#HappyFridayThe13th every Monster! Unearthed from the depths of the Catacombs - Check out the very first prototypes that were made to pitch the idea of Monster High! These prototypes used a head mold from a doll line that never made it to retail, feature the Barbie collector pivotal body (I was always all about that articulation) and you’ll notice some my scene shoes and accessories to help complete their looks plus some actual jewelry used to create their details! Just like customizers - we build prototypes out of what we have around sometimes, especially when the idea can be out there - like Fashionably Fierce Monster Teens! You’ll notice that Frankie isn’t green either... management said girls don’t like green so we couldn’t paint her up green... luckily when we tested the brand girls said if her dad is Frankenstein, she should be green! I felt so vindicated! Thanks girls in testing! For the most part the ghouls stayed pretty close to these designs, but Clawdeen got an all new outfit and a more purple color palette!

I became sort-of-well-known for fixing up tangled dolls and I keep saying my only claim to fame is having lucked into the right flat iron for the job at the time. There are a LOT of people out there a LOT more skilled at smoothing doll hair than I am.
I do fix a lot of nasty old doll hair and have been using the same flat iron for about 15 years. All this time I’ve worried about when it finally stops working because I hadn’t found another flat iron that worked in the same way, or wasn’t too hot for kanekalon doll hair. You know, that super wispy, super melty hair that Totally Hair Barbie, one of the most tangle prone Barbies out there has?
Recently, when I turn on the old iron, it crackles. That’s…… scary….. Especially considering I tend to flatten doll hair when it’s wet.
So I went looking for flat irons again, in the hopes of finding something similar, and found this one.
The price wasn’t too bad, it looks about the same as my old one in size and features, and hey, my 40th birthday is coming up soon, so I ordered it.
The flat iron is my number 1 tool.
I so think this is just the current version of the same flat iron, really. The only differences are that the heat selector dial turns in the opposite direction (I’ll have to make sure I stay aware of that or I’m going to roast some hair!), it heats up WAY faster even without turbo activated, and the power light flashes until it’s ready whereas the older iron’s light is just on.
The newer iron is a little lighter in weight, too.
A big problem the new one has, though, is that the plates don’t touch unless you really mash the handle hard to clamp them together, or use a glove to press them together with your other hand. I don’t have a glove to use.
Because of that, if you have any wrist or hand pain, you may not be able to use this flat iron. I predict a lot of pain for me when I do my next large hair detangling project.
First I tried it on the lowest setting on an older Barbie with kanekalon, and it didn’t melt! I don’t have a picture of that because that doll’s hair had already been flattened and it didn’t look any different.
Then I went down and grabbed this spare Prettie Girls Kimani head I had laying around, having realized it’s the only bad hair in the house at the moment, and tried the new flat iron on some mid-grade nylon.
This hair is dry and hasn’t been conditioned, which are NOT the conditions under which I generally flatten doll hair. I usually do condition first and then go over it while it’s still damp. Works better that way.
It worked out fine. Conditioning and flattening while damp would have a better result, but as long as I remember to clamp down harder on the handle, this new Conair Instant Heat will do the trick.
I have NOT tried it on ultra-low-heat hair like on old Creata dolls, but considering it is hot enough to flatten nylon on setting 1 (which is the same setting I used on the kanekalon), then it likely is too hot for Creata hair.
I’m very pleased to have found a replacement for my older iron before it kicked the bucket.

This ebay photo shows the problem off very well.
this WOULD have been a pretty nice doll. She has interesting hair, her makeup is unique and interesting, big sassy eyebrows, she even has articulation (albeit with simple hinge joints like the 2010 fashionistas) but then Mattel went “naaah, this is too much effort, let’s fuck it up by making the paintwork grainy as fuck!”
her lips look crunchy.
her makeup looks blurry
it just looks AWFUL and it ruins what would otherwise have been a fairly appealing doll.
and this isn’t unique to Mattel’s Disney dolls, it’s ALL their fucking dolls. The fashionistas all use the same bullshit and they look BAD.

Definitely agree on diversity! They need more. So much for being “rainbow”. 🤦♀️

The promo photos of the Bella doll have leaked. More importantly it includes the back of the box which has illustrations of all of Wave Two.
I'm so excited for the teal boy because 1) boy doll and 2) teal is my favorite color! 😆

I don’t really listen to music, but if the actual doll looks just like the promo images, then that’s amazing for just $30. And I like that you can reuse the packaging to a diorama.
Her music is outside of my demographic but maybe I just really like the outfit and Pikachu aesthetics?
Her face-up is also really well done?
Billie Eilish The Doll can be purchased for pre-order here.

Someone has given my mother a bag of quilting fabrics, for me to use for my crafts. Very happy with all sorts of printed cottons.
With 4 different designs from this gift I sewed a layered skirt for this MC² doll.
I love the different prints together in one outfit.
Her top I made earlier; her leggings and shoes came with the doll.

I saw the Hello Kitty Bakery set yesterday and it is so cute, I wish is didn't cost so much...
I also saw this:
Which I nearly bought because of how cute it is. With the obvious exception of the dress, everything else would be perfectly in scale for 1/6 Dolls. I love the hedgehog cage!!

Now I want to know! 😂
Is anyone else interested to see if the homophobic clown doll and the flour twins have Mattel's signature pixelated eyes?
Because I'm not going to lie, it will be hilarious if they pull that on these "collector" dolls.

I haven’t photographed Nashi a lot, but I plan to change that! she’s beautiful, and incredibly special.
she’s a Smart Doll, the “Ebony” model that’s been discontinued—which is just the Mirai sculpt in Tea. I gave her a new faceup, and her ensemble was assembled through Etsy; hair by Pengin Choi, outfit by TooCute Club, shoes by CODENOiR, and necklace from Yukia Accessories. her eyes were made by Deep Forest Dolls on Instagram. Nashi’s personality and appearance evolved over several years.
as the “big sister” of my dolls, Nashi works hard to be supportive and a positive influence. she’s a sweetheart who always stands up for her morals. I love her a lot!

The Barbie Extra dolls have been found in the wild in Europe.
It is only fitting that the first IRL photos feature a doll with misprinted eyes and pixelated lips. 👁️👄👁️ 🤣🤣🤣
She is serving Mattel realness.
If you follow the link they have photos of the other two dolls as well.

Disappointed.
For some reasons, my dumb brain keeps imagining MH characters dressing up as the characters. I was thinking Meowlody and Purrsephone would have been perfect for the twins, and Frankie as Pennywise. Or something like that. I wasn’t really sure what to expect.
I wouldn’t mind picking up the twins, but not for $75. So unless they’re on sale, it’s going to be a hard pass. 🤷♀️

I find them pretty boring, I was hoping they would be more ‘inspired-by’ and creative than they are. On the plus, the hair looks like saran and the screenings look good, the axe hairclips on the twins are cute and Pennywise’s shoes are interesting (though a bit derivative, considering Venus’ signature doll also had teeth-boots) Also especially considering how long it’s been, I find it disappointing that they don’t have unique sculpts? Looks like Twyla and Nefera. The twins’ screening even looks like Twyla’s…like how lazy could you be lol. As a whole I don’t think they look like collector dolls- they look like the same level of quality as old MH but nowhere near the level of detailing and creativity, even for playline. Collector Draculaura had more detail on her hat than these have in their entirety? Pass
