah after leaving me on the roof!” Merle shouted.
“We came back, we all did. You need to trust us. You wait here, and I’ll tell Daryl where you are.”
“I don’t like that idea.” Merle moved fast, he pulled out a gun from his back pocket and ordered you both to get in the truck.
“Y/n get in!” Glenn shouted as he heard a thud. Merle lunged at you and had you on the ground, a gun to your chin.
“Now we goin to go for a little ride.” Glenn nodded nervously as he got in the drivers seat.
It all happened so fast, suddenly you were in a dark room, almost like a storage crate and Glenn was nowhere to be seen. You tried to rip the duct tape, restraining your wrists but it was no use. It was then you heard Glenn's shouts. You felt a cold chill run down your spine. You heard another shout from Glenn, and Merle yelling. They were in the room beside you. You heard thumping and more yelling and soon snarling. You started crying.
What if Glenn was bitten? What would you tell your sister?
You sat in the dark cold room for what seemed like forever until you heard the lock on the door click, as the door opened slowly. A tall man came walking into the room. He took out a knife and ran it along the table not breaking eye contact. You feared the worst. He was behind you now. You were surprised but cautious, when you felt the grip around your wrists loosen, he had cut the duct tape.
He sat in the chair opposite you and started speaking.
“Look we can bring you both back to your group now, and explain that it was all a misunderstanding. I just need to know where your camp is.” You didn’t trust him.
“I want to see Glenn.” You demanded, your voice low.
“Well unfortunately I can’t allow that sweetheart.” He gave you a smile as he reached his hand out to your face. You pulled back from him, before he could touch you.
“I’m not talking until I see Glenn.” You leaned back in the chair crossing your arms in front of your chest.
“That’s a pity, let’s try this another way. Stand up.” The man demanded.
You shook your head as he leaned in towards you, lowering his voice.
“Or I will bring in Glenn’s hand.” You nodded your head slowly as you got on your feet.
“Turn around.” He ordered as you slowly did a little spin.
“Take off your top.” You froze in your tracks, terrified as you processed what he said.
“Guard!” He called out.
“I’m doing it I’m doing it.” You said quickly.
You slowly lifted your tank top off of your body revealing your black bra.
“Go on.” He said. You barely stopped the tears from leaving your eyes as you did what he said, covering your now naked upper half with your hands as your bra fell to the floor.
“Good girl.” He said, his voice filling your body with disgust.
He got up from the chair and walked behind you, lingering for a moment before pushing you down against the table roughly. Your breathing hitched in your chest.
“Where is your group?”
“Go to hell!” You managed to say, you weren’t going to give in to this jerk. You pushed the fear consuming your body away as you thought of the others at the prison. You had to protect them.
He pressed himself against your lower back, as you tried to move away from him. He slowly rolled his lower area against your lower back. You tried to hide the tears welling in your eyes, until he stopped, suddenly.
He took you by the wrist and dragged you to the room next door.
He kicked the door open, and shoved you forward. You were now face to face with Glenn. His face was swollen, and starting to bruise. His lip and above his eyebrow were bleeding. He looked at you with concern and then back at the man, his eyes filled with rage.
“No more games.” The tall man shouted, placing a gun to your head. You didn’t know why you didn’t feel afraid anymore, you just felt disappointed. Was this the way you were destined to leave this earth? After all your effort to survive?
Glenn shook his head softly as you nodded.
Until the man turned the gun on Glenn. You were instantly snapped out of your thoughts. Now you were in charge of someone else’s life. Your heart felt like it was being tugged different ways, you had to keep the baby and your group safe, but Glenn was your best friend and made your sister so happy.
“Prison.” You whispered softly as the man put his gun back on his holster.
“How many?”
“10.” You looked sorrowfully at Glenn, keeping your hands and arms covering your naked upper body as you felt stares from Merle and the guards.
The man caressed your cheek and sniffed your hair, making you feel sick to your stomach.
“There that wasn’t so bad, sweetheart.” He kissed you on the forehead before shoving you towards Glenn. Glenn enveloped you in a hug.
“Are you okay?” He asked worriedly.
“Yeah, yeah.” You muttered giving Glenn a hopeful smile, eager not to have him worried about you.
Glenn quickly took off his shirt and handed it to you gently, as he turned around.
“Thank you.” You muttered, as he gave you a small smile and turned back around.
“I’m sorry I told them it was just-“ You started before Glenn stopped you.
“It’s okay I understand.” He hugged you tightly, doing his best to comfort you.
“The others are going to save us right Glenn?” You cried softly as Glenn hugged you.
“Of course they will.” Glenn did his best to reassure you.
~~~~~~
“Can we trust her?” Daryl asked Rick.
“We have to.” Rick responded not making eye contact.
Sure enough they soon arrived at the walls to Woodbury. They began making a plan to get in when Michonne showed them a weak point on the wall. Rick and Daryl found themselves in a small courtyard, they took cover behind a fence when they heard shouting. Rick looked over the fence carefully to find the source of the noise when he saw 5 or 6 guards leading two people out with hoods over their heads. Rick assumed that had to be Y/n and Glenn.
Daryl and Rick threw a smoke grenade toward the source of the shouting. There was a loud bang as smoke started to engulf the air. The guards released you and Glenn while they began to panic. Rick and Daryl ran into the smoke, grabbing the two hooded prisoners and dragging them around the corner. They quickly removed the hoods as you and Glenn came face to face with Rick and Daryl.
~~~~~~
“Daryl?” You said in disbelief.
“I told ya I would always find ya.” Daryl couldn’t hide the small smile that tugged at his lips.
“In here!“ Rick whisper shouted, as Daryl nodded, half dragging you and Glenn into an empty building.
Rick leaned back against the window, his back to the wall as he looked through a crack in the curtains, keeping watch while they came up with a way out.
“You came.” You looked at Daryl happily, earlier you were sure you wouldn’t see him again.
“Told ya I would always find ya.” Daryl blushed slightly, as he looked at you. Your eyes wandered, exploring Daryl’s face. Observing his icy blue eyes, filled with concern and his soft lips.
“Daryl, kiss me, please.” You blurted out, not thinking about the words that just left your mouth. Daryl looked you in the eyes, his face filled with surprise as he tried to hold back a smile. “Ya sure?” Daryl asked tilting his head. You nodded quickly as Daryl leaned in to you, his hands cupping your face, bringing you both closer to each other and deepening the kiss. Sparks took over your bodies as your cravings for each other began to take control.
You both pulled away slowly, smiling to each other as Glenn coughed awkwardly trying to catch your attention.
“Guys, kinda cold over here.” Daryl and you chuckled as you got up to search for a blanket while Daryl made his way over to Rick.
“I think I have an idea.” Rick whispered as he looked at Daryl and Glenn. “You still have some smoke bombs left right?” Rick asked Daryl as Daryl gave him a nod.
“Perfect.” You came back with a blanket, wrapping it carefully around Glenn’s shoulders.
“On the count of three.” Everyone nodded as Rick began to count down. Daryl threw a smoke bomb as the four of you ran towards Oscar who was hiding nearby. Daryl cursed under his breath as he noticed the guards moving away from the smoke.
“I’ll lay down some cover fire, you guys get over that wall, I’ll follow you.” Daryl insisted. You shook your head as you looked at the men patrolling the area.
“No Daryl…you need to come with us.” You pleaded with Daryl as you looked into his eyes.
“I’ll be right behind ya, Rick please make sure she gets over the wall.” Rick nodded as Daryl started laying down some cover fire.
“See you soon brother.” Rick said as Daryl tried his best to hide a smile. Oscar helped Glenn over the wall just as he got shot in the chest. You cried out as you felt a hand cover your mouth as you were roughly pulled aside. Rick hopped over the wall, thinking that you had gotten over.
You were pulled into the middle of the street as you heard a familiar voice behind you, sending chills down your spine.
“We caught this one.” Merle reported to the tall man that you had been interrogated by earlier. You froze in your tracks.
“Perfect.” The man smirked before turning to where Daryl had been hiding.
“Better stop shooting Daryl, or else I’ll have to punish this pretty little thing.” The governor threatened as Daryl snuck out from his hiding spot raising his arms. You tried to wriggle out of Merle’s grip but he was too strong. He just held onto you tighter as his nails began to dig into you, causing you to wince in pain.
“Bring him here!” The governor demanded as a group of men took Daryl’s crossbow and gun from him before punching him in the stomach and dragging him over to the governor.
“No! Stop it!” You shouted desperately, trying to push your way to get to Daryl but Merle held you back, lifting your feet off of the ground.
“Ol’ governor here got a good going at yer girl there.” Merle laughed holding up your tank top, to Daryl. You winced in Merle’s grip, feeling humiliated.
Daryl’s whole body started to tense up, suddenly realizing why Glenn had no top on.
“Only wish he shared her.” Merle said, riling Daryl up further.
“Now sweetheart, we are going to have a little repeat of earlier,” The governor chuckled menacingly, “while Merle and your boyfriend here are going to fight in the pit.”
Merle released his grip on you for a moment, out of shock. You saw an opportunity and took it, you swung your body around gripping Merle’s knife from his holster. Before you could hide it you heard the Governor’s jeering voice.
“That’s not going to help you sweetheart.” His voice was cold with no emotion as he looked at you, his eyes dark.
You felt the knife being pried out of your grasp as you were held still in front of the governor. He had no weapon, only his fists. You looked at Daryl, as he looked away. Before you could look back at the governor, you felt something hit the side of your face. You looked at the governor only to see your blood grazing his knuckles. He had backhanded you. You tried to touch your burning cheek with your hands but the guard behind you kept you restrained. The Governor laughed, his laugh sinister and cruel before he punched you in the stomach, winding you and causing you to fall on your side. The guard left you on the ground for a moment as you heard Daryl, “Leave her the fuck alone!” He roared. His fists clenching and his jaw tightening at the sight of you on the ground.
“Take them to the pit.” The governor demanded, pointing at Merle and Daryl.
“Please, don’t do this.” You whispered, a coppery taste filling your mouth.
“And someone shut her up!” The Governor yelled before following the others to the pit.
You felt a rag be stuffed into your mouth as you bit down hard, trying to refuse it entry but failing. You felt yourself being led back over to the Governor.
“Lucky you sweetheart, I’m letting you watch the show.” He smiled sinisterly as you looked in horror at Daryl and Merle in a small circle surrounded by walkers.
~~~~~~
The duo ran back to where they were hidden before they rescued you and Glenn when they bumped into a woman.
“Where were you?” Rick asked her.
“I got you in.” She said not making eye contact.
“Thank you.” Rick said softly as the woman nodded to him.
“Rick?” Glenn began to panic, as Daryl was still not back yet and there was no sign of you.
“Shit!” Rick cursed as he looked back towards the wall. As the gunfire seemed to calm down Glenn looked back at Rick.
“We can’t leave them.” He stressed
“We won’t be leaving them.” Rick stated, as he looked back at the wall.
Michonne led Rick to a weak spot in the wall and returned back to the car with Glenn, wishing Rick luck.
Rick quickly ducked behind some cover as he held back a gasp. Rick focused his eyes on the arena, where he saw Y/n being held by the governor and Daryl and Merle fighting in the center with people cheering.
~~~~~~
“Merle?” Daryl said in disbelief, he couldn’t quite believe it. Merle smirked as Daryl looked back at you. Seeing the Governor’s hands on you made him sick.
Merle sneakily punched his brother in the jaw, while he looked at you helplessly. The governor made you watch as Daryl received blow after blow from his own brother. You could feel hot tears flowing down your cheeks, stinging your face as they fell.
“I only wished he had shared her.” Merle scoffed, at his brother, but this only riled Daryl up more. He didn’t care if Merle picked on him but when it came to you, he wasn’t going to allow it. Daryl uppercut his brother as he heard a cry from you.
You yelled out in pain as the governor backhanded your cheek again, trying to distract Daryl. Then a bang was heard, as smoke engulfed the air around you. Shots were heard as Rick grabbed Daryl. Daryl grabbed his crossbow and ran to you. He raised his fist, ready to hit the governor when you rested your hand on his arm.
“Please I just want to go home.” You whispered as Daryl nodded.
He hit the governor in the back of the head with his crossbow before taking your hand and running through the gap in the wall after Rick and Merle.
“Rick?” Glenn yelled as he heard movement across the woods. Glenn and Michonne waited by the car ready to make a quick getaway. They both froze when they saw Merle following the group.
“Hold your fire!” Rick ordered as him, Daryl, you and Merle emerged from the woods.
“No no no no!” Glenn yelled as he saw Merle. “He is not coming with us!“ Glenn yelled as Rick nodded his head trying to deescalate the situation as best he could.
“He isn’t.” Rick agreed as Daryl spun around.
“He is.” Daryl insisted but Glenn shook his head.
“Look what he did!” Glenn shouted, pointing to his many bruises, and then towards you.
“Ol Governor shoulda shared her around.” Merle smirked looking at Y/n as Rick knocked him out with his gun.
“Please can we just go home and talk about this later.” You pleaded.
“But Merle is family, he’s blood.” Daryl pleaded with Rick.
“He’s not our blood.” Glenn shouted.
“Daryl, our group is our blood. You are our blood, Merle isn’t.” Rick said, as Daryl huffed.
“I can’t leave him.” Daryl pleaded to Rick but Rick looked away.
“Guess it’s just me and my brother again.”
“Daryl please, please don’t do this.” You pleaded as Glenn hugged you. Rick followed after Daryl, trying to convince him to stay but his mind was made up.
Everyone but Daryl and Merle returned to the prison. Once they arrived back at the prison Hershel began treating Glenn and Michonne’s wounds. You looked into the little mirror you had in your cell as you treated your wounds, wincing in pain. You wished Daryl would have stayed. You looked longingly over at the perch, where Daryl had been staying. Feeling hot tears run down your face.
~~~~~~
Daryl wished he could have stayed with the others but he knew that if he left his brother again he would be consumed with guilt. Daryl had tuned out from his brother’s pointless rants as the two brothers set off for the river.
~~~~~~
You could hear the others talking about the governor’s potential retaliation. You knew that it was inevitable. The governor would come for them. You heard your sister Maggie trying to comfort Glenn. You heard it all but you just felt hopeless without Daryl. Something always found a way to drive a wedge between you, but not this time. You refused to let anything stop you from being with Daryl, if he came back that is.
You were snapped out of your thoughts as you heard gunshots and shouts. It was only then you realized how empty and quiet the cell block had become. You immediately jumped into action, grabbing the shotguns and rifles that were lying in a spare cell. You rushed to the courtyard looking for your family, and the rest of the group. You slid the guns along the floor to Maggie and the others as you aimed for the shooter in the tower. You looked for your father, Rick, Michonne and Glenn but couldn’t spot them. It was then you noticed a van driving up to the front gate. It smashed through the security gates of the prison as it entered the main yard. You hid behind cover as you watched the van. Everything was quiet for a moment until a latch was heard opening as the van released at least a dozen walkers into the main yard. It was then you heard gunshots as you spotted your father on the ground shooting at the incoming walkers. You saw a truck enter the main yard with Glenn driving it. You watched as he picked up Hershel and made his way to the courtyard. You ran towards the main yard trying to help Michonne only for Maggie to pull you back. Beth closed the gate shut behind Glenn as they watched Michonne head towards the main gate. The governor and his guards seemed to have gone now but you were still on edge.
~~~~~~
Meanwhile Rick was pinned against the perimeter fence by two walkers. He could feel the metal wiring digging into his back as he did his best to fight them off. He jumped when he saw an arrow pierce one of the walker’s heads, as the other was pulled off of him. Rick saw Daryl and nodded at him putting his hand on his shoulder.
“Is Y/n okay?” Daryl questioned but Rick shrugged, sympathetically. Daryl nodded at Rick as Daryl, Rick and Merle made their way to the front gate. Michonne was waiting there, having spotted them. She let them in quickly. They closed the gate behind them, which left them with one more security gate until they were in the main yard with the walkers.
They got into formation as they entered the main yard, closing the second gate behind them. They killed any walker that got too close. They quickly made it to the courtyard. You opened the gate quickly before nearly throwing yourself on Daryl. Rick latched the gate behind him as he looked around for Carl and Judith. Carl came running out telling Rick that Judith was in the cell. Rick let out a sigh of relief.
~~~~~~
You held Daryl as close to you as physically possible. His body was tense at first but his body melted into your embrace. His hand supported your head, as his other hand rested on your waist. Daryl pulled away as he inspected your face.
“I’m sorry.” He said softly as his hand caressed your cheek. You leaned softly against his hand, your eyes roaming his face, before looking up at his eyes.
“Let me help clean you up.” You smiled as you intertwined your hand with Daryl’s. You led Daryl back to your cell as you began dabbing at the cuts on his face. He had a busted lip and was bruised in several places.
“Im sorry.” You whispered as Daryl shushed you, pulling you onto his lap.
“Ya have nothin to be sorry for.” He looked at you, his face sincere as you wrapped your arms around his neck, leaning your forehead against his. You tilted your head slowly as you kissed the man in front of you. You felt his hand snake around your waist and pull you closer to him as a smile appeared on your face.
“I’m glad you're back.” You whispered, as Daryl grunted in response.
“I ain’t leavin again.” Daryl said as you brushed the hair out of his eyes.
“I promise.” He said softly as you nestled your head into the crook of his neck.

Lingering Words | Daryl Dixon
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Reader
Plot: Daryl regrets pushing you away when you begin to get a little too close to Rick. Will he change his mind and let you in?
Warnings: None.
Era: Prison Era, Start of Season 4.
A/N: Might make this into a short series.
You gave Zack a friendly wave and a smile as you saw him helping Daryl load up the car.
“I’ll be back soon!” He called out as you turned your head towards him.
“I know you will.” You smiled before walking back into your cell block to help with the cleaning, Beth was already inside minding Judith.
“Did you say bye to Zack?” You asked your sister.
“I don’t say goodbye Y/n.” She replied as your nodded your head. You couldn’t help but think that Beth was too cautious nowadays. She never allowed herself to develop any attachments to anyone, except her family. You started gathering clothes to wash when Daryl came into the cell block.
“Just headin out.” He said as you hummed in response, waiting for the door to close but it didn’t. You turned to see him standing at the doorway looking at you, almost like he was waiting for something.
“What?” You asked, getting frustrated. A sadness creeping up inside you as you thought of how things could have been, or should have been. Beth gave him a hopeful smile.
He shrugged his shoulders, with a hint of sadness as he walked out of the cell block into the yard leaving you with your sister and your work.
“You don’t need to be so cold to him Y/n.” Beth spoke quietly.
“What happened to not getting attached?” You asked your sister who remained silent and turned back to Judith. You brought the clothes to wash, off to Carol as you saw a truck leaving through the front gates. You thought about waving but decided not to.
You had always wanted to go on a run but your father thought it was safer for you to be here. You noticed Rick and Carl hovering around the crops and pigs so you made your way over to them.
“Howdy, sheriff and deputy!” You called out, tipping an imaginary hat in their direction, Carl turned to you laughing and Rick gave you a look, while rolling his eyes playfully.
“Whatcha doin?” You asked raising your brow at the father and son.
“Violet looks off.” Carl started before Rick spoke.
“Don’t name them Carl.” Rick said before looking down.
“I think Violet is a good name,” You said giving Carl a smile. “I’ll take a look at her now.” Carl nodded happily.
You had trained as a vet with your father for a year before everything started plus you had experience with animals after living on the farm, so Carl was more than happy for your offer of help. You hopped over the fence as Rick went to give you a hand to steady you. You rolled your eyes back at him playfully while he chuckled.
You decided to have your father take a look at Violet for a second opinion but you believed it seemed like a flu of some sorts, but again you only had one year of experience. Once Carl went off back into the prison you pulled Rick aside.
“How you getting on?” You asked softly, placing your hand on his muscular arm.
“Gettin there.” He sighed as he massaged his temples.
“How’s Carl?”
“Better.” Rick nodded. “He forgets he’s only a kid sometimes.” The man sighed as you gave him a hug.
“He’ll be alright, he’s got a good man looking out for him.” You nodded as Rick chuckled revealing his slightly blushing face. You stayed faced to face for a moment until the front gates burst open. They were back. You looked at Rick as you felt for your pistol in your holster, feeling it you gave Rick a nod and ran towards the gates to help open them, to let your group in.
You could see a small group running around the perimeter banging on pots and pans to attract the walkers but you kept your hand on your gun just in case. Rick stayed beside you as he pulled on the rope to open the gates. You began putting down the walkers nearing the fence as the cars quickly drove in. Rick pulled the rope again, allowing the gate to close as you admired his muscular arms in the sun light, careful not to let him see. The group hurriedly exited the cars as Daryl saw you, making his way over to you.
“Where’s Beth?” He asked, panting.
“Cell block.” You said quickly before trying to reach Daryl’s arm. “What’s going on?” You just missed him, Daryl took off towards the cell block. Rick shrugged at you before you both jogged after him.
You saw Daryl standing just outside Beth’s cell door as you approached with Rick behind you.
“Zack didn’t make it.” Daryl started as Beth froze for a moment before getting up slowly. You looked at Rick in fear.
“Was he killed?” Beth asked, Daryl nodded regretfully, as she moved towards her poster on the wall. You looked at Daryl and then back at Rick, thinking back to your encounter with Zack earlier in the day.
“What happened?” You asked Daryl softly.
“Please don’t tell me.” Beth asked as you all nodded retreating to the courtyard.
Daryl explained as you felt a tear slide down your cheek, no matter how many people you had lost you still never got used to it. You looked over at Daryl who looked disappointed in himself, you wanted to hug him but his words still rung fresh in your mind so instead you hugged Rick. You felt his hands support the back of your head, careful not to pull on your hair as he held you close to him. You were shorter than him so you had to stand on your tippy toes to give him a proper hug.
You were so engulfed in Rick’s comforting embrace that you never noticed the archer standing behind you, full of regret. You heard the sound of footsteps moving away as Rick told you it would be okay. You had heard those words more times than you could count, and yet they never seemed to come true.
“I should see Beth.” You whispered as Rick released you from his hug raising his brow at you.,
“You okay?” He said softly.
“No, but I will be.” You replied as you slowly walked towards your younger sister’s cell.
Rick jogged after Daryl, calling out his name.
“Daryl!” The man stopped walking to let Rick catch up to him.
“I’m sorry about Zack, how are you holding up?” Rick asked, eager to make sure his best friend was okay.
“Gotta be okay, don’t I?” Daryl shrugged as he began walking, making Rick walk beside him.
“Come on man, you’re allowed have feelings.” Rick insisted as Daryl nodded.
“You and Y/n…a thing now?” Daryl muttered hesitantly, eager to know but afraid of the answer.
“What?” Rick said, looking at Daryl confused. “No we aren’t. Why?”
Rick’s words instantly flooded Daryl’s body with relief.
“Nothin.” The archer shrugged before walking off once more.
That night at dinner you sat with Rick and Hershel. Rick sat beside you. You kept stealing glances at Daryl only to find him looking right back at you. You turned away smiling as you noticed him blushing ever so slightly. Daryl’s blush soon turned to anger when he noticed Rick’s arm snake around your waist, holding you close. Daryl knew that should be him, but he had ruined it.
“Gonna take watch.” Daryl muttered to Carol before standing up and leaving before she could object.
You looked back over only to see an empty seat in Daryl’s place. It all felt wrong, but it was Daryl’s choice.
Daryl walked over to the closest guard tower and began surveying the prison. His eyes trailed over to the dinner where he saw you laughing with Rick. It made his blood boil, maybe he had made a mistake. Daryl turned back to the fence, noticing a cluster of walkers assembling. He headed down to that side of the fence and begin putting them down, making sure not to let the numbers rise too much. He had just started when a walker went down beside him, he turned to his side to see you holding your prized knife as you gave Daryl a small smile.
“Done eatin already?” Daryl questioned, looking back to the fence, to deal with the walkers.
“Mhm.” You hummed. You weren’t sure why you enjoyed Daryl’s company, you knew nothing could ever happen with him but yet your body and mind gravitated to him. Now you found yourself clearing the fence with him.
“How was your run?” You asked, trying to make conversation, to ease the building awkwardness.
“A’right.” Daryl shrugged before taking out a walker, not once looking at you.
You were about to give up your efforts to talk to him when he turned to face you.
“I don’t like it.” He whispered, looking away from your eyes and towards the ground.
“Don’t like what?” You asked, relieved to finally be able to have a conversation with him.
“You and Rick.” He muttered as you looked at him confused.
“Daryl you didn’t want this.” You sighed.
“I know.” He breathed heavily.
“So why is it bothering you?” You questioned, eager to know if he still cared about you.
“It should be me. It should be us.” The man said, focusing his eyes on the ground. “I want to be the one to protect you. I want to keep you safe.”
“I’m confused Daryl,” you started, trying to make eye contact with him but failing. “You didn’t want any of this, you told me that we were better off apart. It would be less hurt for us both.” You questioned.
“That was before I saw you with him.” Daryl muttered.
“Daryl you made this very clear. We are nothing. And we will only ever be nothing. You don’t want anyone else to protect.” You said softly, the memory coming back to you, the feelings of heartbreak following. “You didn’t want anyone else to babysit.” You winced at the memory.
“I didn’t mean it like that.” Daryl said quietly, looking up at you, “I’m sorry.” Daryl said softly as he moved closer to you.
“Well then Daryl you tell me what it means. Because I believe you were pretty clear that you wanted nothing to do with me!” You hadn’t realized that you were shouting. Daryl noticed more walkers approaching as he tried to move you from the fence but you stood firm.
“Don’t touch me.” Your voice was strained from trying to keep your tears at bay.
“I couldn’t lose ya Y/n.” Daryl said softly as you looked up at him. “I couldn’t let myself care. I couldn’t risk loving you and losing you.” The man muttered looking back down at his feet.
“Really?” You sighed, relief washing over you, you always thought that you had done something wrong or that you weren’t good enough. “I always thought it was me.” Daryl looked at you his eyes full of concern.
“No, no it was nothing to do with you.” Daryl insisted, his forehead touching yours as he maintained eye contact.
“Just seeing you hugging Rick and being with him hurt.” Daryl confessed as he tried to judge your expression. “I know I’m not much good at words but seeing ya with him made me mad.” He paused as if trying to read your emotions. “Made me think that I wanna be the one to do all of that with you.”
There was a pause as you thought about what Daryl had said. His body seemed to retreat as if expecting rejection.
You lifted your head slowly to look into his icy blue eyes.
“You have a good way with words.” You smiled at him as he looked at you hesitantly, meeting your eyes with his.
“I want to do all of that with you too Daryl, but it can’t be one sided.” You tilted your head as he nodded slowly, his brows furrowed with concentration as he looked from your lips to your eyes.
“Are you okay with that?” You asked, not sure what he would say. He took a deep breath and nodded.
“Yeah, I just want you to be mine, and me to be yours.” He said slowly, you could nearly smell the fear off of him.
“I want that too Daryl.” You smiled, and then chuckled.
“Rick is my friend Daryl, a really good friend.” You continued to laugh. “I’m not with him.” You smiled as Daryl looked at you with relief in his eyes.
You glanced back over at the walkers and back to Daryl. “Should we?”
“After you.” Daryl gave you one of his rare smiles as the two of you cleared the cluster of walkers from the fence. Daryl bent down to reinforce the timber keeping the fence strong as you kept a lookout.
Daryl gave you a nod before slipping his hand in yours and making your way back to the cell block together.

Wrong Room | Draco Malfoy
Pairing: Draco x reader
Plot: After a crazy night your morning gets worse and worse. Draco finds out about your crush on him and you went to the wrong dorm bathrooms only to be found by the one and only Draco Malfoy.
Warnings: Light cursing, Implied Smut.
A/N: This came to mind and I had to write it heheh -R
You woke up to the sound of “Shots! Shots!” and muggle music ringing in your head.
Dammit Fred and George throwing a party, knowing you couldn’t resist.
You smiled to yourself you couldn’t deny that it was a great night, but you were paying the consequences today, at least it was Saturday. You sat up rubbing your temples and stretching your arms. You rubbed your eyes only to see makeup smudged on them. You jumped out of bed to face the mirror, to your horror your makeup was still on, at least you had pajamas on. You quickly got up and raced to the dorm bathrooms. You walked into the first empty room and turned the shower on, you didn’t hesitate hopping in immediately. It felt great feeling the makeup leave your face.
As you finished in the shower you stepped out to grab your towel from the rack, only to remember you didn’t bring it. You cursed under your breath.
How could I be so stupid?
Your heart started racing, trying to figure out what to do when you heard the lock in the door begin to move. You hadn’t locked it, could your day get any worse? You frantically searched for something to use to cover you, as the door opened.
Not him, anyone but him.
The blonde hair gave him away instantly he hadn’t seen you yet. Maybe if you were quiet he wouldn’t notice you. Draco had his towel over his shoulder maybe you could ask for it? It was worth a try.
Draco turned around slowly as he noticed you standing there, you heard boys voices and began to panic. Draco’s face was completely calm.
“I can help you out, but I need to ask you something, deal?”
You heard the voices getting louder and frantically nodded your head. He moved closer to you as you backed up. You were now against the wall, with Draco just inches from you. He moved his body directly in front of you, as if to shield you.
“May I?” He said softly, his finger tracing your cheek. You felt your body yearn for him, he had a natural pull to him that you couldn’t resist. You could smell his cologne lingering in the air as he moved closer to you. He gently placed his lips on yours, but once the door started to open his kiss got more aggressive, his hand loosely gripping your neck.
“Woah-Nice one Draco! Next room, mate, Draco’s getting some!” You heard loud cheers and laughs, as Draco moved his lips to your neck, slowly nibbling the tender spots. A soft moan left your mouth, you could have sworn you felt something hard against your leg.
Merlin’s beard tell me he didn’t hear that.
You broke the kiss, once you were sure you were both alone. You both looked into each others eyes, seeing who would talk first. Draco turned and chucked you his towel, barely taking his eyes off you.
“Maybe next time bring a towel and go to the girl’s bathroom, yeah?” He chuckled as he turned around. You quickly wrapped his towel around you, it was soft and smelt like him.
“Draco...” He turned around slowly as you gulped.
“Thank you, you didn’t have to do that.” You said softly not quite believing that this was the same Draco.
“I’m not that bad Y/n, besides you owe me one.” He smiled, you had never seen him smile before.
“Yeah once you’re dressed leave with me, no one will bother you then.” He said as he took off his shirt, turning the shower on. You looked at him confused as he chuckled.
“I did come here to shower, you know.”
“Oh yeah I’ll turn around.” You turned around slowly taking in the view.
“Could join me?” You could almost hear the smirk on his face. “It’s what you wanted right? At least according to the veritaserum?” You blushed at the thought.
“It’s okay I’ll head now, you don’t need to wait for me.”
“I’m teasing you.” You rolled your eyes as you heard him get into the shower. Part of you was tempted to join him, I mean if his kisses are that good, imagine showering with him. You shook your head, bad idea, but?
“How was the Gryffindork’s party anyway?” Draco questioned.
“It was good, you should have stayed.” You chuckled, remembering the rest of the night.
“I would have stayed for you darling, you should go to the next Slytherin party, now those are good.”
“I’ll keep it in mind.” You smiled, you turned back around to see his silhouette on the shower curtain. You felt your breath hitch in your chest, your heart racing. I mean it’s just one shower right?
Fuck it.
Maybe it was last nights confidence, you didn’t quite know but you dropped your towel and pulled the shower curtain over slightly, as Draco turned around. He raised his eyebrow, biting his lip with a small smirk. You shrugged your shoulders.
“Changed my mind.” You smiled as you saw the hunger grow in his eyes.

Slow Dance
Pairing: Draco x Reader
Summary: Harry ditches you on the day of the Yule ball to go with someone else, you still show up hoping he would be waiting for you. Yet the unexpected happened and the worst night of your life turned into the best, all because of a blonde haired boy.
A\N: Warning listening to Slow Dance by AJ Mitchell and Ava Max while reading this will give you butterflies. <3 -R
You walked down the stairs in your dark green dress. You were late, you searched the hall for Harry’s blue eyes, he was dancing with Cho. You saw her laugh, and it felt like a knife to your chest. You were meant to go to the Yule Ball with Harry, until he cancelled this morning. You still showed up, holding on to a shred of hope that Harry would be waiting for you. You walked to the side and sat on a chair in the corner. You watched the couples dancing together, desperately wishing you were dancing with Harry.
“Care to dance?” You heard a familiar voice ask, you looked up slowly to see Draco Malfoy, holding out his hand to you. You wanted to smile but saw Pansy out of the corner of your eye.
You weren’t going to get rejected twice today.
“You have to be joking, you came here with Pansy.” You say, raising your brow and crossing your arms, sitting back into the chair.
“I came with Pansy, she wanted to make Blaise jealous.” You looked up at the boy hopeful, his hand still stretched out to you.
“So are you getting up or do I have to pick you up?” The boy smirked, you smiled and sat up, dusting off your dress as you took his hand. He led you to the dance floor and wrapped his arm around your waist, you placed your hand around his neck as your eyes met.
You took your opportunity to observe him, his tall slender figure, in front of you. Your fingers traced against his crisp white shirt, under his tailor made black suit. He really looked like a Prince. Your eyes met one again.
Draco observed your figure, the way your dress fit like a glove, the slit in your dress. He noticed your legs and slowly made his way up your body. He hadn’t noticed that he was biting his lip as your eyes met once again.
“Why were you sitting alone?” Draco asked, avoiding your eyes. You sighed.
“Harry cancelled on me this morning.” You replied glancing over at him laughing with Cho, it still stung that he decided he didn’t want you anymore. Draco angled your face so your eyes met.
“I’m sorry.” He said softly. “I was actually going to ask you.” The boy said meekly, his cheeks turning red.
“Malfoy not so brave anymore are you?.” You giggle feeling your cheeks burning, as he rolled his eyes.
“I wanted to ask you too, Draco.” You said softly as he looked at you with hopeful eyes. He bowed before you as you curtsied, he offered you his hand.
“Care to dance darling?” He asked, with a big smile on his face.
“Why of course.” You giggle taking his hand as he wraps his arm around your waist. You put your arm around his neck.
“I didn’t know you danced Malfoy?” You chuckled.
“There’s a lot you don’t know about me.” He smirked as he dipped you, your hair grazed the floor. He pulled you in and without thinking you kissed him. As soon as your lips met any doubt in your mind disappeared. He pulled you back up and tightened his grip on your waist, pulling you into him, his lips smashed against yours. They were hungry and powerful, something told you he had been thinking about this for awhile. You had your arms around his neck deepening the kiss, but you knew he had full control.
You rested your head on his shoulder as he led, you could smell his signature green apples and peppermint. You never wanted this moment to end.
The rest of the night was filled with laughter and smiles including the odd snog or two. You were amazed at how one person completely changed your night. What started as the worst day of your life, became the best.

I told you so | Draco Malfoy
Pairing: Draco x Reader
Summary: Just as your friend Malfoy predicted, Cedric broke your heart. What happens when Draco realizes his hatred for Cedric was actually jealousy?
Warnings: Slight cursing, Mention of s*x, Implied s*x, light smut?
A\N: This is severely unedited, I wrote it in the moment. Hope it’s alright. Hahahha -Rach.
“I thought you said you were done with me.” You snapped trying to put on a brave face. You spun around when you didn’t get an answer, only to come face to face with Draco.
“Draco...sorry I was talking to-“
“Cedric. I know.” He gave you a small smile.
“If you came here to gloat, I’m not in the mood.” You muttered, turning to face the wall.
“You were right you know, he said I would never be enough, for him or anyone. I’m pathetic and useless. That no one would ever desire me, I wasn’t even useful for sex.” You said softly, looking down as your voice cracked.
“That motherfucker!” You had never heard Draco so mad. The blonde haired boy felt rage building inside of him but he thought of you. He was going to gloat later but not know, he had to fix you first. He refused to let anyone hurt you, he would deal with Diggory later.
He gently turned you around to face him. Your face tear stained and your eyes red from crying. It hurt the blonde haired boy more than he would like to admit. What angered him the most was that he knew this would happen. He knew Diggory would hurt you, but yet he let it happen. You told him not to get involved, he should have pushed harder.
Draco pulled you in to his chest and wrapped his arms around you. He was new to comfort but it came naturally around you. You didn’t reject his hug in fact you hugged him tighter. He wasn’t quite expecting that. It was then the boy knew that he wasn’t angry at Diggory, he was jealous. He wanted to go out with you. Before the boy could think about his latest thought he spoke.
“Permission to kiss you?” He bit his lip in a desperate bid to shut himself up, you would hate him now. You already thought of him as a player and this wouldn’t help. You lifted your face to lock eyes with him. He was flustered and blushing, you hadn’t seen him this way before, but you liked it. You could feel butterflies but didn’t quite know why, you had been frenemies with Malfoy since you both arrived at Hogwarts, but now you were seeing him in a different light. His pale, porcelain skin, fragile like him. His grey eyes, that had a hint of kindness in them. There was a softer side to your friend, maybe Malfoy wasn’t as stone cold as you thought. Emotion you scoffed, that was something you thought Draco never had. As you observed every feature, including his jawline that could cut skin, you realized Draco was actually very good looking. As you were observing him he was observing you. He stopped at your lips, biting his own, wishing for you to say something.
“Permission granted Mal-“
He didn’t give you a second to finish speaking he smashed his lips against yours. You were surprised, you liked it. In fact you wanted to do it again. You didn’t want it to stop. You heard footsteps and raised your wand to quickly lock the door. Draco spun around hearing the door slam.
“Shall we continue?” You said faintly, your confidence failing you. What if he changed his mind?
He adjusted his tie like he was in a hurry as he grabbed your waist pulling you into him. Your hand resting against his soft school shirt. He had undone his first button, and had his tie around his neck, loosely. You couldn’t deny the fact he was hot. You looked at each other, both getting the hint as you jumped up, wrapping your legs around him as he grabbed your waist. He carried you up the spiral staircase into your dorm. He set you down on the bed as he took off his shirt in one swift movement. You took off yours as Draco got on top of you. He kissed your jawline leading down to your neck. You were in your bra and skirt now and him just his bottoms. You got on top and kissed his jawline to his v line, as you felt a strong push. You were on the bed with Draco on top. He undid his belt as you removed your bra, he turned to face you, and looked you up and down, smirking.
“No desire my ass Diggory, you’re sexy as fuck princess.” You giggled.
“Permission to?”
“To what?” You smirked.
“Do what ever I want.” He smirked.
“Permission granted.”
You had the best night imaginable with Draco. He stayed there the next morning, which surprised you. Maybe he wasn’t a player like you had previously thought. As it was winter and everyone was at home, par a few students who chose to stay, Draco could stay in your room. As the sun shone onto your face, waking you up. You looked around seeing your and Draco’s clothes all around the room. His tie was hanging from the top bunk and yours still on your neck, just barely, that is.
Maybe this year at Hogwarts will be my best.
You thought to yourself. As you rolled over throwing your leg on top of the blonde haired boy beside you, and your hand on his chest. You nuzzled against his neck, as he stretched his arm, wrapping it around you, pulling you closer to him.
“I told you so.” He mumbled. His morning voice, deep and groggy, sending chills up and down your spine.
“Shove off Malfoy.” You giggled playfully, burying your face into the crook of his neck as he lightly kissed your forehead. A smile on your face. The blonde haired boy smiling too.

Hidden Heartbreak | Draco Malfoy
Summary: You and Draco recently broke up, leaving you both heartbroken. Only some of you are better at hiding it then others...
A\N: Hi guys! I hope you like this short sad Draco, I’m going to start a mini series soon which should hopefully be happier :) -R <3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Love looks good on her.” The blonde haired boy muttered under his breath, as he caught your eye across the hall. His whole body tensed up when he saw Diggory sitting beside you. He couldn’t help but remember when you sat beside him, he could still hear your laugh and see your smile. He remembered sneaking out to the astronomy tower at midnight, how you were so nervous. He remembered how he used to make you laugh, the feeling off pride swelling in his chest was now just a sad memory. A rare smile formed on Draco’s face but as he looked back at Cedric sitting with you his smile quickly faded.
Once again Draco felt that now familiar pain in his heart, accompanied by a lump in his throat. He could feel the tears brewing. He looked away, he couldn’t bear to see you so happy without him, especially when he was so sad.
Draco slowly stood up knowing he had to leave before his feelings took over. Draco had been doing this a lot, skipping meals, ditching his friends, he didn’t even compete in the quidditch matches which he so desperately loved.
He spent most of his time alone just trying to understand how you both had broken up not even two weeks ago and yet you had moved on. Leaving him lost, hurting and alone.
Did you actually care about him or was it an act? He had been stupid, he let his guard down around you. You made him weak.
As he paced down the corridor he desperately tried to convince himself that he didn’t care about you, that you meant nothing to him, but that only hurt him more. He arrived at his dorm and lay on his bed, facing the ceiling. This was his thinking spot now, it was too painful for him to go to the astronomy tower. Draco couldn’t understand how you were okay. How you could still smile and laugh while he was battling tears. You had moved on and it broke his heart.
But what Draco didn’t know was that you were good at hiding your heartbreak. Cedric pulled you closer as he joked with his friends. His hand rubbing your back slowly, making small circles. He gave you a small smile. It hurt you too much to smile back, seeing the love of your life’s eyes look so broken across the hall. Somehow you forced a laugh, trying to seem okay, trying to swallow the lump forming in your throat. The pain in your chest was no stranger to you anymore, it never left since the day Draco walked away from you. Even thinking about it hurt. It felt wrong sitting with Cedric but he was your boyfriend now, after Draco left. As you thought of him you couldn’t help but scan the room for his eyes. The same pair of eyes you fell in love with only, now they were cold and emotionless. You saw as he stood up and left the room. The pain in your chest growing.
You excused yourself as you went to the Third Year bathrooms, knowing they would be empty. You walked to the sink and took a look in the mirror.
How could he not care? He was your everything and he didn’t care how sad you were.
You looked at your features in the sink mirror, seeing your bottom lip tremble and your eyes emotionless. Draco always said you had a twinkle in your eyes, but now they looked so lifeless.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Draco was one of the first to leave class, as he waited in the hall he saw Cedric. Cedric smirked at Draco, and all the blonde haired boy wanted was to punch the smug look off of his face, but before he could react he saw you turning the corner. He was blown away by how good you looked. He couldn’t hide the blush that rushed to his cheeks or the longing in his heart. He wanted to be the one you were walking towards, it hurt to know that he once was.
You walked to Cedric as he wrapped his arms around you. Draco watched as you buried your face into the crook of his neck. Only this time you locked eyes. The world seemed like it stopped turning, time just stopped. It was just Draco and you, his heart raced 90 miles an hour.
“That should be me.” The broken hearted boy muttered as he broke eye contact. He walked away from you again, only this time it was final.
