In the image above, a protester shows his displeasure with the Government because they have not released the medications needed to help prevent and help people who have the HIV/AIDS virus. This man voices himself through a poster directed toward President Reagan. Looking at the image closely, in the lower left hand corner is someone with a Ronald Reagan mask on that is voicing his displeasure about the situation. The mask is funning looking, which makes me believe that they want President Reagan’s world image to be very poor, almost to make him look like he has no idea what he is doing.

The image above shows two people about to have sexual intercourse, but they don’t have any idea about each others health situations. This poster from the 1980s influenced many people to think about the their sexual partners health. This led to more people thinking twice before going to bed with someone they don’t know that well, preventing the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus.

The image above shows a religious point of view about AIDS and the epidemic in the 1980′s. This image has a sign outside their local church that is voicing their religious opinion about AIDS and homosexual people. This sign made people believe that homosexuals were the only ones who could get the HIV/AIDS virus.

In this picture above, a man is reading a magazine. The magazine has an article about the usage of condoms and says to, “Always use a condom”. The main reading the article did not know that a virus such as HIV and AIDS could be spread from not using a “rubber”.

The sharing of needles was a major factor of the spread of HIV/AIDS. “Used needles could contain and spread HIV. Used needles can cause contamination and lead to blood-borne illness.” (Stoops 2017) The picture above represents this. If a needle is re-used from someone who contained HIV or AIds can be passed on because the needles can still contain the blood with the virus in it after the injection.

One cause of the spread of AIDS and HIV were bathhouses. Bathhouses were saunas or steam baths where gay men would come into sexual contact with other gay men. Throughout the book, “And the band Played On”, by Randy Shilts, the book focuses on the effect bathhouses had on gay men with HIV and AIDS. , Shilts says, “ People who went to the bathhouses were simply more likely to be infected with a disease-and infect others- than a typical homosexual on the street.”(Shilts, 19) Bathhouses were very unsanitary but very popular for gay men. Homosexuals would go to the bathhouses and have multiple sexual partners a night. Not only would they be sexually active with multiple people, but they would not use protection. There were many people against bathhouses because the number of gay men who had AIDS and HIV was increasing. According to Shilts, bathhouses were also hard to shut down because they “were a $100-million industry across America and Canada, and bathhouse owners were frequently gay political leaders as well, helping support the usually financially starved gay groups”(Shilts, 19) This increased the number of people with transmitted disease.

This picture is very powerful. It speaks to those who have judgments about those who had AIDS or HIV. In the picture, the boy in the middle is sad because everyone around him does not want to get the disease. He says, “I can’t make you sick” because by touching someone, the disease can not spread.

This quote is stating that prevention is important. Prevention is important because it can stop you from getting a disease that does not have a cure. This is a poster that was used in the 1980s to encourage those who had not been exposed to the disease and to be more aware.
