I'm feeling the urge of sharing random facts about my country again, so buckle up!

Most people know that Brasil is the blackest country outside of Africa and second blackest country in the world, but did know we also have the biggest Japanese population outside of Japan?

And it's a funny thing because I think no one would have guess we have so many Japaneses around.

Long story short, when slavery """ended""" the government lunched a program to bring white workers to maintain the farmers, because no one wanted to employ black people (but also bc they wanted to make Brasil a white country, but that's another story of it's own). What actually ended up happening was that the Japanese came look for work and they ended up staying and that resulted in some fun culture exchange between the two countries.

For instance here in Brasil we said that if we dig a big hole in the ground we can go to Japan, and I heard some Japanese saying that they have a similar "legend" saying that if you scream to a hole people in Brasil will listen.

We also have pastel:

People say that when Japanese people arrived they tried to sell gyoza here, but the Brazilians didn't really liked the food. So they adapted the recipe, change the shape of the dough and the type of filling, deep-fried everything and created one of the most famous Brasilian street food of all time.

In the City of São Paulo we have a neighborhood called Bairro da Liberdade which is dedicated to these immigrants

On a kinda of unrelated note, when I was born people in the hospital didn't knew what race to put on my birthday certified. Most of my family is black, but my grandmother from my mother side is Native Brasilian and my grandfather from my dad's side is a white man from Italy, if you guys could see me you would probably say I'm black (by USA standers) but the hospital staff was so confused they tagged me as "yellow" so for the first 15 years of my life I was legally Japanese even if there's no Japanese people in my family tree 😅😂😂 I was just looking at my birth certificate wen I remembered this story.
