valyria had a book of basic spells that she was flipping through, trying to memorize and pronounce the words that would allow her magic to perform the spell. she didn’t even have a wand and she was debating on finding one or getting one herself. she had little money and absolutely no idea of magic. her trying to learn was all in hoped to try to get this magical necklace from her neck that would finally free her beast. maybe if she did that, she’d allow herself to be more open to people…… maybe.  ❛ accio… ❜   she mumbled, repeating the word over and over before looking at the mug on the table in front of her.  ❛ say accio and then the name of the item you wish to call to you. ❜   she said in a low voice, finger moving over the words as she read them aloud.  ❛ accio mug. ❜   she said rather confidently, her eyes watching as the mug stayed in it’s place. then she took her hand and held it open as if to catch the mug whenever it decided to slide toward her.  ❛ accio mug. ❜   she said again, the mug still unwavering. there was no one sitting around her to hear what she was doing but she ended up forgetting that spell and flipping through a few pages. a spell to unlock an object… her hand went to the necklace around her neck a little.  ❛ alo… ❜   she struggled with the word.  ❛ alohom… ❜   she tried again, pronouncing it wrong.  ❛ alo…? what kind of word is this. ❜   she whispered, wondering if this spell would work without a wand and if she could even learn how to do them… after all, she had no formal education on anything. it was amazing she even knew how to read.

It was hard to ignore the young red headed woman mumbling to herself – sure, Tina should probably mind her own business and continue on with her mission at hand. She was looking for an informant – someone who was supposed to have some information on the whereabouts of Credence. But her better judgement and everything in her heart and soul wanted to help the distressed young woman. She could remember feeling just as lost as the young woman looked and there wasn’t one bone in her body that wanted to continue walking on without at least stopping – even if it were a brief interaction.
Head tilts to the side as she strides toward the young woman – all she can hear is an attempt at the unlocking spell; something that has her even more curious.
“Excuse me – but is everything alright?” Offering a soft smile, she stuffs her hands into her jacket pockets, head tilting to the side in an attempt to figure out what was going on here. It was clear the young woman was deep into a book of basic spells – nothing that appeared to be too dangerous, but it did have her curiosity peaked.

LETA.
“I do not blame you. Perhaps I may offer you a properly brewed cup of tea sometime, as I do not wish for yours to go to waste.” Leta said with a smile as she transfigured a nearby flower into a teacup. “A cup of tea from a friendly face is a good cup of tea, despite its poor brewing.”  Her words held no hint of malice or ill-teasing as she held her cup out for Tina to pour. “I suppose I should have figured you were an American. It’s an honour to meet a member of the MACUSA.” Leta felt the woman’s slight trepidation and wondered perhaps if she had intruded on her solitary time.
Leta was hoping to maybe distract herself from her thoughts, and the woman seemed friendly enough to perhaps have a conversation with.
A moment’s silence passed between them before Leta cleared her throat and raised her cup in cheers despite its lack of content.
“My name is Leta, by the way. I hope… I hope I haven’t interrupted your alone time.” Without thought, she rested a hand on Tina’s arm.

It was hard for Tina to continue feeling uncomfortable when Leta was so – welcoming. With a sigh she softly relaxes, though a shock runs through her spine at the touch. Jealousy was an exhausting trait to entertain. Still, she offers the woman a smile and softly laughs, a quick flick of her wand in order to fill her cup and clink her out cup against the others. “I think I would like that very much.” Despite her smile, she wondered just how much she would like that. The fact of the matter was, she was heartbroken – could she invade in on the newlywed couple when she thought she had something with Newt?
Maybe he just wasn’t over Leta entirely – a shake of her head is given as her eyes dart down toward her cup. She needed to stop lingering on a subject she had no control over – it wasn’t doing her any good at this given moment.
“Leta – as in Leta Lestrange?” In an attempt to cover her wavering smile, she sips from her tea, never minding the steeping time she had been suggested in the first place. “Didn’t I see an article about you in Spellbound not too long ago? I… I suppose congratulations are in order!” Even though Tina felt like she was doing a good job at being engaging in an attempt to hide the unease in her voice – she was unsure if it were working or not. “Oh, dear Marion Davies,” she sighs out – eyes rolling at her own manners – “my apologies, I don’t believe I’ve properly introduced myself. My names Tina – Tina Goldstein.”
Letting a pause pass between them as she sipped from her tea she shook her head and waved an absent hand, “No, no. Not at all. Was mostly muddling over things – I’m on a case and things aren’t pointing in the right direction for me as of yet… What brings you to Paris?”

Tina had it on good authority that Credence had been seen – or at least her contact thought they had seen him – lingering around the Circus Arcanus. A popular wizarding circus that she remembered traveling through New York the year prior – it wasn’t shocking to her that Credence would run away to the circus in search of a stand in family. A place where other outcast wizards, freaks, and creatures would come together to be around others who suffered from the scrutiny of society. It wasn’t lost on her that he was in search of who he was and where he came from. Rumors constantly seemed to seep from the wood works on just whom the boy could be – but who he was didn’t matter. What mattered to Tina was protecting him. She had made a promise and she intended to see that promise through.
Feet carried her swiftly through the streets of Paris, finding the statue that led her from the No-Maj sector and into the Wizarding World. There was a vast difference – but despite the distance she had from her own home, she suddenly felt a sense of ease going from the outside world and into one she was far more familiar and comfortable being in.
Chocolate brown hues take in the sight before her – wizards littered the streets as they darted between performers and laughed. Any other day Tina would have loved to take in the atmosphere of an intriguing event such as this. But her focus was in finding Credence – she was determined to find the young man and with her mind following one track, she hardly noticed the man she was running into before it was too late.
“Oh! I uh – Sorry. I didn’t – I should have...” She nervously chuckles, biting into her lower lip she takes a step back in order to give herself some space to think and process what she had just done – had the man even been there just moments before? Lips suck in a deep breath before slowly letting it out, her head shakes as a smile pulls across her lips, “Look, I’m sorry. Must’ve been a little too focused on getting to the performers.”  //  @dvmbledad

LETA LESTRANGE?!
paris 1927
No matter how enchanting wizarding Paris was, muggle Paris did have its unique charms. She let out a sigh as she walked towards the Eiffel tower, the cool afternoon breeze easing her mind and quieting her thoughts. There was too much happening all at once. Her brother, the wedding, Theseus, Newt…
A pause.
Even his name made her heart jump. She shook her head in exasperation before turning to find a woman sitting on a bench opposite the tower, fixing herself a cup of tea with her wand. Leta couldn’t help but smile. The woman was in no danger to be caught by a muggle, as the area was very much empty, but as an employee of their Ministry, Leta couldn’t help but walk up to her, if only to find something to distract herself.
“I believe I must call you out. Such a crime it is, what you are doing.” Leta sat herself beside the woman and smiled. “You must wait at least three minutes for your tea to steep.” She finally said before tilting her head in amusement. “Oh, and of course use of magic in muggle areas is frowned upon as well.”

Tina had been minding her own business of course – the streets of Paris were rather quiet at this hour; something that was surprising on its own given the stories she had heard of the city. Despite that, she had found a wonderful little spot to sit and enjoy a cup of tea – after all the searching, all she needed was a moment to herself. A moment to process everything that was happening around her – a moment to debate where to search for Credence next.
It didn’t take long for a woman’s voice to pry her from her thoughts however. She gives a slight shake of her head and moves to hide her wand – that was, until she really processed the words that were being said to her. Lips pull into a crooked smile, amused considering she knew better as an Auror. But the moment she lifted her head and saw the face that accompanied the voice – her heart sank in her chest. Eyes easily diverted from Leta Lestrange – a woman whom she had admired through an article but felt a hint of disdain towards all the same.
Jealousy, it was an evil little trait and something she had been feeling far too often since the articles fruition.
The paper hadn’t done her beauty justice in the least. It was easy to see why Newt had chosen Leta over her – all the same dredging up the thought only pained her. As swiftly as the thought came her breath felt like it left with it. Heart racing – what was she to do in this instance? It wasn’t Leta’s fault after all and despite the pang of jealousy and pain radiating through her entire soul she knew better. She knew she had to try and at least attempt some semblance of normalcy – like she was talking to a stranger.
She could pull this off… right?
Eyes shift in an attempt to meet Leta’s own and she offered a small smile – something she felt looked normal; at least she hoped it looked normal. However, the chuckle that emitted from her lips sounded anything but – something full of nerves with a dash of a bitter edge.
“In the name of Greta Garbo – I must’ve been making tea wrong my whole life!” Letting out another laugh – one she felt came off more normal than the last – she tried to relax her racing heart. Hands shifting to conceal her wand and rest the tea against her leg in order to let the steeping process begin, “I am well aware of the rules – I at least figured that one was a worldwide law. Not just something the MACUSA hold us too.” She sweetly smiles now, taking in a slow breath and letting it out seconds later.
Relax.
“I don’t suppose I could interest you in a cup then?”
