I eased Malia into my bed so she could have something comfortable to sleep. I’m sure she hadn’t had a good nights sleep in a very long time. By the time I was done helping her in the bathroom, Stiles was asleep on my couch. I’m sure he is exhausted and had to get some sleep before tomorrow’s shift.
I made sure Malia was in bed comfortably before I turned to go to the dresser.
“Red?” Malia scruffly asked.
“Yes?” I quickly asked as I spun around to face her.
““Will you stay with me?”
“I’ll stay in here until you fall asleep.”
“No, I meant, will you sleep with me?” She asked.
I looked at her with a questioned look, “it will make me feel safe with you here.”
“Absolutely. I will do anything to make you feel safe,” I said, “let me just get changed so I can get into bed.” I said as I turned back around to the dresser.
I grabbed a tank top and a pair of shorts. I didn’t want to leave Malia alone so I changed there in the room. I don’t know what it was about her. I barely knew her but I made her feel safe and I feel safe with her. After all the years of heartbreak, I shouldn’t let my guard down this easily but it’s just something about those bright brown eyes makes it hard to tell her no.
The next morning, I woke up to an empty bed but yet, I don’t think she left. I shuffed into the kitchen to Malia cooking breakfast.
“Good morning.” I said as I was reaching a coffee cup from the cabinet.
“Good morning sunshine.” Malia said with a smile.
“When did you get up?” I asked pouring myself a cup of coffee.
“Only about an hour ago. I didn’t want to get up. You looked so peaceful.”
“You watched me sleep?” I asked with a chuckle.
“Only to make sure you were breathing. It’s a coping thing that I’ve done since my sisters and mom died.”
“I’m sorry about that. I didn’t mean to..”
“It’s fine, Red. Really is.” Malia said while grabbing my arm.
I looked at her with a half smile. I glaced at her hand on my arm because she held it on my arm for a little longer than just to calm me down. I looked back up at me and I met her eyes.
“Oh, I’m sorry.” She said quickly pulling her hand off my arm.
“It’s fine. I primise.” I said as I turned to the kitchen table to sit down.
She had the food all set out. As I was sitting down, she reached to fill her cup of coffee. We ate breakfast and just enjoyed each others company. I never had anyone over for breakfast in a while. Since Stiles became Chief at the police department, he is always working. I never would’ve thought it would have been her that I’d have over for breakfast. However, looking across the table at her felt right. Damn the person who would wake me from this dream.

Stiles pulled out his phone and called Malia. No answer. He tried calling her again. Again, no answer. He seemed a little worried that she didn’t answer. That could mean a couple things but thankfully, Stiles and I had the same thought.
“I think she might still be a werecoyote.” I said standing up.
“That’s a very good possibility. The last time she was a werecoyote like this was when Scott and I found her.” Stiles exclaimed.
“What do you mean?”
“She doesn’t usually stay a werecoyote for days at a time. It’s always for short periods of time. Being a werecoyote for multiple of days like this, it would be like you being a werewolf for days at a time. Something must be wrong.” Stiles said as he started to pace around my living room.
“I’m gonna go find her. Want to come with?” I asked as I grabbed my werewolf bag.
“I wouldn’t be able to keep up..”
“Just follow me in Roscoe.” I said bolting out the door in werewolf form.
Werewolves have a much different smell than coyotes do. I learned that from my run in with Derek many years ago. He would tell me that he wasn’t much of a teacher but I haven’t gotten into any trouble. I did learn from the best. Plus, Scott has been here to help with anything I had problems with. Scott makes a better Alpha than I would be. But of the Northeastern territory, I am basically the Alpha.
I took my time to try to pick up a scent. I am hitting dead ends everywhere I turned. I decided to howl out to see if I would get a response. In the far distance, I hear Stiles blare on the horn. That could mean one of two things: he found her or he was responding to my howl. If he blares the horn again, I would know he found her. So I continue to listen and smell for Malia.
He blares it again. So I take off as fast as I could towards him. I get about 20 feet away and I see him on his radio from work. I run up to him as I change back to my normal self.
“Whats wrong?” I asked as I get closer.
“I found her.” He said as he walks to the back seat.
I walk up to her wrapped up in a blanket laying down. Her breathing was shallow and quick. Her hair was a mess and there was blood all over Stiles.
“Please tell me that’s not your blood.” I said looking at him as I walked over to hiim.
“It’s hers. That’s why I’m calling back up. I tried to put pressure to the wound before I tried calling for you. I heard the howls, I thought you were under the same threat as she was.”
“I think we came to find her at the right time. Any longer, she could’ve been killed.”
“You’re right. Good call to go find her.” Stiles said as the ambulance pulled up.
Later that night, Stiles and I helped Malia into my apartment onto my couch. The last time I found her here, was the night Sheriff Stilinski shot at her. I wouldn’t forget the look she gave me once I walked into the apartment. I felt something that I hadn’t felt before towards a person and I felt it again tonight. Could it be the alpha coming out in me or was it that she looked at me like she felt safe and I knew I could protect her?
I grabbed a towel as Stiles propped her onto the couch.
“Malia, do you want a bath? I could help wash your hair if you need to. I also have some clean clothes for you to change into.” I suggested as I knelt down beside her.
She nodded as I looked up at Stiles.
“Do you need any help with that?” Stiles asked.
“Nah, I think I got her.” I said as I wrapped my arms around Malia’s torso to help her up.
She grunted as we took the first step. I slowly walked her to the bathroom as softly as I could. I sat her on the toilet as I started to run the warm water in the tub.
“The hot water would help relax the muscles. I’m sure you’ve had a rough few days.” I said as I watched the tub fill up with water.
“Why did you come looking for me?” Malia asked.
I signed as I looked up at her . My eyes looked into hers. “Stiles was worried sick about you and I knew you were in the area. The fact that he didn’t know you were in the area really worried him. Plus, I couldn’t let you be alone. I told you many weeks ago that this would be your safe place.” I said.
She placed her hand on my shoulder as I looked back at the tub. I turned off the water and then stood up. I gently eased her into the bath. She deeply exhaled as she slid into the hot water.
“I’m gonna go get you the clothes as you relax.” I said as she looked up at me and nodded.
I found a baggy tshirt and some basketball shorts. I found her some socks and other clothing that she might need. I’m sure we wear the same size. I walked back into the bathroom to Malia snapping her head towards me.
“It’s just me, you’re okay.” I said as I sat the clothes on the shelf.
“I’m sorry, I’m not used to this much kindness.” Malia said as she started to relax.
“You’re one of us here. You and I have something in common. So we have to stick together.” I said as I started to put shampoo in her hair.
“Like a pack?” She asked.
“Could a werecoyote and a werewolf have a pack together?” I asked.
“I wouldn’t see why not. You’re already treating me like one of your pack.” Malia said.
“It’s because you are.” I exclaimed as I gave her a heartwarming smile.

“There’s this look you get when I walk in, are you not glad to have someone in here?” Stiles asked me as he sat at the counter of the diner.
“It’s not you, Stiles. I promise. Well, it is. I’m happy to see you.” I said as I started to stammer.
“Uh, oh. What’s on your mind, Red?” Stiles asked as I placed a coffee cup half way filled with dark coffee.
“I get off in an hour, want to meet me back at my place then?”
“You got it, dog. I-I mean,” Stiles laughed off as he put his hand on the back of his neck as he looked at his coffee, “uh, thanks for the coffee.” He laid a five down on the counter and walked out.
I got off a few minutes early. That means I could quickly go to the apartment and clean up. I haven’t kept up with much since the full moon. If it wasn’t for Stiles here, I don’t know what I would do. He has been keeping up with his work life, his home life and then with me. I don’t know how he does it.
Stiles got there about 30 minutes after I did. I’m sure he had to do some paperwork there at the police station before he was able to leave. He’s a Chief. Which took a lot of hard work but he is very intelligent.
“You didn’t have to come straight here after work. You could’ve went home and change.” I said as I smerked.
“I would’ve if most of my clothes wasn’t here.” He said walking to his basket of clothes.
“So, there’s this girl.” I finally blurt out.
“How did I not know about this until now? Do you know how small of a town this is? I even work for the police department, I would’ve known by now.”
“That’s not the point. Well, maybe. However, I don’t even think she’s in the town records.”
“How did you meet someone outside of town? We’re always here.” Stiles said as he was pulling a shirt over his head.
“It was on a hunt. She was going after the same thing I did. We crossed each other tracking the bear that has been getting into everything.”
“Please, tell me she is like you or something because I feel like that’s what you’re setting me up for.” Stiles said coming back into the living room with a dr. pepper in his hand.
“Well, she’s not a werewolf, if that’s what you’re thinking.”
“Wait, is she a werecoyote by any chance?” Stiles asked as I snapped my head towards him.
“A what?”
“Werecoyote. Just like you but instead of a wolf, she is a coyote. She doesn’t need the moon to change. I met her while in Echo House.”
“So wait, there are people like me near here and no one ever told me?” I asked.
“I thought she was still in Beacon Hills. I would’ve loved to introduce you guys, but it never been the right time.”
“Well, I think now is the right time because I could’ve killed her.”
“Oh don’t worry about her. She would’ve put up a fight.”

Bad Company
“May I help you?” I asked as I had a perplexed expression across my face.
“Uhm, y-yeah. You said you could take me somewhere less dangerous.” The girl stuttered as she stumbled to her feet.
I snapped my head up to make eye contact, “You’re the wolf from the forest?” I asked as I took a step closer.
“Yes Ma’am.” She mumbled as she cowered and lowered her head.
“Here sit down. No need to be so afraid of me.” I reasoned as I eased her onto the couch.
“B-but the growl from the woods. You showed dominance.”
“I was only growling like that to show that I mean no harm. I am still trying to getting used to this life.” I explained.
“This life?” She asked as she looked at me and cocked her head.
“As you probably could tell, I’m a werewolf. That’s how I could growl so easily and how I wasn’t afraid of you. I tried to learn about my, well our kind, from the books my grandmother gave me.” I said as I nodded to my bookshelf.
The girl looked at my shelf for a minute. I assume she’s just looking at what I have.
“By the way, I’m Malia.” She said turning her head to me.
“I’m Ruby. You could call me Red.” I replied.
“Red, do you mind if I go through your books?”
“You should get some rest and something to eat before we dive into something like that. Let me look at your arm.” I suggested as I turned my body towards her.
I stood up to go get some peroxide to clean it and a small hand towel. I gently grabbed her arm as I poured some peroxide on the wound. I looked up at Malia as she wenced in pain.
“I know we could heal really easily, but this makes sure it doesn’t get infected during that process.” I explained.
Malia nodded as I stood up from the floor. When I did, there was a knock on the door. I quickly looked out the front windows and noticed Sheriff Stilinski’s police cruiser sitting there. I walked to the door and opened the door to Sheriif standing there and a young man standing there.
“Hey Red, I hope you don’t mind me having someone with me.” He said he looked irritated. “He figured since he has a police scanner, that he could always tag along.”
“No, sir. Not at all.” I replied as I welcomed them in.
As I shut the door, Malia stood up.
“Malia?” The young boy asked
“Stiles?” Malia asked.

Calm before the storm
I slowly stood up as I hear the growls get closer and closer to me. I growl lightly back as I was scared to turn around towards it. I was afraid of this animal jumping at me. I slowly glance down at my right hip as I lightly growl again. The animals growls turn into light whimpers. I turn around slowly to see myself nearly nose to nose to a werewolf. I look at it questionably as I relax my torso.
I reach out to the werewolf as the wolf started to cower. I noticed blood coming from its arm. I glace up to make eye contact and then back down at the wound. I stepped closer to take a better look at it. I noticed the wolf not moving away nor towards me.
“I could fix this up for you. I got to take you back with me. Don’t worry, I won’t take you to anywhere dangerous.” I said as I was moving fur away from the wound.
“Red! Move!” I heard Granny yell.
All the sudden I heard a gun shot blast through the air. As I dove for the ground, I quickly turned around to see if the werewolf got hurt as I noticed she was gone.
As I laid there in shock, I heard Granny come down the hill towards me.
“Are you hurt?” Sheriff Stilinski ask me as I looked up at him.
“You better be happy I’m a werewolf or you would have to deal with a dead girl and a missing one.” I said as I stood up.
“You could’ve been seriously injured Red! Manners girl!” Granny snapped at me.
“I had it taken care of. It was another wolf,” I said as I looked out to the forest ahead of me, “I’m sorry Sheriff, I shouldn’t have snapped. I’m in shock. more from the gun than anything.”
“Do you need an ambulance?” Stilinski asked me as he turned his body towards me.
“Nah, Melissa has more important things today than just a shaken up werewolf.” I said as I dusted myself off.
“Alright. I’m sorry for that Red, I just happy you’re okay.” Sheriff said as he grabbed my arm.
“Granny, I’m gonna go back to the apartment. This has been kinda overwhelming.” I said as I started to climb the hill.
“I’ll be by after my shift to check on you.” Sheriff told me as he started to help granny up the hill.
“That will be fine. Just make sure you make less of a frightening entrance.” I said with a smirk.
As soon as I got out of sight from Granny and Sheriff, I darted back into the forest. I had to find that werewolf. Anything to try to help her. I just have to find her. Something in me told me that I had to be the one to find her. If anyone else, they probably wouldn’t want to help her like I do.
I tried to smell for blood, her scent, gun powder. Nothing is coming back. I can’t let her down like this. I can’t. But I know that there might be no saving her at this point.
I open the front door of my apartment as I breathe a fresh breath of safety and disappointment. I can’t believe I had no luck finding her. I might as well get some rest because Sheriff would be here soon and I am running on little energy. I look up to my couch as I see a blue eyed girl sitting there with a rag there on her arm staring back at me.

Judas of my mind
I wipe the sweat off my brow with my forearm. I stand up and look around my tiny one bedroom apartment. I am astonished how rearranging the furniture can completely change the look of a room. I am impressed at myself that I was able to do that all on my own and in record time. I still have time to run to the diner to check on Granny and see if she needs any help.
I walk into the Diner in time for it to slow down. Granny walked out from the back as I sat down at the bar. She sat a plate of food infront of me and a soda.
“Eat up kiddo, you will need it.” She insisted.
“I’ll need it? What do you mean, Granny?” I asked anxiously.
“Yeah, after you eat, I’ll explain. But you better eat it slowly. No need to rush through this like you are in prison or something.” Granny explained as she started to wash dishes.
I ate as I watched Granny clean up the diner. We talked about the day’s shift and all what I did to the apartment. She asked me about the books that she gave me a few months ago. I had to remind Granny that if I wasn’t at the diner, I was in those books.
“Granny, what did you need to tell me? I’m done eating.” I said as I put my plates in the sink.
“Come with me child.” Granny said as she walked to the back of the diner and out of the back door.
I followed her to the brush at the edge of the diner property. I am so perplexed on why Granny would have me back here.
“There were some dogs out here sometime this morning before the diner opened digging at the the bottom of the slope here.” Granny explained.
“Granny, not all dogs are werewolves.” I said as I smiled.
“Well, yeah you’re right. But there was a werewolf among them. That’s how lone wolves hide from others.”
“You’re not gonna make me try to talk to the dogs? I can’t exactly do that.”
“Quit being a smartass and hear me out. Now Sheriff Stilinski came in this morning and he told me about a missing child. He asked if I could hang the poster on the front door. Which Stilinski always helped our family so I was good with any help.”
“Did Stilinski say anything when you told him about this down here?” I asked as I looked down the slope.
“Well, he believes that it was just dogs getting at the trash from last night’s storm.”
“Would you want me to go down there and see if i could find anything?” I asked.
“That is what I was hoping.” Granny said as she bit her bottom lip.
I inhaled deeply and started my trek down the slope. The grass and surroundings were still wet from last night’s storm. It was hard to keep my footing as I was trying to move branches out of my way. I finally made it to the spot Granny was talking about as I started to sniff the area. I grazed the area to see if anything popped out at me before I searched harder.
“Do you see or smell anything Red?” Granny called down to me.
“Nothing at the mome-”
All of the sudden I hear this growl from behind me.
“Red!” I hear granny yell.

Come take me from this cage
The warm orange and blues colors brighten up the tiny one bedroom apartment that I live in. The aroma from the freshly brewed coffee blows towards my perplexed expression as I gaze from my kitchen window.
Today is a new day. Months have gone by since I last heard from Derek or tried to reached out to him. My life has gone back to my new normal. I have came to terms with the fact that I am a werewolf. I’m trying different ways to not change into the beast of the night. It’s always a challenge but I am trying to manage.
I thought I needed him there to try to cope with all of it. With the books that Granny gave me has helped with coping with it on my own. She has been a real help. Granted she isn’t a werewolf, but she knows enough to help me with what I am. I wish there was a class with other werewolves.
I turn around to face the rest of the apartment. I eyeball where everything has been settled into place. I pull my cup up to my pressed lips. This place needs a change. Figured this place has been set up like this since I moved in, I have changed in the year and a half that I been here. So why not my apartment?
I finish cleaning the kitchen from the breakfast mess. I grab my bandana and tie up my hair as I look around the living room. It’s time for a change.

Distance inside me
It has been a long couple months. I chased the only familiarity I’ve ever known in Derek. I was too afraid of being hurt again. I was pulling him back into it and I knew it. I knew I was pulling him too close to me. And I was scared. I don’t know where he went to. It has been months without a single word.
“Derek, it’s Ruby. Again. I’m just calling to apologize. Please call me back. You know where I’m at. It’s not like I went anywhere.” I said as I left a voicemail on his phone.
I slid the phone down onto the bed as I packed a light bag. I grabbed my book and blanket. I was heading back to my comfort place by the lake. The first place I ever seen Derek. Even though Derek wasn’t there, I still found refuge there. I can’t say I felt isolated there or alienated there. It is more liberated to be there for me. I was always at peace there. It’s a place to drain all the bad and inhale all the good.
It’s kinda like he was always with me.
I’m a lone wolf. What is happening to me? I asked myself as slid down the tree line towards the water. I shouldn’t feel this way. Especially now, after months of doing my own thing. I shouldn’t think I would need someone. I didn’t think i would want a pack. This isn’t who I am. Needing this isn’t me. I am a lone wolf. Ruby get ahold of yourself!
It’s happening. I have to do this.

I dug through the box granny gave me. It had books about werewolves and photo albums. I decided to grab all the photo albums and set them aside so I could look them first. I barely remember my mother but what I do remember of her, she was a hard working woman who cared deeply about her family. I wasn’t old enough to really understand whatever happened to her. I just remember she went missing and Granny being visibly upset. Granny really stepped up and took care of me the best she could.
I remember Talia would come and spend summers here with her kids. They were like family. Mom always referred them as my aunt and cousins. I never knew that they weren’t actually related until a few hours ago. I wonder if Laura, Derek, and Cora made it out of the house that killed our mothers. I have had them on the back of my mind since mom passed. There was no way to get a hold of them.
I put my headphones in and turn it to my favorite song as I put my left hand on one of the photo albums. It wasn’t even the closest photo album to me. Something must of drawn me to it. I take a look at it and noticed the dust covering it. In one swift blow, I dust it off. I take a look at the front cover and it was the photo album of the last summer mom was around. Well, alive.
I open it up and the first couple photos were of mom and Talia. I licked my lips and bit my bottom lip as I just stared at mom. Part of me misses her. She’s my mom. I mean, Granny does a wonderful job but there is nothing like mom. A smile spread across my face to see her happy in the photos. I rubbed my fingers across the photos trying to feel my mom.
I flipped the page and saw there were photos of us “cousins”. I don’t even remember what Laura, Cora, or Derek looked like. I looked at the photo of us all in arms with one another. Smiles on our faces. The very next photo was of Derek and I. I took a quick look at Derek and knew I recognized him. I know I know, but other than the shaggy hair, he was the guy I seen the other day.
I grabbed a bag, put my jacket and shoes on as quickly as I could. I grabbed the photo and took off out the door. I had to go find him. Where do I even start? I took off to the woods where I first saw him. That had to be a great start right? But do i even remember where it was? I started for the water and then I will go from there. I sniffed the air around me and figured out where the water was. Much closer than I thought.
“Alright Red, think, where did you see him?” I asked myself.
I started off in what I thought was the right direction. After an hour or two of what it seemed like hiking, still nothing. I tried howling for him, I tried calling for him. Everything I could think of. I tried sniffing for him but I couldn’t pick up a strong enough scent. He has been here recently but I couldn’t find him. All I could smell is the dirt and the trees. The smell of grass and dirt filled my nostrils.
“Derek where could you be?” I asked as I looked around the trees.
I took off for the Diner. I looked at my watch and the lunch rush just finished up. I’ll have to finish the search for Derek later. I have to check on Granny. I always help her during the rushes but since she told me to take the day off, it must’ve been hard for her.
I got to the diner a few minutes later. When I walked in, the look of relief and worry came over Granny.
“What are you doing here, gal?” Granny asked as I was hanging up my jacket up.
“Well, I wanted to come see how you were doing.” I said as I grab an apron.
“I told you to stay at home and rest. I’ll be fine.” Granny said as she swung the broom at my feet.
“I feel fine Granny. I promise.”
“Alright you could hang out here but you’re off the clock.” Granny said as she took some plates of food out.
I sat down in the corner booth facing the diner with a cup of coffee in front of me. I stared at the photo just thinking. The thoughts of where Derek could be kept running through my mind. This town is small enough to know where everyone could be. Derek seems like the kind of guy to either not want to be found or I just suck at looking.
I glanced up at the front door when I heard the bell ring. In walked a guy with shaggy hair in a leather jacket. I looked at the photo and I looked back at this fellow that just walked in. That’s him. Derek Hale.

They say I’m a dangerous man
I sunk into my recliner as smoothly as honey. The shower was well needed. I think washing off the mud out of my hair took 2 more washes than what it should have taken it normally. My body felt like putty as the hot water hit my skin. But thankfully, I have nothing to do. I just want to sit here for the rest of my life because of how exhausted I am.
Granny woke me up the next morning with the smell of bacon and sausage. Granny is archaic. However, I don’t see some of the things she does. If she is used of going left, I might have found an easier path to go right. I shall say it again, Granny is archaic.
“You’re up early. I just started breakfast.” Granny said glancing up at me.
“Wonderful sense of smell, I guess.” I said mid-yawn.
“So where were you two nights ago and most of yesterday?’ Granny asked calmly.
“Well, I have a confession to make to you.“ I said as I walked closer to Granny as I raised my shirt up.
“Oh goodness gracious me, Ruby!” Granny exclaimed as she studied it.
“I was attacked while picking apples for the diner. However, by the time I got to the pond, it was fully healed. I don’t know how. I also broke my ankle as I was headed to the water; that also was healed by the time I was able to put weight on it.”
“Do you know what attacked you?”
“Not at all. I mean there was an interaction with a wolf that had me terrified.”
“Honey, we need to have a talk after breakfast. I think I know what is going on.”
“Oh, do you need any help?”
Granny doesn’t usually like help in the kitchen. Remember me saying how she is archaic? This is one of those times. While I am willing to go buy things from the store, Granny is more willing to grow everything herself. Breakfast tasted as if I haven’t ate my entire life. The flavor was mouthwatering and rich. I must’ve inhaled everything on my plate.
The fact that granny had to talk to me was put on the back of my mind as I ate. The meal was extraordinary. As I was cleaning the kitchen, Granny brought me into the living room.
“Sit down my sweet dear.” She said as she had a book in her arms.
“Yes, ma’am.” I said as I sat down close to her.
“I was waiting until the time was right before I told you this but I believe now is the perfect time to talk to you,” she started as I got a curious look on my face and she laid opened the book on her lap, “this photo is of your mother with her best friend Talia.” Granny stopped as she bit her lip.
“What happened to mom and Talia, Granny?” I asked as Granny cocked her eyebrow as she glanced at me.
“House fire. Your mom just had to go there for information from Talia. Unknowing to her, it was like a battleground. Same thing that happened to you two nights ago, also happened to your mother.”
“Wait, you said it was like a battleground. What kind of battleground?” I asked.
“Now there is one thing Talia taught your mother before the fire happened and your mom lived it. It was “We’re predators, but we don’t have to be killers” and that is what they all believed. The word goes that a woman named Kate did it. However, no one really knows. There has been a number of suspects but The Argent’s have always had a vendetta against Talia’s family. Hunters versus wolves type of thing.”
“So you are saying that mom and Talia is a wolf?”
“Werewolves. Everything that you are feeling and experiencing right now is what your mother went through. However, I can’t be much help. I never went through what you gals went through. I wish I could be more help. I just have these books that I got from the library.” Granny said as she handed me the book and got up and walked to a box that was in the corner collecting dust.
“You have all of that?”
“It is just the basic stuff. I tried to find anything that I could just to be able to learn about your mom. I knew it was just a matter of time before you needed it. Take it.”
“Wow, thank you Granny. This means a lot.” I said as I got up and wrapped my arms around her.
“It’s not a problem, dear. Just relax today. You need it. I have to get myself to the diner.” Granny said as she checked the time.

The beginning
What have I become? What have I done? It was only just nighttime. Now I could see the dark clouds covering the light. Where did this blood come from? Oh god, the pain. Something has changed. I can feel it in my bones. Something has happened. I cannot let granny know about this. She will lose her mind if she knew that I stayed out all night without even a word of where I was going. I know I am an adult but it is respectful to at least tell her what is going on. This time it’s worse. I’m injured.
The smell of the damp leaves, mud caking my shirt and my hands, the smell of blood is all becoming overwhelming. It is like they have intensified. I look around for any sort of sign of what could’ve happened. The wind has not helped with my sense of smell any since it is all smelling like wet leaves, tree bark, and rain. I lift my shirt to where I am bleeding. Dry blood and mud. Just great, it’s gonna get infected if I don’t go wash off. There has to be a water source near here. There has to be.
I look around. I could smell water close by. I take off running. Mid-stride, I end up catching my foot on a tree root and breaking my ankle. I scream in pain. However, it came more like a howl. My mind went to the howl instead of my broken limb. Was that me? How could that have been me?
I look up and there was a wolf about 20 feet from me. As he was walking towards me, I was trying to push myself backwards. With each step, the wolf was starting to stand. Are my eyes lying to me? Wolves can’t stand. They can’t walk on two feet could they? I stop and just watch him.
“Please, don’t hurt me. I don’t know what is wrong. Please, don’t.” I whine as I start to put my right arm in front of my face shielding it.
He walked right up to me without saying a word. He leaned down and extended his hand. I look at him with a questioned look.
“Stand up. Here grab my hand.” He said with a charming tone of voice.
“I can’t. My ankle is broken.”
“Trust me, I could help.” He said glancing down at it while still extending his hand.
I reach up to grab his hand. I don’t know what made me trust him right there. I just watched him transform from a wolf. Now he is a grungy looking man. Shaggy brown hair, heavy five o’clock shadow, smells like a wet dog. Without thinking of it, I put my foot down.
I look down and looked at him. However, he wasn’t anywhere to be found. What just happened? My ankle isn’t hurting. Did any of that just happen? Who was he and how did he know what I was?
I put it in the back of my mind as I turned around to make my way down to the water. I made sure to look where I was stepping. I finally made it to the water after it seemed like only a couple minutes. Why haven’t I been here before? It’s beautiful here. The way the trees are glaced with the sunlight. Granted, with the overcast, it is still beautiful. I took my shirt off to wash away the caked on mud and blood. As I washed it, just bare skin was there. Was that even my blood that was on me? I mean it has to, right? I mean I had a scar where the blood was. But that is about it.
What is happening to me? With the smell, the blood, with the wolf, something has to be all linked. I don’t know what to think of right now. I better get home before this thunderstorm hits. I’m sure granny would be happy to see that I am safe.

Researching
Derek went to see his pack. I’m sure to tell them that I have arrived. Also, to tell them of the danger we are up against. However, he only went with the information I had given to him. He has left me here in his loft to search his books to get a head start on trying to find anything about this new threat out.
He has books upon books of information. Werewolves: A History of the Lycanthrope, Tricks of the Raven, Berserkers and Where to find them, just to name a few. One of these walls of books has to have something that I am looking for. But where do I start?
Let’s start with their appearance. Their eyes had this orange tint almost like a gold color. The fact that they also had to shower multiple times a day when they would come into the restaurant. I don’t know if they just wanted to always be clean but it seemed a little bit strange to me.
I grabbed two books from Derek’s shelves that might point me in the right direction. I sat them down on his desk as I grabbed a notebook and a pen. I might need to take notes just so I could show Derek of anything I find.
I open the first book Night Elves: By the blood of the Druid. I read that mainly males have golden eyes. Typically, night elves are honorable and just, but very distrusting of the “lesser races” of the world. There was a war between Night Elves and Worgens centuries ago. However, many of the worgens split off and came here to make the werewolves.
However, when I opened up the Werewolves: A History of the Lycanthrope, there was nothing said about werewolves splitting off from Worgens. I’ll have to run it by Derek once he gets back with his pack.

“I absolutely have a feeling that they do know because of the way they smelled the air as I was there helping them with food. When they realized that I was standing there, that’s when their eyes changed. It was like. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like they just knew.” I said as I rubbed the back of my neck.
I watched Derek study the photo like there was something about them that we can’t place. I don’t know exactly who or what we are messing with. I just hope Derek has an idea.
“Well, nothing out of the real ordinary. I mean it’s their eyes, they obviously have a heighten sense of smell. Their smell was like if they showered a lot. They would come in multiple times a day and each time it was like if they just showered. So that could mean they are hiding their scent. At least that is what happened after that first day with their eyes.” I said with one of my arms crossed around my torso.
I got here as soon as I could. I didn’t want to get here with little information. Even though, it does feel like I already have nothing to go on. I knew how Derek would want as much information as he could get his hands on. I had a feeling that they were gonna come after me as soon as they knew I took off.
When I heard they knew of Derek and Beacon Hills, I panicked. I had to come to warn Derek. Once they know that not only do I have back up, but also Derek, it’s gonna catch them off guard. At least that is what I am hoping for.
So many questions
It took me nearly 4 days to travel the 3205 miles from StoryBrooke, Maine to Beacon Hills, California. I needed to drive so I’d be able to get where I needed to go, which happens to be Derek’s front door. I’ve always heard stories about needing to go to Derek with these types of problems. I knew I could run to him. Well, he never told me that I could go to him but I’ve heard around.
Derek isn’t the best help with this. However, he has dealt with this most of his life. He must understand what to do. I’m a werewolf. Everyone knows it. Those times where it’s a super moon are the hardest nights of my life. Am I the only one that doesn’t know how to fully control it? Does Derek even know how to control it? There are nights where I don’t even know how I end up where I come to.
Also, there must be some rules with this. I’ve had a couple of encounters with ones like me. But that’s only a gut feeling like we could smell one another. You just know. Do they know that I am a lone wolf? Derek has to help me know how to not be a lone wolf when there isn’t anyone like me where I am from. What is keeping him from killing me when he finds out? We will have to wait and see.

Derek’s stance and body language meant one or two things: either he was intrigued or he is as threatened as I was. Either way, I know that I couldn’t do this alone. I’ve always heard about Derek. I knew his family. Well, only bits and pieces. You hear quite a lot from being a waitress in a small diner in a small town.
“Yes, a threat. I don’t know much about them. They would come into the diner a lot. They’ve mentioned this town a lot and I knew you were from here so I had to hurry down. I didn’t know if they knew what I was. They gave this vibe that they did,” I said glancing over at the window, “I’m sorry if I am rambling but you were my first thought. Something told me to come seek help.” I said glancing at Derek’s face and then quickly looking down.
I turned to my bag that I sat down and grabbed a photo out of the book that I was carrying it in. I turned to Derek in a hurry and handed him the photo.
“I took a photo of them as they were coming into the diner. They came in often enough for me to know what they looked like and what they were driving. Now that’s not the weird part of it,” I said as I crossed my arms, “they had this smell to them. One like what we have. Their eyes also had this orange tint to it.”
I looked around to Derek’s books. He has to know what it means. His books was one of the few things in his apartment that wasn’t dusty. That showed me that he studied a lot. Which isn’t a bad a thing. That’s when I realized I came to the right place. For years now, Derek and his family have been on the back of my mind. I never thought I would actually be here. He looks so much like his mother.
My train of thought was all over the place. Is it the trip doing this to me? Does the fact that I have so many questions doing this to me? I have to focus.

“Derek, you know exactly why I am here,” I said as I walked through the dusty hallway, “and it’s not to be a maid.”
I noticed Derek was agitated at the fact that I was here. The growls under his breath wasn’t helping my cause. Obviously, he didn’t know how to control his temper.
“Your people skills are just wonderful. Has anyone told you that? Just because you were burned with helping people, doesn’t mean that I don’t come peace. Which I’m sure you’re used on hearing.” I said as I was glancing at his books as I could see his stance in the corner of my eye.
“There is a threat coming after me. I am sure that they have been tracking every move. That’s why I decided to come see you. I need you and your packs help. Do you even have a pack anymore?”

Well, since I am your business, let’s get one thing straight. You do not intimidate me, nor do you scare me.
So let’s cut the chase. I’m here. You’re the reason why I am here. I need your help. You obviously know what I am. And you are too alone to survive. Both of us are in this boat.
Casual Encounters
You should be.
