Thank you all for the kind comments in my last post. I'm sad to hear that many of you experienced the same pain from your own family as well. It's hard, but I hope we'll all be able to heal as much as we can, and still find beauty in this world.
Here's one of my old paintings that always made me happy. I recently returned from visiting the in-laws in Europe and the architecture there has been such an inspiration for new art. I'm excited to share those soon! <3

Is there a canon reason to why Leon joined the police force?
Yep! According to 2R, he wanted to wanted to be able to protect people. He was naive and thought that's what cops do, but in reality they only "protect and serve" and the wealthy. The specific scene happens when they go to the gun shop and happen upon Kendo and his daughter Emma, who's infected. Kendo holds Leon at gunpoint and then later angrily yells at Leon because he's a cop and is "supposed to know something," but Leon doesn't have the answer, and he believes Ada does. So, once Kendo leaves to go "put his daughter to bed," Leon is frustrated and explains to her that helping people is why he became a cop.
Similarly, in the original version of RE2, he states that his family was involved in "heinous crimes" and subsequently killed, leaving him the only survivor, so he became a cop to "save as many people as he could."

I love ID dearly and it's genuinely one of my favorite entries in this series, but I am cackling at the lack of explanation for some things, or more specifically, some one. And yes, I'm a proud Patrick stan. There's like 5 of us that actually remember who he is but I think he's great.
So, from the jump, it's sorta implied that Ryan doesn't particularly like Leon (for whatever reason) as he tells Graham that even though Leon isn't here, these three are the most qualified-- which is a bit funny since we find out later on that Patrick had seemingly never encountered BOWs before... so I guess Ryan just really didn't like Leon. The phrasing is interesting because even though we don't get to hear his full sentence because he's cut off, the whole opening of the show is people debating Leon's qualifications to be there. Patrick shit talks him, Shen Mei and Jason defend Leon's honor, and then Ryan goes out his way to essentially say the three of them are more qualified than Leon, so it doesn't matter than he's not there.
And this isn't really a rarity in the franchise either. I've talked about it before, so not to sound like a broken record, but I do find it interesting that Leon's qualifications seem to be called into question even though he literally saved the president's daughter two years prior (1 year prior in Degeneration). Krauser does it specifically to get under Leon's skin, calling him "weak" and "too soft" while simultaneously calling him pretty, so it could be argued that that's potentially tied to his appearance. And it outright is with Greg (from Degeneration), who goes as far as to challenge Leon because he doesn't "look military."
But, back to Patrick and Leon. They've seemingly never met before, or at least that's my assumption since "as in the guy who saved the president's daughter?" doesn't sound like something someone would say if they personally knew the guy being discussed, but I digress. And that's the part that's funny to me because when did Leon have the time to get Patrick's personal cell phone number? (I like to think it's because they hooked up after the show but I also have a theory that Leon didn't trust Jason and Shen Mei from the jump so Leon took it upon himself to bond with Patrick just in case).
The "Of course, I trust you" is also taking me out because I so badly want to know what they said behind the scenes. Patrick went from thinking Leon was "just lucky" to Leon getting his number and Patrick talking about how he trusts him. And while Leon did save Patrick's life and I'm sure that had a profound impact on him, they still had to have talked at some point.
