There is so much more I could say about this, but there is not enough room. Remember to check with reality rather than believing conspiracy theories promoted, supported, and funded by white nationalist hate groups.
Missouri is proposing 20% of the nation’s anti-trans legislation this session. Gender-affirming care for young folks is on the edge of being criminalized (so much love to trans friends in states where that has already happened).
Please keep up with the anti-trans legislation in your state and combat it. There are lives at stake.
Transphobes do not touch this post.
Image ID: a 10-image cartoon comic featuring Joey, a boy with short hair.
Image 1: Joey, upset, gesticulates towards an open laptop. Text reads: The reality of St. Louis trans kids. Last week, a former (non-medical) employee of Washington University’s Pediatric Transgender Center was featured in a viral article about how the clinic was “rushing” kids into medical care and “mutilating” us. Every single thing she said was a lie, but the media loves it. Footnote reads: I wouldn’t give any more attention to this, but it is immediately endangering the lives of trans people. Missouri has launched a state investigation and is actively attempting to criminalize gender-affirming care based on conspiracy theories.
Image 2: Joey points to a map of the United States where Missouri is singled out, and a map of Missouri where St. Louis is indicated with a star. The text reads: The Transgender Center, located in St. Louis, Missouri, has been the target of hateful attacks from the far-right state legislature for years. It is part of Washington University Hospital, a branch of a prestigious private university.
Image 3: A younger Joey injects his T shot in his leg while someone takes a photo. Text reads: I can tell you that everything in the article is false because I received care at the Transgender Center beginning at 16 years old. My medical transition has brought me nothing but joy. What a gift it is to be trans!
Image 4: A younger Joey sits on a couch and stims with a tangle fidget toy. Text reads: No one is “rushed”. I sat on many waitlists, had to have 6 months of specialized gender therapy and a diagnosis of gender dysphoria before even being referred to the Center, and I was denied as “not ready enough” by an endocrinologist the first time I finally got an appointment. Footnote reads: If you’re curious about what it looks like to be a trans kid, I did another piece on that! Check out tinyurl.com/transkidscomictumblr.
Image 5: A colorful map of the United States shows how many states have a Negative Gender Identity Policy Tally and how many states have criminalized gender affirming care. Joey holds a credit card. Text reads: St. Louis’ Pediatric Transgender Center is the only one in the region, meaning the waitlists are extremely long. Plus, no one in the only industrialized country without free healthcare is getting medical care for fun. Many American trans folks have to fundraise for our care.
Image 6: Joey, distressed, sits on a couch while talking on the phone. The person on the other end says: “That’s me!” Text reads: This former employee spoke about specific cases, and patients have been able to identify themselves. She shared our private medical info and called us horrifying.
Image 7: This is split into two panels. In the first, Joey holds up a box of condoms and a packet of birth control pills. Texts reads: She especially hated trans men such as myself, saying that trans ideology was destroying “girls”. She lamented about hormones making us “sterile”, which is a complete lie. We trans mascs have to actively prevent pregnancy. In panel two stands a doctor. Text reads: Every time I had an appointment at the Center, doctors reminded me: Remember: testosterone is not a contraceptive! Footnote reads: The wonderful Erin Reed wrote a breakdown debunking all the lies in the article. See tinyurl.com/erinreedmissouri.
Image 8: Joey, masked, sits at a circular table with his brother, an unmasked boy with fluffy short hair. Joey’s brother is showing him his phone. Text reads: Major newspapers continue to platform these complete lies because they bring in engagement and money. The Washington Post tracked down my little brother’s personal cell phone number to try to get in contact with our mom – the president of an organization supporting trans kids in Missouri. Freaky, right?
Image 9: Joey, looking disgusted, leans against a door frame while talking on a cell phone. Text reads: But no one wants to talk with me, the adult who medically transitioned at this clinic as a minor and has not “desisted” in six years. The Washington Post reporter, who didn’t know anything about trans people, talked with me for 20 minutes and used a sentence of mine in an article about “both sides of the debate”. She didn’t mention that this former employee is being legally represented by a recognized anti-LGBT hate group, nor that all of her claims are unsupported by reality or science.
Image 10: Joey looks angry and gesticulates. Beside the drawing are two photos of Joey, one of him happy in front of a trans flag, and the other of him drawing up testosterone to take his first T shot. Text reads: There is no debate. There are trans people, and there are people who want us dead. There is truth and there are conspiracy theories. Where is my viral article in a major paper?

#better off Ted
love the idea of someone being strapped to a table in a mad scientist's lab, about to undergo horrible and unethical experiments and they look off to the side and there's just some guy sitting on a couch eating cheese snacks and watching tv and they turn to the mad scientist like "who the fuck is that"
"oh that's ted, he's the control group"

2017 Top 20 TV Shows
Once again, the only thing I regularly use Tumblr for.
1. Halt and Catch Fire (2 years in a row!)
2. Better Call Saul
3. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
4. The Leftovers
5. Fargo
6. The Middle
7. Orphan Black
8. Twin Peaks: The Return
9. Jane the Virgin
10. Mom
11. The Good Place
12. The Deuce
13. The Americans
14. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
15. Legion
16. Call the Midwife
17. GLOW
18. Playing House
19. Big Little Lies
20. Mr. Robot
Dropouts from last year that were still good, just didn't quite make it this year: Broad City, Great British Bake-Off, Killjoys, Search Party
Dropouts from last year that slipped a bit: Game of Thrones, You're The Worst.
I think I still have The Americans & Fargo higher than a lot of people. The Americans had some issues, but it still mostly worked for me. Then again, I was mordantly amused by Philip's terrible undercover dating relationship, so maybe I'm weird.
Fargo I still thought was pretty great. Nikki Swango was an excellent character, and the Gloria/Winnie storyline was my favorite non-romantic relationship all year. (I guess Donna & Cameron are a close #2.)

It may not have always been monthly, especially early on. And their production gets backed up by summer conventions. But the numbering is accurate.
I don't intend this as an "um, actually" because I believe Chris has what he feels are valid reasons for this omission, I'm just giving him an opportunity to express them. Anyway, regarding the longest continuous monthly comic book, Knights of the Dinner Table Magazine is up to issue 243.
Huh! I didn’t think KODT was monthly – or that high, actually.

How I would handle Kara/Lena if I were writing Supergirl:
Some alien or something shows up to try and kill Lena AGAIN, and Kara has no choice but to throw herself in front of the laser blast/whatever and reveal her identity.
Lena gets all shocked at the revelation of Kara's identity, winding up with "I thought you were my friend! How could you hide this from me?"
Kara's flustered, instinctual response "I though you knew! You're really smart!"
After a moment's pause, Lena grins. "Yeah, I knew. Sorry for giving you a hard time, but I couldn't resist."
(And then they go to lunch as friends, or they make out, or whatever. That's not really the point.)

5. Search Party
6. Better Call Saul
7. Jane the Virgin
8. Game of Thrones

Notes:
- I still have 3 episodes to go on one of these shows, but I don't think it would change the ranking much.
- There might be some recency bias in how high Search Party is ranked, but who cares?
- Of course, the top 2 network comedies are now in the same timeslot. And TBH, at that time I'm actually watching The Flash because spoilers/serialization.
- Currently airing shows that dropped off from last year: The 100 and Unreal, for obvious reasons, and Scandal.

Chiune Sugihara. This man saved 6000 Jews. He was a Japanese diplomat in Lithuania. When the Nazis began rounding up Jews, Sugihara risked his life to start issuing unlawful travel visas to Jews. He hand-wrote them 18 hrs a day. The day his consulate closed and he had to evacuate, witnesses claim he was STILL writing visas and throwing from the train as he pulled away. He saved 6000 lives. The world didn’t know what he’d done until Israel honored him in 1985, the year before he died.

Let’s help those in need in Aleppo right now.
On December 12th, over 100,000 people in East Aleppo were trapped in a 5 square kilometer range as they were being bombarded by airstrikes from Russia and the Syrian government to attempt to overtake the rebel-held area. “The Russia-backed ground offensive, which began on November 26, followed an intensive aerial bombing campaign that knocked out most of the medical facilities, targeted civil defence and municipal vehicles and blocked roads with rubble.” The world is sitting and watching a genocide happen before their eyes as civilians are being massacred. Families posted on various social media platforms to say their final goodbyes.

Reblogging myself for the actual Gilmore Girls reunion.
Also, while I still don't have a good fit for Jess, I guess you could reference "The Whispers" and have him show up with a blond wife and an inexplicably red-headed son.
Great SNL Sketches That Will Never Exist: The Gilmore Girls Reunion Movie
OK, so the concept for this is way too niche for SNL to ever actually use. But I still think you could make a good sketch out of it.
The general idea is that they’re doing a Gilmore Girls reunion movie, but since Melissa McCarthy is now the biggest star, Sookie’s the central character. And instead of being a relatively nice (if occasionally obsessive) neat chef, she’s now the much more over-the-top type of character that MM is usually playing these days. Add in a parody of hyperfast Amy Sherman-Palladino dialogue, and you’re off.
Although you could go plenty of different ways with it, here’s a concept I came up with, which plays off the fact that all of Rory’s boyfriends wound up getting their own TV shows:
First off, between scenes we keep cutting to the diner where Lorelai and Luke are having an escalating argument about what kinds of food you need for the perfect breakfast.
- Rory and Logan come back to the Inn for a visit, because Lorelai’s worried that Sookie’s been acting strange lately and wants Rory’s advice. Logan also brought along his assistant, Kalinda, because he’s got a lot of legal work to get done.
- Rory runs into Dean, and his brother Sam (who she never knew existed before). It’s awkward. Then Sookie comes barrelling out of the kitchen, cursing up a storm, knocking over three tables and almost starting a fire. Rory is quite concerned.
- Dean & Sam (BTW, it’d be nice to actually get Jensen Ackles for this) decide that Sookie must be possessed by a demon and that they have to perform an exorcism.
- Rory goes to talk to Logan and walks in on him fooling around with Kalinda. She freaks out. Kalinda suggests a threesome. Rory freaks out some more and runs off.
- Dean & Sam try to perform an exorcism in the kitchen. It turns out Sookie is not possessed, but she easily beats up the Winchesters anyway. Then Rory comes running in and Sookie accidentally knocks her through a window. Logan comes after her and gets whacked with a frying pan.
- Sookie is standing in the middle of her completely trashed kitchen. Kalinda wanders in, says “Hello”. Sookie shrugs, says “What the hell” and they start ferociously making out.
(And if you want to go really deep with the A S-P referencing, then cut to Melissa McCarthy in a ballet costume, and she starts dancing to “Particle Man”.)

This may be too Wesley-centric, but what about:
Wesley: Mowgli
Picard: Bagheera
Crusher: Raksha
I’m not sure whether Baloo should be Q or Guinan.
I want to make photosets for the Disney/Star Trek mash-up so I need to fill in the blanks (I love all the responses I’ve gotten so far)! Lists below the cut, suggestions for any (even ones already mentioned/filled) are welcome!

So, I have finished up Women In Film’s 52 Films By Women pledge, and I’m attaching the full list below. I may have some more extensive thoughts at a later date, but in brief, even though it was a LOT of movies, I’m very glad I did it. I saw several films I’d been meaning to get around to for some time, and some really good ones I otherwise would never have seen. And also Twilight. (Kidding, it wasn’t that bad.)

Let me apologize right at the start for "Um, actually"ing. Marge Schott is certainly an important figure in baseball history. I think her distinction is that she was the first woman to buy a baseball team, and she was perhaps more involved in the day-to-day operations than previous female owners had been.
Helene "Lady Bee" Britton inherited the St. Louis Cardinals from her uncle around 1910 and owned the team for several years. I don't know how involved she was in running the team, but she did get notoriety for firing manager Roger Bresnahan.
Grace Comiskey inherited the Chicago White Sox when her husband died in 1940, and owned the team until she passed away in 1956. She left majority control of the team to her daughter Dorothy, which led to several years of legal battles between Dorothy and her brother Charles, until Dorothy sold her interest to Bill Veeck and Hank Greenberg in 1959. The Comiskeys left the running of the team to the general managers, but I don't know enough about White Sox history to say what impact they had.
Those are the female baseball owners that I am aware of, but there could be others. I hope this information is helpful. I really appreciate your work and I'm looking forward to your book.
“I think she is the single worst person I’ve ever known. Spiteful, mean-spirited and evil.” – Cincinnati Reds employee, 1996. Based on everything I have read about this women I would agree, but I wanted to put her up on here because I think its important NOT to edit out history. Marge Schott was the FIRST woman to own and operate a major league team, the Cincinnati Reds, but she was forced out of baseball because she embarrassed, offended and humiliated fellow owners and players with her use of offensive racial and ethnic slurs. When she died in 2004 her hometown newspaper, the Cincinnati Enquirer, published a special section commemorating her life. The paper celebrated “good Marge” while lamenting “bad Marge.” Iin an interview with Marge she said “Daddy wanted a boy,” she told a reporter, but he had five daughters. Marge was the second; she said her father introduced her to business and called her “Butch.” In 1981 Schott paid $1.1 million for a minority stake in the Reds. She installed her Saint Bernard, Schottzie, as the team mascot and gave the huge dog free run of the field at Riverfront Stadium before games, despite complaints from the players, who had to watch where they stepped. In 1996 umpire John McSherry died on the field during the Reds’ opening game. Schott objected when the game – a sellout – was postponed. Later that year she was suspended again after more flattering remarks about Hitler and insults directed at Asian-American and Japanese people and homosexuals. A Cincinnati sportswriter said her offensive remarks were usually “fueled by drink
a Kamchatka [vodka], the cheap stuff, with a little water.” - The Society for American Baseball Research —- I did a little digging on her, and her story is INSANE. So is the GOOGLE image search. #theunsungheroines#womenshistorymonth
