s3 ep2 changed lives i fear

i was rewatching s1 and how did i not realise the whole allie situation literally foreshadows the whole of jackie's arch.

like tai is the one to come up with the 'freeze her out' strategy - like how she is the first one to take away jackie's leadership in pushing everyone to take a vote and leave the plane (aka the beginning of their new society).

plus the conversation happens between the main leaders of girls when they're in the wilderness - shauna, tai, nat and lottie (i definately think shauna is going to have a lot of power in s3, probably kicking nat out of that leadership/antler queen spot). it's not only noticeable that jackie's not a part of the conversation, but it's pointed out with 'jackie won't like this', which points to the idea that jackie isn't as much of a leader as she first appears, foreshadowing her push out of the group. this is furthered by shauna being the only one to openly agree with the plan, her being the one that ultimately pushes jackie out to her death.

allie also directly mirrors jackie in the wilderness - when football (i cant say soccer sorry) is the most important thing to them, allie gets kicked as the weakest member, and when their survival is the central issue, jackie is pushed out because she's the weakest.

also, there's got a be some sort of ironic reason they said 'freeze her out'.

i know this is probably something people worked out ages ago but im dumb and analysing yellowjackets is one of the few things that distracts me from going insane atm

i will forever be obsessed with how jackie haunts the narrative in yellowjackets, even outside of a jackieshauna context (but i have A LOT to say about that after the first episodes of s3). there's a reason jackie was one of the only characters we knew was going to die before we saw her death and it all links back to classical tragedies.

in aristotle's poetics, tragedy is hinged on the idea of inevitability, which was mostly brought about due to stories of the time majorly featuring the gods, as most theatre depicted religious stories to the public (which is also the reason for the existence of deus ex machina).

jackie and her depiction on the show mirror this (especially if you believe there is a supernatural aspect to it); we see the prevalence of the necklace, the symbolism of jackie and bunnies, and the deterioration of her relationship with shauna - who is completely integrated into the group as the butcher while jackie is being pushed out. all of this just adds to the growing feeling of inevitability throughout season 1 as it grows nearer to jackie's death. this is even clearer when you take into account that classical tragic heroes (like achilles or heracles) specifically fall from a place of high status, power and morals. for jackie, the first episode emphasises her "perfect" life and her position as the undisputed leader of the team, which is shown through her scene with coach martinez and the scene at the party where she tells everyone to say something nice to each other.

jackie being kicked out the cabin and her death act as the moment of catharsis at the end of season 1 that solidifies her as the ultimate tragic figure of the show so far, explaining (through looking at her as a neo-classical character) why she so effectively haunts the entire narrative of the show, not just shauna's.

episode 2 is basically a jackieshauna confirmation idc and im hoping that we technically get a jackieshauna kiss bc of shauna hallucinating jackie or smth, bc i feel like she doesn't actually care ab melissa. also, we know that ella is back for at least one scene bc of the trailer so it would be great if there were more teen jackieshauna interactions
