The Dick-Donna-Roy triangle is so so so important, but the problem is Dick and Donna are always picking each other, and Roy knows this, and it taps into Roy's deepest insecurity, this bone deep belief he has that no one will ever choose him first, he's always the second choice. Ollie chose Hal and a road trip across the universe over Roy, Connor becomes Green Arrow and Roy's not even in consideration. Dick will choose Donna, Donna will choose Dick.

It feeds into his belief that there's something wrong with him, why is he only chosen as a backup, why does everyone leave him for someone/something else.
