Star Trek: Discovery might have wrapped its fifth and final season, but it’ll never truly be over!
I’m currently seeking submissions for the first annual Celebrate Discovery Zine, a collection of art, fanfic, essays, poems, how-to’s, and photographs.
Submissions are open August 1-September 1, with publication scheduled for September 24. At this time, only a digital release is planned; however, a high-res, print-ready version will be available for anyone wanting to print the issue for themselves.
Submissions can be sent as attachments (rtf, doc, docx, pdf, jpg, or png) or in the body of the email to jordanlafordan [at] gmail.com. Please do not send links.
Nothing created using AI generative tools will be accepted.
Unfortunately, this is not a paid opportunity. Reprints (meaning the piece already appears elsewhere, like AO3, your blog, Tumblr, etc.) are welcome!
For all pieces:
- Star Trek characters, settings, timelines, etc, from other series are fine, but it must include something/someone from Discovery.
- Original Characters are welcome, as long as they’re Discovery-related.
- Don’t worry about canon, and any Discovery timeline is welcome.
- While thoughtful critique of Discovery is welcome, the intent of this zine is to celebrate the show.
For written pieces:
- Nothing over 3,000 words will be published, though if your piece is longer and available elsewhere or if you’re submitting one chapter of fanfic, we’ll provide a link to the rest of it.
- Content warnings will be included at the beginning of the piece, if applicable, though we won’t accept anything that includes sexual violence, violence toward animals or children, or “open door” physically intimate scenes.
For art and photographs:
- No depictions of sexual violence, violence toward animals or children, or nudity will be accepted.
- Please only send non-blurry, high-resolution images.
If you have any questions, please send an email to jordanlafordan [at] gmail.com, or send an ask!

As a Star Trek Discovery fan, I've listened to quite a lot of interviews with the cast. Every now and then there's an interview that really just stands out because there's such genuine warmth and transparency being exchanged between the interviewer and interviewee. The Syfy Sistas podcast did this interview with Sonequa Martin-Green and honestly, it's the best interview I've listened to in a while.
Regardless of where you fall on the love/dislike scale with DSC, this is a great interview for everyone to hear.
If you are a SciFi fan, a Star Trek fan, Star Trek Discovery fan, or just like SMG you MUST listen to this interview with Sonequa Martin-Green. It's so good!!

I love S4 Captain Burnham with my whole heart but there's something about S3 Burnham and her many casual looks and tactical suits and just the braids with the Disco blues that will forever have my heart

When I watched "The Red Angel" for the first time I genuinely thought Burnham was gonna die at the end. Which is really impressive for Disco season 2, because that's the second time it made me think it was gonna kill off one of its two most important characters.

The Vulcan Hello!
thanks @startrekdiscoverycelebration for having such lovely reminders all week.
This episode is GORGEOUS. The colors, the detail, the costumes...
I love you old blue uniforms.
Stray though...Michael spends more time in space in just a suit than really anyone else we see. Here, in the Red Angel suit, in season 2 when they get Reno...in season 4...
It's great how much she loves being out in space. I love that about her.
(I love Michael and Philippa and Saru and Keyla!!)
Captain Georgiou is fantastic.

Happy 6th birthday, Disco! We love you!
Thank you, everyone who participated in Celebrate Disco 2023! I wish Paramount was doing more to send Disco off in style, but this is about what I expected.
I hope you're wearing a DISCO shirt and rewatching "The Vulcan Hello" today - or doing whatever feels Disco to you (petting large cats, eating mushroom risotto, telling your found family how much they mean to you).

Ok, it's time for a gushy post:
Y'all, it's hard to put into words what this cast and crew mean to me. I've loved Star Trek my whole life, but the stories these folks tell through their characters has affected me in a way no other Trek has - I see myself reflected in so many of them:
- Detmer's PTSD journey
- Saru's life of fear then his freedom from it
- Michael's fight to find her identity after having to be someone else her entire life
- Tilly realizing her life's ambition isn't what she wants
- Paul being so capable but so helpless after big losses
- Hugh rediscovering and paving a new way for himself
- Book losing so much and working through huge grief
- Airiam living life to the fullest but on her terms
Tomorrow is #StarTrekDiscovery's 6th birthday, and we're closing in on its final season. I'm just so incredibly grateful for everything they've given us.
