3 Possible Ways to Help You Keep Positive.
Hey everyone, here are some ways to cope when your mental health isn’t the best. This isn’t specifically aimed, it’s more for a general sense of the manner. However, some of these may still apply to you.
Mental health isn’t always easy to keep positive and when you’re not feeling your best it’s difficult to find that motivation to keep going and do something about it. Hopefully these methods will help you, but just a disclaimer that not all of these will work for everybody! Finding how to cope with mental health in a positive manner starts with being aware of yourself and what best suits and helps you.
First and foremost, BE KIND TO YOURSELF.
It is so important in most if not all negative mental health situations you’re in to continue putting yourself and your health first. Understand yourself and study what triggers those negative emotions. Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that you are worth it. You are a beautiful/handsome unique person and you deserve to be on this Earth.
Figure out what your motivation is.
Motivating yourself again while in a negative mindset or after a breakdown/episode can be challenging, but it is important to be able to find that motivation again. Your motivation does not have to be the same thing every single day. Being motivated is not solely focused on one thing. What motivates you can change as often as something else comes by and motivates you even more than the last. Set yourself goals so you’ll tick them off within its timeframe. Start volunteering at a non-profit organisation before next month. Do your homework as soon as you get home so you can relax afterwards. Bake something every weekend for your friends/family whose days are made when you give them something you made.
Find ways to calm yourself down and divert your thinking.
Calming down can also be a bit of a task when your headspace makes you panic, rile up, breakdown, etc. In the situations when your emotions are negatively intense, remember to breathe. Close your eyes and focus on breathing. Relax your body and let go of the tension that’s being built up in your shoulders and back. The 4-7-8 breathing technique is something that helps many to calm down, and it is also useful to do before sleeping.
After calming down, you should be able to divert your thinking. Try not to focus on what’s hindering you from being positive during this time. Instead, focus on your surroundings. Point out 3 things you can see, hear, touch, and smell.
Keep Smiling,
SoulMind :)

SoulMind: Shelf Awareness!
Soulmind is having an event!
When: September 22, 2018 @ 10am-4pm
Where: City of Perth Library
To start promoting positive mental health, we thought that holding a reading event would be a great way to do so!
Did you know approximately 1 in every 5 Australians will experience a mental illness? They are the third leading cause of burden in Australia, and mental illnesses are most prevalent in those aged 18-24. This event is planned to help reduce these instances and promote more positive mental health within all of Australians, especially the youth.
Reading is a very relaxing and calming way to help destress and bring some ease into your mind. Books are able to transport you into its world and really help in letting you forget about the negative things that are happening for a little while.
Excerpts from a few sources that will be linked support this:
“...reading for pleasure increases empathy, enriches social relationships, reduces symptoms of depression and instils an overall sense of wellbeing. “
“Studies show people who read regularly experience lower stress levels, have better self-esteem, and suffer less cases of depression than those who don’t read.“
“ Just six minutes of reading can lead to a 68% reduction in muscle tension and a healthy slowing of the heart rate.“
So come to our event and bring or borrow a book. Allow yourself to relax while also spreading awareness for mental health and mental illnesses. T-shirts and drawstring bags with “#ShelfAwareness” on them will be handed out on the day!
Anybody can come to this event -- come to help raise awareness for mental health and promote positive mentalities! And we strongly encourage the youth to participate!
Our goal is to have at least 50 of you come and read with us on the day, so please help us reach that goal and help others by spreading positivity.
By coming together as a community, it shows that we are not alone, and those who are struggling to keep positive/mental illness will always have our support. Keeping a positive mindset partly relies on having that community. Let’s be a community that supports each other and helps one another to grow and become more positive each day.
Keep Smiling,
SoulMind :)

About SoulMind
Welcome to SoulMind!
In SoulMind, we stand by our slogan/motto “Soul Awareness”. Positive mental health (which is what we’re promoting) is about knowing yourself as a person and being aware about the mindset/s you’re in. By being aware of (solely) yourself, you will be able to find activities, hobbies, techniques and methods that work for you and will allow you to reach a positive state of mind.
Through this social platform, we hope to reach many of you who want to continue keeping a positive mindset and also those of you who are struggling to find that positivity.
Please feel free to send us a message if you have any queries and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!
