somebody needs to pry jing yuan and yanqing from me

jing yuan finding baby yanqing in the woods at the start of winter, his parents already mostly dead, far beyond saving. a small, precious baby boy wrapped up in scraps of wool blankets. taking that baby, that new son of his and tucking him into his shirt, under his chest-plate against his skin. keeping the child warm just long enough for the sun to rise again, just long enough for yanqing to have a chance at life. to bring him back to the alliance, to the luofu. smuggling the child onto his ship, not offering any explanation for his newly acquired son when he gets back.

spending the first few weeks barely sleeping at all, taking care of his duties in the day and his child at night, slowly watching his son grow, the boys every little trait reminding him of those he's loved and lost, of his hopes and dreams that had to be discarded in favour of a better future, watching the years go by, realizing too late that this child, this son of his dreams to share his work, to lighten his burdens. starting training yanqing when he's five, later then would be expected for a child from a family like jing yuans, but there is time, there will always be time, there will never be time to change whats been done already.

pulling out the sword that his master trained him with from the safe in which he keeps his heart, the belongings, no, keepsakes of those he's loved and lost. hoping that maybe, these tarnished memories of his may once again shine bright with his son. he starts training yanqing, spending yanqings formative years like he did with his master, studying, training and most importantly living.

the first excursion he takes his son on is terrifying, not because its particularly difficult, or special. but because his son is ten now, old enough to go with him off of the luofu, old enough for a taste of danger and freedom that he remembers first experiencing. although for jing yuan thats the first time he truly feels old, watching his son climb amongst the trees, playing as much as he is following jing yuans instructions, fast in body and soul, finally, he slows, making his way back to his master, no, father, and relaxing into his arms.

before him jing yuan find a child in his arms, not a weapon of the alliances war.

so uhhh, thats a lot of attention i did not expect to get. i promise i'm working on more of this au since it absolutely has my heart but it might be a bit, expect some jing yuan outfit headcanons/designs soon enough though. (combing traditional Chinese clothing with a few other inspirations alongside his canon outfit, i think)

also maybe the little bit of the fic that i've written last December? since tumblr seems to be half decent for posting big writing blocks, i plan to work on more of that au because i have SO many thoughts i just unfortunately absolutely lack a brain and this year has been hectic to say the least :,)
