Economy
Summary:
Economics is derived from the word oikos (house) and nemein (management). It is a social science which deals about production, allocation, distribution and consumption. Under consumption are goods (tangible) and services (intangible) that results to the unlimited wants and needs of the society.
The 5 basic questions in Economics are the following:
What to produce?
When to produce?
How to produce?
How much to produce?
How to distribute?
We also have 4 (four) Economic Resources namely; Land, Labor, Capital and Entrepreneur. Economics has 2 (two) branches, Macroeconomics which means the overall and Microeconomics which means the small sides or the individuality. Moreover, there are also 4 (four) Economic System, the Traditional System, Command System, Market System and lastly the Mixed Economy System. In Addition, Reciprocity is under the Economic Institutions which means the exchange of goods of labor. To end, the downward situation of a economic in a society is called scarcity.
Reflection:
Economics is one of the most interesting study that I learned in this quarter. It is a huge and complex topic and reflecting on this subject, piece by piece, requires some patience and ability to put the pieces together. The relationships between simple choices, such as supply and demand, drives all economic and commercial exchange but only through the lens of economic models that attempt to layout this system by combing mathematical principles and psycho-social evaluation. All in all, this was very interesting introduction to some of the complex drivers that propel society we are living.
Discussions are essential for us students because we are allowed an opportunity to weigh and evaluate our own personal thoughts with those of others. This comparison helps gauge where I stand on many political and social issues that derive from economic theories and philosophies. Knowing where I stand amongst my peers is a helpful measurement to contrast and qualify my own. It is very difficult to fathom how the entire economic systems sometimes works without a major disaster every day. The ability of the economic markets in the world bring life to a real society. Also, this made me realize that supply and demand in the society cries of scarcity that seems louder and louder every year.

Education
Summary:
Education refers to the various ways through which knowledge is passed on to the other members of the society. This knowledge can be in the form of factual data, skills, norms, and values. On the other hand, schooling refers to the formal education one receives under a specially trained teacher. As has been discussed, education in socialization is used to promote the norms and values of a society from one generation to the next. In some countries, the transmission function of education is taken on by families. However, in more advanced countries, social institutions such as schools become important as the family can no longer provide the tools and important knowledge needed by the young student. This is the reason why formal education was developed. Because education is used to transmit norms and values by social integration, it can also be regarded as a unifying force. It promotes desired values and ensures conformity. In cases of deviance, it provides widely known approaches to convert. Formal education helps students to discover their social placement, approved statuses and roles that will help the society’s longevity. Educational systems consider the various talents and interests of students and attempt to provide opportunities that provide a good fit for these talents and interests. Formal education, in a way, is an equalizer. It focuses on achievement, rather than educational. Educational institutions are the center of cultural innovation because they stimulate intellectual inquiry and promote critical thinking. It enables new ideas to develop, as well as provide bases for new knowledge to become accepted in the mainstream. Through schools, theories are proven; technologies are improved; and cultures can adapt to the changing society. As more families have both parents working at the same time, schools tend to become an institution of child care. As children have to be in school, parents can have time to perform their economic duties without being burdened with childcare duties. Another latent function of formal education is the establishment of social relationships that would have a lasting impact on the life of a child. Lastly, the status of education as a human right is no new thing. Many international conventions such as the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities have reaffirmed this right.
When children receive basic primary education, they will be able to learn the basics of literacy and numeracy, and hence, gain the basic social and life skills they need to be an active member of society and live a fulfilling life.
Reflection:
On this week, we have learned about Education as a social institution and its importance to a society. Education can be a medium to pass the culture, traditons and knowledge to the next generation, and is a process through skills, knowledge and values are transmitted from the teachers to the learners and is a very important support pillar in the society. Education has two forms, Formal and Informal education. Formal being provided in the classroom and is being used for 21st century learning. Like workshops, labs ,etc. While non-formal education refers to the educational activity outside a formal setup like for example, community-based sports programs, etc. All of these leads to the function of education to an individual, society and the nation. It gives knowledge, leads to career progression, builds character, helps a nation progress, a is a human right. Education as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a human right and everyone has the right to education. Lastly, education has manifest function and latent function, manifest for example as schools are expected to educate the children in the knowledge and skills that they need and latent, schools not only educate young but provide mass entertainment. On this week, we have learned about Education as a social institution and its importance to a society. Kinship
Summary:
Kinship is the most universal and basic of all human relationships and is based on ties of blood, marriage, or adoption. Kinship can involve a relationship between two people unrelated by lineage or marriage, according to David Murray Schneider. At its most basic, kinship refers to "the bond of marriage and reproduction," says the Sociology Group, but kinship can also involve any number of groups or individuals based on their social relationships.
Kinship is important to a person and a community's well-being. Because different societies define kinship differently, they also set the rules governing kinship, which are sometimes legally defined and sometimes implied.
It also covers social connections, it has a wider role in society, says the Sociology Group. It maintains unity, harmony, and cooperation among relationships, sets guidelines for communication and interactions among people, defines the rights and obligations of the family and marriage as well as the system of political power in rural areas or tribal societies, including among members who are not related by blood or marriage, helps people better understand their relationships with each other at lastly but not the least, it helps people better relate to each other in society.

Petty crime
Robbery
Social Control
Measures and pressures designed to ensure conformity to the approved standards
Informal
Formal
Sanctions
Powerful in leading an individual to conform to social norms
Formal Sanction
Informal Sanction
Positive Sanction
Negative Sanction
Reflection:
When we were little, rewards were given to us whenever we do something good or when we perform well in school. And even with the little incentives that we received, we were so happy back then. However, what we feel is the exact opposite as we are punished when we're doing something bad. And though we've grown into teenagers now, nothing much as is different, even for adults, and it's called sanction, negative for the punishments and positive sanctions for the rewards. More sanctions such as formal is given by the higher-ups or those which gives off the formal vibe like the government and informal when spontaneously given by an individual or group that was either accepted or disapproved.
With the topic on sanction, sensational crimes can also be associated as there are deeds done for a person to receive punishment. These crimes include kidnap for ransom, illegal drug trafficking, bank robberies, illegal gambling, petty crimes, police personel arrested, carnapping and robbery.
In order to make sure that these crimes will decrease and for people to abide the law, social control happens. The society uses sanctions to enforce a standard of behavior that is deemed socially acceptable. The objective of social control is to maintain order in society and ensure conformity in those who are deemed as deviant in the society. There are 2 types of Social Control, which are Informal which may come in gossips or opinion and Formal for set up rules.
All these, are ways to ensure that a person gets what he deserves and that order is followed in the society to maintain harmony.

Socialization
Summary:
Socialization is the one that builds the community to what it is now. It is what shapes us the most from being a blank slate from birth, as stated in John Locke's theory "tabula rasa." Most of the things that fill this slate are from the environment according to the Social Learning Theory.
Socialization is simply the connection between individuals in a community or society, meaning it has to have mediums to create this connections. These mediums are what we call Agents of Socialization namely family, schools, peer group, mass media, religion, the state, and major social and historical events. These agents, present in our environment our whole lifetime, are the causes of interaction and will forever influence our attitude towards the society.
Reflection:
As far back as when first human communities emerged, socialization had always been the main factor for our species' survival. When we developed our eye for collective thinking, the realization of organized activity lead to more successful hunt and shelter building. And as we learn more, we take note of it: which now became what we call culture. And as generations come and go, culture is assed down, therefore enculturating gives life for these gained knowledge that it may not be forgotten; only improved.
So with socialization playing an important role in sustaining a community, groups became societies, and by then, we started to specialize. It is only logical that some of us had to be specializing with how our social lives work. An example is John Locke who coined "tabula rasa" or the idea that we are born as blank slates. In social learning theory, in harmony with John Locke, states that an individual is shaped by environment, so as we grow from being a blank slate, we learn from our observations and how we respond to it.
Moreover, our environment is also filled with different agents or in a more general term, Agents of Socialization. This includes our family, schools, peer groups, mass media, religion, the state, and major social and historical events. These are the things that we will always come across in our lifetime and will forever influence how we place.
